more real cultural outfits… like:
-a norn outfit with figurative embroidery that tell their legend (starting with the Issomir and including the killing of zaithan) and loads of trophies showing off their hunting skills, loads of fluffy fur, coloured glass beards (one can never have enough glass beads) and metal jewelry with animals perhaps similiar to the Oseberg style.

-a glowing and blinking outfit with loads of layers and a headpiece that actually emphasises the ears for asura, there will never be enough.

- perhaps some 15th century clothing for humans? (with hosen for the guys and really long dresses with loads of folds and high waists for the girls)

-charr clothing that doesn’t clip the horns and the tail and looks warrior and charr-like. I’d love more stuff that looks a bit like samurai armour (minus the helmet).

Ascalon as a non-Prophecies player

Acsalon was never charr homeland. I dont see how one conquerer is more justified then another. Infact both the humans and charr dont really have a justified claim. Both just took it by force. The humans once and the charr even twice.

But its still was charr land, and humans took it and completely genocide charr who lived there. So ruthless retaliation (especially against Ascalon) was pretty expected.

wasn’t Ascalon Grawl inhabited and the charr occupied it and them?
the charr took it from the grawl first, so i don’t think you can call it homeland in the sense of “land of origin” or even “charrland”. If anything it’s “grawl homeland”.
“Grawl are originally native to the lands now called Ascalon. When the charr invaded over a millennia ago, they subjugated the grawl into slaves and forced a large number of them to flee into the Shiverpeak and Blazeridge Mountains, where their descendants still remain today. According to charr military tributes which predate the humans’ arrival to the land in 100 BE, those that remained in Ascalon as the charr’s slaves were forced into roles such as pulling charr chariots.”

i like the asura versions.
female sylvari is okay, it’s very flowerly and I like that for sylvari. very simple, but that’s not something bad.
I actually like the charr outfit a lot . this seems to be very fitting and I have hopes that it won’t clip with the tail, which would be awesome.
norn and human female are kind of boring (and these would probably the ones that wear it the most)…not a fan of the varying lenght of the skirt…I would be nice when the Norn version looked more norn-like and not like an American wedding dress from the 90ies crossed with a cheap renfair dress.
It needs, in my opinion, more embroidery (like tapestry of bayeux or the figurative embroidery art of some native american tribes) that tells the legendary story of her heroic awesomeness and a lot more over the top fluffy fur and other trophies, perhaps even horns,to show how much of a great hunter she is. I also would like to have seen fur-lined, embroidered boots with the outfit.
lacks a bit of the epicness that is a Norn woman. too much human girly schmu, in my opinion.
the male Norn is okay, but the hat looks a bit funny and the male human has a crown which probably clips with a lot of the hair options, but I kind of like his outfit.
male Sylvari looks fat in my opinion and is really plain in my opnion. I’d be so nice if they added a few blossoms here and there to make it more interesting.

I’d buy it for my char girl.

And the last question: If the lore accepts minis, how does Marjory see me having mini half naked Kasmeer following me around?

I suppose she likes it…and even if not, it’s not like she can change it…you’re the boss after all. And the original is still hers.

Charr music

Oreithyia.3064

they probably have a lot of marching songs with drums and fanfares, simple and easy to remember in melody and lyrics. perhaps also some work songs, since they seem to prefer well-coordinated group actions over individual tasks. And of course warsongs that are there to intimidate their oponents perhaps including roaring and growling.
perhaps something in the style of Einheitsfrontlied (united front song) , des Geyers schwarzer Haufen (Geyer’s/vulture’s black crowd), warmaschine or Sölderschwein (what’s better than being a soldier/mercernary pig). This one also seems to be very charr-like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjGi33FIMLI.
when it comes to lyrics it is probably more about being strong warriors and praising the legion and their warband than about drinking or food…the topics drinking and food as well as proclaiming their individual power would probably more norn-like.

[Suggestion] Human Male Hairstyles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

there are tons of “messy” hairstyles and the long hair clips terrible with a lot of armor and outfits.
I’d love to have clean buns for male characters (norn and human alike), to show off long hair without making it impractical for fighting and reduce the clipping issues.
A simple cinnamon, LWB, Nautilus or celtic bun looks clean and nice and can be worn either with a stick, fork (there are manly and unisex hairsticks, for example the one made of antler or bone) or just by hidden pins.
come on, Anet! do me a favor and give me long hair without the clipping issue! buzz cut just isn’t that fantasy like.

Love between a Charr and a Human?

in Lore

Oreithyia.3064

i think one problem, with humanxcharr, regardless of the biological differences and the probably pretty painful experience for the human (I suppose intercourse between charr is not the most gentle business) and the barely overcome conflicts between the races, is that they very likely have very different beliefs when it comes to romance and partnership.
For humans marriage-like partnerships and family living together and having a relatively close emotional bond seems to be the rule and culturally wanted, while charr’s main family is the fahrar and later the warband and their legion. relationships between family members or partners exist but often they are not as close or more casual.
I suppose that ould be very difficult to compromise , if the partners aren’t out of the norm for their race and culture.

I don’t say it couldn’t happen, there are people attracted to other species in the real world too, but it would be very unlikely and probably heavily frowned about by a lot of people of the respective races.

I like outfits for leveling up, because it doesn’t make sense for me to customise armor that I can’t use 2 levels later. Sadly often they only look good when you do a human character of medium size and with short hair.

Oreithyia.3064

I’d rather prefer more hairstyles with clean and practical English, French, Dutch or Fishtail braids than more Dreadlocks. especially more cool feminine and masculine looking bun hairstyles , because long hair clips so often with a lot of armor, but Norn look much more Norn-like with long hair. :I
I’d also like human male hairstyles with a bit more hairlenght but a loose bun or knot (if you feel brave put a hairstick or fork in plz <3) to prevent clipping.
It looks cool and is practical because the hair doesn’t get in the way when fighting or wearing a helmet and the hair actually would stay goodlooking and healthy because of the reduced damaging.

Traeharne

in Lore

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

I don’t see how it’s a slap in the face. Traeharne is an expert on Orr because he’s been studying it for 25 years.

And how long have humans been studying their own religious traditions? Why are we being told about this human religion from a sylvari and not a human priestess of Lyssa? Because this knowledge has been lost? Apparently not if Trahearne learned it from somewhere.

Well the PC is still relatively young, so they didn’t have the time and perhaps also perhaps didn’t feel the need to study old orrian religious rituals as thouroughly as a person of any race that specialises in their studies on this culture.
Just because the Orrians and the Krytans were both humans, doesn’t mean that they have the same rituals when it comes to their burial rites…plus the rituals in that part of the story are almost 200 years old (if I remember the timeline right, I’m a bit bad at that stuff), so even if the krytans and the orrians had the same burial rituals at that time, they could have change a lot during that time.

Medium Armor Styles

Oreithyia.3064

yeah the trench coats and hip-enhacing skirts of the heavy armor characters for males are one of the reason why a lot of my males end up wearing an outfit in general (because it more practical and the but/hip region is hidden this way or the other).
With charrs the problem is, 1. that they look totally laughable in the most outfits (male charr in daydreamer’s finest, I look at you! :I You’ve got FUR everywhere, it makes no sense to highlight your chest) and everything that goes over the butt clips with the tail.
Sadly, the main model is human, so the most armor models (except cultural) look weird and distorted on charr.

I think Anet is doing this, because they’re American…Americans seem to be a bit sensitive when it comes to seeing male bits and butts.
With making all their cloths so long that they hide the butt and the “interesting region” so much that the character is basically wearing a skirt, a loincloth/metal undies and at least a coat to cover the butt in some way or the other, they make their clothing even more safe so they don’t get sued by gamer parents. Some parents probably wouldn’t like it, when their son plays a male thief in bra, hotpants and suspender stockings…even if it is a fluffy, 2 m big, talking cat.
jokes aside, it makes it probably a bit easier for animation and models too, because you don’t have to care for the males center region not looking awkard or weird.

I liked Forgal. Because he’s awesome and epic…and because he’s got this father-son/daughter thing going on with the Pc…I like that.
(After how much people liked him, I feel almost of bad for not having so much feels for Tybalt. he was a nice character…but I never felt close to him.)

In a weird way I also like the pale tree. I think the concept is nice and I like her design. Generally I like the design of the sylvari…but Caithe and Faolain are characters that I personally can’t understand.

Brahman and Eir…I like them mostly because of the dynamic between them and that Eir is so “Haven’t I told you that I’m a mum? Oh, seem like I forgot that…I guess it doesn’t matter, but this is my son he’s already old enough to safe the world.”
I think it makes her more “normal” that she’s not perfect the way she handles things. She’s a hero in someway, but her being one actually makes her neglect other social roles.
I like Braham, because of the German voice. He sound like he’s talking with his fridge…It sounds so relaxed and cozy. sadly I don’t know who he is.

RNg being RNG, the likelyhood of getting a good character from 4 necros is about the same as getting a legendary (not a precursor) from 4 fine pieces of gear. No, you’ll get a worse character if you forge 4 necromancers. :P

do you think you get a quaggan when you do that?

Oreithyia.3064

Do you think that all playable races (except Sylvari of course) carry their offspring the same way as humans?
Do you think they have the same 9 months of pregnancy and then, if they do, do they get more singlets or more multiples? How long are the mothers “out” until they’re ready to hunt/research/do their duty again?
I’d love to know more about the normal life of the non-human playable races.

I always had the idea of the norn being like “humanoid bears” because of this one kodan saying they’re related in some way, but the Norn gave up their bear-form (I don’t know were, but I saw it somewhere in-game). bears give birth to 2 or 3 cubs more often than humans. so could it be that this is similiar to Norn? they originally lived in an area that was not the most easiest and the hunting lifestyle probably is pretty dangerous and leads in kids dying of hunger (i.e. no kill no food) or because one of the first own kills going wrong, so having more kids from the beginning could be an advantage for the race.
Charr are kind of big cats and these also give birth to multiples more often than humans.

Norn and Charr are in their core hunters and predators, so it is very probable that their youngs are out of their “vulnerable baby” state very fast and to keep pace with their parents or, in case of the charr, enter the Fahrar.

How’s that with Asura? they’re pretty difficult, because I can’t even think of how a Asura would nuture a child. they seem much too egocentric and focused on their research to go play with their offspring. It feels really weird to think of them singing lullabies and having sleepless nights because baby has colics.
Do you think they have facilities for newborns like for the older offspring so that they don’t annoy their parents in their studies?

Traeharne ?!?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

I believe the reason why most people disapprove of Trahearne is because the game’s mantra “this is my story” ends up referring to Trahearne instead of the intended player-character. Nobody wants to be a side character in their own game.

This sums it up perfectly. It is not longer the PC’s story so why bother.

I would prefer delete the story quest after I get into the order and get the armor. After that, I don’t care to see the same thing with 10 characters.

why does it make it less the PCs story, when it has other major characters in it?
The story is still told out of the PCs Point of view, you see what your character is doing not necessarily what Trahearne or Majory is doing. the PC is still the main focus, since it is the one that connects the Story elements, the orders, the Pact, the different NPC races and the DE1.0 and 2.0. without the PC this wouldn’t been possible, so the PC ist still the no.1 Hero.
Trahearne, in my opinion, doesn’t make it less of the PCs story…he’s not the mostly likable, but I think he’s not that bad.

[Braham would make a funny pactleader though. I like his German Voiceacting…he sounds like he’s leading a comfortable conversation with the butter in his fridge.]

Reaper = Farming Machine

Oreithyia.3064

traslation is complicated. the same images aren’t used for the same phaenomenon in every language. In German it kind of fits, the “Schnitter” or “Sensenmann” (scythe man) is basically the same metaphora as the “Reaper”, but i suppose it is more difficult with the romanic languages.

the translation of “Revenant” had more people scratching their head though…because the translation of “wider” is “against” not “again” (which would be “wieder”).
So the translation of “Widergänger” would be “counterwalker” or “Contravenant”, which is in my opinion not a very fitting decription of what the class is about gameplaywise. With the other classes you know roughly what the class is about, when you just log on the first time and see their name (engineer->uses machines and tech, elementalist->using elements to attack, thief->using stealth attacks, guardian->protects, supports and guards, Necromancer-> uses necromancy etc.).
I know the German translation team did it, to add a play of words there…you know the Revenant going against all obstacles and stuff…buuuut it is kind of cheesy, in my opinion, and doesn’t do much to show the difference between the Revenant and the other classes…because the other classes go against all obstacles as well…so generally every class should be called “Widergänger”.
I wish they’d have sticked to the literal translation. I like puns but it’s not always the time to make one.

Widergänger is an actual word in the german language and describes “things” that come back from the Spirit Realm, or the Grave (“Wiedergänger” counts as the same but as far as i am concerned, “Widergänger” is the more common one here in Germany). Widergänger is often used as a substitute for Undead for example. Yes Revenants are not Zombies, but they come from the Mists (The Spirit Realm thematically) so Widergänger is a 100% fit to describe the Profession.

Yes, the “WiEdergänger” is an actual figure of german-ish mythology, but writing it without the “e” changes the meaning, for a big part of the German native-speakers. because “wider” means “against” and not “again”. which was actually intended as you can read in the respective thread in the German forum.
Just because it what intended doesn’t mean that I or other players like it though.

In the past “wider” probably would have been more okay, because the writing rules weren’t as much set in stone, so there could have been probably alternative spellings depending on the writer, the region and the time.
However nowadays we’ve got spelling rules, that are relatively binding (even if not as binding as was the Frenchies do in that matter), and the Duden clearly writes the “Wiedergänger” with an “e” and not without, similiar to the “wieder” in “wiederspiegeln” and not like the “wider” in “Widersacher”.
Yes, it is language-historically possible, but it is unusual, and if you use the modern spelling rules (because Duden) it looks “wrong”.

How i see it, German is a very constructional language, so people often put the words together and apart in their head when reading and understanding the meaning of the single components of the word (that’s what’s makes stuff like “Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitän” relatively easy for us to read), that’s why they connect it more with the meaning of the (wider=against gänger=someone that walks/goes) than with the intended meaning (wieder=again gänger=someone that walks/goes), which is why I would have find it better when it was written “Wiedergänger” than “Wi_dergänger”.

Guild Wars 2 Convention?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

Anet goes to other conventions after all (gamescom for example)…it’s easier since they don’t have to do all the planning.
And getting enough visitors for just one game probably isn’t as easy as getting enough visitors for a convention with a broader spectrum of fandoms.
organising a conventions isn’t that easy. you need rooms, you need manpower, you need evtl. sleep-possibilities (atleast for the helpers) and catering, you need to care for hygenics and have medics around not to forget you need people to care for booths, gaming room, stage and night program, generally entertainment and interesting programn for the visitors… not to forget that you also need the funds first to pay everything and it isn’t for sure that the entrance fees ill carry the costs so that you don’t lose too much…
I’ve done that in a rather small context (~500/1000 people), planning a con is a lot of work. I think IF there’ll be one it would be fan-organised.
So if you want a GW-specific Convention: find allies for your project and start planning one.
the users are fairly scattered all over the world though, so the finding of the right place (good transport connenction, relatively central, so everyone can go there easily) for such a project would be very important.
If I were you, I’d start with a simple Meet-up and/or a fan meeting on a bigger convention before making crazy plans.
Group-cosplays are also often a great chance to meet people that like the same stuff like you.

Oppression of Indigenous Peoples is Bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

I wouldn’t see the Skritt as an analogy for indigenous people in the real world. I wouldn’t see any of the races ans species in Tyria as a direct analogy to a group of people in the real world.
Yes, Anet took aspects of several human cultures to “build” their creatures, the dynamic between the different races, and their world, but that doesn’t make them “the same”.
I think it is wrong to call then indigenous, because they live where they live only since a few hundred years and destroying the “art” of other people is not something that only happens to “indigenous” people.

The thing is that Asura and the Skritt have a very old passionate hatred towards each other, because they were always fighting for resources and living spaces even before they even came to the surface.
As I see it, the other races don’t necessarily trust the Asura, but they want to be on their “friend”-side because Asura are kitten creepy in their unscrupulousness and intellingence and because they brought a lot of useful technologies that the other races want to use. So showing animosity towards the Skritt, which generally are seen as less intelligent and “human” (sorry i don’t know a better word), is a possibility to make plus-points in the relationship ith the Asura.
I personally find the situation of the Grawl (which can be seen as pretty indigenous) much more sad and tragic though.

to me it doesn’t really "sound like name…more like someone trying to write “Marcel” and made several typos and/or the normal written name was already taken .
But that doesn’re really matter in a videogame in my opnion. there are lot of PCs with funny names in gw2, yours wouldn’t feel out of place.
I’d see it more on a human character though…and probably more as a guy…because “Marcel” is a guy-name.
Would feel weird if it were an Asura, Norn or Charr. doesn’t fit the “feel” of the names in their culture in my opinion…Sylvari I’d always more towards gaelic or celtic names, but “Macelt” sounds very delicate and slender, so it could perhaps work.

Opinion on mentor deaths

in Lore

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

The mentors made a choice to try to hold the line. Was it the right one? Maybe they could’ve escaped with the rest. Maybe it wouldn’t resulted in everybody dying. The deaths in the story, IMO for the most part, at least fit. This was a costly assault into enemy lands, not everybody comes back from it alive.

there are 2 things I don’t like about it.
1. While having very different personalities, everyone of them comes to the same plan and conclusion. it would have been nicer, IF you let them die for the story line, that you not let them all die the same way. [Plus the marschall is kind of pale in comparision. He doesn’t fill the gap the lost of the mentor caused and neither does DE 2.0.)
2. there’s no way for the PC tp have contact with them, when they die.

I’d like to have a possibility to meet them in the mists in a future chapter of the Living Story for example.

Loot on downscaling

I’m around in low level area a lot because I’m doing map completion.
I like the lower level areas more.
Dry top, Silverwaste and Cursed shore are nicely done, but if it comes to design I don’t like them as much as good old Qeensdale or Caledon forest.
I like the starting areas and getting nice loot there instead spending hours in a “boring” desert is a nice plus that I don’t want to miss.

I like sylvaris because they’re different than humans… I find them interesting…wouldn’t call them sexy though.
it’s as if I’d call my favorite flowerpot sexy. It’s cute in some way, but sexy?

I’m from the most imaginative and unrealistic armors in game design, skimpy? why not! sexys? Course! Feminine? Hell yeah! play Gw2 from week one and i’m so tired and bored about the heavy armors. So….

I like those armors. Especially that middle one. I’d buy that in an instant!

I’d like to have the one in the middle for a guy please… just without the skirt.
I’d totally make a norn guy for that.

Firearms came about when plate armour was still widely used, and thesy coexisted for a few centuries. Early firearms didn’t have the punch to get through plate armour, and when the guns got better, so did the armour. Armour smiths sometimes shot guns at the pieces to show how good they were. I mentioned it before somewhere in this thread, but the GW2 books suggest that GW2 guns are like early real-world firearms – slow to reload, not very powerful and not used as a main weapon. Game mechanics make it seem different, but lore and common sense would pretty much agree that it’s not impossible or illogical to have guns and plate armour in the same game.

oh good to know.
I knew they were around the same time but i think I read somewhere that with the firearms getting more precise and the body parts you’d shoot on getting more specificated (mainly the head?) the armor got less because it was as usueful for protection anymore. But I have to say, I never was big pro when it comes to shooting arms.
If the projectiles are not concentrated on specific body parts and the weapon is not not overly precise in its use, it of course makes sense to protect the whole body.7

nontheless, I think A.net did a good job with giving the player a choice,
Game designer are not historians, so it’s okay when some things are not completely logical.
I actually like some of the spiky shoulder pieces for example, because they look badkitten on female and male characters alike. nothing says “I’m a ridiculously muscular Norn” more than gigantic illogical spiky shoulder pieces.
I just wish we had more sexualised (not necessarily naked ot skimpy… only a little bit more sexy) armor for the guys. like tight pants without hips enhancing skirts or capes for example.

@ Kalavier

No one said anything about JOUSTING armor. The link I provided, had you cared to read it, was about plate armor worn on the battlefield. It was heavy, over 100 pounds. You and others try to make it sound as if that is insignificant to agility but it isn’t.

And given the choice of full metal plate or a tee and shorts facing a bear, give me the tee and shorts any day. I would need agility to run and the plate armor would not protect against those claws and teeth given the force a bear can bite with. One of the ways plate armor protected someone was range attacks, primarily arrows, could be deflected from the curve surface, something that is negated at close range.

Well it depends, the one I was wearing was around ~30 kg, it’s heavy but you get used to it. You’ve got to household with your energy, but you also have to do that with just wearing a bikini. Running around the whole day without sleep is generally not very fitting for a warrior. but you’re right, If I were the Lady Commander having strategically placed metal armor parts+ chainmail or scale armor ould probably more my choice than full plate armor.
the problem is, that these kind of armor are made for fights without firearms. It’s not so useful as a protection against firearms and in such a fight would just slow you down.
So as a warrior you’ve got to pick your fights.

Also…I generally would prefer to not fight with a bear in any kind of protection…I think I’d be too slow to outrun a bear with or without a protective armor…they can be pretty fast, if they want to.

that’s nice .
I have to agree with you, the community is a lot nicer and very helpful if you compare it to that of other games. atleast in the PVE part… pvp i don’t know… competetive play modes often have a slightly more aggessive tone.

Cultural Outfits

we already have cultural armor sets in-game so what makes that different from this.
don’t get me wrong…more cutural clothing is always great, especially for Charr and Asura but also for sylvari in somehy, since the sometimes look weird in aromor designed for Humans…but wouldn’t be more cultural armor sets better than an outfit?

Dodge rolling will cause you to immediately enter a state of permanent knockdown that can only be cured by an ally lifting you up.

I (female) tested wearing historical fullplate armor and doing a summersault and standing up afterwards or avoiding a sword blow was totally possible. You can run with it, but it is of course a bit more tiring than without.
Yes it is a bit more difficult to do a dodge role than when you do it in a gymsuit, but it is not impossible…especially if we think of 1. the Lady Commander is probably a very muscular person, because she wouldn’t be able to safe the world as couch potato and 2. in my head a high military person like a commander obviously wears a custom-made armor that fits their body measurments.

Yes the heat in Dry Tops and Silverwaste would be a problem, but a relatively pale person like Kasmeer also should look like a lobster after around 1 hour there. because of the sun. A full covering outfit in a dark, light, tight-woven fabric would probably be the best for these zones. So no reason for a character to run around naked.

the problem I have with a invisible magic amor is that while you can see the skin, the skin is probably totally insensible from a taktile point of view.
You can easy get out of a plate amor, but i think, as warrior without magic abilities, finding someone to enchant your skin for you every morning is kind of annoying and impractical. it more likely that this is a permanent entchantment, which means this person doesn’t feel it when you hug them or carress their arm or something.
I don’t know…it kind of sad and a bit unsettling for me and doesn’t sound sexy at all.
Another posibility would be that the clothing itself is entchanted and so the commander can atleast feel something when they go to sleep after a long dragon slaying day. but then it’s the question, why the guys still all wear some kind of “skirt” to protect their crotch and butt and no G-string.

i thinki a lot of the outfits are pretty good for a MMO. you’ve got skimpy sets, illogical boobwindow sets and some that actually look like they could give some protection.

regardless of heavy, light or medium armor, I like to have some of the female “skimpy” sets for male characters though (grasping death for example or the pants of the babaric, phalanx and aetherblade, sneakthief (medium), wingend (light))
the problem with the guys armor in general is that it pretty difficult to find clothing without a cape, a coat, a skirt or or anything else that covers atleast their backside and gives them nice childbearing, broad hips.
I’d prefer having a male outfit that makes the hips look slim.

totally unrelated, since someone mentioned it, i was really sad when i found out that the male version of the carapace shoulderpieces, doesn’t have butterflies.
If you compare it, the female version is much more striking in its design that the male version. which is pretty sad.

Signs of aging in different races

in Lore

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

i think not all of every race ages in the same way.
Different to humans, that are biological meant to live in a group with more or less set roles (protectors, food-provider, caretakers etc.), the norn are traditionally meant to survive as single individuals that form groups for special occasions (f.e. the great hunt).
the Norn is not meant to protect or provide a group or to have another social position than “hunt to eat” and their knowledge mainly roots in their own experiences and their closeness to the spirits of the wild, while the human as a social “animal” build their life and knowledge on the shoulders of other humans and the experience not only themself but also others.
Old humans that can not fight and provide anymore still have an important funtion in the humans society, while old Norn have that less, thus they’ll probably would show the same aging process than humans. they’ll probably get a bit slower in their reflexes and more calculation of a fight is needed or not, but they’ll probably die before the reach the point of being a doter.
the Norn is meant to be a single predatory “animal” similiar to a bear in my perception.
Biologically they’re just meant to provide themself and their offspring as long as said offspring can’t do that themself. We see a lot of Norn children with single parents or no parents around at all.
Norn have to be independent and able to provide and protect themself very early and have to do it ‘til they’re very old when they don’t want to die.
having a support system like hoelbrak is actually very new and unusual and a reaction on the threat “Jormag”.
I think it would be very difficult to find enough norn that actually die only of old age, to actually find out how old they get naturally, because them getting older would at some point just mean that they die because can’t provide and protect themself anymore. they’d either fall in a hunt or they’d just starve to death.
generally with their (probably genetical )closeness to Jotun though, I’d say the natural age is around that of ~200 years if they don’t die from outside influences.

The charr also make it difficult, not only because they as predatory “animals” that generally are relatively robust towards age (i.e. be relatively fit until they’re really old and then die very fast), but mainly because it has a very negative connotation for a charr to die of age in some bed and in safety.
Like the ideal for Norn is to die on a hunt or in a confrontation with another Norn the ideal death for a charr is to die on the battlefield.
that’s probably why we don’t see much really old charr or Norn around…a majority of them probably dies/gets killed before the reach the point of them being so frail that they can’t support themself anymore.

The Asura probably have a bigger chance to actually die of natural aging, but they also test a lot with magic and chemicals that can lead to them aging earlier, not to forget the many lab accidents and them dieing because they’re being to curious and exploring something deadly.

the sylvari…I’m not sure if they age at all, but if they age, i think they’ll probably age similiar to trees. So 100+ years, I guess.

Opinion on mentor deaths

in Lore

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

But isn’t that the point? Losing your mentor should make you feel sad and upset. There’s already enough lighthearted storytelling in GW2. It’s just silly when everyone you meet survives every calamity. This is a world that is besieged by several elder dragons simultaneously afterall. Claw Island is that one victory Zhaitan has in order to be perceived as a “threat”. At least in the personal story of your character.

I know, but I still would love to see possibility to see them again…well, Sieran perhaps not so much but Tybalt and Forgal were nice guys with likable character designs. it’s sad to have them outside of the story so fast and having, for example, kasmeer in the story instead. :/

Quaggan Hat, Plush Quaggan and Finisher

i don’t like the hat and the backpiece too much because they don’t fit the rest of the armor of my characters that well but the finisher is very cute and the tonics are also pretty funny. It’s so cute when the quaggan does a dodge roll.
I’ve got the mail carrier too and it’s one of the coolest in my opinion.
