it would be nice to make it more rewarding to come back to lower level areas again though.
I prefer events happening on a lesser strict schedule too, since now it is that the people are just camping at the spawn point of the respective world boss without doing much pres or anything else on the map.
That must be boring in the long run.
don’t know which cities you go to but practically every time i’m in DR, LA or Rata Sum theres some dumb afker polluting the place with those kittenty kitten scripts.
I’m usually just in the big cites to sell stuff, craft or to meet up with friends, so I don’t spend big amounts of time there. I’m not a too big friend of spending hours in one place doing nothing in video game…but well, when it fun for other…who am I to judge them?
how is it polluting when it sounds nice and is fitting the genre/mood?
Isn’t badly played “real instrument players” poluting the atmosphere of the game as well? or do you want to forbid these people playing the instruments too and just the 2% of the players that actually make it sound nice are allowed to play around with it?
why is it pollution just because it is premade?
Music on CDs and MP3s is also premade and I can still enjoy it.
The emote animations of the game are also programmed and I still like them.
I can understand people, that spend time getting good with it, wanting to be recognized for it. i also sometimes catch myself thinking “people should start picking up a real bow” instead of using digital orchestra libraries to mimic my instrument.
yes it is more challenging to play for real, but in the end, that’s not what matters for the average user and listener.
They want to hear nice music not the sound of people arythmicly smashing their head on the keyboard, just because it’s lagging again. They don’t care how it is made, as long as it sounds nice.
Also just because they use macros doesn’t mean these people don’t spend hours of trying around to make it sound good as well.
You need to have a good ear and/or have basic knowledge of timing, chords and have to be able to read sheet music as well. Especially when you work with classical music in different keys.
of course there are always people that make it easy for themself, but just because of that you shouldn’t call the effort of others wanting to make some thing nice for the community “pollution”. :C
Not to forget that they don’t have any advantage over other players by doing that. the Music has no effect in any way on leveling, fighting or loot. It just to make the time of the people a bit sweeter while wating on something else.
I’d still prefer an in-game tool though. ould make the life much easier.

Just posting this message to kittening fix the kittening forum kittening bug.
Stop this. I’m allergic to cats. :I
there are always people that are bit more sensitive, but A.net can also not completely protect them. I think the community is already pretty awesome, so when the person feels offended, they should just report and that’s it.
The mods can decide afterwards if the report was justified.
I think Ebonhawk and the Ascalonians with the destroyed city, the little bubbles of animousity, but the overall will for peace. After being very strong in the past, being hurt, broke now, feeling weak and left alone or misunderstood by their allies (Queen Jenna), fits the Germans after WW2 much better.
the humans have killed many charr and grawls. they treated the other species as animals and even made armor out of the dead charr. Socially dehumanizing people is one of the main dynamics that happen all kind of situation when a state/society is killing other humans . it is important to keep the rules of society intact and make sure that morally it is still forbidden to kill “humans” , since when it is allowed to kill humans the society wll bit by bit lose it’s protection and support function, which is one of the major functions why people form a group. You can see that very well in German history but also in the history of other countries.
Or hen we want to stay in the fantasy genere I’d call it the Stormtrooper-syndrom. they don’t seem “human” so it “feels” less morally wrong to kill them without guilt.
I think it was a similiar process with the humans of Guildwars1 treating most of the charr as soulless animals instead of sentient beings.
the Ascalonians did terrible things, but they also have seen their nation getting rollercoastered by the charrs and have experienced their people getting killed and their houses getting burned down and now they’re weak, having to deal ith the aftermath and policially wedged in between the two strong nations, kryta and the charr. I think that fits Germany if the late 40ies to the 80ies of the 20th century pretty well.

I’m on the EU servers, and of course I don’t unterstand everything said, since i don’t know all the languages, but I never heard anything really racist and meant to be degrading. There are sometimes jokes about other region/nationalities, but you can feel that they meant as fun and jokes. Generally this is a very friendly community.
there were some rare cases form sexist patter, but you find these guys everywhere, not just online, and if it’s too bad: report.
yes there is people talking about sex sometimes , but the game is PG12+ and at that age most people should already have had some sexual education in school so theoretically the mechanics should be clear for everyone that is old enough to play the game.
If it get’s too bad, report it, but I’ve yet to read a chat message, that’s not save for teens.
@Donari.5237 : could also be French. The only words i can remember in that language are swearwords and I believe “put” is the shortword for a woman that sells her body.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
I’d call it frutex multipedes kryta.
Tt is native in Tyria and not an known plant on earth.
Yes, some of the Vistas are a bit frustrating, but I still like them.
I like the short videos, and i like jumping down from high up places into water
(wouldn’t do that in real life since I’ve got acrophobia).
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
I like the idea.
but at the other hand, the map chat is also a nice thing. you get to “talk” with all different people wile waiting on events.
i like it better, when it is pre-made and sounds good then when i get annoyed by random badly played instruments.
it also excludes people with a " not-so-great" internet conection from using instruments to bring actual fun to other players.
also, atleast on the EU server, it is pretty seldom that I see someone play an instrument. It’s not like it is overused, since it is still a gemstore item, you’ve got to pay for with real money.

You know i want half naked armors for the guys in the regular game, not in an April fool’s way. :I
My guardian would love to show his buttocks in a cheek-free pants.
We could all be potted plants or giant broccolis hopping around. that would be very HoT-themed and it would look funny.
<3 I like your voice and accent.
Such a nice song.
Not all human women are frail and weak during pregnancy. I remember reading a news article about a woman who ran (and won) a marathon and then gave birth hours later.
I actually have a backstory for my charr that his mom ended up killed during a dragon attack soon after birthing him and it was a pair of humans that took care of him for the first 3 years of his life. The idea being he eventually goes to a fahrar and even grows up with a warband, but the bond of a family goes both ways (family to child as well as child to family). I think it’d be an interesting dynamic to write around, a charr dealing with these conflicting ideologies. . . Or has this story been written already lol?
You’re right.
I know several women who worked until birth and started a few weeks after birth again. one of them had already 7 children, while one was disabled and could walk very well, so it had to be carried up and down the stairs.
But in the overall modern western concept, people expect women to take it a bit easier if they start to look really pregnant.
even though the annoying and dangerous phase is probably early pregnance when most women don’t even tell anyone that they’re expecting.
I think it would be very difficult for your cub to be accepted and it is probably a bit more difficult in training, since the other cubs have had already atleast 2 years of training, when your cub starts out.
but i think when your cub has potential one of the adult fahrar leaders would take it under their wings and give it some extra training.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
while I think that A.net probably borrowed some stuff from real world history and cultures, i don’t think you can make an analogy like that.
The Charr are still a militaristic species which doesn’t fit to Postwar Germany at all. The Charr didn’t lose a war, they managed to accomplish their main goal, reconquering Ascalon.
The Charr didn’t get parted in zones and they for sure didn’t lose contact to half of their people because of other nations playing cold war.
but first and most important the Charr didn’t start with an “hour 0” like Germany.
they still had a culture, they still knew they were charr, there was no culture of feeling guilts about what their ancestors did, they had buildings and they still had the hierachical structure of their society.
Germany after WW2 was a mess. The houses and cities were destroyed, the laws and the constitution wasn’t valid anymore, the Germans didn’t even know if there would be a Germany again. The national identity was scattered, which was a pretty drastic change especially since the state before was so strongly focusing on national identity.
Not to forget that the Cold War made Germany a playball between America and the Soviet Union.
i think another important difference, is that the Germans of Postwar Germany got back to their selfimage from the 19th century, as “poets and thinkers” and the typical structure of “Schaffe schaffe Häusle baue” (work, work, build houses), which is not fitting the selfimage of the Charr at all.
Charr are predatory creatures that work together in a Warband and legion to conquer. They build and create and do diplomacy, but they don’t do it to make themself a home again. they do it to bring forward the strategy of conquering.
And actually I have the feeling that the charr need outside enemies, like the Ascalonian ghosts and the humans and now the Dragons, because otherwise the legions and warband would start to fight each other.
So they use outside “problems” as a distraction from disputes within their own society.
And this is a concept that is also known from other countries like America or Russia for example.
Another wellknown concept that we know from tons of other nations is “We snatch a piece of land from another ethnicity and then tell it’s our own homeland and we have a birthright to own it and settle there”.
We have seen this in history with Germans, Dutch, Americans, Britains, Romans, Russians, Israelis, to some point Greeks, Turks, Chineses, Japaneses… etc.etc.
that doesn’t mean that the Charr are meant to be an analogy of any of these ethnicities and cultures, but that A.net used this concept to make their point of the charr being species that is focus on war and conquer, but that their culture also justifies this as an in-born right.
I’m actually slightly annoyed by this. Not every war-focused or “evil” fantasy species is meant to be an analogy to the Germans or the Russians. There is a reason why it is called “fantasy”. Yes, there may be motifs and concepts of the real world cultures and history used to make story-wise a certain points across. but that doesn’t make them “German” or “Russian” ir “Roman” or “American”.
A.net would be pretty stupid if they used their species as direct analogies to real world nations, because there are players from that nations too, and most people don’t like being limited by stereotypes.
If I were you, I’d try to find a different thesis for which you can find more literature and scientifically usable sources.
BTW: I think as a German four generations after the war, I don’t feel much animousity from the people form other nations from my genetration. there’s some from people that were child back then, but I can understand why.
the animousity of some Americans and the practice of using the nickname of “the nationalsocialistic party in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century” to jokingly talking about nitpicking or very strickt behaviour is more influenced by the depiction of Germans in modern media as “classical bad guys” than actual contact ith the German nationality.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
I don’t have a big problem with people talking about sex, the activitiy, in the chat.
When they start to insult others I report and otherwise I ignore things, that I’m not interested in.
I had mainly contact with semingly female players though.
I personally find it very difficult to play songs with the instruments because of lags.
I play an instrument myself and it is kind of difficult to get the rythm right, when the tone comes out 1-2 second after you “produced” it.
I’m okay with the key system, my only problem is that the sound is so delayed.
I now externely play in the music with the much more responsive tool of the website http://www.gw2mb.com and then play them as macros.
I like that the charr run on all fours. It’s sometimes a bit more difficult to navigate (I just recently started playing the charr, before I’ve played mostly norn) but that’s okay since it is one of the things that make the charr cool and unique.
I don’t like a lot of the clothing choices though…I personally find longer coats and most helmets just looks stupid and inpractical on the charr.
I’d prefer more specialized clothing for them.
Not only that.. I’ve bought a few outfits from the gemstore (like the northern explorer outfit for example) for my characters, and while they look cool on sylvari, norn and human, they look just fat and silly on my charr. :C
You what is really silly?
that charr women, that have fur everywhere and don’t even have noticable boobs wear a bikini top. :I
I don’t get it.
just why?
especially since the rest of the charr clothing looks pretty much unisex.
why is it awkard to get a child when in the frontlines.
Alfi was actually born while his mother was stationed in the frontlines in the north, so obviously there are charr women in duty during their pregnancy.
I think the main thing to remember is, that charr are not humans, so charr pregnancies probably also “feel” different than human pregnancies.
They’re a predatory cat-like species, so when wanting to find out how charr women act, when pregnant we should probably look more how tiger, lions and other big cats act while pregnant.
Most predators don’t stop hunting, just because they’re pregnant…it’s not like you’re sick, when you’re pregnant, most of the time, when it is a normal pregnancy, you can be the normal lioness that supports their pack with food, like before the pregancy until right before delivery date.
You also have to be fast in getting well soon enough to support and protect your litter.
Charr of course aren’t cats, but that’s where they come from, so it is probably normal them too, to be pretty able to do their work until right before birth and start working as fast as they could after birth again.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
I don’t have nearly as much, but when I’ve hoarded enough I’m buying Goedulf.
I think, just because they working in a job behind the lines doesn’t necessarily make them a gladium.
While the charr are for sure a very war-focus species, they also have people that work behind the front-lines, for example craftsmen and farmers. the Farmers have a surname and don’t seem to have a negative image, so Iconsider them as members of a warband that not directly involved in the war.
If you want that both fathers and mothers are working and you also want to have well educated soldiers in the next generations and evaluate the talent of the cubs, you need someone that is good at that job.
So i suppose the adult “leaders” of the Fahrars are part of a warband that especially educated for educating and evaluating the cubs. .)
they for sure have lower position than our hero, but that doesn’t necessarily make them a Gladium.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
The Charr also attacked Orr and Kryta. Which was not their land.
I think it was more about just killing humans rather than regaining land but that’s just me.I think the Charr’s actions have been glorified a lot. As Aaron already pointed out, they did many horrible things and it wasn’t just some noble struggle to regain their homeland. It was one big slaughter, torture, genocide and cannibal fest. And if it was really just about regaining their land, then why attack the other human nations as wel?
BUT that was then. I like the present day Charr, they are definitely the good guys. All the main races are. Except maybe the plants. ^^
While I’m generally your opinion, I don’t really get, why they were canibals.. they ate humans, but they are a different species, so this wouldn’t be cannibalism. Did they also eat other charr and I overlooked it?
How funny Oreithyia, I was thinking about this the other day because I have a female Charr guardian and I was wondering what kind of maternity leave the warbands have (does that make me weird?).
Anyway – lorewise – do pregnant females become gladium until they give birth or are they considered inactive members of the warband? Also, are there any actual farrars in game? There is a devourer hatchery in Diessa Plateau but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a farrar. Or am I thinking of it in the wrong way – is the farrar an organizational category like “warband” or a place like “school”?
i don’t think they become a gladium by getting pregnant. they’ll probably be active until it really doesn’t work anymore and then they’ll be an inactive member of their warband until the cub is born. It’s probably similiar to a charr that got injured, that they are out of combat and do something to support the warband behind the lines until their injury healed and then they can go back in combat or if it is permanent find another useful job.
After Birth they give the cub in the Fahrar as fast as possible to get back to their work… that’s way I interprete it.
there is this cub, Pica, in the Ashfurt forum that tells another cub, Alfi, that it was a bit late in the Fahrar, since its mother was stationed in the Brand, it was already 6 months after they stopped nursing until it came to the Fahrar.
Alfi said he was late because his mother has born him while stationed at the Frontlines, so it is pretty sure she as in a warband and not a Gladium.
We can be pretty sure it is considered normal to give the cub to the Fahrar after they’re weaned.
The only thing we don’t know is how long a charr cub is usually been nursed.
if it were by cat standard, it would be 8-14 weeks, if it were by human standard it would be around six months to a year.
I personally prefer 8-14 weeks, since it keeps the time away from the job short and the the cubs grow up and do all their bonding usually within the fahrar and later their warband.
i think the Fahrar is more a cathegory like “warband”, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there is a place. It’s more the name of a group of cubs being trained/evaluated/guarded by some adult charr.
But I’m sure there a group rooms for Fahrars that we just don’t get to see.
I’m sure you find a lot of nice bassguitar samples in a lot of digital orchestra libraries, so why does it have to sound like a bad synthecizer? did they do the sound recording during their lunch break?
It’s sad, because the insrument look pretty cool.
change all PVE oponents including the Worldbosses to Skritt of different size and change their voice/sound to skritt voices. <3
If I were a charakter in-game I’d probably be something lame, like a human citizen in Divinity’s Reach or a random Dregde. So I’d probably would even deserve a name story-wise.
Rodrigo is a bada*s name btw.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
I liked the idea bassguitar, but sadly it sounds pretty bad.
I continue sticking with the harp for now.
hm. I take generally names I like and not necressarily some that fit the setting. ^^"
my first 2 characters have names that fit my account name.
Oreithyia was a Nymph that was married to the Northwind, Boreas. The name means “storming through the Mountains”, So the meaning is kind fitting for a Norn Woman, eventhough it doesn’t sound very Nordic.
Oreanthus, the name of my human guy, is just a lazy modification of this name.
I think the name of my Sylvari is the one that fits a RP-setting the most…“Bláithín” means “little flower” in gaelic.
My Asura (I deleted it) was named “Kazonkh Zawoosh”…just sound words, but i think it sounds pretty Asuran for me.
The name of my Charr is “Antigone”, a Latin or Roman name would probably more fitting, but i like this one. her surname is Nasjakova, which doesn’t fit the setting at all, but I wanted my three (future) mains to be called “Ohri, Nasi und Bohri” as a nickname…which would translated to something like “Ear-y Nose-y and pick-y”…I know I’m very adult with this. XD
I’m lefty…I never really cared for my character being left or right handed (eventhough Link is the coolest, when he’s a lefty), but I think in PVP it would be perhaps funny if strikes of your lefthand melee weapon could “out dance” the block of the other Player if they expected a blocking a right hand strike.
I was watching a medieval stage combat team training for a few months the last year and they had one lefty in the group that could land several surprise hits, because his opponent blocked on the wrong side in reflex.
Would be cool, but probably wouldn’t work for GW2.
horses are kind of big and they taste well enough. So I think if there were wild horses in the nordic region, they would have been eaten by the charr and norn.
Both races wouldn’t be good in riding, because too big, too heavy and too much of the predator/hunter in them.
hm. this fits my thoughts.
Do you think it is likely that the PC has already offspring in some Farrar when the story begins?
It’s not like, for a charr, it would probably matter a lot for their everyday life since the everyday life is likely to be mostly military duty.
Some of the female charrs in the citadel talk about their offspring (today a scar, tomorrow a hero) and they don’t look older as the PC.
I’m playing with the German sound, so I’m not one hundred percent sure, if it is the same dialogues in the original.
this is cool.
I’m not a big sylvari player, but i like their concept and design And this text is awesome.
I’d like to try it, but I’m sick, so right now I have no voice.
but I already saved the text for when i can sing again.
you know the multilanguage version of original? never fails to make me teary. <3
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
You’ve got this part in the personal story if you choose the the honourless gladium option, where you can save or kill Vallus.
the PC always calls the their own Father by the Name, except of at the very end and they don’t seem to have close contact to neither the father nor the mother.
The very practical and military approach in combination with the cubs always mentioned to growing up and their talents being studied in a Farrar , I’m pretty sure that the concept and feeling of “family” is fastly replaced by feeling as a member of the respective warband.
So I’m pretty sure, that the concept of conception (sry for the bad pun) is less romantic and classically family-oriented in charr society than for example in human society, and it’s probably a lot more seen as producing new soldiers for the respective legion.
being a very practical race, also means they’ll probably let the females fight and join their warband again, as soon as they’re ready to go.
This could mean that the importance of “family” is probably seen as a duty to the legion to pass on good genes and produce new soldiers, and the emotional bond between parents and children being not really strong.
does this fit the race lore for charr? did i misinterpreted something?
We still had single Charr cubs in LA for example, so there must also be family concepts, where the cubs grow up with their parents and/or another adult guardian in a smaller context and not in a Farrar.
So I’ m a bit confused, how much family relations are actually seen as belonging to a family in the social sense and not seen as coming from a good, healthy, strong, loyal, whatever genetical background to support the own warband and legion.
I’m asking because have a few thoughts about fleshing out a background story for a female charr elemetalist.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
I like double axe.
I’m a noob and casual gamer, I don’t really care, about being the best.
I just think it looks cool and since i mainly play PVE it is okay like this. I don’t care much about PVP or WvW or if other classes are “better” I just like it.
the armor looks cool and I like thast the moves are not so “magical”.
I’ve aleady played warrior in GW1, since they didn’t die so fast, had the coolest armor and just didn’t look so much like a hooker, like some outfits for eles.
i also play other classes, but Warrior is especially fun to me.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
congratulations! your story is so nice!
In Germany we’d say “Strong men get daughters”!
Elona is a beautiful name.
Growing up with many sisters is great, I can tell you..I’ve got 3 sisters.

It happens since this morning, that shortly before a world boss should show up, there is a disconnect, and sometimes you even end up at the other side of the region map, when you log in again.
it’s seems like it was not only happening to me, but a big part of the players, that wanted to do the event.
I experienced this with Golem Type II [&BNQCAAA=], Modniir Ulgoth [&BLEAAAA=] and the Shatterer[&BE4DAAA=].
With Ulgoth we missed the event because of that. When people logged in again after the disconnect the pre-event was gone.
I’m playing on Riverside/Flussufer.

You know I don’t mind it that much when I’m alone, actually it is is quite funny to hear my norn warrior talking with an asura engi voice, but when you’re in a group this is really annoying, since you don’t know if this is the bug or if one of your group members really needs your help.
Kind of destroys the Roleplaying aspect too.
- I’m German with a Polish surname.
- I’ve got a lot of silblings.
- I’m pretty tall and also like playing tall characters (norn…charr… one of my favorite PC is a very small human guy though)
- I enjoy playing “female power fantasy”- like female character (IDC if they marysue, as long as they’re strong, cool and have an interesting character :I).
-I also like paying male characters in MMOs, since often they’re cooler and less annoying than all the females in chainmail bikinis…and I like scarred faces that look like the character already has been gone through a lot.
-I’ve got a rescue dog from Spain, he’s got stripes and likes gnawing on my hands
-I studied history and theology, then i worked and now I’m studying again
-I’ve got a tattoo
-I’m a little language geek…not a nerd though, because I’m not nearly as knowledgable enough for it.
-my favorite food is lasagna…and longly braised meat and vegetables.
-While I’m not a heavy Reenactor, I Iike wearing my “almost completely accurate” viking clothing on weekends (the fabric is chemically dyed and woven and it inaccurate for a common woman to wear such expensive colours, like red and deep indigo blue. I just think it looks better with blond hair than reseda yellow and birch green.)
-while being German, I prefer Vodka, Whiskey, Wine or non-alcoholic drinks (water, juice) over beer.
-I trained karate for a long time, but haven’t for a while now.
-I also play Violoncello and enjoy singing.
-I spend my nights for a big part with drawing and gaming.
-my favorite pokémon is Drowzee
-I’m a bit “special” when it comes to my hair. I like wearing elaborate braided hairstyles or copying historic hairstyles (I tried to reproduce Eirs hairstyle, but while my hair is long enough, it is definitively not thick enough for the ponytail thing at the back of her head).
-I cosplay…but not that active anymore…usually i get just 1-2 costumes done in a year and wear them for casual and fun…I don’t like competing in my hobbies. right now I’m working on a 17th century dress in the style of the late Elisabeth Stuart.
-while playing GW since prophecies(I think it was 2007 or 2008?), I’m still a noob in it . XD
-what still keeps me doing is all the exploring and talking with all NPCs.
-I’m pretty hyped about HoT right now.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
Well they also like tatoos and elaborate hairstyles, so I suppose they just like to looks fancy, like you said.
the client crashed several times yesterday in the evening. It can’t be my Internet connection (checked it) and I hadn’t a problem with this before the patch.
When I could log in again, the boss was dead and I didn’t get any loot or EP. Not nice. :I
the same thing happens to me too.
My female Norn is saying ‘Ich könnte etwas Hilfe gebrauchen" over and over again, with her own voice, the male human voice and the female human voice.
Her mouth moves fitting the shouts, so I’m pretty sure, that it is not another character.
It’s kind of annoying, because I usually actually look around if I can find and help the other player. Not to forget that I’m in a safe place and there’s nothing that could hurt my character except of my own stupidity. :I
It’s kind of funny when she says with the male human voice “Lust zu töten steigt!” (urge to kill rising), while casually standing there in her underwear, modeling for a fanart, but in the long run, I’d like to have this fixed.
But wouldn’t with a culture that hides weaknesses with clothing, the one with the most clothes considered the weakest?
This would very likely make the male norn be slightly weaker than the females.
I can see that happening.
I never got why Norn would wear cloths at all..except for that it makes humans uncomfortable. They don’t need them for getting themself warm, and I don’t think they’re depicted as prudish…their “cousins” the Jotun also run around almost naked after all.
the chainmail bikinis of the girls don’t exactly look like they can give any protection during a fight too, so I suppose Norn have some kind of special iron skin…they don’t need cloths. They’re just magical creatures like that.
I suppose wearing no cloths is also not that much sexually-connotated as in in-game human culture though, since as I see it the Norn are more into a capable person and big legends than into revealing clothing.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
Well there could be several reasons why they’re cousins eventhough their names state “oddsson” and “oddsdottir”.
First: just because someone is called “son” or “daughter” they don’t necessarily are the children by blood of the respective person. They could be adopted and Gullik or Gyda could be the child of a deceased silbling of Odd.
They could also not be named by the parents per se but by the farm/house of a respective Norn family.
Another possibility, which is kind of weird, but it happens…there could be just happen to be two Odds, that are related to each other. Some parents give their children very similiar or even the same name. I knew a family with 3 sons, and all three had the name “peter” as their second name. ^^"
Being called by a farm is typical in some villages in Northern Germany…my real name has nothing to with it, but as soon as I step into the village, I’ll be called by the family’s/farmer’s name, that got a piece of land there in the 12th century.
Other people get called by a specific ancestor/relative, that left a big impact on its surroundings…all men in one family are called “Piccolo” for example, because there as several generations ago a man that was very small and worked for a hotel.
I think the Norn also not always follow the rule of the person being called by their parents and have other name finding systems too, for example by their personal acchievements and legends, their occupation or a characteristic trait.

I think either they made a funny pun or they actually made a mistake when they translated “Revenant” into German. Revenant coming from lt. “revenire”- to come home/back means something totally different than Widergänger (“wider” means “against”/“counter” and"gänger" means “Walker”), but perhaps they just wanted to make to sound it less zombie-like, since that’s what the “Wiedergänger” ("wieder"means “again”)with an “e” basically is…the second one would be a closer translation to the “Revenant” though.
I’m a bit excited…seems like I have to bury one of my characters to try out that class. <3~
I really liked playing the Ritualist and the Derwish…their design was pretty cool. And I’d like to see what kind of heroes the Revenant can channel.

Yeah…my norn woman Orentyia being all “kawaii” and my human guardian Damon (like in that ballad of Schiller) being himself.
It’s your choice, who’s the beauty and and who’s the beast.
I’m probably more a “casual gamer” than a pro and I choose the weapons not necessarily by their highest usefulness but also if I like the skills and the look of the attacks.
I think a morningstar would be a nice weapon for a warrior, since they’re still close range weapons but can make extreme damage because of the lever action and you could make a nice area damage attack with it.
I think it would generally be nice if there’d be one specific exclusive weapons for the single races.
Like a electronic-looking weapon for the Asura, a cool steampunky weapon for the charr, a medieval age style of weapon for the humans and a more nordic- style kind weapon for the norn.
I’d think a spear would fit the Norn, since they designed slighly after Germanic people…one of explanation for the name is that the typical weapons was a spear, in old germanic language “Ger”.
I think you could find a nice skillset for all classes with that weapon.

“It would be really cool if there was a skin that looked more viking-like” I thought, and so I roughly sketched some viking clothing above my two Norn women.
Urte had to play the guy, because I don’t have a male Norn.
It’s more a “woah that would be cool”-sketch than a serious pic. ^^"

“Someone sings in the camp at night. Apparently it’s a norn mourning ballad. Saddest thing I ever heard.”(Crusader Aurus Fuseblight )
I think that the norn are more storytellers than people that sing in clean rhyme structures and a very lyrical language. So when they’d sing a sad song and not a drinking song it would probably about raw, brutal manry feels put in something that vagely reminds of a song…and problably they would be pretty drunk and sing it very off-key. XD
So this is my try to write " a sad norn ballad". It’s about the similiarity of Jotun and Norn, who both have a focus on individuality (bordering to narcism and egoism) and see it as very important to be strong and honour strong ancestors. While Jotun have a ancestor cult the Norn have a strong emphasis with making their legend last through generations.
they’re also similiar in body type.
So it seems to fit, that the Norn would make a song to remember the similarities between them, mourn for their lost home and stil lsay they’re much more awesome that anyone else and specifically the Jotun (since the spirits choose the Norn and not the Jontun) at the same time. ^^"
I first wrote it in my mother tongue ,since its easier for me and then translated. Some things don’t work one hundred percent, since in German you can use the same word for brain/mind/intelligence and spirit, which seems not to work that well in English.
the translation in English is below.
Bruder, sing mir dein Lied
von Eis, Schnee und einer Legende
die die Ewigkeit überdauert
Wenn dein Geist fällt
so bleibt doch die Erinnerung bestehen
solange dies Lied an den Feuern erklingt
denn
wir waren einst Brüder
Bruder Jotun!
wir glichen uns einst

Can you still sing my brother?
Once we were the same
We, who love the icy heigths of the Northern Shiverpeaks
we lived side by side
fought, killed, loved, honoured each other
like only brothers could.
But the honour is gone
the hills of our home are fallen to the Darkness
the ghosts [spirits] have left you
and with them you lost your ghost [sanity]
Once we were the same
and we loved the same life
the hunt and the fight
Brother, sing your song for me
about ice and snow and a Legend
that lasts throughout the eons
Your ghost [sanity] may fall
but the memory will stay alive
as long as this song can be heard at the fire places
Because
Once we were brothers
brother Jotun!
Once we were the same
