While I think that the strategic element is important as far as motivation, training and recruiting (means activating the potential of the own server) is concerned, I doubt that it ever was intended that servers buy guilds from other servers to improve their coverage.
Having the point of view of a German server there are hardly any German-speaking guilds outside of CET-time zone.

I mean, I don’t know whether it was intended that servers can buy guilds, but it’s not exactly against the rules. And I think my comment applies to recruitment and community-building in general, not just buying guilds.

What kind of sense does it have to recruit/buy a guild for a server, that for a big portion discusses tactics in a language they are very likely not able to understand.
German servers have a population that is for the biggest portion speaking German very good or is even a native speaker (or Austrian /cough). the most German natives live in the same CET time zone.
Of course the people could have discussions in English, but not everyone is that good in English or wants to use it in their freetime…and what would be the use of the DE-server anyway, if not make it easier to connect with people speaking your language and so make it easy to communicate with them?

i don’t know if it solves the problem as a whole, but for someone who’s mainly playing PVE and just visiting WvW from time to time, this would be nice, if it doesn’t get abused by the players.
Perhaps only commander with active commander tag and a certain amount of WvW experience points can post notifications in that system?

EU is mainly +1 gmt thus if u take +1 gmt as prime time from let say 19:00 till 00:00 and after that u change the ticks in a way that capping stuff doesnt make the

Here is where you make the biggest mistake you could. Settling a prime time based on what you’re used is just plain wrong.
I’m from Spain and here the prime time is from 10pm to 3am CET. Then you need to count English and Portuguese people who live in CET -1. Then all Russian people who play CET +1 or even more. Then…

The same way you want score to stop after midnight, I want it to stop after 3am… Don’t you realize how selfish is this?

As far as I know the people in Asia also play on the EU severs relatively often and people from Korea for example are more likely to play on a EU-wide server with english as dominant language, than on an ES or FR server. So you got to count with much bigger timezone differences, in my opinion.

I’m not a big WvW-player, i just do it for dailies or fun from time to time, but I think the problem is with severs with majorly players from one region, that play almost all in the same Timezone (i.e. players having similiar times they’re off-line because of work/education/life/sleep), like the FR and DE severs for example, being matched up with over-regional severs with players in different areas of the world (Russians and asians also like to play on EU severs for example), like the EU-wide servers, that have very different time-zones and so have it easier to mobilized bigger group of players during the non-peak-times of the DE, FR, ES servers.
the thing is, i don’t think this is so easy to solve, since you can’t forbid people to play in their free-time, just because their opponent is at work or asleep at that time.
It also seems to me (as I said, I’m not a pro WvW-player) like the national servers sometimes don’t even try anymore, when playing against the biggest EU-servers…they just do’nt do much WvW until the week is over…which is kind of boring for both sides.

One thing, that you could think about, even though it would be unpopular, would be to merge smaller national servers together. but even then you’d have the problem of the different timezones.
One reason the people playing on DE,FR,ES servers probably chose their servers, was that they can communicate in their native language and don’t have to type in English, so merging the different language servers to another EU server, would give a lot of backlash.
There are enough French, Spanish and German native speakers on EU servers, the ones that aren’t probably have a reason why they want to stay on a Server with another dominant language than English.

I’d just be happy if my female human Necro would say ‘centaur’ correctly. Very disappointed when I found out who the voice actress was as well.

But the question then becomes which is the correct way to say it? Example if you are American it is said “centar”. If you are from pretty much anywhere else in the world you will hear what is in my opinion the correct way to say it “centor”.

See the problem here?

the word centaur is probably pretty difficult in a lot of the non-greek languages…the gree sometimes do weird stuff with their pronunciation that not easy to copy, for people from other languages of the indo-european background. So all the non-greek make it kind of fit their own language…including AE and BE.
please remember, we’ve got already several voice samples, so you can hear your character speak with different voices already, like french [‘sentoX] (voiceless alveolar fricative, nasalized open back unrounded vowel, voiceless alveloar stop, open-mid back rounded vowel, uvular fricative), or Spanish [sen’tau?o] (voicess alveolar fricative, midfront unrounded vowel, alveloar nasalvoicels alveolar stop, open central unrounded vowel, close back rounded vowel, alveloar tap,mid back rounded vowel)or German [tsen’tau?] (voiceles alveolar fricative, midfront unrounded vowel, alveloar nasal, voicelss alveloar stop, open central unrounded vowel, near-close-near-back vowel, near-open central vowal ).
You have already a lot of proper pronounced choices and they all speak the second syllable different, so I’m sure you find one that meets your taste.
the voice over in not bound to the text, so you will stil understand everything even if your monolingual English, as long as you’re able to read.

don’t get me wrong, I’d love some different voices….for example a younger (like in her 20ies) sounding voice for the human female for example would be very nice.
but this would need a lot of time, money and work dedicated something relatively small and I’d like to spend them these resources on other thing in the game before.

I don’t think the Asura care. They are not human. And they don’t even have boobs so why should they botrher to hide their chest? they’ve other stuff, like giant ears and sharp teeth and I suppose some of these things are, what is seen as attractive within their own race, so they don’t even think about it being an issue unless running into Humans (Norn also seem not to care and charr women also don’t have boobs, that you can see).
Their social norms and gender rules differ from the humans. I’d be sad if A.net would water that down more, than they did already with the outfits.
It’s great that the races think vdifferent about some stuff…and Asura would look weird with female armor that is made to emphasise the humanoid female bust.

  • worst polluters of Tyria
  • militaristic rivalitery from birth on
  • used weapons of mass-destruction against a peaceful city
  • mass-murderer and destructors of Ascalonian culture

I also always wondered how they evolve: horns (a defensive weapon of an gregarious animal) on a predator animal. They must be th result of an drunken genetic engineer

What does ‘narcissism beyond compare’ have to do with what race you choose to play?

i think "narcissism "is the wrong word, but probably it is easier for people to identify themself with a human than with a non-human race like the Asura or charr.
this explains also why some of the people playing non-human races try to fit them into the “real” human norms of gender dimorphism and asking for dresses and human-girly accessoires for races than have lore-wise a relatively gender-equal system.

An Asura would probably not care for the other characters biological sex or gender as long as they’re doing their job, with charr, except flame legion, it is similiar. so it is not socially supported to over-emphasise the own gender or biological sex.
Also…since they look very different than humans it is highly probably that they look at other attributes when they’re searching for a partner.
like intellect, hierarchical/social position, health, nice ears, sharp claws, a fitting temeperaments… it is very unlikely that a Asuran or Charr male would choose a partner of their own race for their boobs or hourglass figure.

of course HoT is for casuals. just because it is endgame, doesn’t mean that it is not for casuals. casual player may need longer to reach endgame than people that play the game 6-12 hours a day, but they still reach it.
It would be stupid of A.net to exclude the casuals from an expansion pack and keep the majority of the players from playing the content. Plus these people probaly work and so are more likely to buy stuff from the gemshop, than people that have the time to play 6-12 hours a day.
i still thought BW2 was okay in the difficulty though. it was also already stated, that the drop in difficulty in BW3 was not intended by A.net.

I think it would be cool, when the armor breaks, you’re not just in bikini or speedo and otherwise look perfectly healthy and fine, but that the character looks atleast a bit like they were in a fight…not completely gore-like, but perhaps some bruises or cuts on the skin instead of the armor parts than are broken.
I’d buy that.

generally bruises, cuts and scars to show that my character is making his/her living with fighting in a war would be cool.

I personally thinks it’s a bit too much, I was playing the shadow of the dragon one and i got my kitten beat, like literally my health went down to 18000 and my armor was shot. After that it just became tedious rather than exciting. I was playing my engi and although I’m not an expert, I wouldn’t say I’m complete kitten either. If they want to underline how threatening the dragon is, they should do it by story not long times battling and breaking all my armour. A good game, or story should be able to be soloable without being frustating or time-consuming but I guess that’s just my opinion on it. Besides the story quests being put at a too difficult level, solo wise, the only other probable reason would be that engis got nerfed or my toon’s not kitted up properly.

don’t you think it i kind of epic that you fought so hard that you’re just in bikini or speedos at the end of the battle? these speedos are not damaged at all and there’s not a single cut or bruise on the skin.:)
And the story is soloable even by a casual like me.
it was frustrating until I figuered out that some weapons don’t work so well for the shadow, but then it was actually cool.

it’s also a great class to start when new to the game, in my opinion, because it is not as squishy as other classes and the skill set is pretty easy to understand and control (Engineer is probably more difficult in that for exampleand I managed to kill myself several times with mesmer).
the warrior is melee for a big part, he’s a heavy armor class, but he’s not the highest damage dealer in the game…
I personally would advice you to try out every class out and then decide.
Being part of a bigger guild of casual players, with people you can ask while gaming and that perhaps help you leveling, can also help chosing the right class for a main.

I loved the Charr race in GW1. In GW2 they seem to have been watered down quite a bit. I still like my Charr characters ( I have 3 ) but I have no plans to make any more of them.

I also don’t particularly care for how they have been sissified by a particular group of players, but that doesn’t stop me from playing mine the way I envision them.

the charr in GW1 were also awesome. i think they had to be watered down to be a playable race and to fit in the plot with them working together with everyone inside the pact.

i don’t know what you mean with sisifiying them…i think it is very difficult to make a charr look like a sissy. even wearing a pink tutu makes them look more funny and cool than sissy.

by the aestetics of the characters alone Sylvari and Asura, by aestetics of the cities Asura and charr.
i really like the deathstar-look of the black citadel and the rusty metal theme and Rata Sum feels like running around on a ginat space ship which is just cool. Asura and charr also have the coolest animations in my opnion. I like my charr running on four legs and how crazily high the asua can jump. playing asura feels so fast which fits them great.

I also like the Norn, but I personally don’t think Hoelbrak is fitting the lore and culture of the Norn well…I really like the lonely homesteads in the shiverpeaks though.
I also would have prefered it, when there was at least one body model for the females to make them look more like their male counterparts. Perhaps that’s something, dear A.net I’d like to have in the total-makeover-pack. Some of the Norn women are just human in big, which is kind of sad and boring in my opinion. I, as a female player, want have the possibility to play a massive overly muscular female norn please.

humans…it’s not that I hate them, but when it comes to the visual things, I think the other races are more interesting, becuae they are what makes GW2 different from other MMOs. DR and Ebonfalke are still great cites to run around in and I kind of like the starting areas a bit more than the others though.
A few more african looking faces would be nice and i really would like to have a smooth topknot choice for my guardian of canthan descent.

One way to get a Bipedal charr is to make them an engineer and always use kits. you can’t holster a kit so they always have their hands full.

And if you trait streamlined kits you’ve virtually got permanent swiftness.

EDIT: Also I like the look of the new outfit we got.

the Wedding outfit for the charr is also awesome, when you dye it in the right colours. the female one reminds me of asian clothing and the male one of greek or roman civil clothing…it is kind of cool.
the last new outfits also had something to overlap, so the tail doesn clip through the armor, I like that.

to topic: i think a lot of the averagely casual players play one or two of the non-human races plus humans. It’s probably pretty seldom that someone has not atleast one human among their toons, even if they like another race more.

it’s sad that they closed the race subforums.

I do know of the self styling kits, I use the new long one also, and the bun type one. It’s nice to hear peoples opinions on this like I have said tho, I would be nice to have a wider variety of the longer type hair for the people who want something different then the ‘edgy thorn type’

These are a few of the ones I designed that I thought would look nice on a sylvari- I used my main as a model.

those designs all look like normal human hair, which is not fitting the overall design of the sylvari in my opinion. them being plant-people is what makes them cool after all…I wouldn’t like to see them turned in another boring fantasy-elvish race.
The face also doesn have much of the plant-like beautiful creepyness of the sylvari in them…I’m sorry but i actually like the standard designs that are thorny and spiky and leafy a lot. next to the charr (which actually have much more boring hair) they’re my favorite when it comes to the overall design.
the problem with longer hairstyles is also that a lot of them clip ugly through all kind of armor.

Are Children Under 10 allowed to play GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

well in the end it is up to the parents or guardians of said children, what they let their children play. A-net can not clearly control who’s behind the keyboard.
I have seen grandmas buying their 6-year-olds GTAV and the seller can’t do anything, because the grandmother was clearly over 18 years old… I think GW2 is not such a bad choice for a child in comparison.
being fantasy, the setting is a lot more like traditional fairytales than more realistic games. fairytales can be kittening creepy (ever read “the Juniper tree” from the grimm brothers?) and a lot of children love them.
Generally with every videogame, the parents and/or guardians should check what the little ones are playing and talk and explain things they don’t understand and just keep an eye on them, so they don’t get into trouble.

So, OP, the answer seems pretty plain. Ask their parents.

Honestly, isn’t that the way it should be? I remember when I was a kid having my dad march in to the local library and tear in to the librarian for attempting to censor what books I could check out. I was eight years old, I couldn’t have an “adult” library card without him acquiring it for me, had no way of getting to the library without him to take me there, and as a responsible parent it was his job and pleasure to review every book selection I made. Beyond the warnings he had to agree to so I could have an unrestricted library card in the first place it was simply none of her business. That was his responsibility.

you know, I was under 10 when I read time documents of Mengele in the Library, I wish the librarian would have stopped me… had bad dreams for years about that. I think it is totally okay for them to keep an eye on children. Sadly a lot of parents don’t check what their offspring is reading.

this is Antigone, she’s a young charr from the iron legion.
she’s Elementalist and is very loyal to her legion.
Anti was living relatively sheltered for the first few years of her period of service reparing and building machines for her legion. since it was a relatively quiet and secure job for a charr, she had 3 cubs during that time which she gave to the fahrar like it is tradition in her culture.
Now she’s working for her legion inside the pact and is on her way to the maguuma jungle…she knows her kids are safe and well-cared for in the fahrar but she still tries to send letters to their primus from time to time to find out how they’re doing. Since she’s meddlesome and likes to take everything in her own paws the primus is happy that she’s so far away.
She’s a pretty annoying tiger mom.

Oreanthus is a human guardian. He was born in a simple military family, but when his father died while on duty, one of the higher-ups adopted the baby, so he grew up as a noble. He can’t remember his biological parents.
he’s a spoiled brat and likes flirting with girls a little bit too much, but in the end he’s not a bad person and tries hard to do his best and make his social parents proud.

https://youtu.be/XwfhSrjyrbU?t=3m47s For the people acting like VA can’t make or break a scene.

We’re not saying it cannot. We are saying it’s not as important a factor as it would be in an actual movie. I click “skip” several dozen times per day so i’m not exactly bothered by how the VA is in the cutscenes i skip.

You know I use the German VA and not the American English one, so i can not talk about what the Americans do with their voices, but I really like to hear the characters talk (except human female PC voice…she sounds like a grandma, thew voice doesn fit the design and age of the PC in my opinion) . I don’t mind written dialogue, but it most of the voices are kind of cool.
People that do a good job should be paid fairly for what they do and it is totally okay for them to get their share of the cake, when the game turns out to be very succsesful. I think it is not something unreasonable to ask for.

(the OT thing about movie dubs…it depends. In Germany a lot of movies get dubbed and we have a relatively good industry for these dubs. Not all are better than the original, but some are. the VA of Mushu in Disney’s Mulan is for example is better than the American voice and Elisabeth Volkman as Marge Simpson was lengendary. A lot of the dialogue in Anime gets fit into the American culture in translation, which is depending on the story and context, can be cool, sad or even insulting. The American dub of Hetalia is a good example for that. Every character has such a strong pseudo accent except the American Character, that has perfectly understandable accent. Making fun of other nationalities while tiptoeing around your own isn’t nice, when you want to sell the project internationally. Plus the American dub making fun of German past in a cringeworthy way, makes it even more unlikely that we’ll be able to buy a German version at some point.)

Asura and Charr Femininity!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Oreithyia.3064

I personally think that charr look terrible in human dresses.
I like the war skirts they have sometimes and I think skirts inspired by samurai armor or a kilt look actually pretty cool, but stuff like the fancy winter outfit just look terrible on them.
in most cases I think the male/unisex outfit is the better choice for charr.
In my headcanon the charr women show their feminity in other ways than humans. being succesful in their profession, having a high position in their warband and legion and being generally fit, helthy and in good shape is probably more important for them to find a good partner to produce offspring and having a pretty gender equal society (except fire legion) they probably have more important things on their mind than looking feminine by human standards.

for asura i thinkit is something different, because they’re clearly designed to be creepy-cute so cute stuff like bows, cute hairstyles fit them very well in my opinion.
However I think that probably everything that makes their ears look big and awesome is probably considered as pretty for Asurans.
since they come from deep down in the earth, it was darker there, which explains why they like clothing with glowing stuff, but generally probably, because their sight was limited by the darkness and them having sensitive, big ears, I suppose having a nice voice and sounding intelligent has probably a much higher impact for them than being the prettiest of the prettiest in looks.
it would be interesting if the fact that they’re on the surface now, will make them change in looks in the next several thousend Tyrian years, with the ears and eyes becoming smaller and them becoming slightly bigger.

Honestly I beleave (My opinion that is) that making umm… More armor to make males look better will not have that big of impact. Yes it is as Zaoda says that there would be nice for more jackets, shirts, vests and stuff for medium armor and less robes for Light and so on. (This goes for females too actually)

I don’t think though that that will change the fact that the playerbase is mostly male and most males do like girl and thus rather like to see a girls behind rather than a males behind when they run around in the game.
[…]

Not to forget that there’s no armor for the guys where you can see the behind…sadly.
I like playing women, but I also would like to have some eyecandy fanservice, thank you very much.
the female playerbase in GW2 is relatively big in comparison to other games actually.
But a lot of the women want the character they’re playing to look pretty and this is easier with the female PCs than with male PCs.

I Could Outrun a Centaur!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

It annoys me mostly because they can’t even pronounce centaur correctly. It gives me flashbacks of the GW2 manifesto video with Colin smiling beautifully and saying ‘sen’ ‘tar’ over and over again. Repeat after me: ‘sen’ ‘tore’ (rhymes with door).

It’s an American game, made my American people, so it uses the American pronunciation.

More on topic, though, somehow the human boon dialogues don’t annoy me. Not sure how, especially with mostly human characters.
But I am getting sick of female sylvari stuff, one of which is a mesmer. So I do definitely agree that if Signet of Inspiration is on, then the frequency of boon dialogue should be turned down.

I usually try to use the original language of the game (i.e. english), but the American English in GW2 is actually a reason why I chose the German sounds instead.
American English doesn’t sound fantasy-like at all. Totally breaks immersion for me. it’s sad because i like the sylvari voiceacting in the English version.
German sounds good in fantasy settings.
The french version sounds funny but also kind of cool, but sadly a lot of shout don’t seem to have a voice over (the PC is pretty quiet) but that could also be a choice for people that don’t like american voiceacting…since there is another toggle for the text language you can still read the English text and don’t have to deal with the American voices.

that would be nice. not a big thing, but it would be cool.
You’d feel like Link. °w°
you basically just needed to mirror the character+ its animations, so designwise the work should be that manageable…don’t know how it is with implementing and space for data though.

→weapon skins in “Mary Poppins” style.
- “classy black umbrella” scepter (opens when in use)
- “big ugly handbag” focus.

Samurai-inspired armor/outfit like this
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/35/c2/78/35c278ac5fa514103d35ec4a7d7c49e7.jpg
then the bunny ear-fetishists can finally shut up. and we get badkitten armor. :I
Plus Cantha is love…and samurai-style stuff can look really awesome on Charr in my opinion.

→as a “meatoberfest”-memorial: “traditional dress” outfits.
- lederhosen and dirndl for Norn (let’s face it the balconies of the norn girls and dirndls are a match made in heaven)
- Alsacian traditional dress for Asura (those big bows/hoods would looks soo adorable in the Asuran girls)
-a mediterranean style costume like Sardianian traditional dresses for humans
-something heavy armor like for charr, because charr look very silly in human fabric dresses like the fancy wintersday outfit demonstrated beautifully. Perhaps something with a very fancy headress like in some mongolian traditional dresses.
I also believe charr look really cool in scottish traditional outfits. the skirts are also probably also easier to design to have this kind of thingie like the weddings outfit, that the tail doesn’t clip so much.
-I don’t know about sylvari… since personally i think they look in their cultural armor the best (the mrdrem outfit is cool for them too though). they just look the best in plant-like armor in my opinion.

→more cool male hairstyles. especially a clean TOPKNOT. I need this.

A non-Scandinavian Norn?

in Lore

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

Norn are Norn. they are fantasy being that change a will into animal form…humans usually don’t do that, so don’t see the Norn being bound to a specific culture on the real world.
I’ve seen awesome Norn with dark skin and they didn’t look out of place at all. Norn are also inspired by the North American Natives so I think it fits them just as well to have a dark skin and hair as having pale skin ad hair.
The Norn have a nomadic culture, so if it is this nomadic lifestyle than you’re at the right adress but no Norn will ever be a"Roma" or “Mongolian” or “Sami”.
GW2 is a fantasy game there are no Italians, Sinti, Americans or Swedes or any other real world nationality or ethnicity in this game… All playable races are in some way Tyrians belonging to different species.

Old looking characters/ toons

Oreithyia.3064

it is much easier to make a guy look old that the women.
I totally would like to have more battle-worn faces for women, especially norn and charr ladies of course.
the humans, i think I’d actually would love to have a younger voice… i personally think the voiceacting sounds much too old for the young faces of the human PCs. I like her voice and it is cool for the setting, I just don’t think it fits the characters age and look.
that the German human woman sounds like she’s in her fifties (and she’s born 1962 according to wikipedia) and she’s speaking a character that looks like 14-18 years old. it’s just a weird.

I saw an old Norn yesterday, complete with long white hair and facial hair. It was the first time I ever noticed wrinkles on a Guild Wars face before. Looked really good, i was impressed.

However, it made me wonder about how he’s just NOW starting to get experience and learn skills at such an advanced age. What was he doing with his life up until now?

perhaps he was a person that until now cared more about hunting and not saving the world.
or perhaps he was a singledad or Stay-at-home-dad that cared for farm and children while his spouse was on an adventure, like that Norn in Taigan Groves and now the kids are old enough to take care of themself, so daddie can focus on his own legend again.

Why are character names restricted to 19?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

I think the max limit if character is so people won’t abuse it by making ridiculously long names. One of the reason is probably a design choice.
I’m sure there would be idiots that tried making a name of like 45 A’s or something, which would be annoying for other players since it would be long enough to break through the borders of the target displays, the guild member list and/or would make the chat difficult to follow because you’ve gotta scroll so far to right to see what everyone wrote.

Tyrian Views on the Afterlife?

in Lore

Oreithyia.3064

While we don’t know for sure if and if than how they imagine an afterlife, the Charr still remember their dead like how they erect statues for strong fallen leaders.
As a war-centered society, death by violence is for sure an important part of their life and so I’m sure they have some kind of rites to remember their dead comrades even if they are not especially religious.

[Suggestion] Human Male Hairstyles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

I’ve been thinking for a while to change the hair for ma human guardian but still did’t do it, because the human male styles in the hair-make-over-kits weren’t very awesome.
I picked the shoulder-long hair in character creation, but it clips with like almost all armor…but having a shorthaired male character is kind of sad.
A man that can look after their appearance and can take care for his hair to be long and healthy is probably a not completely uncapable person.
a clean bunned hairstyle would be soo awesome.
And topknots are also cool for people that want a more Canthan look.

come on Anet, make it happen.

Norn bias against bunker builds

in Lore

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

Are the Norn not living in pretty cold weather?
perhaps there are no tortoises in the cold climate of Shiverpeaks because they’re poikilotherm and that’s why, eventhough they probably acknowledge that there must be a tortoise Spirit, it is probably pretty unpopular.
I’m pretty sure that the norn believe (and the fact that the Havrouns actually gain something by serving the spirits makes it very probably that it is true) that all animals have a spirits, even hares or ants, so it is very likely, that when they encounter new species in the more southern regions they assume there must be a spirit for them too.

they’ve got whales in Frostgorge Sound though…perhaps the Spirit of the whale would be a good candidate for bunker builds.
the bear is probably the closest to it from the main big spirits…but she favors more a “chose your fights wisely”-strategy in my opinion.

Do you like the female norn's bodyscale?

in Lore

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

Well using real world biology all this means is that Norns aren’t monogamous, while Jotun, Kodan and Ogres are all highly monogamous (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monogamy_in_animals#Sexual_dimorphism). I guess it sorta fits, Norn men probably need to bash each other over the head rather frequently to impress the ladies.

I don’t think we can use real world biology like thisand even then there are example of similiar bodytyes that aren’t monogamous . male and female chimpanzees and Bonobos for example, look relatively alike in their body type even though the females are less heavy , that would mean they’re monogamous, which they aren’t …especially not bonobos.
the same with wild dogs, wolves, bears and a lot of other carnivorous species…the males are bigger but the body type doesn’t change to such an extreme…they’re still not Monogamous.

Also: it’s not like in real world human or primate sons have no similarity with their mothers, after reaching puberty. the Male Norn children are similiar lanky and have a relatively high waist and long extremities, like their moms, but with becoming an adult men the waist drops down to their knees and they get these stumpy little legs. :I
I’d actually like a more muscular, less human-looking model for norn children NPCs too. there’s concept art with chubby norn children, it’s kind of sad it didn’t make it in the game.

well we shouldn’t forget that Norn females courting is probably not much different from male courting, since their seem to have a relatively gender equal society, if you rule out the Sons of Svanir.
I can totally two or more norn girls getting in a brawl because of a lengendary norn guy and the winner takes the price. XD

Lion's Arc Lament [song]

I took some of the melody of “Lion’s Arc Lament” and made a songtext for it.
I still haven’t finished the recording (I’ll add it when it’s finished) and for now I’d like to keep my crappy doodled music sheet for myself…but this is the text:

Bright the Sun and high is the tide
Lion’s Arc the Trader’s pride

port of all free nations
pearl among the cities
through waves of agitations
you still sail in peace

port of all free nations
pearl among the cities
be diligent and patient
never bend you knees

and when the storms rumble
and when the walls crumble
you will raise again
anew and free
and

Bright the sun and high is the tide
Lion’s Arc the trader’s pride
you may shine
anew and free again

Do you like the female norn's bodyscale?

in Lore

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

I don’t know…I’d love it, if the male and female Norn looked more like belonging to the same race.
We’ve got 2 races that say that they’re in someway related to the Norn, the Jotun and the Kodan.
Kodan males and female are very similiar in bodytype and have a society that is pretty equal, similiar to the Norn. with the Jotun, as far as I know, we didn’t get to meet them yet, so we of course don’t know if they look like blue barbies with a giant balcony, but since their “relatives”, the ogres have also very similiar bodytypes in females and males (but different form of horns, like the charr), I assume that Jotun woman probably are also pretty bulky like the men in their society.
That’s why i think it would fit the Norn concept if it would be possible for the females to look more like their male counterparts.
But we shouldn’t forget a lot of people play norn women, because they look more like normal earth-humans than the in-game anime-ized human girls.
the cute Norngirls clearly have their right to exist.

having one or 2 body-version that are similiar bulky to the males in the female scale would fit the characters in my opinion.
I’m talking about similiar bulky, not fat. Norn are a society of hunters, they have homes, but they’re by far not as rooted to one specifc place as the relatively farm- and city-oriented society of humans… they’ve got to work for their food and they need to have a certain amount of agilty to do so, so i think the chance of a hunter getting fat is pretty slim (* badummtss *).
Even if it is just in the total-makeover-kit, I’d love to have that possibility. But you’d probably fit the female armor for such a bodytype, which would mean some extra work.

[Suggestion] Human Male Hairstyles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

there are tons of “messy” hairstyles and the long hair clips terrible with a lot of armor and outfits.
I’d love to have clean buns for male characters (norn and human alike), to show off long hair without making it impractical for fighting and reduce the clipping issues.
A simple cinnamon, LWB, Nautilus or celtic bun looks clean and nice and can be worn either with a stick, fork (there are manly and unisex hairsticks, for example the one made of antler or bone) or just by hidden pins.
come on, Anet! do me a favor and give me long hair without the clipping issue! buzz cut just isn’t that fantasy like.

i totally agree that there are certain types of buns that men can pull off, like this guy. unfortunately, long hair will probably always clip. it’d be really hard for them to fix that considering it would clip differently with different armors. that’s why putting on certain headgear like the witch hat just makes your character totally bald (which looks stupid but whatever). hell, there are some helmets that completely shave the beard off of my norn. what’s up with that?

also a little off-topic, but this pic also reminded me that i wish you could actually wear certain pieces of jewelry, like earrings. considering a lot of players hide their helmets, i don’t think it would cause too many clipping problems.

but that’s a topic for another thread. more human male hairstyles please! good ones!

I’d call that hairstyle a bit messy… I’d like a more smooth hairstyle without single strands or breads/dreads hanging out. I like dreads and i like open hair, but a clean and practical longhair hairstyle for men would be nice.
like this for example (btw the hair in this bun goes down to the feet, so it probably that a bun with shorter hair (perhaps to the hips?) would be much smaller).
a bun also gives the possibility to have the character longhaired, while keeping the hair compact, contained and “short” and so minimise clipping, since such a bun is pretty flat and can easily be contained under a helmet.
(and guys, that keep their hair healthy and out of the way during work instead of a letting it get all tangled, are awesome. )
