For those who don’t know this trait, it’s Wilderness Survival IX trait that gives you camouflage for 3s when you get CC’d, meaning the stealth goes off as soon as you move.
The problem is : the vast majority of CCs actually make you move. I’ve tested it yesterday and as soon as your position moves just a little bit, you get out of stealth instantly.
So basically :
- The stealth breaks instantly on : knockback, pull, launch, fear, float and sink.
- You enjoy the benefit of stealth on stun, daze and knockdown.
Considering the fact that for you to remain in stealth, you also have to not move, it does not help you that much as most of the sources of those 3 CC come from close combat (exception : mesmers), where people can just continue to cleave you stealthed.
Shouldn’t that trait get some attention ? It seems vastly underpowered compared to “Shared Anguish” that is only Adept.
My proposition would be to either :
1. Give you actual stealth and not “camouflage”, allowing to move.
2. Or at least making “camouflage” not disappear when you are not moving voluntarily, so for example remain in stealth while you are launched or feared away.

Signed. This build is ridiculous, boring, unfun and broken. WAY too effective for such a low skill cap.
Also you have to be pretty kittened to lose with a turret engy against a power ranger. It’s like people don’t know maps offer LoS.
(edited by Ouroboros.5076)
Thumper turret is around 12k HP base. With the -33% damage reduction, that goes up to about 18k. All that with 5% health regen every 3 seconds, immunity to condis and crits.
Dude that kitten is a better tank than bunker guards. And I’m barely trolling.
I will sub this. Ok for longer queue times for better matches, but :
1/ Stuck in Hotm where there is nothing to do.
2/ Can’t even leave your seat due to the confirmation mechanism.
Smart dudes here saying “just kill the turrets”. Some turrets have 30k HP, heal, and can’t be crit, pushback when they die. Some classes just can’t kill those turrets, and while the engy hides in it, can’t kill him either.
I don’t say it’s OP, the problem is that the counter to engy turrets is pure teamplay : you just need to leave the point. I don’t think that it’s healthy for the game to have such a heavy influence on a match in the hands on a -let’s face it- completely kittened build.

Let us all celebrate how funny it is to play tower defense in GW2 yay !
New bonfire with Survival VII is bigger than the cap points on Niflhel. It’s pretty insane tbh.
Tested it yesterday, the new torch is good. Stay on point and you’ll perma burn the opponent, you just melt down anything celestial with that.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNAT8fjEq0vavKOrQ0aABhaVA0+FS2Ww9RsEFRJXqC-TJhAwA62fYcZAAXEgNPBAA
- Rune of the Flame Legion are great as the synergy with the build is strong. On point (other than Foefire mid) you can almost 100% burn the opponents and enjoy that sweet +7% damage.
- Sigils of Smoldering are important as they are big damage boosts. Flat 650 dmg on the spirit proc and on torch#4, and helps keeping up that +7% damage from the runes.
- Overall utility of the Longbow : strong pushback, stealth, AoE pressure, pressure from a distance, stealth users tracking.
Problems :
- Mobility
- Low Toughness, so active defense is crucial against zerkers. If you can resist the first 10s with 50%+ HP, you will burn them down (especially low HP zerkers like thieves, guard or eles). This is the reason I prefer the signet of stone, but the instant condi clear + stun break from the signet of renewal is also great.
- No stability or stun breaks. Hambows can be a problem. Fully traited turret engies too.
(edited by Ouroboros.5076)
I’ve tested the torch with the Survival VII trait and and the sigil of smoldering and it’s already pretty good. With new AoE we’ll probably be able to cover the entire point with it, and believe me that’s a lot of damage AoE. And torch #4 is a pretty underrated skill that does 10k damage in 10s if the opponent can’t clean it. It rekts thieves and mesmers for example.
I’ve always wanted to play some sort of hybrid spirit ranger, being able to put a reasonable pressure on the opponent while supporting the team and sustain a bit.
With the foreseen buff on torch, especially it’s area-denial part, it might become strong. What would you think of that hybrid LB/S+T spirit ranger ?
No, I don’t want to be forced to play a class I don’t want or go PvE to do a daily.
I’ll be honest I just troll a hotjoin and switch teams to get my class specific daily. Not sure that’s good for the game.
Entangle is insane against some classes if they burned their CD, pretty average against others. Looks pretty balanced to me.
What I like is the -20% CD and the free Fury / condition removal synergy it has when properly traited.
It doesn’t make sense at all. Why do I have to requeue again ?
It happend to me three times in a row there, queued in ranked for more than two minutes, got a pop, someone forgot to accept, and got kicked from the queue. I’ve just wasted 10 minutes IG just trying to get in a match.
Justin pls.
Wait 5+ minutes, see Match Ready invitation prompt, I hit OK, and then get completely kicked from the queue without staying at the front of the line.
Confirmed, it happens to me all the time atm in unranked EU solo. I queue, wait 3 minutes for a match to spawn, click ready when it pops, and then get kicked because someone else did not ready up ?!
We removed seeing other player’s rank to prevent harassment and the shaming of new players.
We don’t show MMR for the same reason.
Just posting here quickly to ask to reconsider your decision.
Harassment is there and is going on no matter what. 80% of my losses as a solo queuer, people throw in “team of noobs”, “go uninstall” to the team. People don’t need the display of ranks to do that.
Not being able to see who you are playing against is a MAJOR demotivational for mid level players who try to improve. You win three games in a row and you feel powerful, not getting the fact that you were matched against low rank people. The next two games you play against a top500+ team or 3+ soloQ top200+ players, you get stomped and feel miserable. This leads to utter disappointment, boredom and sometimes to people stopping the game (we have already lost 2 players in 3 months because of this, not kidding).
If you could see that coming, you could have started the game by telling you : “OK, this game is gonna get rough, gonna do my best”. The mindset is different and I can accept the loss more easily and try to improve.
See how many posts you have to reply to on this forum because people did not catch they were occasionnally matched against good players (for whatever reason).
Please, for the love of Dwayna, rethink this.
ITT : Rose glasses everywhere. People keep forgetting the many limitations GW1 had (slow/bad movement, lame Z-axis, no crafting, empty zones, desert cities, instances everywhere …) that frustrated many people on that game too.
GW2 trumps GW1 on many aspects and is a better game overall, as shown by his success in the last 2 years. That said yes, GW1 was better on some parts (for example story and comptetitive pvp), but overall GW2 attracted much, much more player during its first two years than the previous did.
People also forget how bad the state of the MMO market is at the moment. The old MMO recipe isn’t working anymore. Wildstar was a pretty good MMO and still did not match the expected result. In those circumstances, GW2 is performing admirably.
(edited by Ouroboros.5076)
EU (Fort Ranik), we can’t queue as a team.
Queue down confirmed.
Yesterday I was the only commander on my map defending the red fort. We made 3/4 of the preparations holding max 2 forts, then when we went close to the breach lots of people began to appear and we went up to 4. During the breach we killed the 5 bosses, which only happened to me once.
So don’t lose hope, people are still playing but don’t participate to defense very actively. That said, just run one or two defense, if possible with a tag, and people will join you (the loot is too gewd).
Congrats to PvP devs.
Punish solo players, and reward team players.
If we weren’t in 2014, people would embrace that reality and try to find mates to join their effort, make teams, and learn how to win.
In 2014, people just flame devs for “lame design”.
#allisvain.
Wouldn’t more info actually stop people to report fake problems like “I’ve only faced premades as a solo queuer !” ?
I mean, show us the premade groups, show us the MMR/ranks/leaderboard IN GAME when starting the match. This would drastically lower the false reports that we have here, and avoid you take wrong decisions based on that.
We have the right to see who we are facing. There is nothing secret in this info. By constantly hiding this info you are yourself provoking those reactions. I mean I play Hearthstone and Starcraft a bit on the side, and why I play ranked there I see what rank my opponent has !
My guess is : there is no work on a GW2 expansion in the background. LW + feature packs is all we will get as updates.
But, all those quiet people in the backgroud are working on GW3/another game, which will take 5+ years to develop (as GW2 did). They waited 1-2 years after the launch of GW1 before launching the development of GW2. This time they decided to begin immediately considering the time it will take for GW3/next game to be ready.
So I expect nothing more than LW + Feature packs for GW2, and a GW3 reveal in like 2016 or something.
I understand the point now. Indeed, you cannot hop from one hotjoin to another with a single button anymore, you either have to use the browser or get back to the Heart of the Mists, which is indeed one more loading screen.
See screenshot: You mean this?
Nope, I can’t press that button.
Of course you can’t you’re already in a match ?! The UI even tells it.
If you were in the Heart of the Mists, the “Custom Arena” button would be the equivalent of the old “Play now” button.
We’ve played some matches in a 5-man premade in ranked yesterday. Won 100%. There is a high chance we were not put against full premade all the time, but we might have faced like 221, 32 or 311 teams.
1. The Courtyard.
We think it’s great and refreshing. We agree that there is amost no strategy on this map, but tactics, positioning and teamplay is insanely rewarding and it feels great. Running voice comm changes the game completely as you can time spikes, water fields + blast combos, keep an eye on who is focused, organize retreats or repositionning moves, etc.
People thinking that this is just a ‘get into the middle and lay down AoE’ map are completely wrong and will be destroyed by organized team.
2. Matching rosters
But just because of courtyard, we think the penalty score should be really high to avoid putting different size groups together. 3+ premades have an insane advantage against full solo queuers on this map and this leads to unfair matches.
Imo :
- 11111 (soloQ) should at all cost avoid facing a 3+ premade. 2111 or 221 is okay I think.
- 5 should not be put against something else than 5 and 41 (acceptable).
This leads me to believe that the penalty cost for having a difference of size of 2 between the biggest roster in each team should be REALLY high. Such a match should not be organized by the system unless you’re waiting for like 5+ minutes of queue.
AND I would suggest informing the players after those 5+ minutes that they might be put in such a match. It could allow them to reset the queue if they want it, and wait longer.
Keep it please. Playing it as a team is fantastic.
Team fights are finally meaningful. Heck, even playing a healer guard is good here.
Love it. Finally something refreshing in PvP. Moar pls.
Stop the elitism / esport crap, it kills the game for the other 99% players.
We just played it with our team and had a blast.
It actually rewards team fights and make combo fields and healers relevant.
I love it.

RIP “leaderboard”. Welcome leaderboard !

Comparing 1 country to a whole region is flawed
FYI : Even if you take the broadest definition of Europe possible -740M- (including a part of Russia and Turkey for example) and if you add Canada -36M- and USA -315M- “NA”, there are still more people in that single country -1.357B- that in the two regions combined.
EU SoloQ Zerk ranger player here (ranked ~300 atm, 100 max), I just wanted to add some info.
Celestial D/D elementalists win against any ranger build btw. They faceroll the zerk LB to the point I just try to run from them at all cost. The same mostly applies for Hambows.
Builds that are hard countered by the top all-around builds of the moment are hardly OP, imo.
(edited by Ouroboros.5076)
Evan mentioned they will have more statistics when the ‘rewrite’ will go live. I hope they will be able to produce similar reports in the future, it would be interesting.
Engies still have counters, so it’s not as bad as people say. Still, Healing Turret has a broken CD considering the heal it provides.
Supply Crate is an extremely powerful elite that is true, and it’s even more so in an environment where you have to defend points. That said, I think it’s fine, no major nerf required (maybe a slight CD increase, or HP reduction on turrets ?)
I preferred Raid on the Capricorn and it was removed!
I loved the map… very few people knew how to work the canon, so they’d leave me alone as I repeatedly blasted them.
And it’s funny because there are now completely useless cannon “tutorials” (or least, exercices) in the Heart of the Mists (next to the trebs). You should have removed them too when you disabled the water tutorial, to avoid “confusing players” !
P.S. take it slightly please, it’s just a little joke I, too, miss nuking people with the cannon
Did you get banned or infracted or what ?
Rip. with this server i will have permanent dishonored.
And I’m glad you do as I do not want to play with someone that DC’s twice a match, for whatever reason.
I must admit being pretty confused also. English is my 3rd language so I may have misunderstood the message, but weren’t you teasing “something” happening this week ?
I got pretty sad yesterday with the patch notes
Nah, I would prefer 10^18 Zimbabwean dollar tournaments
Zimbabwean dollar would also fit the state of pvp in GW2
Omagad laughing so hard :’D
We’ve had that once. I believe it happens when the server/map crashes.
Video Games in the 90s : children under 14y can’t get past the first level of most games.
Video Games in 201x : video game companies have to teach players to use the appropriate button at the appropriate time.
I wonder if in 203x, video game companies will have to teach players how to use a mouse.
Active combat ? No.
Strictly in WvW, I think stealth is a problem since launch. That mechanic is overpowered being a “get out of jail” free card with no counter at all. That would be okay if it was under long CD, like a Warrior stance, but stealth can be acquired from multiple sources and so can be spammed … which becomes a problem.
The worst experience I’ve had as a beginner in wvw was when I tried to solo a bit as a Mesmer for the first times and encountered a very good roaming thief. He ganked me multiple times, which was pretty fine as I was just a scrub and he outplayed me. I took it on me, changed some things, tried to learn. When I finally managed to dodge its almost invisible spikes, I put him on 20%. I thought I had him, then the guy popped 3 stealth on a row to remain invis for 15s and cross half the map to reset. 20s later he was back trolling me again at full health. Sour taste.
Imo :
- There should be a cooldown for stealth. Or you just apply reveal for 3-4s systematically after each stealth.
- Only very specific skills should not remove stealth. All attacks (including zones like Thieves Pistol), Teleports, summoning pets/clones, … all that should remove stealth instantly. A player should not be able to use half his skillbar 2m from you and remain invisible. It makes no sense.
For the rest, in Pvp at least, it’s much less of a problem.
1. The maps are smaller so they cannot always flee like that.
2. The matches are fast-paced. Resetting duels each minute makes no sense.
3. Under stealth, they cannot cap/contest. If you can just tank a captured point for 40s+ against a thief, you are the long term winner even if you lose the duel.
Right. The incentives patch came after, and it tripled the playerbase compared to a year before. The Dhuumfire patch itself barely did anything to the population. (If anything, it slightly increased the population by unlocking a few more easy builds.)
As I said, competitive players tend to overestimate their importance and the importance of balance to a game’s population.
Supported. Also the balance of this game isn’t bad. There are things that are strong and others that are not, but there are many viable builds and things shift nicely.
Balance is clearly not the limiting factor to PvP atm, the lack of any IG competitions and the lack of gameplay variety is. The new rewards already do a ton of good to the gametype.
I’ll just up that once, cos suggestions tend to be burried under the usual “nerf paper cos I’m rock, scissor’s fine” and “remove Skyhammer” threads.
Dude. Just the leap change is insane, I’m using sword in all game types and it just changes my life. The warden fix is also welcome after months of inactive phantasms in PvE.
GG Anet.
It would be nice to be able to remove the hits received/inflicted when downed, to be able to identify more easily what put you in downed state.
If you have for example a thief cleaving you to death, there is just to much useless info in the combat log to be able to identify quickly what was the source of your defeat.
Lots of replies of what people are running themselves, but not much of a solid answer for the “meta”.
Hopefully this will help: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Ranger_-_Spirit_Master
I have contributed to that article, sir.
