1. I got kited to hell by mesmers, eles and especially rangers with entangling roots. While this might be due to my lack of practice, I recall that I used to trait for “mobile strikes”. Wouldnt that trait be more useful than “warrior sprint” (wich got mentioned here quite often) in any case? Is there any other way of avoiding being kited?

Well you know, this build has flaws, or it would be broken. This warrior is pretty bad against ranged power builds that have many stunbreaks. That is almost the definition of a Mesmer (2 or 3 stun breakers, 2 invulnerabilities, massive ranged dps) ! So yes, Mesmers own Skullcrackers badly.

For the same reasons I think it’s normal you also lose against Engies and non-spirit Rangers. Thieves are a better matchup I think because they either need to get close with their berserker build and a single stun might be enough to kill them, or they play more ranged and use condis which is a something you can endure.

Whine or not bottom line is your in for rude awakening if you truly think this going to stay the way it is. In the end we all know mending should be the better heal regardless because hellooo cond removal.

Mending should only be the better heal if you have few or no condition removals in a meta that is not condition based.

In a condition heavy meta, you need a lot more than that. M+Sh/GS builds use two utilities (Berserker Stance, Endurance Signet) AND a Master Trait (Cleansing Ire) AND Hoelbrak Runes (-20% condition duration) specifically to handle conditions.

In a 1v1, Condi necros, Minion Necros, D/D Thieves, S/D Thieves, All types of Mesmers, Condi Engis, Spirit Rangers. That is 5 classes who have builds that can easily take down a warrior if played right. Hey maybe I should complain because those classes have beat me.

You cannot make general assertions like this. It really depends on the builds.

The famous M+Sh/GS warriors counters Necros and Spirit Rangers perfectly. You will resist the first condi spam with berserker stance, build adrenaline, pop signet of rage and then chain Skullcrack > 100b > Whirl > Full adrenaline again. They have close to no stunbreaks and bad mobility, so they will just eat your combo every 7s.
On the other hand, any ranged DPS with high mobility and a good number of evades will beat them, like Engies or Pistol thieves.

People are just whining because there is actually a Warrior build that owns the actual meta (necro spam, spirit spam, no mesmer).

I personally don’t think this is a bad thing, most games like GW2 have combat like this, most notably games like DotA and LoL. Anyways back on the topic of this particular build I feel that if you play it well and land all your Skull Cracks you’ll be able to land a full 100b no matter how skilled your foe is. I always thought of the GS as a tool and the Mace as your bread and butter. This is different from launch where most of our builds was focused around the GS. While it’s important for DPS the Mace is still more important.

There are three things that made it great during my session yesterday :
1. Skullcrack > 100bb > Whirl is really a loop. If the guys has no stunbreak, not only will he eat a full 100bb, but with whirl on top you will almost have a full adrenaline bar again. Use GS#4 for funzies, switch back to mace and do it again !
2. GS #3 and #5 give great mobility. It really helps for the support/dps roamer role this builds tries to do. With this, you can also use it as a far point contester too if they use a spirit build to defend their close, switching your role with your thief/ngy contester.
3. Resilience. 3k armour, 24.5k health, good healing, great condi removal. You take hits superbly well

This build really reminds me the role of the warrior in GW1 : great pressure on ennemies and great resistance to control and spike.

I don’t see where you would put a nerf on this ? Maybe Skullcrack can be toned down a bit, but it’s still a full burst, single target stun. They can not lower it down that much without rendering it useless, and opponents will still eat a bunch of the 100b damage.

The nerf I see coming is Berserker’s stance, but that has nothing to do with this build. That utility might be broken a bit.

This build has weaknesses too. Basically any ranged DPS class that can kite pretty well will bring it down. D/P thieves are a problem, but also shatter mesmers and engies to an extent

Progressive PvP And/OR Guild Versus Guild

Starcraft has one game mode, few maps, no rewards, and a simple ladder based matchmaking.
Counterstrike has maybe three very similar game modes (as GW2), few maps, no rewards and no matchmaking.
MOBAs have one game mode, VERY few maps, no rewards and simple ladder based matchmaking.

All those are successful esport games since years.

I could go on with more marginal game types that also have loads of international tournaments :
Soccer games : one game mode, no maps, no rewards, no matchmaking.
Fighting games : one game mode, one map, no rewards and sometimes basic ladder matchmaking.

Please guys, enough with your rocket science now. We don’t need all that crap to have a successful competitive game. We need a fun game to play, that allows good players to sit on bad players’ faces, and if possible that is enjoyable to watch. That’s it.

Both can be countered using the M+Sh/GS warrior (search "The Skullcrack 3.0 thread in the warrior forum).

Both are played the same way :
1. Use the berserker stance to survive the first condi spam
2. Build adrenaline
3. Use signet of rage
4. Loop : Skullcrack > 100b > whirl.

The loop will melt down spirits or minions, and build enough adrenaline to repeat it almost every 7.5 seconds.

Use your two signets (stab + cleanse) in case of emergency.
Run away with GS 3+5 if you need to, both can’t catch you with their low mobility.

This build is … mind blowing. It eats both spirit rangers & condi necros alive !

At one point yesterday in team arenas, we faced a full necro team on Temple. We got slaughtered using our standard comp (guard, necro, ranger, engy and me as warrior). My mates were almost all melt down by the necros and I was the only one actually doing something. Lots of rage on our side, whatever. I explain how this build eats necros alive and show my mates this thread.

Next game, we got that team again, on Khylo. Both the guard and the engy rerolls as warriors like me. One of them arrives 45 seconds late in the game. We win 500 to 175.

In our next games I used this build as a Necro and Spirit Ranger hunter and it was really mindblowing. With an insane resistance to conditions and their lack of stun breakers, I have simply not lost a single duel against those two specs, who rule the meta atm.

I really suggest you trying it ! Thank for the post !

I support the above. I don’t want to be pigeonholed into playing the same build as everyone else and am indeed running a berseker phantasms build in soloQ EU (20/20/0/30/0). The above is spot on :
- I think I’ve never killed a single spirit ranger 1-on-1, even with Moa, even against low ranks. I just flee off point if I see one coming.
- The only way to kill a necro is : A. Evade the fear spam. B. Get the Moa off. Insta lose if you miss any of this.
- Engies are tough because the AoE kills the phantasms while he has enough sustainability to survive the first bursts. That is still a better matchup than the two above though.
- S/D thieves are pretty tough too. A good S/D thief can evade telegraphed attacks, and that’s the case with phantasms. But that is fair, at least that is skill based.

Agree, especially with the spirit ranger and the necro. Both create a “build wars” effect that is pretty offensive : if you face them with other builds, you will lose unless they are really bad. It’s really an awful experience to play three different classes in the game (warrior/mesmer/ele) and to estimate your chances of survival at about 10% when you need to engage them 1-on-1.

While I agree that S/D thieves are very strong and might need to be slightly toned down, they are not as offensive as the others. They actually have bad matchups and require some skill to play (sorry necros / rangers).

Stunlock warriors aren’t OP at all at the moment but might become too strong if they nerf the AoE blind/weakness as they said in the livestream.

I don’t get why everything should give “a reward”. I had no reward when playing Team Fortress Classic/Natural Selection/Starcraft2 online and still played it for months, why should any competitive online game be “rewarded” ?

That’s also not true you have 0 reward. I made yesterday 10 dyes with things I got from tournaments chests, got 1 white, boom 8+ gold. Also, when you get to lvl 40 you get almost free 18 bag slots for all your characters, that’s 1+ gold spared per bag. Few rewards, yes. No reward, no.

I love the 30 second loading screen.

Life stealing with wells and Plague do the job kinda OK. You’re not the epic bunker a guardian can be, but you can do other things doing so.

Dev said that it’s a technical limitation of the engine. Thread closed, until they eventually change the engine or find a workaround.

There are lots of misconceptions on legendary users here that are pretty sad to see. I made Sunrise some months ago. Facts :

1. No real money spent.
2. Never dropped a single precursor.
3. No repetitive & stupid gold farming. I couldn’t farm shelt/pen with my mesmer anyway. I have never done CoF twice in a row. I stopped farming Air elementals after 3 hours and no lodestone drop. Never “farmed” T6 mats.
4. “Reasonable” game time (less than 1k hours of play).
5. It was a personal achievement more than anything else. Part of the idea was filling the login screen, get some achievement points and maintain the long term goal. I chose Sunrise specifically because it’s “Aurore” in french which is the name of my daughter. She’s 2 year-old and she now comes sometimes to me saying “voir épée aurore ?” (translation : “see sword sunrise ?”) and that’s adorable
6. Aside from trying to get the precursor from the Forge (which is more painful than it should that is true), I enjoyed the whole adventure to get it (yes, even the clover gamble). Exploration, Dungeons, WvW, Events, Crafting … It was fun !

People should stop seeing in Legendaries an awful grind and in legendary users nolife gamers who grinds until they die . Heck, I played GW1 for 3k+ hours and never bought an Obsidian armour especially because it was too much of a grind.

I’m just a normal gamer who enjoys almost all part of the game and managed to get a good portion of what was needed just by playing the game the way I want (aside from the precursor).

not “more or less”, it does suck everywhere else. You can take it in a phantasm build for even more cheese fest phantasm builds already are but other than that it has no use worth mentioning.

Nope. It’s pretty handy in dungeon runs to skip mobs or lose aggro for example.
I agree that it’s not the utility that you would keep 100% of the time in your bar like thives do with SR, but it’s definitely not a useless skill outside WvW.

I mean our class mechanics are Shattering and Phantasms…yet we get ZERO from an Elite for them.

This, yes (but don’t replace MI & TW, I like them when I group). Would be useful for solo PvE play where most of our elites are meh. Moa is useless in PvE, and TW & MI are group oriented.

This invalidates your entire post. Until you come with a video proving it, I would consider your entire post based on lies. I heard about Strife’s 30 minutes video, but that’s one run and still 2 hours for 4 runs.

I’m still holding out hope that the decision was made to do this all at the same time, when the reward structure changed, and that we’ll see something good.

I’m really beginning to think that’s the case. My own opinion : they stopped the dungeon revamp because they understood that it’s not going to be useful as long as they haven’t fixed the entire loot structure in the game. Colin recently said they recognize there is a problem with the loot system in GW2 making harder content pointless (he told this based on the Orr meta-events revamp).

I think it touches two core problems of the game :
1. Many supposedly rare drops are worth nothing at all. Example : many named exotic weapons aren’t worth more than 1.5G even if I’ve only dropped 5 or 6 in 1k+ hours.
2. There is almost no incentive in the game to do hard content as it isn’t rewarded properly. Example : CoF1 is 6 gold per hour, you can loot a precursor on a WvW Dolyak, champion drops are crap but they take 10x more time to kill than regular mobs, 90% of the end-game items can be earned by grinding faceroll content (ascended equipment for example).

I think they really have a problem there because all-in-all that’s a very complex situation to solve.

Something that will get people to stop saying GW2 has no end game, which honestly is pretty true once you finish up DM title/FotM to a reasonable level.

I hate “endgame” discussions because “endgame” means nothing at all really. Everyone has its own opinion on this and using general terms like that do not bring any fruitful discussions.

Now if by this you mean that aside from the DM title and 35+ fractals there is nothing else to aim for in PvE at the moment, I agree (but you should add getting a legendary for the medal and the achievement).

I now have all 3 (legendary+DM+Fractals 36 done), and now I really get the feeling that I’ve finished the game – PvE side. It doesn’t make the game bad I’d say, that’s 1k+ hours for 60€ and I had a ton of fun, but that’s it. Game beaten :P

The game has been out for 10 months. I’d be generous in saying that you guys have produces 1/16th of what you produced prior to launch in those 10 months. That’s only about a 33% rate of productivity post launch vs. pre-launch. Once again, I think that’s generous.

There are actually only 3 paths in the game that you can complete in like 6-8 minutes and that’s AC p1, CoF p1 and SE p1 (not including CoF p2 gateskipping, but I don’t know if that’s gotten patched or not).

All of the other ones, except for Arah p1 (~20-25mins) and Arah p4 (30-45mins) take about the same amount of time (10-15mins) with a good group. It’s just that PUGs are terrible and don’t know how to run dungeons fast and efficiently.

There are perfectly valid points in your post so mine isn’t about destroying everything you said at all.

But you shouldn’t use speed runs as the base reference of the time needed to complete a dungeon. Strife’s speed run of Arah p4 is a 42 minutes video with a full optimized guild group with guys that probably have run it 10+ times and have hundreds of hours of experience in dungeons. Using that as a base reference for how long this dungeon takes is almost as relevant as using Usain Bolt’s performances to compare with your own. I was invited by a full guild group to do Arah p4, with vocal comm, and we took 1h40 to do it. My own guild mates took 3 hours.

There are other paths in some dungeons that take much more time that 15 minutes, for example SE2 (even Strife’s group took 24 minutes, average groups will probably need kitten minutes), or paths 2-3 of HotW (probably 30 minutes with a normal group).

For the rest I agree with you. We recently ran a dungeon even in my guild and did CoE p1 (25 minutes), CoF p1 (9 minutes), SE p1 (11 minutes) and HotW p1 (18 minutes) in ~ 70 minutes (not optimized group but decent builds & players). That was fun, not all dungeons should take 1h+ like Arah and Fractals . Too bad that, aside from Fractals, you aren’t rewarded for doing the more complicated/long ones.

Good god yes. Pinatas are somewhat ok as you can hit 4-5 of them each time you go to LA and get rid of that achievement in one month without actually grinding them.

I agree with the side claiming that they still stick to their manifesto for a big part. Any post with “there’s grind in GW2, look the legendary, so the manifesto is BS” is unfortunately another example of someone that can not read between the lines. They of course meant ‘no grind to get to the fun stuff’ (which they said clearly btw), and that is correct. The leveling part is a blast which is really something rare in MMOs.

But there is one critic on which I fully agree : they didn’t deliver on competitive PvP, until now at least. Late tools implementation, no competition support (news, interviews, tournaments, cash prizes), excessive separation between that part of the game and the rest … Clearly their biggest fail and their only true lie in the manifesto.

For the PvE, people expect too much I’d say. Since the start there is (was, counting the temporary content) in my opinion more than 1k hour worth of content to do. That is more than enough for a 60$ game, and probably 3 times more than what you had in GW1 before Factions (talking pure PvE here). It is completely normal that people that went way over that threashold are getting bored of the game now, and that is not a “let down” by the developers. Only an expansion could just push that threshold further away.

Yup, people forget the Guild Missions who are also a big amount of permanent content.

That said, it is not accessible to everybody, so in my opinion it is time to prepare a new fractal update : permanent end-game content that can be replayed for a while and always offer challenge and reward. I’m still running them !

On the other side, I loved the festival-like temporary content (Halloween/Wintersday/SAB) so I hope they won’t stop this either.

We’ve experienced a weird bug yesterday while doing a Fractal lvl 30. Occasionnally, when someone went down and we tried to rez him (with the F button, not a skill), we weren’t actually healing him. His healing bar was stuck and wasn’t going up (but wasn’t going down either). It happened to me and to two other people on different fractals, so I’m not sure it’s Fractals related. To be precise, it did not happen all the time, no agony was on the impacted players.

I managed to get up by killing a mob, and another guy used the rez banner with success.

Did anyone else experienced this bug already ?

Farmers got owned.

I have my legendary (Sunrise), I’ve not farmed any spots with the exception of maybe Potent Venom Sacs in Mount Maelstrom for about 10 hours and some Plinx (never did the camps in Orr as with a Mesmer it was impossible for me to tag anything). Invalid argument spotted. I’ve not ran CoF p1 more than once a day. I’ve never exploited Arah Path 3 (?) Boss 1. I’ve never looted any precursor.

Casuals should stop waste time complaining and start playing instead.

Each month I pick up the new wallpaper and put them on my computer at work, and each month people just step by and ask me where they come from. Those people aren’t gamers by a long shot, but they do appreciate the artworks nonetheless. It says it all, really.

So major props to you, Anet artists still are the best crew on the market atm, imo.

All in all the dredge fractal is challenging and that is actually a good thing. And I do find it interesting with the different mechanics AND the loot.

The problem is more : it’s too long. It can be compared to a typical dungeon run (not talking about CoF 1 obv), but in fractals you have to play 4 of them in a row. So imo the design is fine, they should just make each part less tedious. Lower the amount of dredges in the cage, lower the amount of bombs/dredges in the next event, lower the amount of dredges and the champ HP in the room, remove the trash to last boss…

I think the perfect fractals are ascalon, frost, water and lava (even if the boss is a bit OTT). 3 separate events not too long, not separated by long runs, to the end boss. The others can be perfected :
- colossus has too much running and is very bugged
- swamp is too short (one event really ?)
- dredge, the intermediate events are too long
- asura is also unnecessary long, the 4 boss event is too long and boring, the running between the events take a ton of time with all those harpies

3k hours of GW1 here.

1. But the personal story is bullkitten.

The story of Prophecies wasn’t that great (they even added the last quests months after launch lol), it only began to be cool with Factions … 1 year later.

2. The world is big and you feel alone.

GW1 was worse on all levels.

3. You got the dungeons, but you instead of making it a cool place were your fightning-skills counts.. it is a place of “trick and treat”.

GW1 had 2 dungeons at launch, got a third 7 months later. The first two dungeons were farmed solo by “tricks and treat” builds.

4. You got the WwW

GW1 had no WvW…

5. sPvp: somewhat fun, then you meet thief or mesmer and your dead.

These are not the top classes atm, so what’s the point ?

6. The guilds are too loose and the idea that you can be in many guilds and dedicated to none is insane. The worst idea EVER! No dedication and no teambuilding, and no GVG!?!?! Jeez.. Were is the capes??^^

7. The ubermonsters.. the “Dragons”.. are booooooring! Stand in a crowd and fire your skills, one dodge a minute, then more dmg then get loot. Then go back to what you really were doing.. LOL!!!!?!?? It is sad really..

Yes. But again, no Übermonsters at all on launch for GW1, and we can not say they were many at all or interesting to fight.

TL;DR : GW1 was worst on launch. On so many levels than a lifetime wouldn’t be enough to cite them all.

This is exactly the same in French, I don’t remember the spelling used for the two syllabs but it was extremely close to “Or-di” which is the beginning of “ordinateur”, the french word for computer.

When I read it I immediately thought the same thing as our spanish-speaking colleague.

Simple question : I have been told that if, during a week, you do a T1 guild bounty, it’s useless to do a T2 afterwards as you won’t have the 5 additional guild merits, and you have to wait the next week for it to reset. Is that true ?

The beautiful landscapes
The sense of exploration
The feeling of deep history when you explore the ruins of the old world
The humor (though more of it now)
The races we only got to see bits and pieces of
The distinct feeling of different lands
The no grind philosophy
The holiday events
The limited skill bar (though it’s alot easier to change now – traits are kind of where skills used to be)
Some other stuff I’m not thinking of at the minute.

GW2 really took most of the things I wished were different in GW1 and fixed them. Loved that game, love this one more.

Tested the second build (the cheap one with boon duration) and it’s A TON of fun. Fantastic build, thanks a lot.

I adapted it slightly to my tastes by going 10/15/20/10/15.
Why :
- 15 in Arms for +10% crit chance on burst, it allows other consumables (sharpening stone) and a slight precision decrease while still having 100% crit chance on burst.
- 20 in defense for massive hammer spikes and passive regen with adrenaline.
I found these more useful than adre on hit and immo break on bull charge only.

Also, I play Death From above as my trait in Strength as it is so, so, so much fun in WvW

What Kind of Mesmer Are You & Why?

The fundamentals of my Mesmer is burst & projectile reflection.

I’m using Sword/Focus & GS with 0/20/0/20/30 as traits. Mostly Valkyrie gear with Air Runes (useful for WvW).

What I like in this build is that it allows to switch my Major Traits depending on the content I do.
Open-world PvE : Phantasms & damage : 0/20(IV, II)/0/20(IV, VIII)/30(III, X, XI)
Dungeon : Support & shatter : 0/20(IV, X)/0/20(IV, VIII)/30(I, X, XI)
WvW : Glamour confusion bomb & support : 0/20(IV, X)/0/20(II, VIII)/30(V, VIII, IX)

Wooden chests problems ... again ?

It happened to me at least twice the last days in WvW : a wooden chest appear after killing something (can’t really remember if that was a player or a mob), and when I press “F” to loot it I only get some cash, not even one silver (something like 87 copper).

Has it happened to anybody else ? Is there again a problem with those chests ?

I’d say that most of the influence boosts aren’t worth it, unless you have a huge guild that grinds 3k influence a day … Except those guilds don’t need boosts at all.

I’d like the guild content guys to have a look at those boosts, for them to actually help the small/medium guilds to grind their influence.

One note maybe : stop skipping mobs in fractals, especially if you’re looking for gold/loot and not that much for a 46th ring or relics. Especially mobs at lvl20+ drop quite a bunch of rares and exos, that are NOT soulbound.

I’m thinking about mobs in the jade fractal, wolves and svanirs’ sons after the elementals, etc. Wolves for examples have already given me 2 named exotics : Skybringer and some staff-of-ember, and one mob in the jade fractal just gave me a named pistol.

TL;DR : Quite a bit of money in fractals is made on normal mobs that too many groups skip to get the chests. I would advise stop skipping mobs that are worth the time.

They aren’t working fine because nothing in the pve daily gives you wvw rewards.

Im specifically badges and siege, something people use in WvW.

What a drama.

1. The chests of these events actually do give better rewards now. People will get back doing them because they have a decent chance of having something now. So looting those chests once now is better that looting them many times before. So if you’re only interested in the rewards of such events, you should be happy because it’s actually easier than before.

2. There’s at least 10 events like that (5 temples & 5 world bosses). Is that so problematic not being able to loot them twice the same day ? They all take at least 30 minutes from start to finish to complete (pre-events included). You’re looking at at least 5 hours of continuous gameplay. So if you’re looking at being rewarded by actually playing the entire game instead of farming the same 2 events, you should be happy.

3. And in the end, you can still do them two or three times per day if you enjoy them. You’ll still get normal loot, karma, XP and gold. So the argument of “I want to be able to do it just because I enjoy it” falls short by quite a bit.

Conclusion : it promotes players who do it for fun and want to be rewarded for actuallly completing a big event, and punish grinders/farmers who park alts to tag the boss with two attacks and get the rewards 4 times a day. I’m fine with that.

Just a small topic to thank you for those upgraded chests for the big events. It finally makes them worth the effort of completing those big events. I appreciate the fact being able to get rewarded for finishing those end game events, and if it comes to the cost of a limit of “once per day” to balance the economy and prevent farming, I’m perfectly fine with that. We still have 5 temples & 5 world bosses to do per day !

So for this, thanks Anet, it goes in the right direction !

FYI :
1x Dwayna temple = 8 items, in there 1 Charged Core & 1 Rare item
1x Lyssa temple = 7 items with 2 Rares

I’ve seen people link at least 1 named exotic each time and we weren’t more than 50 each time.
