Refunds for people who play since pre-order?

Yes that shocks me too. People but a game, play it for hours, they don’t like it and then they consider themselves as having a right to a refund for reasons as dumb as “QQ, Gear Trendmill” ?!

Incoming end of the video games industry if that’s considered as normal. Why would anyone buy a game then, if you can just play it for 30 hours and get a full refund because “you don’t like it”.

The Worst thing that has happened to GW2

Of course the whiners here are the worst thing of the game right now. It was the same for GW1 tbh, little by little we got rid of most of the haters and whiners who found another target to dump their bile on.

Take a step back from these guys and see how funny they are talking about things they don’t even understand, like “RNG” or “Gear Trendmill”. Look at them complaining about “RNG is the worst design eva!”, and laugh loudly as you know that RNG in RPG is there since the paper RPG of the 80s. Or when they ask a refund because after 200 hours of play they don’t want to anymore.

Welcome in 2012.

Yes, I would say do the temple event chains, and the arah gates. Many mobs and even chests at the end. Got a named exotic once in one of them, I think it’s worth it.

It’s fun. I come to these forums once in a while because of the useless complaints of haters, and even then I can still recognize the same ten people who jump on every single post to deliver their bile : Raging Bull, LordByron, etc. They have been hating on these forums for months now.

So my question for you : are you paid for this ? Because I can’t see anyone coming every day on the official forum of a game he doesn’t like to troll every single post with useless feedback for 3 MONTHS ?!

Why can't I get myself to play?

One more point for this post : this is why we get complaints from certain people that the game lacks content when in fact the amount of things to do in GW2 is absolutely insane. These people do only consider the content when it exists on their path to their main objective. Everything that is outside of that is non-existent.

There’s nothing wrong with that mindset I’d say (there’s something wrong saying that there’s not enough content in GW2 by the way), I guess it’s just that this game is not made for them.

In my opinion, there is SO MUCH to do in this game that there is a part of the population who doesn’t know what to do when they reach their end game. These people like to have one very clear goal : “get to max lvl to get access to the last maps and try to get the best gear”.

GW2 has opted for another approach where max lvl is not really an achievement by any means, and the best gear (in terms of stat) isn’t that hard to get. Instead of one main objective GW2 offers many different objectives which are not a huge accomplishment like the feeling “I made it to the end game and beat it” you get in other MMOs. You can try to kill Zaitan (which is only the end of the personal story), get 100% map completion (which is only the end of the map exploration), get glory in PvP (which has no real goal other than to improve your skills), help your server in WvW (endless battle), do all the jumping puzzles (that’s only the end of a specific game feature), grind some achievements (like kills, exploration or dungeons) …

There is much to do, but no “main” objective to achieve. I can understand that there are many people who dislike this and get lost when their usual main objective (get to max lvl and max gear) isn’t that rewarding in this game.

Out of 10, what would you rate this year's GW2 Halloween Event?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ouroboros.5076

Ouroboros.5076

Would give it a 9/10. I enjoyed this event A LOT, especially when I compare them to GW1 events. Not that I disliked the events in GW1 but they were much smaller and less exciting. What I disliked :
- The party problems at the start of the MK dungeon – really problematic
- The pumpkin carving stuff. I also used the overflow trick to reset the pumpkins in LA, which is probably not what was intended. It was annoying because you had to do it to have 100% for the event, it was boring as such and close to impossible to do while doing “regular” PvE (150 pumpkins !).
- The unclear guidelines for the mini games. A tutorial would be a nice-to-have.

The clocktower was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC, all the events everywhere a nice distraction, the minigames were fun, the mini-dungeon a nice way to grind some money, the halloween recipes a nice touch for hardcore players to get high-end rewards …

I was really impressed by Halloween, even more by the fact that there was more content added that had nothing to with Halloween and went under the radar (the 4 new JP, the explorer titles, then new events like the burglar …)

Thank you Anet for adding so much new content that it’s hard to catch up !

I really like the advice given by all the excellent “developer wannabe’s” in this forum.

“You only have to send one guy there to get rid of the bots I’ve seen ! It’s not like there are dozens of farm spots on each of the 25 maps on 52 servers to be watched 24/7 lolnubs ! Listen to me I have so much experience in MMO developpement and maintenance !”.

If you guys could see a bit further than the end of your nose you’ll realize that the number of gold selling mails dropped significantly the last 2 weeks, and that the farm spots exploited by the bots are spread in the entire world and are changing all the time. It means accounts ARE banned but there are so many possible locations that it’s too easy for them to avoid IG detection, at least for a while.

And I don’t know why I would bother explaining this to an uneducated public who won’t ever have a clue about the complexity of this topic but automatic bot detection is not something that you can implement in one day, even in one week. You first have to understand the farming technique, then find a way to detect it, imagine a detection algorithm, implement it, and finally test it extensively. Any true negative of your algorithm is an undetected bot and any false positive is someone banned wrongfully, so you better be sure of you.

TLDR ; Be patient omg, it’s an incredibly complex subject for a game like that.

Yeah, let us dumb down every single game (or mini-game) because some people can’t do it.

I’m tired of this, if you find this too difficult, do something else. There are a lot of easy things to do in this game, and if you find the game too difficult then there are plenty of other games on the market.

Stop blaming the developpers for your incompetence or for your friend’s disability. Stupidest feedback ever given.

Btw, the tower is hard but actually not that hard (got it in 45 minutes without any guide). Next time, they can even make it worse !

Unforgettable...

For me I have to admit that it was my first experiences in Diessa’s Plateau in BWE3 (I think ?). First of all I discovered my very first Jumping Puzzle on my own, that tower in the ruins full of ghosts. I figured it out alone and took me almost one hour in total … even though that JP is so short ! But with the trebuchets firing on me while I was making the jumps did not make things easy. I was so proud when I reached the top !

Then some minutes later I participated in the event chain to unlock the Flame Citadel mini-dungeon for the first time with some random people that I met there. The puzzles in there took us at least one hour and a half to figure out, but it was so rewarding to get to the end.

Unforgettable moments for sure.

I hate underwater combat. Dull weapons and too buggy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ouroboros.5076

I like it. That said it can get quickly frustrating with the Invulnerable mobs and that does occur quite often. Otherwise it is really an innovating gameplay that requires people to change their habits. As always in those situations, button mashers won’t be happy.

I think though that many people just don’t like the idea of being underwater. Anet could have the best underwater combat of all time, it just won’t appeal a big part of the community (not even talking about the phobic people for who water is already an ennemy).

Why you have to adjust down state (screen inside)

in PvP

Posted by: Ouroboros.5076

Ouroboros.5076

I’ve had the exact same thing once.

I was downed by another mesmer. The fight was long and tough but at the end he won. I brought him to maybe 2k max health with some condition actives, but I still sat on my kitten first and told to myself : “yup, gg”.

3 seconds later I down him too (with some confusion damage from #1 and DoTs still active) before he can stomp me. Then, as I was downed first, my skill #3 was active way before his and absolutely shredded him. I rallied and earned some glory.

I really felt like a cheater as this is not how it should work imo. I like the downstate mechanic as it brings a nice team mechanic (protecting your down allies, interrupting rezzers while one of your mate down it, …) but what happened is not “working as intended”. The crucial factor was only that the OP downed state ability was up sooner than his…

Aside from being "fun" there is no real goal

Ouroboros.5076

Uhh because fun is not a goal, rather an adjective used to describe something? Are you stupid?

This being an MMORPG, progression is usually the most fun part. The feeling of power growing and accumulating new skills and abilities.

Wow. If your ultimate goal while playing video games is not “to have fun” but to “feel the power growing”, it is time for you to call for help. And I say that seriously.

It is safe to say it now.. GOTY?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ouroboros.5076

Ouroboros.5076

GW2 clearly has a shot for GOTY on PC, but it still is an MMO. I think there is a high chance that the GOTY would instead be a good game in a more popular “genre”, like Mass Effect 3 or Borderlands 2. Torchlight 2, even though it looks as a great and very well executed game (I really enjoyed the first one tbh), will suffer from the same problem.

That said, I am very confident it will win best MMO of the year.

Well sir, I find “haters” as funny as you find “fanboys”.

It’s indeed funny that you made a long post full arguments that are in fact supporting what I said. You didn’t deny -at all- that there are a lot of things to do, all you post was just a bunch of “I don’t find that fun” to each and every example of things I listed.

Thank you then for proving my point : there is a lot of content (as my list proved it), but not everyone will find it fun. Which is pretty obvious I know, but only haters and fanboys do not understand that.

I’d say Kralkatorrik first. There’s already a door (closed atm) next to Ascalon to go south, in the Crystal Desert where I think it is now. After the story Destiny’s Edge is reunited, so it would be logical that they would seek revenge in hunting down Kralkatorrik ASAP.

ArenaNet, don't listen to every negative post in the forums.

Ouroboros.5076

The way I’ve seen it over 80% of the criticism is valid, if often poorly articulated, 15% is apologist stuff like this and 5% is the trolls and moronic posts.

And 32% of the numbers found on the Internet are made up.

Honestly there are too many people that have at least tried this game, we’re talking about millions here. That will give us thousands of people who won’t like this game for various reasons. And that will give us hundreds of trolls who like to whine on official forums of games they don’t even play anymore. Not even including people that like the game but like to whine even more, and complain about small things like if this was the end of the world.

So yes, the official forums are full of negativity, but hopefully Anet knows how to filter all that laughable crap to get the interesting feedback (which is really a very, very small fraction of what is said here).

Guild Wars 2 is fun.

For the little amount of content that’s on offer currently

Yeah, “lack of content”. Love that when I see it. Let’s see, I’ve played 140 hours since the start (that’s like more than 4 hours a day btw, not hardcore but clearly not “casual”), I have :

- 80% map completion
- participated in a ton of events, world events and bosses included
- 10 jumping puzzles
- 2 crafted disciplines @400
- done one path of one dungeon in explorable mode
- personal story to lvl 70
- played 5 hours of WvW on only one map
- played 10 hours in sPvP trying out one build
- done one session of 2 hours of tPvP with my guild

That’s already nice and pretty varied I would say. BUT, what I still can do :
- kill zaitan !
- explore the last 20% of the map
- participate in one of the dozens events I missed on each map, especially the world bosses I missed
- max out my successes (like all regions or mobs killing)
- try out another profession
- try out a new race and a new personal story
- 15+ jumping puzzles, the hardest ones
- 6 crafting disciplines to max out
- get any piece of exotic gear
- learn how to use the Mystic Forge
- get a Legendary
- do all the dungeons in all modes
- test various PvP builds and optimize them
- win my first tournament in PvP
- play on the Eternal Battlegrounds
- kill one world boss in WvW
- take one castle in WvW
- explore the lore that is hidden everywhere, like the books in Ascalon
- play organs !
- …

I’ll just stop there as the list is much bigger. And it could event include things that are still not present but will be free in the future, like Halloween or Christmas parties in GW1. There is so much to do in fact that the hardest part is knowing where to begin with.

You have the rights to say that you find most of those things boring and against that there is nothing to say.

But that’s not what you say. You say “there’s no content”. It’s not a matter of personal opinion here, it’s intellectual honesty. There’s no other word to describe your statement other than : bullkitten.
