Hey, but, I, like, played some power necro in top 100. But caring too much about leaderboard rank (since you can cheat them by not playing for 5 days, then playing a match or two…) is a little silly.

Interesting builds Skoigoth and Nacht Fuchs. Still not overly convinced that chill on blind is the best choice! One major problem with taking axe as main-hand over dagger is losing that cleave on the downed.

I’ll have to make a new necro build to play around with; thanks for the ideas.

Sure you can get into top 100 solo queue or team queue with powermancer. Lich isn’t as strong as pre-patch, so you can’t carry quite so hard in solo Q, but it’s still good.

500 or so people watched ToG last weekend, and Sizer’s stream regularly has a couple of hundred watching him play. People do enjoy watching gw2 pvp.

Let’s keep on topic of trying to drive more players from other game modes into watching PvP tournaments, rather than the problems with graphics etc., because I do believe it can be enjoyable to watch and will be good for the game.

I believe this could draw in many PvE players and WvW players, and prevent PvP being by far the minority game type. This would then have knock on effects for the quality of life in PvP, game updates, and even quality of play if more people get involved.

Simple:

Add an in-game message for when a pvp tournament has begun or is being streamed. Having the banner on the forum page with links is great, but an in-game message would help to promote pvp and draw in the masses of non-pvp players.

Thieves are still in the meta of top tier teams, we just didn’t see that many yesterday in the ToG. I think we will see more today and on the next weekend ToG matches.

This is 2v2s against weak players. You should be able play without a stun break if you position yourself well. If you can’t, sure drop spider venom, but the damage from that is not only poison without having to swap to short bow (and hence lose damage from pistol auto-attack) but also the leeching health and damage (which procs 5 times each for each person, hence about 4k damage instantly (if I remember correctly).

This build is p/d and short bow. In a fight, you won’t be gap closing on a player to target them hard, because you’ll be keeping range. If you want to gap close/chase someone to a point, just use short bow 5, and save your utility slot.

Merciful ambush is to troll in 2v2s with your friend. Sure, run thrill of the crime if you want, but for the fun of bad enemies wondering where you went, take merciful ambush, AND save shadow refuge (which is on a long cool down).

Nightmare runes are not too OP to pass up. I have no idea what you mean. Much higher bleed duration is better. Nightmare runes are great for necros because of the terror trait, but they’re not too OP for other classes because of the long cool down, no terror damage, and for this build, bleed duration is important because of the auto attack. Chicago Jack is just plain wrong.

Energy sigil on one set is enough. Take the higher damage. Obs L2P issues can make you take more than one, but your choice.

Residual venoms for the elite, spider and torment venoms is OP, especially in a 2v2 situation. You don’t need your opponent to be immobilised to hit the stealth auto attack. That’s ridiculous; it’s insanely easy. If, however, OP does want more immobilise in the build, you can take the immobilise venom or panic strike, sure.

I’ve actually played a build like this, trolling around, quite a bit.

It’s an improvement on the previously listed one (imo) and is great fun to play in a small group/with a friend. Get your friend on power ranger, and watch people melt. Have fun!

^Sorry Kitt but if 1 player has a higher rank than another player in solo queue, it doesn’t mean that player is better. Ranks are a good rough estimate, but rank 1 is not necessarily better than rank number 2.

This is because of several reasons: 1. Some professions can carry in solo Q harder than others (one example is a thief); 2. Some players like to try out different builds, play builds which they’re not good with but enjoy trying out in Solo Q, and only try hard in team Q; 3. There are some skills unique to team Q, like communicating downed player, reviving, cleaving, targeting etc. that are impossible in solo Q

My experience of the EU leaderboards, and win/lose ratios, is that not all people who have high rankings/ratios are good, but almost all the good people who play regularly maintain a high ranking and win/lose ratio.

There are of course some exceptions where good players play with bad teams, and have a lower ratio for that, but those players are rather scarce.

It’s not perfect, and I disagree with OP that so much importance should be placed on LB, as if you’d discard what someone says because of their LB ranking; instead, make your own mind up as to whether something is correct or not rather than just believing the high ranked players know the answer.

However, I’ve often found, the majority of players who think LB are absolutely worthless have a low LB ranking themselves, and some confidence issues. Instead, I think the LB gives a good rough estimate.

Huge respect for Odium since he’s actually polite and a nice guy, as well as superb, in solo queues. A rare thing.

Frequently the teleport makes you blink 1 step to the right, or just keeps you in the same position, rather than teleporting you back 1200 range in the direction of the wurm. This has bugged me for months, so I thought that it was best to write a report for it.

I don’t know whether it is related to jumping and casting the port at the same time (as an example) or just say 25% of the time the teleport fails.

Please sort this out. For a profession with very little mobility and not much survivability in pvp, the wurm is extremely important.

4 of our team all crashed while playing team queues, in silent storm. Was a tad annoying ‘cause it didn’t happen to anyone from the enemy team The game also crashed a couple of times on the loading screen to silent storm when we tried to get back into the match.

^ Yes there are many elementalists who are better than you and have a higher win rate.

I wouldn’t use the heal venom, I think it makes you too vulnerable and isn’t that useful. Use hide in shadows instead, and just go full dire instead of some healing power gear.

Ok these are my changes:

EoTM terrormancer

Spectral wall or signet of spite is up to you.

I’d also prefer dagger offhand for duels (extra condi pressure and a condi transfer) but for running around eotm, warhorn offhand is great.

Perplexity runes are great on a condi necro. All your fears and warhorn 4 count as interrupts.

I changed the traits to much better ones. They’re self-explanatory.

A useful thing to remember is your condition transfer. His burning from longbow, immoblize from pin down etc. can all be transferred by dagger 4 and staff 4.

His cleansing ire only cleanses 3 conditions at a time, so it is very important to apply a wide range of conditions regularly. Don’t focus on just stacking bleeds with scepter auto-attack, but transfer his pin down for an immoblize, use scepter 5 for weakness or death shroud on entry weakness trait etc.

Whenever he procs zerker stance, just get the **** out of the way. Hide, kite, whatever. Just ignore him, and ignore the point. When that’s of cool down, use your condi spike combos, and he’s ******.

I always use flesh wurm as my stun break, because not only will it get you out of his CC chain, but when he pops zerker stance, you can get far enough away to prevent him doing any damage to you.

The nerfs to thieves are minimal. Stop whining.

They’ll drag it out until October imo. Perhaps a couple of Ready Ups on the future of exports, different game types down the line, wvw tournaments etc.

That’s true, and I’d say that’s the only rune you need to buy. Some people will also buy sigil of generosity, and some of the grandmaster traits. All in all, there are very few things you need to buy, and it’s not a problem, just a minor inconvenience.

Strength runes aren’t a problem at all anymore. Many people don’t even run them, but run hoelbrak, pirate or pack instead.

Why don’t you want to find a team to play tpvp with, and then really find out if you’ve maxed out your skill on guardian?

For tpvp, I don’t think the build OP posted will be anywhere near optimal post patch. S/d and d/p will still be the main meta. The upcoming changes will encourage more people to try out the less popular p/d and p/p, and they may become more frequent in low and mid tier pvp, but I believe only one or two players will be able to be successful with those weapon sets at high tier.

Still looking for a bunker guard, who has experience in top 500 minimum ranked tpvp, and is very active. He/She will have a core position in our team.

^^An easy way to combat a really bunky team is to run a high burst set up. So that’s the normal shatter mesmer, thief etc., but also builds like zerker staff ele and zerker necro become viable against teams like this.

A position is also possibly open for a roamer, if very active and good. Pm me if you’re interested.

Now looking for an extremely active (ie. several hours each day, and prime time) Bunker Guard who wants to become a core member of our team.

My opinion on the leaderboards:

Good players are high ranked, but not all high ranked players are good players.

Recruitment is open again for 1 or 2 great players. This is because a couple of silly peanuts have gone on holiday. I hang my head in shame. Bunker guard/shatter mesmer/d/d ele preferred, but all considered (par thief).

Disclaimer: Lots of builds are stronger, so I’ll base my suggestions on your request for an easy entry level build, with good survivability, rather than trying to create the best build.

A couple of things:

1. Running around WvW on this build would be super slow. To prevent your son getting bored/holding back his friends, use war horn off hand. That gives some very helpful swiftness. It also has a long daze, which is useful in tough situations.

2. Heal skill: Must use consume conditions even on a MM build. It is a superb healing skill, and will handle the condition cleanse problems this build has.

3. Superior sigil of energy will give a dodge on swap – which is very useful for survivability. Use it instead of sup. sigil of strength (your crit chance is too low to use crit chance procing sigils). This will also help him to learn the importance of weapon swapping and dodging.

4. Food: Use that food that lowers incoming condition duration if you want to be more tanky. Check the wiki for the name, I’ve forgotten it.

5. Runes of Strength are vastly overrated. Use the Pirate runes instead (OP) if you want damage, Melandru (if you want him to survive for longer – a very good idea for newcomers/entry level players), Pack (for more swiftness running around and precision and power) or Traveler (for condition duration, and passive 25% speed buff – I highly suggest this for WvW).

6. Traits:

- Flesh of the Master instead of Staff Mastery. Necessary for Minion Master builds.
- Path of Midnight instead of Vital Persistence. More useful for a quicker fear and immob (use skill 5 then 3 a second after). A good defensive and offensive combo.

Yo. PBJT is a new pvp team/group, formed of a bunch of friends who have played together for months in several other guilds. However, several players have gone inactive on account of holidays and other shameful real life reasons. Because of this, we’d like to find a couple of new, very good players to join us.
