Maybe they do care about WvW, and that’s why they are making this change. Who here has stopped to consider the possibility that he/she is wrong, and the crit damage change is warranted? If you haven’t, even for a second, then you need to step back and try.

Roaming around on my staff ele. I see a warrior doing the same. We decide to fight. I can’t out damage his passive healing. He is 100% impossible to kill for my staff ele. My staff eles damage is getting nerfed.

Zerker gear isn’t the problem. The problem is the game and it’s mechanics. Aswell as their flawed attempts at “fixing” encounters thus far… Defiant/10x the HP with extremely drawn out stand in place combat(wurm,golem,maw,etc)/condition caps not player based but encounter based and even if they were player based still make conditions in pve worthless… To name a few…
Also along those lines the way every dungeon is set up there’s no reason to run anything aside from DD(direct dmg) DPS builds.
-> We have no need for support outside of our own utilities.
-> We have no group synergy outside of measely combo fields.
-> We have no need for defensive gear for any encounter since we have built in defenses with our heals/utilities/dodges.
-> We have no encounters that require actual tactics outside of just dodging “X” attack. Stand in place AI falls into this too.We could go on and on about this. But the problem will always exist in gw2. Remove zerker gear… Knights or pvt becomes the next hot topic, then that gets nerfed because constant qq because they’ve yet to address the actual problem, their game/core mechanics. It’s an on going cycle that will not be fixed. Especially if they keep going about using “duct tape” to fix a broken weld.
Plus everyone who doesn’t understand what every zerker/celestial user is so upset about… It’s wvw. Pve and wvw are 2 completely different beasts yet they feel the need to keep them on the same “balance” updates. The loss of dmg for burst/DD power builds vs other players is huge and makes everyone who spent all their time and gold crafting their gear now worthless.

What if they kept all of the content 100% the same way as it was, but upped the effectiveness of support, tanking, and control. Then you have roles, but they arent needed to complete content.

Zerker gear is used not because it has better stats than any other set. It’s used because it’s all that is needed in A-nets crappy mindless, no skill, PvE game.

PvE is different from WvW. They shouldn’t be nerfed the same. My staff ele can only beat huners and necros 1-1, now my damage is getting nerfed? Because people use it in PvE? It’s absolutely ridiculous.
My WvW build is getting nerfed because A-net has made a PvE game that is all about DPS. There is no reason to do control. There is no reason to heal. If you made a reason to control, and a reason to heal, you would have a trinity, and people don’t want that, so you’re stuck with just doing DPS. Guess which weapon set is best for DPS?
Ok so now they’re nerfing zerker, because everyone in PvE uses it. What is going to change? People are just going to do the exact same content, the exact same way, but with whatever gear is the new best ( it may still be zerker )
This nerf helps nothing, and kittens over a lot of people.

Healing is very underwhelming in this game. I really wanted to make a healer, but even with full healing I don’t heal very well. It’s disappointing. I don’t know if it’s worth it, even in WvW.

You can’t have challening dungeons requiring teamwork without the holy trinity.

I think this build could be very effective in a 5 man group. Small scale fights where you have someone else to drop people for you. You just CC, support, survive, with a bit of extra damage thrown in =p

A couple things
- Runes of the Travelers. I think I am wrong about how these work. I was thinking that if I am in combat, I would have travelers + speed buff, which would give me a nice speed buff. Does it not work this way? Do they not stack?
- The build I posted is a little wrong. The gear is right, but the traits and utilities are wrong. Here is an updated one

Gokil, in regards to sigil of battle, how much dps would that add in comparison to a sigil of fire? I always thought fire was better but I could be wrong.

I agree with that guide, except that I think you should put in as much DPS as possible. Healing rain and static field work exactly the same no matter how much defense you have, so as long as you can stay alive I would try to get as much DPS as possible.

Hi guys, I am terrible at math! Therefore I am having trouble figuring out what would be more damage. I would really really appreciate some help figuring this out.
A little background: Usually run as a 20-30 person zerg, fighting other zergs. I need some survivability, so I can’t go full zerker, but I don’t know what would give me more damage.
Here is the spec I am working towards, but I really need some help tweaking it.
Would my damage be higher if I dropped some celestrial for knights? If so, what pieces are best to switch?
I just can’t figure it out, and I don’t want to make any ascended items until I know that I made the right choice, since I am poor and it’s so expensive lol.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think WvW would benefit the most from trinity. Right now you get a lot of people running when their skills are down, or they’re close to losing, but I feel trinity would encourage fighting.

If im zerging or playing in towers / keeps, then I am full zerker for sure. No reason not to be. When I run with my guild though, and it’s 20 of us vs double or triple our numbers, I find I could use a bit of survivability. If we do things like push through a zerg, I find that things can get hairy if my cantrips are down.
Anything else people are running that is successful?

I am trying to come up with what kind of item combo I want for my staff ele in WvW.
I put a premium on power, and crit damage, but also want to add some survivability.

I play zerk ele. It can be a lot of fun, although the damage can sometimes be bad, even as full zerker, but I survive pretty well, so I dont see a reason not to be zerker. A well placed meteor + tornado can be a zerg fight changer. Its not uncommon to drop a meteor on a stack of enemies banging on a door, and down a few of them.
One other thing I like to do is use lightning flash offensively. Ill go through a mesmer vale, get stealth, lightning flash ahead of the zerg to get a good static field down on the enemy.

I think they should change ground targets a bit. Make them only go to the max range. So if my cursor is at 1500, the ground target will only go to 1200 range. I didnt explain it very well lol.
Also why are stacks generally set to 250. Make them infinite! =p

Why don’t you just use Koi cakes instead? Or am I missing something?
Koi cakes last 20 minutes, so an hour of koi cakes costs 4 silver (1s33c each) where as an hour of sautee costs a gold. For a gold you can have enough Koi cakes to last 8 hours lol.

Maybe it’s just me, but the skills in this game don’t really seem to do anything. Everything is so weak. It’s so easy to just run in this game. Chance I might die? ok bye. It’s getting to the point where I don’t want to play this game anymore. There are some changes that I think would make me stick around though.
Make things do stuff. What does that mean? Up damage by 100%, up healing by 150%, up conditions, up cleanses. Make actually standing in a water field heal you for a good amount. Instead of basically nothing.
Make all skills better.
I could delve further into this, but what do you guys think of making skills better for WvW?

I think a much better alternative to a leaderboard would be to have races. You could do a one month race where you have to make a new character, start at level one fractal, and just go. You could have the new content start off in the race as an extra incentive to play it. (After the race is over, the new content, and the characters / items would be put back into regular play. )

I use sword / sword, and longbow. I want to do small scale in WvW, sometimes im solo, sometimes i roam with friends. I’ve tried out both in sPvP, but I can’t decide what I like better.

This patch’s goal for the elementalist was to increase the power of the Earth, Air and Fire lines, while taking away some of the need to go into the Arcane line. This was done by bringing up the base cooldown of attunements so that elementalists aren’t forced to go as deep into Arcane in order to get the old attunement cooldown %’s. In doing so, we decided put some of the most powerful Adept tier traits in Water magic and Arcane to the Master tier to avoid power creep that would have occurred by letting players gain powerful effects in Master and Grandmaster tier of Fire, Air, and Earth and still get the extremely powerful traits in Water and Arcane by only splashing in 10 points.
Fire II – Burning Fire – This trait has a new effect. Use Cleansing Fire automatically when you have a number of conditions on you. 3 conditions. 40 second cooldown. Moved to Master tier.
Fire VIII – Conjurer – Moved to Adept tier.
Fire III – Ember’s Might. The effect of this trait has been changed to Burns you apply last longer. 25%.
Burning Rage 25 – Increased damage dealt to burning foes from 5% to 10%.
Air V – Soothing Winds. Increased conversion from 5% to 7%.
Air XI – Tempest Defense. Decreased the cooldown from 60s to 25s.
Earth 5 – Stone Flesh – Increased toughness while attuned to Earth Magic to 1.5/level (120 at level 80).
Earth VII – Strength of Stone. This trait is now Gain condition damage based on your Toughness. 10%.
Earth XI – Diamond Skin. This trait has been redesigned. Conditions cannot be applied to you when your health is above the threshold. 90%.
Water I – Aquamancer’s Alacrity. Moved to Master tier.
Water V – Cleansing Wave. Moved to Master tier.
Water VIII – Arcane Abatement. Moved to Adept tier.
Water X – Soothing Wave. Moved to Adept tier.
Arcane III – Arcane Retribution. Moved to Master tier. Decreased cooldown from 90 seconds to 45 seconds.
Arcane IV – Final Shielding. Decreased cooldown from 90s to 75s.

Arcane VI – Renewing Stamina. Moved to Master tier.
Arcane VII – Vigorous Scepter. Moved to Adept tier.

The following changes were done to reduce the necessity of putting points into the Arcane trait line.
The base cooldown of the attunement that you just left is now reduced from 16 seconds to 13 seconds. Attunement cooldown rate now increases by 1% per point in Arcane down from 2%. The end result is that now Attunements go from 13s to 10s instead of the old range of 16s to 10s.
Base global attunement cooldown is now 1.625 seconds. Global attunement cooldown rate now decreases by 1% per point in Arcane down from 2%. The end result is that now global attunement cooldown goes from 1.625 to 1.25 instead of the old range of 2.0 to 1.25.

I am working on my berserker ele,(mostly zerker gear, some PVT) but I am stuck between 2 possible trait specs.
Right now I run 30/20/0/0/20, but I am curious if 20/30/0/0/20 would be a better damage output spec?
Basically the difference is
100 power/might on fire spell (atleast 4-5 stacks of might
vs
100 precision / 10% crit damage
I can’t figure out what would do more damage.

In a lot of ways I agree. In some ways though GW2 feels like a step backwards. Take for instance combat logs. All it does is tell you how hard you hit something, and how hard it hit you. Now in comparison to DaoC, an MMO from over 10+ years ago, whos combat log tells you everything. Every skill you use, every block, every evade, who you hit, who you heal, who heals you. Etc etc.

I think i’ll drop my buff duration in exchange for ruby orbs. Try out 4 rubys and 2 hoelbrak. I do like the might stacking, it’s very easy to keep my might at 12+
Sabull, thanks for the tip on exchanging some PVT and zerker items. I m gonna look into it, but figured I may as well ask, what type of stat improvement should I see from switching the items around?

I think Eruption is far too slow, though I get the reasoning behind people wanting it left alone. Cut the ramp up in half, and add a few seconds to the CD.
Cutting the ramp up would render it useless. The ramp up is exactly what makes it an effective set-up skill.
I think it would depend on how much you cut the ramp up. If you don’t cut it drastically you would still be able to cast eruption then whatever field you want.
But if you lower the ramp up you could do things like cast static field, lava font, and then cast an eruption on top of it. Instead of it having to be the other way around. So if done correctly you can be even better at combo fields / finishers.
Imagine being able to blast finish say static field or lava font . Cast some other earth skills, and then blast finish into another. It could be very effective

This is not true what so ever. Lava Font damage is higher than Fireball. It also has a 1/4 second cast time, as opposed to 1 second.
If Lava Font did damage as soon as it was applied I would cream my pants irl.

Hi there!
After getting 4 characters to 80, I’ve decided that the staff ele fits my play style the best.
I am having some trouble optimizing my gear, and traits. So I am hoping for any input that anyone could offer
Also please keep in mind this is not a solo or small scale build. Usually in a group of 20.
My gear is as follows.
Armor: PVT
Runes: 2x Water, 2x Monk, 2x Hoelbrak. 30% buff duration, and 20% might duration. Not sure if it’s worth it or not, or if another rune set would be more beneficial.
Weapon: Berserker
Sigil: Superior Sigil of Fire. I really like this sigil, it adds quite a bit of dps imo
Jewerly: Full berserker

Food & Oil: I use master maintenance oil, as my crit chance is low, and plate of truffle steak for power and even more precision.
This set up leaves me with:
3447 attack
40% crit chance(I used Sigil of Precision to get my crit chance over 50%, but I would like it even higher)
53% increase critial damage bonus(question: is there a base of 50% damage bonus? therefore my crits do 103% damage? Or am I making this up lol?)
14185 life
2074 armor
With stacks of might I can easily get up to 4k attack, and with 50% crit the damage I can put out vs zergs is pretty good, but I am not sure if it’s optimized. Would more crit chance / damage be a better investment as opposed to more power?

Defora, I like your trait build, I have a question about your armor / stats though.
I also run PVT armor + zerk trinket/wep, but I don’t come close to 50% crit chance, and according to your link you get 50% crit.
Is the website screwy? or how do you get up to 50% crit without food?

A little off topic, but I agree completely. I think they should make it so WX kitten plit amongst anyone who is in the group. I would even take it further, and make groups 10 person big in WvW, and let casted boons affect all 10 people in the group( as long as theyre in say, 1000 range,instead of taking the 5 closest.
Even more off topic, imo, the AE cap needs to go, or atleast up it to 10-20. 5 is to little. Also I don’t think the ranks should be account bound

I understand about keeping an even playing field, and about the no progression. There is progression in this game though. I guess it’s just about how much progression you want.
Personally I think that a bit of obtainable character progression would be good for WvW, as long as it’s done right and doesn’t make someone far superior to someone who doesn’t have it. I think a little more character customization would be good for the game, as I think it’s a bit lacking in that area.
It seems that most people are against this though

I am liking the world exp, but I can’t help but think that everything you gain from it is useless. 5% more/less damage from guards, less damage from siege, all seem really trivial.
In my opinion it would make WvW even better if we had some type of character progression.
Things like:
5% more/less damage to other people in WvW
5% more casting speed
5% increase recharge time
5% more life,toughness,power,healing power, etc etc
There are tons of options that I think would be cool to have.
You could even set it up like a trait tree, have all kind of new passive skills, but WvW only.
Anyways just my 2 cents, something like this would make WvW a lot more enjoyable for me.

I’ve been playing a might stack ele, and I find the same thing. Even with 25 stacks of might the damage isn’t good. A lot of the AEs are long cast times and easy to dodge.
I’m trying to find a good ranged class for this game, but there doesn’t really seem to be one.
The only problem I have with staff ele is that I get my kitten kicked in melee range. That’s how it should be. But then I don’t kick kitten at ranged. The damage is just to slow, to little, and misses too easily.
I am really effective at putting lava fonts on downed people though :/

Hi there,
Let me preface this with saying I don’t know anything about mice.
I was given a Logitech Performance Mouse MX for christmas, but I am having trouble getting all of the buttons to work.
When I first plugged it in, the fwd and back buttons worked ingame, but the zoom and programs buttons would not. So I installed the CD in hopes I could figure out how to get them all to work, but now none of them do.
If anyone would be able to offer some insight into my problem I would be very grateful!
