People the point of games is to have fun, not playing WvWvW because there isn’t enough rewards is silly because there will obviously be more in the future and more stuff will come. Play stuff because it entertains you, why do you always have to be rewarded for what you do?

This does /not/ include complaining about something that is game-breaking broken, however. An exploit is an exploit, plain and simple.

Many of the activities within WvW are not fun, that is the issue. Escorting dolyaks, repairing keep walls, running supply to build siege, trebbing, none of these activites are fun on their own merits. Once you introduce a reward for doing those activities, it becomes fun.

For many players the acquisition of new shinies is the fun part.

That’s your opinion tho.

Just bought 100 greens off the trading post, used a master salvage kit on 40 of them and got no ectos so I threw the rest in the mystic forge, made 7 rares and salvaged them.

From the 7 rares I got 17 ectos with the master’s kit. Yeah, I am that lucky!

Most new players get their start there!

I used to be an avid WvW player when this game first launched, 6 hour bender sessions were not all that uncommon for me the first few months but now these days I can not stay in WvW for more than 30 minutes without getting bored and going back to PvE.

It’s too slow, so much time is spent taking undefended territory and traveling the maps, building siege, repairing walls, escorting dolyaks and various other ’non-fun’ activites. The giant battles are still awesome but you’re lucky to have 2 of these in a 6 hour session.

The other issue I have is the culling. I am not going to complain about thieves/mesmers because I do not know how truly strong these classes would be if there were no culling issues but I do know that 2 thieves right now can take out a dolyak being escorted by 30 people before they render, that is game breaking.

Lol I have not finished my monthly since October. Always stuck at 92% and 0/7 fractals.

SoR competes in WvW the way it was intended. We fight two fronts, one against each server. We are fighting TC in TCs BL and we are fighting BG in SoRs BL.

We are not going to pull out of TC BL and fight BG on two fronts. That would be a disservice to a quality opponent. If BG blows us out so be it, they earned their shot at Tier 1 weeks ago.

4 months into the Glicko Rating System and the only matchup this week that isn’t a blowout is Tier 3.

I agree with your concepts but to the extent that build is secondary in WvW to situational awareness.

Speaking from a player that plays his elementalist and ranger equally, if you’re traveling in a small group picking off supply camps/dolyaks and you’re using staff (ele) or longbow (rang) you may as well be wearing a sign that says ’I don’t know how to play my class, free kill here’.

I don’t care whether you are a glass cannon or a bunker, those two weapons were designed for large scale support and siege breaking. Playing them in an open world setting (unless your with a zerg) is to intentionally hinder yourself. There is no thief regardless of build that should lose a 2v1 against a staff ele and a longbow ranger. It’s not a matter of thief being overpowered or having a strong build, it’s a matter of the ele and ranger lacking the situational awareness to know they should be using a dagger off hand (ele) and a torch off hand (rang).

If you move the above situation from open world to a tower and put the staff ele and longbow ranger on the wall and put an infinite number of dagger/dagger thieves on the ground, the ranger/ele would win that fight 100% of the time until the thieves eventually got the door down.

So many players fail at weapon choice for their particular situation that builds become moot and pointless. Builds only come into play once you get beyond that initial step.

Our diehards are still chugging along but we had an issue Sat morning that destroyed any chance of us getting our more casual players into WvW this week.

Jokes aside, I am only 962k away from finishing this. I dont think 7-10 years is all that unreasonable.

I have 2000000 karma, I would happily go back and do the lower zones even at reduced karma if karma had any value whatsoever.

Sanctum of Rall queued in all 3 BLs and a 2 hour wait for EB.

Ranger for sure, Meteor Shower is very inconsistent. Ive dropped it on entire zergs and had it only hit 1 target since it selects its 5 targets at cast and if they move out of the circle it will hit nobody even if there are people still standing in the circle.

Base shortbow attack will hit a target 3 times standing on a wall edge before they react, couple this with the longbow AoE which never seems to miss anyone in the circle even with more than 5 players there and you have a badge farming machine especially if you take Quickening Zephyr.

Tier 1 is far too tactical and the one week I was on Sea of Sorrows I hated it. Spent most of the week in PvE.

Swirling wind chains, golem bubble chains, treb vs treb action, while these tactics are logically sound and do help with tower captures they are extremely boring to me and take the ’fun’ out of WvW.

All games are like this unfortunately, at the highest levels winning becomes more important than having fun. It’s really an awful way to play the game.

That said, look at the forum thread for Tier 2 which gets to 15 pages every week. That Tier has almost as much population as the Tier 1 servers without all the tactical bullkitten that goes on in Tier 1. I really think Tier 2 is where it’s at these days in WvW.

The profanity is not the issue, the issue is the personal attack. Freedom of Speech does not give you the right to threaten people.

I agree, I’m over 250 fractals, on scale 28, and I’d say 80-90% of pugs are reasonable people w/o horrible attitudes.

In all fairness, I don’t have to deal with unreasonable people 100% of the time when I play alone or with close friends, 80-90% is unacceptable.

Fractals are the best way to earn gold but if dungeons are not your thing (they’re not mine), you can make do with simple farming in WvW or Cursed Shore. The gold per hour isn’t as good but if you stick with it, you will reach your goal eventually.

It has certainly been a pleasure TC.

After 7 weeks of having IoJ only play for 2nd place, it was nice having another server in this matchup that is playing to win.

WvW has become dull and stagnant, it is far too tactical.

Between swirling wind chains, golem bubble chains, and untargetable trebuchets, ’fun’ packed its bags and left WvW a long time ago.

Wait until 4:30 AM on christmas eve, or newyers eve, and try tarnished coast. If that doesn’t work, wait until 4:30 AM wed after xmas break.

The servers DO bump off the full list around that time (pacific)

BEWARE: Tarnished Coast is a very high demand server.

I realize Anet must have done something to increase the cap or filtered it out or something, since the other week they all went from Full to Very High.

However, now they’re filling up again and I can’t get on the server my husband and Guild transferred to (which is Tarnished Coast). Neither can my sister-in-law.

Are these servers stuck at Full? Every time I look, it never moves from Full. Any Tarnished Coast members know what times I should be aiming for to camp the World Select screen?

This gentlemen is correct. Tarnished Coast and Sea of Sorrows are both extremely high demand servers. There are a lot of players looking to move to them as soon as spots open.

You’ll need to check regularly as in every few hours if you’re looking to move to one of these servers.

What I loved:

Tixx’s Infinirarium
I thought this mini dungeon was absolutely perfect. It was interactive, it was short, it had moderate level of difficulty, and the rewards were worth the time invested.

Presents in the World
This to me was the best idea behind Wintersday. I remember the first couple of nights there were people just everywhere collecting their gifts while doing DEs in the world. It was nice to see the newbie areas as populated as they were at launch.

Gemstore Staff Skin
Nicest staff skin in the game in my opinion, like the graphic more than I like the graphic of the Bifrost. Need to see more thick models like this in game

What I liked:

Bell Choir/Toypocalpse
Mini spinoffs of other games that Ive played in the past brought back some nostalgia and were very entertaining. Level of difficulty seemed too high otherwise would be in the ’Love’ category

Snowball Mayhem
Great idea, very innovative and would have been much more enjoyable if a select group of players had played with team interests in mind instead of just achievements. Was ruined by poor sportsmanship, not ANet’s fault.

Minis
Always love mini pets and was very excited to see a different set offered in gem shop and in game. Was able to obtain 5 of them but was disappointed in opening 50 gem store boxes and not receiving a mini festive golem.

What I didn’t like:

Gemstore Longbow/Short Bow and Toy Skins
For as much as I liked the staff skin for its thick design, I disliked the bows for their extremely thin design. The base frames of the bows are pencil thin, almost as thin as the bow string itself. The princess wand seemed too small to me.

Princess Dolls
These creatures seemed too strong in comparison to the other wintersday creatures. Confusion especially when it comes in mass seems to be too powerful, I could not kill 5 of these with my elementalist in full exotics and would often have to dodge roll away and leave them.

Giver’s Items
Healing Power and Magic Find on an item seems pointless as anyone who takes a healing/support role knows they are going to get less loot than their dps counterpart. Can’t really think of a situation across all professions that these items would be useful.

What I hated:

The Jumping Puzzle
Normally a big fan of jumping puzzles but these timed puzzles are irritable and impossible for me to do. Being an old gamer (relatively) I don’t have the twitch muscles that some players out there seem to have, I made 50 attempts at this puzzle only to reach the set of candy canes 3 times and never making it beyond the next jump.

I hate this scoring system so much.

If the match up were to end right now, it would be SoR’s 1st win in 10 weeks yet the server would lose rating.

I think you’re exaggerating a bit, do you read the Borlis Pass or the Kaineng threads? I doubt it. Nobody reads this thread besides BG, SoR and TC players. Do you think anyone on BG cares that a certain guild builds siege in the invulnerability spot? I doubt it.

Nine Dragon and Crusade transferred to Blackgate last week despite all the allegations of ’Hackgate’ because most players don’t really care about a bunch of posturing on the forums.

If you feel the need to do it then do everyone a favor and uninstall.

If you get more than 100 hours out of it, I would say at least in my eyes it was well worth the price you paid for it.

As you mentioned thou OP, the game does have a very high turn over rate because it really lacks any substantial end game at the moment. It offers what its contemporaries offer and to steal a phrase I once saw on the swtor boards ’You can’t beat WoW at being WoW’.

There needs to be more activities to do at 80 besides dungeons and pvp, things that engage both the solo player and the guild player.

I was on EB last night for a long time. SMC was contested by SOR and BG, so while they were busy we went and took some of BGs stuff. This action was barely keeping us beteen 200 – 220 ppts. The BLs was having quite a few issues. Our own BLs only had 2-3 red dots on it, as well as the rest of the BLs. We just didn’t have the coverage. Tough night for us. A bunch of us went over, we managed to take hills back, but that lil red water camp UGH. I hate it. It flips like a pancake.

Nights will always be tough, just come to accept it :P.

BG is the heavy server in this tier matchup and you should expect them to take your things when you’re sleeping.

That just means you have to put in that much more the next day to make up for all the losses from the overnight. From what I’ve seen so far, you guys will be fine. I mean BG and SoR has been fighting for 5 weeks now, and neither is making any progress against the other. Blackgate came in as a 2026 server is now 2011, SoR started as a 1924 server and is now 1964.

And if you maintain as you are, then BG will drop to around 1980 and SoR will drop to around 1956.

edit: Which now that I think about it, may put BG in a precarious situation. They will be within 24 ELO from us, and if you repeat next week, SoR may take 1st place because BG’s drop will be significant again just by default. TC has the potential to really shake up this matchup if you keep the scores close.

BG always loses on the weekend, cmon man. You know SoR has lead this matchup 4 of the last 6 weeks at the end of the night on Sunday.

It’s never been the weekend where the NA prime lose, it’s during the week when everyone returns back to work/school and the 24 hour coverage shows its effect.

I think its a non-issue.

Guilds roll together regardless of whether someone has a tag or not, and non-guilded players can pickup on who are the good leaders and who are the bad leaders in the first week of WvW play.

If you’re playing in the early morning hours (the time of your post), the best bet would be to go play on Sea of Sorrows or Isle of Janthir.

This is how said server would play out

1) 2000 people would jump on it, 1000 of them would make thieves and go to Lion’s Arch (assumed safe zone). Buy gems and level up to 80 in 4 hours doing crafting.

2) 500 of them would then scatter out to all the newbie zones and kill any level 1 that walks into the zone repeatedly giving new characters no chance to level.

3) Every subsequent new person would quit immediately, complain on these forums, and go back to their original server.

4) The servers population would be dead within 2 days of release.

I am convinced that trebs are the bane of fun in WvW.

Having 40 people stand around 2 trebs waiting for them to tear down a wall while 40 defenders stand around watching 3 eles spam swirling winds seems so anti-fun.

I see no problem with Legendaries being sellable.

The person that put in the hard work is getting a reward whether it be in the form of a legendary or in the form of gold.

The person that is buying it had to buy gems to convert to gold which means they are supporting the game. Ultimately whether a person has a legendary or not does not affect my game play but people that do support the game do affect my game play because more money for them means they can hire more people which will get more content and features for me quicker.

That’s 9 people on a random thursday morning killing a champion in Wayfarer Foothills. There’s people everywhere, I just don’t see a dwindling population.

Perfectly fine with removing mist form, just give us a substanial increase in armor to compensate since thieves and warriors can still down us in 1 set of combos.

Good call, that is the first argument against RMT that has some real merit. I guess there are people that are really serious about achievements, those would certainly be somehow affected by this.

It’s a simple thing really. If you put effort into something then it has a value for you. If then someone comes by and gets it cheaply, the value of your effort suddenly is compared to the cheap way. Originally the achievement had the value of what you put into it. And all of a sudden someone invalidates it by giving it a different value.

For example, if it takes you 20 hours of gameplay to get something and somebody buys it for 10 bucks worth of gems. Then your 20 hours are no longer represented by the effort but the money value. In this case 10 bucks for 20 hours of gaming effort.

Would you work for 50 cents an hour?

This is the point.

If you consider achievement hunting to be work, why are you chasing achievements at all?

It’s not though. Your achievements are just that, your achievements. How someone else obtains theirs does not affect you in any matter what so ever.

You know, I log on and go into WvW and there’s usually 1 or 2 commanders on the map so I latch on to them. No sooner do I arrive there then I am being told to put on a scepter/focus and cast swirling winds which I won’t do. That’s not how I want to play my character.

Invariably I end up being berated either by the commander or one of his guildmates, these people are also not in the minority either. I can not go into WvW these days without having someone tell me how to play my character. I’ve played on Sea of Sorrows, Blackgate, and Sanctum of Rall it happens everywhere.

Most of the WvW diehards, just like most of the dungeon diehards, are jerks. I hate to say it but I’d much rather play alone then with most of these kitten.

I am perfectly fine with removing this from the game so Commanders stop getting angry with me because I refuse to stand on their treb and spam it for hours.

I just now completed mine as in 2 minutes ago and got the usual Karma Jug/Mystic Coin + Black Lion Salvage Kit. I would say its unchanged.

I would take a critics award over a players choice award any day of the week. I doubt there’s very many players out there that have played every game published this year.

I find it rather amusing that people bash on this game for gameplay. Mass Effect 3 you were lucky to get 50 hours out of it, Walking Dead was good for 2 hours of play and 18 hours of movie scenes, Borderlands 2 and Journey couldn’t even keep me interested for 5 hours yet I see people come on these forums and bash this game when they have 1000+ hours spent playing it.

Hey buddy, there’s no subscription fee here. If you got 1000 hours out of this game for $60 I would say it was a pretty good kitten game even if you do hate it now.
