Here’s the thing: it’s only displaced resentment. The resentment itself is completely warranted. Why would anyone be pleased with the fact that we’re back in a system that was already deemed to be inferior and thus rejected?
WvW got polls for this type of thing. However, sPvP still lives in the dark age where we’re forced to endure a reversion—and only on a 1-day notice. Shameful development practices.
Anyone internal can see the true age of my account. Let’s just say I’ve seen it all for GW2 and this is the nadir of how the development team has treated the players—especially when they seemingly already learned their lessons and tried to fix their practices!
The current leadership just can’t seem to help itself.

The fact you had to put that together explains why it, as it currently stands, is absolutely horrendous. I’ve already made it clearin my posts I’m not sticking around once WoW’s expansion hits, but I have little reason to even login for the next three weeks now. The playing experience is putrid. I can’t even begin to say how I long for season 3. Kitten, how I long for everything prior to the last balance patch.
So I was playing pvp, noticing the amulet changes, why not do away with them entirely, and use slots based on gear, 6 for armor, 6 for assorted trinkets (or just 6 for armor) so that you can have a better build for what you want to do?
Because ANET specifically decided balance was too difficult unless they could make sweeping changes by adding or deleting static amulets. Once upon a time, sPvP did have some elements of customization. Unfortunately for the purposes of your request, I doubt they will choose to go backwards in their development process.
Just had a team 3 vs 1 a guardian that lasted 3 minutes and put out some crazy damage. They will definitely see some competitive play if they arn’t nerfed.
What Guardian build can handle a long 3v1, while doing insane damage, if the opponents aren’t devoid of skill? Honestly, the players would have to be so weak they couldn’t 2v1 a person not wearing an amulet.
Wait, how does 1 guardian ripping “newbs” put it at number 3, hah? Do you even know the build?
Guardian as a whole will find a new role in some edge of the meta. There’s nothing wrong with that. I certainly hope it does for those who stick around! It’ll probably be fun. Someone may even pioneer a really awesome new thread of thought that brings me back in another season. That’s a best case scenario.
However, some of us have always REALLY enjoyed the Guardian’s ability to be a defensive anchor of a team. We’re understandably upset. ANET’s consistent approach to balance was to just delete amulets at a time. It’s not a great approach. Now, the most recent deletion finally cut out the heart of an entire preferred set of Guardian builds. No one was running to the hills begging for a nerf to these Guardians. Some people even argued these builds and the general play-style were trashy—belonged on the bottom rung. This isn’t D/D eles we’re talking about here.
Morever, I don’t need to see a hundred “L2P” posts. You’re just wrong and you never make a sound argument. You can’t tell someone they are incorrect when a personal preference that has existed for years has been shunted from the game. Furthermore, every time I make a well-reasoned response why the author is unqualified to make such a statement or the argument is invalid, I’m the one who gets moderated. Hooray for shady forum policies.
This patch has not only made the game less enjoyable, it’s also apparently pointless to even discuss it.

As I posted in the Guardian thread, I am unfortunately done because this is clearly the development path they have chosen for trying to balance PvP. It’s either lazy or it is a signal they honestly do not want players who enjoy playing GW2 the way I have enjoyed playing it.
If that’s the case, oh well. It was an awesome few years.
AFK jackholes in the upper tiers aside, I had a blast soloing to Legend division as a Guardian. I didn’t use meta battle, but I developed my own “bunker” type build that required clerics and cruised to a glorious enjoyable & successful season. I loved the experience so much that I have used this off-season to make significant strides on finally crafting the Moot—my first legendary. I have been playing GW2 about as long as humanly possible, so for me to be that re-energized by one PvP season says something!
I had zero expectation they would remove clerics and thrash the build. How have I responded? I pre-ordered WoW: Legion, have PL’d three toons to 100 and I’m anxious waiting RBGs in a game I previously trashed on a regular basis.
I feel completely dirty and I desperately cling to hope I’ll find a new build of something that breaks my resentment over this development cycle. GW2 is way too awesome of a game to leave me disappointed to the extent I spend hundreds of dollars to be able to play a different game—especially in the wake of some actual content delivery in GW2.
TLDR: I am leaving my second favorite game all-time for freaking WoW. Totally sucks.
Honestly, most truly bad people seem to be able to get to about Diamond. One gets his/her fair share of games with & without these players. What really hurts is the rampant AFKing/DGAF attitude in Legend division. It’s pretty much a punishment to move beyond Diamond. Your queue times increase and matches are quite awful the majority of the time.
The more I see people say this, the more I’d love for rank-stripping to be a consequence of being reported for AFKing in ranked. Good times.
That post is literally not related. Thanks for the bump.
The legends that remain just afk so good luck winning that match once the queue pops.
(edited by Permafrost.2695)
People will AFK if they feel the match is unwinnable, there isn’t much you can do against human nature. Some form of punishment might work, or it might scare them off pvp if it’s too harsh.
Flat out wrong. I just posted because this game is getting A-W-F-U-L and wrought with those who AFK immediately.
Once again, we have individual players who get reported multiple times hours apart today, yesterday, last week and nothing is done. I’m not even talking about people “no use in not afking because we can’t save a pip mode.” I’m talking people running out to the map, sitting and just afking. I know you wanted to move the entire Dev team to raids, but keeping at least one person watching reports would be cool.
This PvP season has been a blast. I made a whole thread on it. Today, even with logging to take breaks for hours at a time, I’m running into the same 4 people afking. If I’m going to lose, at least make it fun.
My guess is that Tage would disagree.
I’m not one to usually say this, but wow that’s a salty post. If you react that way, then PvP is definitely not the game mode for you.
I think Guardian still rocks. People are just playing the class incorrectly. Everything else you know I agree with ya man!
TLDR: Anet—Please keep up the awesome work in honing the system, but also remember to give people continued rewards for playing!
First off, kudos for the continued tweaks to match-making, pip exchange and tiers. Progress feels natural and deserved. The vast majority of the time teams feel even. I can point to my own strong play as a tipping point for success. On the other hand, I can also point to my own mechanical or strategical errors as the reason(s) for my team’s failure. The first two seasons were wrought with those “on tilt” games where my team was either absurdly dominant or inferior to the opposition. Some games I could have been legit brain-dead and, depending on the match-up, I was predestined to win or lose no matter what. Very welcome improvements overall!
However, this season has literally no reason to play except “for fun.” Which I get— totally cool. But other games can be played for “fun” and have some carrot as well. I will be totally honest: I have played a TON of Paragon during Season three. There’s just far more for me to earn & learn there compared to GW2, which I vastly prefer in both complete game and genre. For a hardcore player like myself, I’ve only played 90 games the past two plus months. An average of a game and a half (20 minutes?) a day is incredibly low. Why? Welp, I crafted my legendary wings last season and “ ______ Legend” title advancement just doesn’t do it for me. With a 70% win rate I’m into Diamond no problem but what reason do I really care if I make it to legend a third time?
If I feel this way I’m guessing others must as well. That means that there’s likely a number of people playing less or not at all. That’s not good for the health of the community.
70% win-rate in season 3 only playing Guardian. Class is just fine; there’s just honestly a lot of less skilled people who got used to the DH being OP.
Oh I do remember those glory days, but in all honesty I don’t find the current meta nearly as fun as the climate of said glory days. So I’m in need of a little motivation
Up front: Definitely not a brag or complaint thread—it’s a genuine inquiry.
I don’t play on a team, so I solo ranked queue. Like MANY people, I got legend in the first two seasons. I unlocked all the achievements and crafted my backpiece.
In my situation, is there anything to achieve specific to season 3? Again, since I don’t play on a team, there’s nothing for me in the guild leaderboard. I’m looking to find out if there’s any new “carrots” for players at the micro-level.
I think they’re disappointing in general:

I was in MMRhell last weekend, started a big thread about it. I actually logged off for 48 hours then went on a tear. I guess the best I can say is MMRhell legit exists and when you see the same awful people, block them so you can track them and if they stay on then log off yourself. Check in later and catch a new batch of people in your MMR range. It’ll go MUCH, MUCH better for you.
……I did Legend completely solo….
Why such weak particle effects/trail/no sound? Legendary weapons get them, but no love for the PvP crowd? Not that I need it all the time, but if the PvEers get to whip their trail everywhere they go, I’d love to as well <3
1) You play trash build res druid is a bad build. especially vs good players that can and will counter you if they have the right cool-downs
This alone proves you have no clue how PvP works as you don’t have any grasp on Druid builds, let alone how overpowered SnR is in its current form.
As for using the term ELOHELL I know that’s not the technical term here, but that’s the standard nomenclature for this issue. And again, look at my screenshot. How many of those games even look remotely competitive? Even if I was worst player on the planet or the best player on the planet you cannot make up getting matched with and against those players. It is hilarious.
The only reason I have the one win is because I saved 8 people from mid via Search and Rescue. Take away those 40 points and I’m dying. I was a Legend last year via complete solo queue.
1) Classes played – Druid, Rev, Guard
2) Timezone and Region (Na, Eu, etc) – NA EST Primetime
3) Experience metric (Rank, games played, etc) – Legend last season (solo’d past Sapph)
4) Available hours – Usually after 9pm
Negative. very blatant three queue in which the necro blinks all over the map. I’d post the names but good lord knows My thread would be deleted and I’d get banned from the forums for shaming.
Between the AFKs and hacking this season is a major bummer. I can’t complain about MMR, meta, etc. because I so rarely see a competitive game.
I’m pretty disappointed. I haven’t seen this kinda trash since ArcheAge
Well I might as join the folks not doing anything. Here’s my third game of the day currently in progress.
Now I’m slightly going crazy. very next game a guy is afk from start and eventually leaves. But of course he comes back at 250-35.
How am I supposed to enjoy this at all?
Apparently I was wrong. Woke up and first game at 7am. Guy afk’d 20 seconds in because we didn’t help him on creep.
…yep….
Cause it’s pretty out of control in EST primetime. I know a lot of gloom and doomers were banging the drum before the season and I laughed. For once, they may have actually UNDER estimated it.
Whether it’s a win or a loss, the majority of the games turn into one team frolicking around the map
1 out of my last 10 games was compeititve.
Multiple times tonight, this exact same kid. Doesn’t matter if it is a close game or not.
In the NA legendary division, there’s the same people who go AFK/log-out consistently. On my team or the opponent, I watch the same names do it. Yet, I see these same people day after day enjoying a consequence-free environment to scream obscenities and then promptly handicap a side. Has anyone actually been subject to anything more than a 5 minute slap on the wrist?
I did it essentially solo (sapphire on). I actually agree; Ruby was a nightmare of terrible players but once I got to diamond it was a breeze. Took me 3 days, playing fairly casually.
Nonstop for me this morning. I just played last night with no issues…

Anyone else getting it this morning?
It baffles me that you didn’t build this into your algorithm. If people want to go to the effort to abuse this and try to win game after game 4v5 or try to throw a game because they are afraid to lose to the other team then whatever. That’s trash and it’s not like you don’t have tons of people already scamming the system. But to punish 4v5 is a joke.
Nearlight, what’s the build that you find superior? If you want it to remain on the DL to avoid the massive nerf-bat rangers have seen as of late, feel free to PM me.
I’m seeing many, many posts of people complaining about Druid being OP. As a long time support/bunker player, I have experimented with many Druid builds. There’s many things I’d criticize about the class. Ultimately, the lack of condi clears and reliable stability compared to a Guardian makes it feel vastly inferior.
Then again, after thousands of hours on Guardian I’m certainly predisposed both in muscle memory and personal affection to prefer Guardian.
I know we’re so early in the meta, but is there a specific build that is drawing folks’ ire? If not, is there a relative build? I ask, because if I’m judging based on what I see on the forums and Meta Battle, Druid seems very weak to me.
Maybe I’m slight sensitive because I dislike the stealth mechanic in all MMOs period, but it feels like games are non-stop stealthfests.
Unfortunately, Wolf, I guess I should have been VERY clear. I play a bunker. That was my score. And again I said I know low score means nothing. But with me bunking, that is VERY telling.
So I continue to see ridiculous match-ups. For example, my current loss streak is entirely on one individual poor player and/or troll. I keep queuing solo and he’s on my team. I know score doesn’t mean skill, but, uh, just look at this last game. How does this happen?
Weekend is over. 7 losses in a row. Most recent game I was put on a team of solos vs. a pre-made 4-man. 3 of the 4 people on my team are on my block list. This just feels like an outright troll.
Thankfully, the API release allows me to see my last 20 games so I know I am not talking out of my butt. It’s flat out unacceptable. Crazy amounts unpunished D/Cs & ragequits, teams where 4/5 of us outscore the other team yet the friendlies don’t actually understand the game so our team gets crushed. I’m not saying I’m the world’s best—not in the slightest—but unless I group with a team it feels pointless to play based on what I’ve been given this week.
I guess, bottom line, my MMR should at least be high enough that I get people who understand the game.
Actually, after an excessive number of additional 4-player DCs I REALLY want to see the stats.
I’ve had a hilarious mix tonight. All solo queues and I’m very curious about the stats and MMR’s. It’s been mostly, not all, but mostly matches of fun ineptitude. Best match I’ve had since 8:30 est was to be the 5th on a 4-queue vs. a 4 ele + 1 guard full five.
I’m not saying I haven’t occasionally won a game here and there, and I’m also not saying I haven’t seen a few 4-drop bug fiestas, but I’m not sure I’ve ever been more curious to see the background on which people I’ve been paired.
Just a great mix of the ok, bad and ugly of solo queing in ranked. Those are the stats I want to see.
