Classes with good defense can run zerker easily, having no trouble on my necro, warrior or ranger. If you’re squishy… time to take a look at the other 192678263stat combinations and find one that works for you. My soldier/ cele dagger/focus ele is frickin immortal.
People spend 3 years in a game where the PvE is so faceroll easy that they forget that there are other ways to play than glass cannon.
I love it too, i’m having heaps of fun. Everything in the HoT maps is a vast improvement from the base game imo. The areas are gorgeous and interesting, the events are fun, the story is good(it’s just in another legue compared to the orignal personal story, jesus christ that was bad) and most of all, you can’t just sit on your keyboard and win anymore.
Hell in base tyria i can go afk in a spot with my ranger and the pet will kill mobs for me
I actually like the effort involved and the challange of hero points. Each unlock feels special.
But then again i actually really enjoy the PvE and don’t really feel the need to have everything unlocked, like right now, so i just play like i normally would and unlock it as i go. Don’t get why people need to rush content.
Tho i get why WwW’ers are kittened off.
Yeah i enjoyed that boss a lot, really felt like i earned that hero point. For anyone having trouble: the boss does an attack that gives you a debuff that makes you heal him when you attack. If you get hit, kite!
While getting enough people together to do certain hero points is a bit of a drag i really like that there’s some difficult stuff out there that you simply can’t do on your own, and when you finally do it really feels like you’ve earned it.
I love ’em!
I don’t want it later! I want it NOW! NOW NOW NOW NOW! If i can’t have it now i’m going to stop breathing! inhales loudly
I always use it for regular open world stuff. With say Lichform you can get a damage boost once every 2min and you’ll rarely actually need to use it, with Flesh golem you’ll have a constant damage boost, meat shield and knock down for whatever you’re doing.
The problem with the “gravedigger in chaos” situation is while, yes, it’s harder to see, we have no way to have stability while casting it (unless an ally buffs us with it) and in the middle of a teamfight you’re very likely to get CCed out of a cast that long.
I dunno, I just can’t think of any weapon/profession combination where the attacks have landed, for me, as infrequently as they have on a GS Necro.
Chilled to the Bone gives you 10s of stab
Honestly, I’m thinking blood/death/reaper minion bunker. I play mm now, but I think a greatsword with aoe would add quite a lot to it. Plus, the siphon from all the minions going through deathshroud. I mean, hey, they want us to be unstoppable monsters, right? I think I’ll take them up on that offer
After running diffirent power and condi setups over the weekend i started thinking about the same thing, but i figured GS is just too kitten slow and GD would hit like a wet noodle so i ended up using this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNArYWnc0AdbiN1Ae1As3glpBbqldBqASDgCQAI+DeCbhA-TphBABAcEAOrMgGHCgc2fg5TAQEPAAA
Figured the recieving boons would be too unreliable for blighter’s boon so decieded to go for Deathly Chill and it would probably be better to go with WH but man was playing it a blast. Ended up being one of my favorites.
It’s good if you can set up spikes for grave digger with GS#5, DS#5, CttB,Spectral Grasp and Fear also the GS#4 is pretty neat. But yeah the auto attack can be a pain to land if they aren’t already crippled.
Alternativley, bring a Scrapper buddy! Good times will be had

The Druid is far too isolated from the rest of the ranger. There’s just not any synergy there with existing traits or weapons.
I did enjoy healing in PvP tho.
It’s amazing! It blows my mind how many builds work with it, power, tanky, condi, MM it fits perfectly in with the rest of the Necro.
Right now i’m using a MM build that didn’t even think would work but it’s fun as hell and kicking kitten .
So i was thinking of ways the necro could offer some unique form of support for other players, and to get me going i asked myself what made the necro stand out. One of those things is being able to absorb a lot of damage through death shroud, but how could that help your team members?
Well, acouple of years ago i played a pvp mmo called Warhammer Online, for those unfamiliar it was a trinity MMO that played very similar to WwW where the tank archetype’s chief role was to prevent or reduce the incoming damage to allies. One tool to do that was a universal ability called “Guard” where the tank could place this on squishy team members re-directing 50% of the damage to them allowing classes too squishy to survive the frontlines to well.. do just that.
I don’t know GW2’s mechanics well enough to know if this is even possible, but i think it would be a nice addition that builds on the necro’s class mechanic and strength while providing a new niche for the necro in the new pve where you can’t just dodge or negatate every harmful ability. Allowing classes like Eles or Thieves to stay zerker and melee when they otherwise couldn’t.
A concern ofcourse is that it would just be a suicide button so the extra incoming damage would have to be mitigated by the necro’s stats rather than the squishy guardee. Or that it just wouldn’t be needed, or on the flipside be too powerful with additional support.
I’m still curious what people think of this, especially PvP and WwW vets on how it could work in those game modes.
Thoughts? Additions? New ideas? Kick kitten cookie recepies?
@Petrol it is only 8s projectile absorb with poison cloud but still reflect > absorb so either there r not many projectiles then its not worth running reaper for it or if u got alot projectiles a class with more reflects mesmer/guard is better.
Well ofcourse they are better, but it’s still useful tool the Reaper brings to the table among other things.
If projectiles are an issue it’s still something worth using between reflect cooldowns, just because it’s not the best doesn’t mean it isn’t good.
You can also add 12seconds of projectile destruction every 30(or 20) seconds to that list thanks to the poison cloud changes.
But i think it will all come down to how useful our sustain is. If we can keep doing damage while others can not, or if certain fights needs someone to take a lot of punishment the necro is a good pick.
Also if the short and static PvE fights where everyone can pretty much just stand still and do their rotations are a thing of the past, theoretical dps against against dummies doesn’t become very useful since they won’t reflect what will happen in a real scenario and necros ability to put out a decent amount of reliable damage becomes more valuable.
It was live you numbskull.
1: Reaper – Unmitigated kittenery, just pure fun.
2: Druid – Very interesting, i can’t wait to try it as a pure support char and a kiter
3: Herald – Can’t really imagine the Rev without it, really enjoyed microing resources
4: Scrapper – Some unique new stuff! Seems like fun
5: Berserker – Really like the fast pace
6: Chronomancer – Don’t really play Mesmer but it seems very powerful
7: Daredevil – It was fun and the concept is cool but i think it needs a lot of polish
8: Dragonhunter – When i tried this i asked myself, what the hell is this for? What is it’s purpose and how does it fit in with the rest of the Guardian? Beyond giving the class a bow and another ranged option just because, i couldn’t come up with an awnser.
9: Tempest – Plays like a regular ele while putting limitations on the mechanic that make ele’s fun and interesting. No thank you…
But wait! There’s more! But we have to wait till tuesday. Though honestly i’m happy with the poison cloud change, that skill really needed some love.

That nerf was a looooong time coming. It was completely broken
Who is this “everyone”? Are you hearing voices OP?
I think it’s awesome and the twitch stream was going nuts. “Everyone” loved it.
Rejoice for what? Being shafted to a healing class?
I really really HATE that type of play-style..
Extremely disappointed..
This is not the reason I play ranger…
But the Druid also has some really potent tools to let you kite and disengage. Maybe it’s not a direct archer buff but there’s definently something there for a ranged role.
Also did you see the pets!? Holy kittennuggets!
Anyway, elite specs never were intended to be a direct boost or upgrade, it’s a side grade where you give up a trait line to change the base classes place style and cover a weakness. Like say, support in the case of ranger.
(edited by Petrol.9086)
What Necros can do is corrupts boons, they have inherent tankyness, apply de-buffs like weakness, vulnerability, blind and now chill very well. Also they can pull downed party members from certain death with transfusion which has saved my party many times.
But most of the former is of very little value in the current state of PvE. They keep promising that will change with HoT but we’ll just have to wait and see i guess.
I’m not holding my breath but i’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
I think this is cool as kitten. Sylvari are dragon minions, they should get a unique experience and i was really happy to see during the beta weekend that not only do you understand Mordremoth but NPC’s openly distrust you and things play out a little diffirently.
You can keep acting like a spoiled brat and throw your toys out of the pram because someone gets something you don’t, but it’s not going to change.
Well the trade of for losing range is hitting like a truck. If we had DS as well it would be difficult or just plain ineffective to kite us and that is our weakness, that’s what makes it balanced.
It’s a great name, scrapper as in someone who engages in scraps/melee fights or salvages scrap metal. Fits perfectly.
HoT will guarantee that at least one more ranger is converted to full-time necromancer.

Would be nice if we had a trait that allowed us to reverse the effect on Wurm. I.e, you teleport and spawn a wurm where you land instead of destroying it.
Only thing wrong with Focus is that you need to be in melee to get all the bounces of, but when you do it hits hard and has a low cd. Hands down my favorite off-hand in PvE
Mobs with classes and skill sets, like GW. They heal, use buffs, debuffs, defensive and offensive skills aswell as dodge similar to how a player would.
Would make PvE alot more interesting and make all those PvP “only” talents more useful.
Only thing that bothers me is that you get kicked so quickly and barely have any time to look over your scores and trophies.
If you miss the entire thing because you have to keep fighting even tho the match is OVER and it’s completely pointless, well.. that’s your fault for being a kitten.
Almost like Robert was on a vacation during LABOR day.
If you did not realize that, during a national holiday people do like to work. In any case, there having a centralize location is far too late. All robert is going to do is give us a summary of future changes.
Not everyone is from ‘murica ya know. Also isn’t Labor day kind of an ironic name for a holiday? Sounds like you should be working extra..
Since when was ignorance consider an excuse? If you are dealing with a foreign company it does help to know a little something about it.
Second, it is only ironic to you because you don’t know the meaning of ironic. It is labor day because it celebrates workers. But like I said, you don’t know the meaning of ironic.
Wow.. who took a wiz in your cornflakes this morning Mr. Serious McOversensitive?
Personally i hope we get to play as Mordrem and invade LA.
kitten YOU AMBIENT NPC’S THAT STAND TOO CLOSE TO THE BANK!

I had an absolute blast playing the Reaper and miss it already, i never had a “main” and usually just switch between my necro, ranger, ele and guard but Reaper completely changed that.
Going back to regular necro, it just feels incomplete now.
I had absolutely no more trouble staying alive with GS than any other weapon in either PvE or PvP. We have blind on GS4 and RS for tankyness and stab.
The GS is a high risk high reward weapon, if the stikes were always easy to land and it hit as hard as it they do it would just be OP, i think it needs the weakness of slow predictable strikes to make up for the meaty hits not only for balance but also to make it interesting. If you don’t have to worry about your surroundings and getting that 8 sec CD it’s literally just spamming 2.
And Executionors scythe can hit frickin hard if their HP is low, i think my max hit in PvE was 14k and considering it stuns AND chills i think it’s perfectly fine as is, more than fine i think it’s awesome.
I tried a similar build and call it my Pied Piper build. It’s hilarious how large your rat army gets after awhile, it’s not nearly as good as a regular spite build but it’s good for kittens and giggles in open world.
Personally i went with “Your Soul Is Mine!” since i used the shout cd trait so i could spam more minions.
During Mordrem invasions hitting 5 targets is easy which makes it pretty much always ready when you need it.
I love using it, pull, vuln, blind aoe and not to mention grave digger, it’s great as a secondary weapon.
Hands down Roxy’s quiver! I need it for my ranger.
I’ve encountered very little ranger/necro hate recently. But rangers generally have a bad rap because of Bearbows. You know the type. Uses nothing but longbow with a bear pet, stays far away from the group not benefiting from buffs and worst of all spams point blank shot off cool down driving everyone else crazy.
And honestly, even as a ranger, i can’t stand them either. And i’m easy going, i say come in whatever build you want as long as it contributes to the group in someway.
Bearbows just don’t. They actually make the run unplesant at worst because of their constant knockback spam.
I love the sound of the skill, but yes it needs to apply instantly. Not only would it feel more responsive as a defensive skill but also you wouldn’t haveto deal with the wonky AI.
Being under pressure and using the skill only to have them stand there like morons, as minions tend to do, would probably break a few keyboards.
It’s intentional and it’s not only to add flavor. It’s to let you know what buffs you and other characters are getting without having to keep an eye on a buff bar. Like when your character says “swiftly” it just got swiftnes, “armored up” – protection “anger rising”- fury etc etc
does anyone actually use focus?
if yes, wvw roaming or pvp or pve?
It’s my favorite offhand in PvE. 4 is easy to bounce there if you just cast it at point blank range(where i want to be anyway) and gives a quick 12 vuln stacks. Is niiice..
So now that we’ve seen the napkin math being an approx 11% difference, let’s not forget what that 11% really means in a group setting. You’ve got 5 other allies reach doing their own ~10k dps. Literally any ally would just need to auto attack once to make up the lost damage.
Moral of the story, unless you’re going for record runs, GS vs Sword is negligible. Ultimately, unless you’re going for record runs, record run builds aren’t necessary, but that’s a different discussion entirely.
11% if you are running double GS and swapping to it for furious grip to proc perma fury, remoresless and to score quickdraw cd’s. The vast majority of rangers running a ranged weaponswap and will be much more than 11% behind.
There are great reasons to run GS. Damage is not one of them.
That’s just not true, Two Hand traning procs fury/remorseless and his calculations were based on Maul with a 4 second cooldown. I’m also not entierly conviced Swoop is a dps loss since it hits instantly for substatial dammage on a short cooldown.
Don’t get me wrong, Sword is still the best damage option but the differance really isn’t that substantial thanks to the buffs to two hand training and it’s synergy with remorseless.
And now we get minions that tank for you. I’m happy ^.^
What you talking about Willis?
Look at Robert Geesus’s Reaper Changes from beta feedback thread thats stickied above. Now “Rise!” is instant cast, unblockable, and instead of jagged horror’s, it now summons shambling horrors, which take 50% of the damage you receive to themselves, much like the mesmer skill, illusionary defender.
As for what a shambling horror is, its this:
Sweet googly moogly, that’s a good kitten change!
You need to add Swoop and maybe even Hilt Bash(Since it increases your pet’s next attack by 50%) to the GS calculation if you want to compare them fairly.
Also i find it odd that Path of Scars has higher dps than Maul when the latter hits about as hard but recharges three times as fast with two hand training.
Another wildcard there is how often Path of Scars bugs out and doesen’t return
(edited by Petrol.9086)
I think it would be really cool if Rise actually raised the dead. Like say you have a bunch of corpses around you, you could press “Rise!” and it would summon 1-5 zombies depending on the cretures killed. They’ve already got undead models for every race and then some, should a corresponding model be missing it could just summon one of those spirit things.
C’mon Anet! We’re Necromancers! Give us some zombies!

Man tears.
Trigger warning.
I wanna be so upset by it that I can’t play for a week.
When you kill a super important friend/ally who’s been around a long time, you had better be ready to make somebody feel like they just lost a loved one. You gotta make us watch them die, or even we need to see their final moments from their perspective. It needs to light our blood on fire and keep us up obsessing for 48 hours….
Easy there Mr.Martin…
You can do whatever you want, your dps will be much more less with gs. In team you have 100% fury uptime.
You can go with anything but you will lose 20-50% dps
20-50% less eh? That’s a pretty huge gap. Where have you gotten these numbers?
