As to the Elite Achievements section, this quote is troubling: " He gave examples like keeping all NPCs alive throughout the encounter or never falling to the boss." Never letting NPCs die? When has that ever worked in an MMO to the point that it was a fun thing to do? I am not talking about it mechanically working. I am talking about players being super stoked to do an escort mission and really enjoying it. Keeping NPCs alive has always been a chore in MMOs. Can we please do away with this notion that players find it enjoyable?
“Elite” achievement. Get good. Besides, most GW2 NPCs are pretty boss, so it shouldn’t be that hard. I remember when Teq was first updated, we used to kite the champs attacking the turrets to Rox and watch her kick kitten . She’d go all Mama Bear mode on them.
I did say, “When has it ever been fun?” and “I am not talking about it mechanically working…”. The point was, when has that ever been something players look forward to? Do you ever hear a player say, “Boy oh boy, that escort mission was a real hootenanny!”
I like escort missions. I’m sure some other people do as well. I’m also sure some people hate them. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad design.

WELL KITTEN ME I WAS WRONG.
Conditions are never the “wrong build”, one condition user in a group is awesome for dungeons and conditions are great in solo PvE. The biggest issue is zerg PvE and multiple condition users in a group.
Great in solo PvE, not so great in group dungeons. Other party members are passively applying their own so you lose a lot of your damage, plus your conditions don’t scale with vulnerability or damage modifiers, so in an ideal situation you’ll cap out at like 6,000DPS while direct damage players will cap out at 11,000 – 13,000DPS.
It is a technical flaw that Anet has not been able to fix. Condition users were designed to be viable in ALL content, and they would be if the computational flaw can be fixed and the cap moved to a personal one instead of a group one.
And conditions are viable in all content, just not optimal.
As I understand – you think that only viable builds for PvE in grp(dungeons\FoTM etc.) is power based(mostly berserk) and all others wrong builds…but If some ppl wants that condi builds can make such damage in PvE like power builds – it is bad?
I want condition builds to be on par with direct damage for group content, but it’s never going to happen because of technical limitations of condition/boon stacking.
To reiterate: any build is viable, but only some are optimal. People complain builds X, Y and Z aren’t viable, but you can link me literally the stupidest build possible and I’d be able to call it viable.
Exactly. Totally agree with you. The reason why condis are limited is because of server loads. They tried to remove the cap and it crashed the server.
The “Play how I want” crowd doesn’t seem to understand that this game IS play how you want. But that doesn’t mean every playstyle is the most efficient. You can run conditions in PvE. You can go full Cleric and be a “healer”. Will it get the job done? Sure. Will it be the best way? No. But that’s the price you pay for playing how you want.
I run a meta zerker Staff Ele in PvE most of the time. Sometimes I wanna see my Incinerator, so I pull out my D/D WvW build. Can I still get things done? Of course. Not as fast/efficient as a glassy staff build, but I’m playing how I want. Would I run a dungeon with my D/D gear? Probably, but definitely not in a group that asked for a more DPS build.
Nothing wrong with playing how you want, it works. But that doesn’t mean you can make other people play with you. Cause they don’t want to. Can’t they play how they want as well?
Ummm this is a LS patch… there will be no features introduced in this patch.
Features come in Feature patches… hence the name…
So if you are expecting anything that isn’t story, events and maps then you have the wrong expectations.
uninstall.exe for me
A shame, this game had so much potential. Combat system is fun, polished graphics, great artstyle, fun town items. Just needed a team that cared about gameplay behind it, and not just story and gem store items
LOL. It’s a story patch, and you expect a feature patch? That’s like opening a ASOFAI book and asking for Harry Potter.
Mail me your gold and stuff before you uninstall. That’s for everyone. If you’re quitting, I’ll hold onto your stuff for safekeeping. Much better than those dirty bankers. I’ll put it to good use.
I love how everyone thinks that the Maguma Jungle is a desert. No, the Crystal Desert is a desert. Maguma is a jungle and canyon region. Think the Amazon with the Grand Canyon in the middle of it.
And I have to agree with everyone saying no new zone tomorrow. I think we’ll get a temp mini-dungeon that is the Gates of Maguma and allows us access to Maguma later down the road.
Have you been following the lore? It’s not a jungle anymore. It’s a wasteland now. We’ve been told that it has mysteriously dried up. Hence the title, Maguuma Wastes.
I think it’s a pretty good sign for a game when picky people are complaining about the wording. “Gates” doesn’t necessarily mean a zone gate. It’s more of metaphor here.
But whatever, expect and hate all you want. Just letting you know, it shouldn’t be a big surprise if there is no new zone tomorrow. Just remember if this makes you quit, mail me your gold and stuff.
First off, I wanna say I’m really excited for tomorrow. I’m not here to bash the season or anything. I just would like to point out that it wouldn’t make sense for a new zone tomorrow. A new zone would be more likely in two weeks, the “next episode”.
Why? They need to set up the story first. Most of the people that are excited already know that it has something to do with Brisban Wildlands. But, what about the rest of the player base? Not everyone is in Brisban looking for little hints or stuff. They need a way to bring and draw people to the zone first.
While a new zone right away would be awesome, jumping the gun right away isn’t always the best. There’s a lot of hype, which is good, but too much can be bad, especially with big expectations.
Also, this has been said before, but no hearts. Don’t expect hearts. They were only added because people asked for them at the last minute (just like the AI nerf long ago, but that’s another topic). And ANet confirmed no more hearts.
With that being said, still expect a lot of content tomorrow. Finish mapping Brisban if you haven’t yet. Less than 20-32 hours left! And don’t forget to spend your festival tokens.
That’s way too far north. Magus Falls has to be in there. And that circular area (where you think a dungeon might be) should all be in one zone, no reason to split up Dry Top.
Key to fighting any warrior with healing signet is to remember that they have no burst heal. Once you wear them down, they won’t be able to heal back up. So instead of going for one big burst, separate them so you can keep pressure up. Then once you get them low, try to finish it.
And dodge a lot. Evasive Arcana in Air gives a blind, which is like the warrior’s bane.
There’s a reason for not participating in the pre events. You don’t want too many people there to scale up the event, like the gathering pre for Shatterer. Nothing worse than soloing it, getting it 90% done, and some donkey comes through and scales it up so you have wait longer.
However, people that leech at the actual final big event, yeah they suck.
To start this off, I’d like to say that I think the classes are pretty balanced. Considering that there’s almost a thread for every profession crying nerf, I think we’re pretty good. I see “warrior too OP atm”, “stealth broken”, “ele/engi too good”, etc.
I’d like to beat a dead horse and talk about Conquest (again). Now, conquest isn’t a bad mode. It’s well designed (for the most part), especially for a 5v5. I play Dota and some LoL and HoN on the side, so I can relate to the eSports aspect. I think it’s great. Just my opinion. That’s not the focus of this discussion.
The problem lies with the scoring system. Right now, we have a “bunker/decap” meta. Meaning that the strongest builds are those that focus on surviving and forcing your opponent off of the capture point. Nothing wrong with that playstyle, but it’s too rewarding with the current scoring system.
With the current scoring system, staying on a point for 10+ seconds gives now points than killing your opponent. So it’s better to tickle your opponent and survive than to outright kill them. This leads to the “passive meta” that a lot of people don’t enjoy. It’s not fast-paced action that you’d expect with GW2 unique combat.
The solution? Simply increase the point bounty for killing an opponent based on how long they’ve been alive.
That bunker’s been holding that point for a minute and has earned his team 50+ points? Get your team together, and beat the crap outta him for 60 (or whatever number) points. Easy. What do you guys think?
And let’s not bring Skyhammer into this discussion. IMO Skyhammer is a good map, but not for Conquest.
What’s the rest of your build? Without knowing, I’d say Unbound Spirits is a must if you’re using spirits. I’d only take Keen edge if you were using SotF, which doesn’t make sense for a condi build.
Plus that spirit is gonna help your team more if it can move. Extra bleeds from sharpening stone won’t do a thing for your team.
I highly disagree. Please see channel for details.
It all comes down to preference. And the nice thing about sPvP is you can switch anytime. Power sniper ranger is fun, but my personal playstyle favors traps better. Using shortbow & sword/dagger, kiting around while my pet is on their heels, that’s how I like to play.
Both are viable. Comes down to what you’re better at.
To add to this, some people like the active playstyle of power. Hiding behind your passive damage requires a much lower skill floor and just isn’t as fun. I get why people run conditions; it’s hard to be a successful power ranger. When you do figure it out though, it’s fun as hell.
My playstyle isn’t passive. Sword itself requires an active playstyle. Combine that with micromanaging your pet, it’s far from passive.

No, it doesn’t. Only race/sex determines your voice. Class determines what skill-specific lines you have.
They probably sound different because there aren’t variations on any lines. So hearing the aggressive “Attack!” from a ranger will sound different than a warrior’s “On my Mark!” even if it’s the same voice.
People continously speak on balance issues in terms of 1v1 and roaming in WvW. Neither can EVER be balanced. Yes we know PU and Shadow Arts are strong in those situations. But that is literally all those traits are really good for.
Not only that, but they complain about balance issues when it’s just them getting their kitten kicked. People can’t handle losing.
Just AoE the Shadow Refuge. So easy. A smart thief isn’t gonna stand in it that long.
Should we complain about getting hit for 18k from an ele combo? Or 15k from a warrior killshot? Or 12k from an eviscerate? Or 15 stacks of confusion from an engineer? tsk tsk. Your QQ is PooPoo.
how can you compare these things? that Ele combo requires to press 82348762387 buttons. My warrior and my thief require to press 1 button.
Don’t misunderstand, I am perfectly fine having an easy way to collect lootbags, just saying that Elementalist is a world apart in terms of efficiency, therefore it cannot be part of that list.
I think you gotta fix your hotkeys for ele. I only have to press around 14 buttons on mine. :P
I have no idea how more than half the posts in a thread about Reflect mechanics devolved into a warrior discussion, but whatever.
ANet should make this mechanic consistent; reflect should work on any attack that is a projectile, period. No weird exceptions they keep stealth adding every patch, or an enemy that shoots a rock that can be reflected and another that can’t (consistency please), or be affected by stupid artificial limits (like AoEs) some have proposed.
However, it should be balanced of course (Lupi, pre-patch Jungle Wurm, etc.). Why not add an HP bar to reflect skills? Make the wall/dome/whatever scale from a stat (eg. vitality) and have it shatter once its HP is depleted. Similarly, skills like Mirror and Dagger Storm can also have a reflect amount threshold.
Did I just promote a non-zerk stat, oh my.
It’s the forums, what did you expect. Can’t be heard unless you’re crying about something.
I like that idea of giving reflects a limit. Adds more depth. However, I can already see the QQ threads about how it’s a nerf to mechanics and blah blah blah cry whine.
You have too much pride and delusion of grandeur to face the reality. Pets are terrible.
Only if the player is terrible.
It’s not Lone Druid’s Spirit Bear, but pet micromanagement separates the good from the bad. Like I said, just needs a little QoL changes to UI/AI.
It’s a DOT which rarely exceeds 3k dmg as only a fool would not cleanse burning.
a class like guardian can apply burning every 3 hits.
engi’s apply a 6 second burn every 10 seconds.
a class like warrior can apply burning with EVERY SINGLE AUTO ATTACK.
so which class are you playing that has condi-removal on a 1 second cooldown? What kind of warrior are you playing that has burning on every attack?
Hambow with Stronger Bowstrings. Turns the auto attack into a double projectile finisher and turns the 2 into projectile finishers as well. Yes, that trait turns the Longbow into a combo machine (1 field, 5 finishers).
That’s not burning on every auto attack. And it requires the fire field from the burst, it’s not free.
Amazing what a pile of dirt does. I’m sure people will QQ about it later though.

Ranger.
Bearbow OP.
Staff ele is fine, you need a team to support you. Have a guardian condi cleanse you. Bring a ranger for poison to help you against a bunker. Use a Necro/mesmer for stability rip.
Doesn’t matter what build, an Elementalist shines when there is a team. D/D, D/F, Staff, whatever. You need an organized team.
Remove warrior as well. The only class that can stack all the stats in high amounts and has plenty of condition removal AND can do nice damage AND can take some serious punishment and shrug it off.
I can do that on any class. You know why? Cause I don’t suck.
For Skyhammer, I think they should reduce the respawn time to 5 seconds. It’s already a mess of a map anyway, just make it more fast paced and fun. Or add some stability power ups around the map. Maybe some powerup that shields you from the cannon.
Only 9.5k? Back in the day, we used to eat 18k backstabs. (And then Bull Rush, Frenzy, and 100b that poor thief).
Git gud.
Exactly why do GW2 players dislike the idea of mounts?
Is is because traditional MMOs have them and GW2 must be a special and unique snowflake? That, and they can’t stand the idea of creatures on other creatures.
Plus most players are incapable of reading. You can make a topic about how you DON’T want mounts, and people will still yell at you for bringing it up. They see the word “mount” and go into a rage.
Pets aren’t bad. Only the players. If you can micro your pet, then you’ll have an easier time.
That being said, they could use some improvements. Mainly the UI and AI.
You guys are all missing the point. ANet is supporting the reflects. Just a slight nerf so that some projectiles go through. You STILL HAVE TO SLOT REFLECTS. You just also have to devote some people to clear the eggs that make it through.
You complain about it being too easy and just 1111 spam. Well, here you go. More strategy required.
Not that I’m some kind of mount supporter (yuck! right?), but I’m not sure all these “neigh”-sayers actually read OP’s idea… The game IS designed for weapons, and the only thing I can see about OP’s idea that would be difficult to implement is that mount models and animations might be a little more complex than the ones for regular weapons.
Lol, I was gonna say the same thing. Reading is too hard, please nerf.
Doesn’t matter, best finisher is Rabbit, which requires 0 hours.
Nothing like showing that Dragon/Phoenix rank who’s boss with a bunny.
I hope those warriors trained for Brawler’s Recovery lol.
I don’t have a screen, but I had a game the other night against 5 mesmers, and my team was an ele(me) and 4 thieves. Was pretty funny to watch, cause everyone else was invis and I was just running throwing AoEs everywhere.
I wouldn’t judge the other team before the match starts. It helps to look at their comp and weapon sets so you get an idea of their builds, but don’t assume a decked out char = scrub.
I’ve had plenty of angry people whispering me after I beat them on point telling me to go back to PvE with my “shiny legendary” and “trash title”. Which never made sense, considering that I won.
Believe it or not, there are a lot of people that play and excel at all game modes.
Right, that would work but I’ve noticed that there are -again- few PvP dailies. Do the 50/50 kills, 5/5 events, 15/15 interrupter, etc. work in PvP now? Before, those were all in the PvE category. Getting the monthly completionist would be difficult if not.
Skill point collection would seem like a long trek as well at times since you’re relying on the RNG scrolls from the champ bags.
Not playing Devil’s Advocate here, just curious to know!
Thanks.
Those work in PvP. I specifically go to PvP to get those done. Interrupts, dodges, condi cleanses, etc. Condi application is even easier, just AoE the test golems. You can get dodges done from the dodge trainer too if you wanted. And hot join is the easiest for kills.
The tomes of knowledge you get from reward tracks also help for skill points.
How to implement dueling:
-designate an area of the game for Player vs. Player combat
-give players the option to create their own customized PvP instances
-mission completeNot the same. You can’t use your PvE/WvW gear. If I wanna test my WvW build with my buddy, I can’t. Going into SPvP isn’t the same. The numbers are different. I don’t get why people are against having dueling. Just make it so you can only duel people on your friend list.
I’m on TC; I don’t roleplay, but I don’t mind watching it. You ever see an RP duel? It’s really boring. If only they had a way to actually fight each other instead of doing the in game equivalent of LARPing.
What you’re suggesting is open-world PvP, which is a dead horse that has been beaten to a bloody pulp, so don’t insult my intelligence with nonsense about wanting to test your build with your friend. Yes, the ‘numbers are lower in PvP
, but the gear is balanced in the same manner so the outcome of your ’build testing’ will be fairly reliable.
As for the RPers need open-world PvP to spice up their “boring” playstyle, you said yourself that you’re not an RPer so you don’t have any business making assertions on their behalf. I also think that most of them would be offended at your degrading claims/opinion of their preferred style of play. Surely, when they can’t to truly fight things, they go out to an appropriate location and ‘hunt down the Champion Troll that wrecked their close-friend’s villa’.
In just this same manner, if you want to do battle against other players, you can venture off to one of the SEVERAL designated PvP areas and duke it out till the cow’s come home. Trying to put a silly new spin on a very old (and largely undesired) debate is insincere, and seems even more so when you drag a group of players into the mix to ‘support your cause’ who never asked for any such thing.
Dueling =/= Open world PvP. Why are you so against it? Just don’t take part in it if you don’t want it. It should be an opt-in system that is limited to your friends. Nothing wrong with that.

1. PvP Rank points
2. PvP Wins
3. Monthly completionist (4 dailies basically)
4. Skill point amasser (open champ bags from rewards)
For this month only obviously. Depends on the available achievements.
Not exactly in this order, but for a 1v1 duel in a PvP arena:
1. PU Mesmer
2. P/D condi Thief & S/S+LB condi Warrior
3. Condi/bunkerish Engi/Ranger
4. D/D Ele & MediDPS Guardian & S/D Thief (kind of a Rock Paper Scissors IMO)
5. Good old Skullcrack Warrior
6. Minion Master…?
Whenever those bad players stop sucking and complaining about Teq needing a nerf. There’s a thread almost every week crying that Teq is too hard, aka “I suck kitten, make stuff easier for me so I can keep sucking.”
Not need to be offensive.
Casual players need to leave Teq. as it is.
Hardcore needs to leave Shatterer as it is.Anet should make new content that catter both.
That’s it. No need to useless discussion. And insult trading. And all those things.
It’s not an issue of hardcore vs casual. Bad player =/= casual. Plenty of hardcore players that are bad. And instead of learning the content, they come to the forums to complain and whine.
OP deleted his post, now mine looks dumb.
Remember, if you’re quitting, at least send your gold to me. :P
Never said they were getting rid of it. Season 1 was a test, an experiment. So give them a chance to show what they learned in Season 2.
Or you can just quit playing and leave. Mail me your stuff beforehand though.
1. People that refuse to cooperate, listen, and work together.
2. People that don’t communicate.
3. People that don’t listen to me because “I don’t have enough AP”.
Biggest problem by far is:
4. People that insta-kick my ranger because she has “Bowbear” as her last name. Come on, that’s a very obvious joke.
Just your standard roaming/small havoc group D/D ele, what stats should I aim for? I’ve seen numbers that say 2k power, 2.6k armor, 16k hp, 30% crit, and dump the rest into crit damage/healing power. Is that right?
Right now, with my mix of knights/soldiers/zerk, I have around 2.2k power (with food), 2.5k armor, just under 16k hp, 30% crit chance, and around 180% crit damage, and nothing invested into healing power except from traits in Water.
This is mostly for sPvP, where you’re mostly in combat all the time. You walk off a little cliff and your pet decides to take the scenic route. To an extent, WvW too, but I haven’t really noticed it being a problem, it gets to the point where you’re so far away the pet teleports anyway.
PvE, don’t care, I can drop combat pretty easily and swap.
Who cares about balance, I want my pet to teleport to me instead of walking the long way around when I drop down a couple meters.
I didn’t pick Ranger to babysit a kittened pet, I wanted to be like Lone Druid and his Spirit Bear. Spirit Bear has a return ability in Dota; it doesn’t work if he just took damage, but I think considering how our pets are a bit weaker, it should just return them instantly. I don’t know how many fights I’ve lost in sPvP because my pet was halfway across the map.
I guess if someone thinks that’s not balanced, just make it so pets can’t attack when they’re a certain distance from you. Only if we can instantly return pets of course. Don’t nerf the pets without fixing them.
Another note, when I press F1 on a target that’s too far away, I don’t care. I want my pet to get in range then. In Dota, Spirit Bear is a melee unit; when I send him on a right click on someone, he doesn’t kitten and complain that they’re too far away. He goes until he gets in range. And if he can’t attack cause he’s out of MY range, then he just chases them.
TL:DR : Make our pets like Lone Druid’s Spirit Bear. Or at least not kittened.
Harder content. So people QQ more. I get off to that.
Honestly, more stuff that splits people up into small groups like the Twisted Marionette. Sure, you get stuck with people that are absolutely terrible, but that makes it fun.
Only failure is on your part. There is only one place she can spawn that’s not near a wp, so get there faster. Save that settlement for last so everyone can be there. And then wp if she spawns somewhere else.
Instead of blaming the game, look at yourself. Git gud.
