Consensus on the word "OP"?

OP on the forums basically means “X beat me cause I suck kitten at this game. Nerf X so I can feel better about myself without learning how to play.”

You can continue to nerf “OP” things, but that doesn’t do a thing for stupid entitled players.

Is ranger in a terrible place right now?

All depends on your build. I’d say rangers are in a little better spot now, they’re not locked into just a spirit build. Not like they’re pubstomping every game, but it’s viable. I’ve actually started bringing my ranger into ranked sPvP, and I find it pretty fun.

You see a lot of bad rangers due the influx of PvE players. Turns out, Bearbow doesn’t work in sPvP either. Might work in hotjoin, but that’s hotjoin.

I actually had someone complaining about me tonight in one of my matches, so I think I did something right. My ranger was good enough to make him rage.

Edit: Despite my name, I don’t run bearbow. Anywhere. Though I’ve been kicked instantly from dungeon parties cause of it, so there’s a laugh.

Using full ascended berserker’s, I have around 2400 power, and 220% for crit damage, including traits and all that. Plus 100% crit with fury. My AAs hit for around 1.8k to 2.5k, without any might buffs.

Keep in mind that while those might not be high numbers, Ranger Sword AA is the fastest sword AA chain in the game, so a lot of the DPS comes from the “per second”.

Rifle war /MaceShield vs Elementalist

in Warrior

Posted by: Pibriamal.8719

Pibriamal.8719

Well, keep in mind this is a very odd build, there’s no real synergy…

Anyway, Mace/Shield is used for mainly one thing: stuns. Skullcrack has such a huge wide up, but most people use shield bash to get close and get a small stun before the big 4 second one. So either dodge, or just use a stunbreak.

I don’t see the problem though, he has nothing to follow up the stun. Rifle has Killshot, but it’s pointless since Skullcrack takes adrenaline as well. I don’t understand what’s killing you. The bleeds from rifle? Mace AA is so slow and…

Edit: Oh, is this in WvW? Then he’s probably running Runes of Perplexity plus Distracting Strikes (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Distracting_Strikes) which stack. So the confusion is probably killing you. Every time you use an ability, you take damage. Clear the conditions before you kill yourself.

He has a lot of CC with Skullcrack, Pommel Smash, Shield Bash, Rifle Butt, and probably Stomp/Kick for utilities. And as an Ele, he can probably easily read your actions, so he can interrupt them pretty quickly, stacking a lot of confusion on you.

Same thing here, but I think it’s just a tooltip bug. I’ve used it to break stuns, even when it has the CC cooldown timer.

Fighting Sword Thieves...

Pibriamal.8719

Either load them with conditions, or outplay and spike them with that sweet burst damage. Just takes time and practice, like learning to fight against a mesmer. Gotta have a lot of patience.

It’s always a good idea to roll a class that gives you trouble, so you can see its weaknesses from the inside. A Sword thief usually relies on in-combat mobility and a lot of escapes. But their defenses are poor, so it only takes one mistake for them to lose.

More like:

Warriors – Recently nerfed, still make people cry
Thieves – Also recently nerfed, still make people cry
Mesmers – Actually requires skill to beat
Necromancers – MM with the summoned unit damage bug was dumb, terrormancer is a little over the top, but condi spam is still the meta.
Engineers – LOL, you wanna cap that point? Nope.
Elementalist – Actually viable now, the burst is unbelievably good. Even more fun to play against now, truly a test of 1v1 skill. Dodge their burst, start the countdown in your head. By far my favorite class to 1v1 against.
Ranger – Meh, Spirits are okay. Power/Sniper is hilarious though, not as effective.

Guardian – Forgotten, still bunkering.

If anything, it’s Engis/Necros that need to be taken down a bit, but instead of nerfing, why don’t we buff everyone instead? More fun to one shot each other than to run around smacking them with wet noodles.

I would love to slot Defiant Stance over HS, it’s just not as effective though. It’s basically Abbadon ult from Dota, so I think it should be insta-cast and break stuns, but it should give a very big visual indicator, like the warrior glows bright blue or something. This way you use it actively to absorb a big hit coming your way, and then you can punish scrubs that leave auto attack on.

Actually, Abbadon still has that stupid autocast feature (so many times where a creep procced it) so I guess more like Accursed from HoN…

I think what OP is suggesting is that there should be more activity and give and take for some of the warrior abilities.

I wish that the I vulnerabilities they had gave some drawbacks, kind of like how rangers (I think) have quickness but take 50% more damage during that period. Just something to make it require a little more thought, I think, would be a positive.

Actually, that IS a warrior skill. Frenzy = quickness with 25% extra damage taken. The Ranger one, is quickness with 50% less health healed during the duration.

Just because warrior is an “easier” class to play, doesn’t mean that it should be weaker by nature. Making something weaker because it has a lower skill cap isn’t balance.

Level Scaling Issue in PvE Maps?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pibriamal.8719

Pibriamal.8719

The patch notes clearly said that lower level creatures were rescaled. Newer characters get traits much later, so this is meant to balance it.

Works fine for me, I’d rather one shot trash mobs than waste time fighting them if I’m running through a map for completion. People complained about the zerker meta in PvE, lowering the health sponge helps that out a bit.

Works on eviscerate, but it has the same problem with quickness and any leap skill, where because it’s faster, you travel less. Sword leap is affected by this too. I do notice a difference in speed, but the distance is nerfed, which I guess balances the trait out. Very nice trait though, I like it a lot.

Testing out a S/S + Axe/Mace in hotjoin, actually kinda throws people off guard. Lacks CC that I’m used to from hammer though. Even without any condi equipment, just the 300 from the trait line gives enough to make the sword conditions tick for a little. General gameplay involves whittling them down to 50%, spike them with a final thrust, and switch to Axe with buffed Sigil of Int for a crit on eviscerate. Double spike. The speed boost on flurry is really nice too, when you have a teammate that can capitalize on that 4 sec immobilize.

Not as effective as hambow, but I wanted to try something different.

Pibriamal.8719

I’m honestly surprised this hasn’t been fixed yet, but with the upcoming “balance” to hammer for warriors, I figure this would be a good time to fix it.

The issue: When casting Earthshaker on uneven terrain (i.e. a slope), you land in the air at the height of the highest point in the aoe. This often results in not hitting or affecting enemies below you.

Expected: Earthshaker lands you on the ground, stunning and damaging enemies in the aoe, no matter the height.

Please don’t turn this into a discussion about warrior balance; we have plenty of other threads for that.

Just gonna put this out there… he’s a mesmer, for all we know he was just sitting in the background casting his illusions on us and making us fight air, or probably more fitting, another nightmare court member.

He’s pretty high up in rank last i checked, i doubt he’d throw himself away so carelessly…. i hope….

this is good news! Mesmer’s always find a way to wriggle out but nevertheless we must take fact and evidence into consideration. A body is left behind after the fight…. but we dont know how long for. consistency with this is most illusions shatter after being structurally compromised. this doesnt stop cadyern from casting an illusion that copies him with a “act of dying” while the real sylvari escapes into the jungle.

That’s also another possibility! And he may be more on par with Faolin with illusions who, as we saw, was able to create them to be closer to shades where they didn’t actually shatter and she was able to “rez” them if you don’t bat her away.

taking evidence from characters of tyria, the short stories and the long novels we see that scholar’s have many many many more spells than the ones we have for players. a great example is Mocha, the asuran mesmer from sea of sorrows. she has the ability to whisper in someones ear from hundreds of metres away but player mesmers cannot! we can obviously expect more skill additions in the future but its good to remember that there is this kind of scholastic void of discovering skills for each profession. we dont know everything we can do with each aspect of magic.

Pretty sure everyone can do that. /whisper

Burst skills.

For me, burst skills are the reason why no other class just feels good. Sure, other classes have high damage skills or sudden bursts, such as Backstab on Thief, but it’s just not the same.

It actually affects the way I play my warrior to begin with. I don’t like using a GS because you don’t get to use the burst skill (not such an issue with 100b in PvE). Similarly, I tend to end up going from sword/shield back to axe/shield because for a non-condition spec, Flurry doesn’t have much use.

Honestly, getting a kill with Eviscerate is awesome. Even more so when it’s a Thief that gets killed in stealth.

I LOVE getting kills with Eviscerate. Only thing better is when the target dies from everyone else in my party and I fly off the cliff to my death…

OP, I don’t think any of these guys actually read your post. They just thought of it as another “QQ, event is too hard”. If they would spend the time to read, they’d see that you’re asking for a work around potential griefers/afkers.

On topic, I like the idea of those changes. In theory, nothing really changes other than eliminating the possibility of someone incompetent hopping on a turret. Being on a turret isn’t hard or challenging; it’s just that people don’t want to work or take the time to learn.

Assigning an NPC to a turret isn’t nerfing it. Being on a turret is the easiest thing. Is 2 off CD? Then I better use it. Oh no, a giant red circle of poison and death. Better use 3. Is 4/5 off CD? Better use it. In fact, it makes it harder, because you can’t tell the NPCs where/when to cleanse/buff.

One question I have is what is a good number to have protecting each set of Turrets?

Ideally, you want a full 5 man party on each turret. 1 guy on the turret, with the other 4 protecting him. You might even wanna designate one guy to be the backup turret and another to be the rezzer if the current turret guy gets downed.

People protecting should focus on the FINGERS and then the mobs. Zerker gear actually works here.

And people on turrets should also watch the ground around them. Cleansing poison around yourself on the turret can do a lot for everyone. Every second that someone is not on the turret is a waste.

What counters the upcoming warrior meta?

Now what comes next? Could it be a cycle? No, that can’t happen. Especially not in a game with a variety of builds that allow players to shift the meta. I mean, I shouldn’t have to change my build to stand a chance against the guy that changed his build to counter mine. That’s just dumb. I should be able to roll with one build and stomp everyone. And if one build counters mine, that’s just OP. Nothing should ever counter whatever I run.

It’s quite possible to save Lord Faren solo, but it’s a little bit easier with a small group. If you get 5 people in there, chances are you’ll spawn a silver. If you’re solo, try to group them up, and then whip out the dps. 100b is perfect for this.

As for the rest of the dungeon solo, it’s also pretty easy to go through it without dying. Just run past everything. Greatsword 3 works wonders, along with stability, endure pain, and Shield 5. Take your time, pretend it’s like a stealth game. For the destroyer zone, you can run all the way to the right and drop off the cliff to get to the boss fight. (At least I think it was that zone). Try to do tricks like that.

And for boss fights, well, people above have given very good tips.

Anything in particular? I am just level 18 at the moment. Is there a real reason to weapon switch? It seems lost on me.

Weapon swapping allows you to obtain another bar of skills. Different weapons are useful for different situations.

For example, the mace excels at stunning, but that’s about it. The hammer can stun too, not as long as the mace, but it offers more crowd control (CC). The greatsword and axe are dps weapons, with the axe coming out on top in terms of raw damage, but the greatsword gives mobility. The one-handed sword offers a mix of power, mobility, and condition damage.

And I haven’t even touched the offhand variants, the shield, or the ranged weapons yet. I suggest reading the wiki to learn your weapons skills.

As for a leveling build, anything really goes. You can’t really focus on it anyway, since you won’t have the levels to learn your traits. However, you should start looking towards a build that seems interesting, and try to level with that build. That way, you’ll get a taste of what if feels like. And if you don’t like it, you can always re-trait; although that takes more money the higher level you are.

I also find it pretty cool that you play with your son. My father doesn’t have the patience to learn anything this “complicated”. Heck, he just mashes Heavy Punch/Kick in Street Fighter.
