The noob account made it to Ruby effortlessly after 5 days in Sapphire. Since it’s a neglected account, I really only log on to it because I couldn’t take the losing streaks on my main account anymore.
Core builds don’t do so well in Ruby. Noob account doesn’t have expac and there’s no way in hell I would upgrade after seeing how messed up the leagues are.
My main account that is still stuck in Emerald have more wins than my noob account in Ruby.
- post june 23 dd ele – you could still kill it but it probably killed you first
- chronobunker – you’ve wasted all your CDs on it and still has full hp and node capped. no worries it prolly cant kill you but it has CCs and boons that will help his teammates kill you real fast
Although the ele was more powerful, chronobunker had greater influence and control in conquest. I think they are still good but just not as godly.

No. Just no. No one needs more buffs, we need a lot of targeted nerfs to revert this stupid power creep. All classes need to be brought down to the level of warrior and thief.
Warriors need a buff and I say that with no emotion or bias. It was the least represented class on the league and its elite spec saw zero representation

Mesmer is so strong in general due to alacrity, it will still have a place in the meta. But at least this bunker abomination is dead.

DD ele after spec patch before they nerfed blinding ashes was the worst build of all time. They literally had to change the ESL rules to prevent people bringing 4 and a thief and dominating any team not bringing 4 eles.
Funny how people forget the way teams stacked 2-3 of guards, engies, eles and warriors at various times but suddenly lose their kitten if 2 of necro, ranger, mesmer and probably thief get stacked.
Both builds were unhealthy but the d/d ele right after June 23 patch was the most powerful build in the history of this game. Unlike chrono bunker that could hold off 2 maybe 3 opponents, post June 23 d/d ele had enough dps to actually down the 2-3 opponents.

sPvP should definitely have a map with no secondary mechanics or gimmicks…3 years in, it’s almost impossible to believe that such a map has not been added, but very easy to believe when you consider the new map they HAVE added, Stronghold, and what they did to the BLs and WvW.
The degree to which ANet does certain things well is amazing, but it is neutralized by the incredible extent to which they fail in other areas. Even worse, it’s not rocket science. Very puzzling and extremely disappointing.
There was a time when I enjoyed WvW almost as much as I do spvp. It’s hurts me seeing them destroy what once brought joy to many of us. WvW used to be a fun playground and the feature set gw2 apart from other MMOs.
Same for pve. Not only is it boring but you could no longer explore on your own without being in a zerg led by a commander. And those servers are always full!!!
@Vapour – I submitted a support ticket and claimed that I have a higher probability of getting bad teammates in pvp. I asked if they could look into and plus I said my computer is upgraded so therefore this shouldn’t occur.

League Advancement is a Mess
50% w/l a huge disrespect to experienced soloQ pvpers. Only in this game where you see clueless scurbs queuing for ranked matches and being rewarded at your expense. That’s pretty much the essence of the game’s matchmaking when it goes for 50% w/l – someone has to pay for the inexperienced players’ deficit to achieve a 50% w/l. Game has no reward metrics for experienced pvpers because they are simply used as a pawn to accelerate the progress of noobs.
Current soloQ player base forgetting teamwork is required. Most still prioritize selfish interests like inflating personal score instead of focusing on objectives and helping each other out.
Balance is a mess
I bought expac expecting robust build diversity but instead we get this miserable meta driven by brainless passives, invuln, AoE cc, effortless cleansing, etc that were neatly packaged within the expac upgrade.
Terrible instructions
Game in general is poorly documented and the pvp demo is utterly useless. It doesn’t teach the new player what exactly needs to be done and what the immediate priorities are. It doesn’t reiterate the importance of capture and defense.
Barrier to entry set too low
r20 minimum to queue for ranked matches a joke because if rank points were acquired from hotjoin, you get people that are far worse than a pure noob. What you get are people who have already developed a belief on how the game is played. Most of the time, the beliefs are counter productive to capture mode.
Not the fault of user base
There is no one else to blame but the developers. They set the tone for creating an in game culture. They set the parameters for what we can and cant do. I’m not implying that they are lazy. But I am hinting that they may not care as much as we thought
The small details make the difference between developers that care and to those that do not.. Small details like implementing and never improving the counter intuitive personal score. Small details like adding a bank in hotm over a year and half after release. They fail at the small details and always seem to introduce one gimmick after another.

I like the part about not losing a pip in close matches. Or at least not make soloQers lose a pip against a premade when the final score is close, maybe within 50-100 points.

Very solid power based FT engie build, works quite nicely in yoloQ. I’m not sure if you need the expac to use runes of leadership without the xpac but strength runes are just as good, and a bit better for dps.
You dont need to have the expac to buy the new set of runes/sigil/amulet
When on my tempest, I could decap chronobunker’s node but ensuing match would just stalemate unless one of us gets +1. This meta is boring and not what I expected from the expac.
I had so much love for PvP before they shuffled and changed the entire trait mechanics on the June 23 update. PvP went downhill for me from that time onwards. If they buffed necro, mesmer and ranger while everything pre June 23 stayed the same, class diversity would be near perfect.

You develop a thick skin from the verbal abuse over time. Even though it’s a competitive environment and the expression of frustration is expected, in the long run, it will be more difficult to communicate with your team. Communicating via text, sometimes makes it difficult for people to know if you are being constructive or unfairly critical.
Im guilty of expressing my frustration but I’ve always stayed within the context of the game. No personal attacks – that would just make the experience worse for everyone else.
condi necro vs tempest is like attempting to slay a dragon with a plastic knife. The necro could win if he tweaks his build and doesnt exceed his micro-tiny margin for errors. Even with full LF, the tempest would just out sustain him.
Don’t fight bunker mesmers on their capped point.

On a HoT-less alt account with no to low MMR, I was able to reach Ruby strictly by soloQing with the soldier 2-kit rifle engie and d/d ele (if there were no DH on the other team)
So core specs are still good in the first 3 divisions. On Ruby, I’ve hit a huge wall and have quit using the alt account.
Do F2P people get access to this forum? If not, the list should still be shared on reddit and where ever F2P congregate.
Mesmers are strong atm but I dont agree that the current meta version has anything to do with last year’s 4/4/0/0/6 shatter or PU variation.
If you said they are OP now like they were after the June 23 patch before mirror blade and etc got nerfed 2 weeks later – Then I would have agreed with your title.
But up until recently, Mesmers weren’t highly favored.
Pushing 50% W/L doesn’t motivate anyone to improve while compromising the position of those that are already good. To top it off, the straight losing streak is a pretty brutal treatment to veteran pvpers.
It’s hard to respect how they structured their competitive platform.
But I know they have their reasons – due to the small numbers, they need to retain the lower skilled player by rewarding them at the expense of better players. I’m referring to soloQ, still the most dominant queue format

Another “advice” … playing thief is your right ! But changing character if u have 2 thieves in ranked is a duty. (It works for other classes too like ranger – guardian – warrior- engi – necro)

When in solo q, it’s hard to demand someone to swap. It has to come from their internal motivation. It’s 30/70, where only about 30% swap out. I always thank them when they do because at least I know that they care enough to want to improve our team’s chance of winning.
When you play a thief other 4 ppl have to be on 125% of their capabilities to carry you through a game.
Don’t be a kitten and rerol to useful class.

We won every time my alt gets teamed with your thief/mes/pet. But we didn’t go against Abjured and NL. It’s terrible game design when solo pugs lose pips vs esl teams considering how its more challenging for soloers to earn pips..
Solo can be tolerable in the first 3 divisions. After that, you just set your self up for getting farmed.
I know the devs are not in favor of SoloQ. That’s why I don’t understand why it’s still being offered

The Mad Cow Attack Strategy
The Mad Cow Attack Strategy involves a key player (the mad cow solo player) rushing far at the start of a match, by himself. Most of the time the solo hero will fail to communicate this strategy until after the match starts—if at all. I think the idea is he may (highly unlikely) be able to win the match at far, or create a 2v1 at far, thus allowing everyone to win the AWESOME outnumbered battles the Mad Cow is creating with this pro move.
Of course, basic math escapes the Mad Cow, and he rarely realizes he is actually creating a situation where the battle is 1-3-1 vs. 0-4-1, having one ally sitting on home defending it against a nobody, while your team is fighting 1 man down on mid. By the time your home defender realizes what the Mad Cow has done, it is too late. Your home defender’s well intended, but fatally tardy, attempt to back up the Mid fight usually ends up with him arriving on point as your first ally is stomped to death—everyone else bleeding profusely.
The best part is, after this happens, the enemy floater will peel back to their home base and engage the Mad Cow 2v1, thus boosting the Mad Cow’s feeling of self worth (he has created the uber powerful outnumbered battle at far). Meanwhile the enemy team easily steam rolls from mid to your home, laying waste to the rest of your team. At some point around this time the Mad Cow looks up from his screen, as he looses the 2v1 on far, and says: “wtf are you noobs doing!? I was 2v1 and you lost EVERYTHING! Go back to PvE!” or something to that effect. :-)
I’m familiar with teammates suffering from Mad Cow disease. They never learn. One failed attempt after another, they never learn and still push far. Funny thing is, their builds usually suck.
They get themselves confused with bunkers defending against 2 opponents at a node. Unlike Mad Cow syndrome, bunkers are often patient, structured and would not carelessly rush a point that they’ve failed at capturing

I understand the problems with imbalance and computerized matchmaking inefficiencies.
However, they are monumental roadblocks that’s beyond my capacity to resolve.
Since I can’t fix the game’s internal infrastructure, I’ve collaborated with other pvpers to offer tips that anyone can apply immediately in conquest based matches. If everyone understood these principles, I think the pvp scene would be far more enjoyable
@SamTheGuardian – Thank you. I often enjoy reading the material you post on these threads. Agree that playing team captain to pugs is usually ineffective. What’s more persuasive is using suggestions and making them believe it was their idea. But without voice coms, you gotta make communication as short as possible.
Encouraging words can also do wonders so long as they are receptive and eager to win.
I try to be optimistic but it still wouldn’t change how unenjoyable I find this bunker meta to be. Everything just drags on and instead of having fun, matches feel similar to doing tedious chores.
People back then complained about the removal because they didn’t anticipate the dead end we have going on right now. It was a good call getting it removed early.

I have seen bunker mesmers who are holding their home point get pushed by a necro or scrapper or something only to waste time and cause us to lose fights outnumbered. Easy mistake to fix.

Was just explaining the importance of outnumbered fights when opponents have a dedicated home bunker to my pug team.
Most people haven’t realized one of the most powerful attributes of bunkers is buying time for your teammates while opponents exhaust their CDs on you.
To decap from the bunker, especially if he’s good will take a REALLY long time. Time that would be better spent helping teammates secure mid.
Yeah Scrappers aren’t considered as “prestigious” as heralds and chronobunkers. I enjoy playing one because it’s the most well-rounded and reliable. It offers good support, good pressure, good sustainability without feeling unfairly over powered.

Here are additional mistakes made by many inexperienced SoloQers:
x. Personal points are mostly irrelevant and usually not a measure of skill
A good example – The role of bunkers are immense in conquest mode. Since parts of the game make very little sense, bunkers often score the lowest in points.
The probability of having a separate Solo Queue is looking bleak. So instead mourning for its absence, I’ve decided to create a list of mistakes commonly made in order to improve and progress further in the season.
The goal here is to help the community survive and extract enjoyment out of the game despite the unfavorable circumstances. Please add what you feel most SoloQers need to improve on.
I do not wish for this thread to be hostile or vitriolic.
1. Defend the points you just capped.
A lot of times people just wander off not knowing where to go once the team has two points capped.
2. It’s very risky to attempt to 3-cap with a team of pugs.
This is how teams get wiped. A brief 3 cap could easily turn up against you.
Going for that far cap works if heavy pressure is at mid and home.
3. Don’t double or multi-cap
A strong indication that the team is likely to fail is when 2 people cap home at the start.
Multi-capping is not the same as node team fights. Only 1 person is needed to cap.
4. Be map aware
In Khylo for example, there is no need for you to keep trebbing when the enemy has 3 capped due to your team being outnumbered and your teammates just wiped. Or, if you see the point you just capped is contested don’t run away especially if it was home or mid
5. Don’t bring garbage builds to ranked
You are doing yourself and the team a disfavor when you run garbage. If you soloQ, the best builds to run are sustain and some support. I personally get discouraged when teammates hp drop to red and then black in a matter of seconds.
Edit: I know this goes without saying but bring the class you are comfortable with. The ESL meta doesn’t necessarily apply in the first 3 divisions.

Those clocks give me nightmares. Today I killed one of those mesmers with GunFlame (in hotjoin, lol)!!! Of course warriors in its current state will never make it to meta. But I just wanted to share that story with you.
The matches with multiple mesmers were NOT fun to watch.
OverpoweredNecro’s skill level is tournament tier. So assume his MMR is rooftop.
His win/loss ratio is indicative of a faulty system. He’s a much better player than me but one thing we have in common is that the teammates we end up with have extra chromosomes.
