It’s great that Tarcis, a top tourney player is reaching out and helping fellow pvpers.
I feel d/d eles are OP but I don’t hate it and I don’t want to see it get nerfed badly because I play it too sometimes, haha.
I’ve seen Tarcis on his ele in hotm a few times lol but not in matches. I only encounter his big brown warrior in matches haha.
I have close to 9K games. Our new r80 friends not only got there faster but also got rewarded.
There was a time when I had to pay with tokens to compete in certain in-game matches.
But in the end, it’s really no big deal to me that they got to r80 faster because I got to enjoy the game longer and experienced all the weird balance changes each profession went through. Hopefully you will feel less cheated if you view it from that perspective. For some reason I find the legendary champ title to be as meaningless as the champion slayer title.
Crashed yet again. It was only smooth on one match, the one I played immediately after the patch was announced. The most recent one, my entire team crashed. We were doing well too but ended up being outnumbered.
No crash in most recent match. All 10 players were present throughout. I closed the game through task manager after the patch fix
Mark, Hugh – thanks for the prompt fix
Crashed 2x this match.
That’s an improvement over my last one but I’m done with PVP for now. Can’t be competitive with all the crash interruptions.
I’d rather team with F2P people and have a stable connection than go thru all of this.
No wait, I take that back.
Anyways, hope you guys fix soon.
No exagg.
I have no idea which team won but that’s my secondary concern. Please fix the crashes. It has occurred in my last 2 matches. The very last one I crashed 3×.
In this screenie, I was literally in-game for less than a minute then it crashed on me after capping home
A visual reminder of the map we miss and love…sniff sniff
Bringing this map back would make A LOT of pvpers happy, both veteran and new.
I was gonna ask Tarcis the same thing about thieves coz I struggle against them. For me it’s more like 30/70, lol, but I’ll practice his advice so maybe my chances improve.
The response from the community is so good this thread should be made into a sticky. It’s something we could update regularly and could be a truly useful resource for anyone interested in improving their pvp performance.
Just realized this now but op, mad props on the use of reverse psychology on this post.
Not sure why you say that. I know abc is a bit eccentric but his argument on this thread is spot on. Things don’t turn up too well when devs decide to nerf a build. Good examples include necro after dhuumfire “balance” and more recently, the engineer. I don’t know if the game has enough life left over if it will take them as long as it did the necro to recover the engie.
That’s why it’s best if they leave the ele alone and buff other classes instead. I also like the idea of having more boon hate to further counter elementalists. But fully gutting them will do more harm than good. I agree that d/d eles are op but I’d rather have them be op with counters on the way than be useless.

I want it nerfed so bad so that players who let this and other overpowered cheesy meta builds carry their lack of real skill have to try and use their brain to come up something creative for once, instead of the same thing over and over again until you die a miserable death of boredom because GW2 is such a boring game that I find arguing and debating logic on these forums FAR more fun than playing the kitten game itself these days.
Can’t disagree with you. I think your necro were in the same team as my alt engie just a few matches ago. I swapped to my alt warrior to counter one of the cheese builds. I multiclass but consider the necro as my main. When playing a non OP class, it’s mind boggling how much more effort you have to put in to be as effective as one of the cheese builds
That’s one of the engie builds I run. I’d stealth to get close enough for pistol 4, incendiary ammo, incendiary powder proc, pistol 5, FT 4, throw wrench then run far far away if they’re still alive and have cleansed.
Last year, I remember an encounter with 2 pure shatter, signet and mantra-free Mesmers named something like 1110101011011 and 1011011011101. Maybe their names contributed to how much of a pain in the neck they were.
But names (in this case, with weird accents and letters) only have a real advantage if you are one of dirttbags that spam emotes
Engies cant attack on elixir S and their CC do little damage now. Most run soldiers ammy on intelligence sigil and as long as you evade the timed hard hitting attacks, you should be able to get them down faster.
It seems to me that the sustainability of rampage warriors today is but a mere shadow of the old celestial shoutbow. They can be a tough challenge on a necro yet barely touch a fresh air ele. Relative to other classes, I think warriors are slightly underpowered.
AFAIK, mesmers and rangers were the apex predators of 1v1 combat from 2012 – June 22, 2015. Not certain what dominates in 1v1 today. I’m guessing maybe ele and mesmer
Warrior, Engie and Necromancer
This is off-topic but I was browsing through subforums and found the necromancer’s to be very supportive and one of the least toxic. Kinda ironic for a class that’s supposed to be dark and evil. I have lots of respect for necros because we’ve been in a drought (lack of OPness) for far too long.
BEST. MAP. EVER.
I don’t know why this map brings me happy thoughts but please bring it back. Devs have already invested resources creating this ROC so I propose that they convert it to a Deathmatch based map or remove underwater combat but keep everything else.
Imagine how happy bringing this map back will make a lot of PVPers.
Post June 23 burning is a new damage resource that coax ppl to consider cleansing instead of going over the top with maximizing their dps or overinvesting sustainability from physical damage.
You have access to trait cleanses, utility cleanses, condi clear sigils, condi clear runes, dodges/evades. I have survived 14 burn stacks from a guard on both my engie and ranger. Those were close fights but on my warrior, I usually come out unscathed. And my necro simply issues the burn givers a prompt refund. Builds that apply the highest burn stacks can be countered.
I will admit the d/d eles are a pain and are not on the same league as all the other condi classes/builds. They are beatable so long as they don’t run away but your margin for errors are slimmer
Just for fun I played my s/w shout warrior recently (theyre not as powerful as they used to be but I wanted to take a break from my rampage warr)
Against a burn guard mid fight, I actually felt bad for him for not even scratching the surface of my armor. Cleanses are great but dodging obvious tells allows you save your precious cleanses.
OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH
Been playing power necro for years but the weapons didn’t feel right except for dagger and warhorn. Axe and focus were alright but I used staff instead for the some of its CC and extra DS damage.
For power necro builds, the GS feels right at home. The devs did a good job with GS/power/Reaper synergy
Why is blue more expensive than pink?
Blues tend to be more expensive than pinks generally. Pinks have a narrow niche of uses; blues are more universal. This particular blue goes well in a lot of situations.
Does electro blue have the glowing effect of that one craftable armor (from mordred bosses, forgot the name of the place, sorry I don’t pve much)
Luminescent armor? No. Although it does have some similarities in tone.
I’m kinda leaning towards pink but I already have hot pink and cotton candy.
If you have to choose one or the other, I think you’ll be happier with blue.
Hmm, what about electro green or peach.
I like the green. The peach is, like the pink, good for a narrow set of uses. Among the four you mention, I prefer blue -> green -> pink -> peach. Your mileage might vary.
Happy (character) birthday!
Awww <3 <3 <3
Yeah luminescent armor, that’s the one I was thinking of when I had a brain fart.
I wish they made peach more orange-y. I agree its shade is not far from being pinkish.
I have about seven characters that will turn 3 over then next week or so, so I’ll likely get both, but the reason I’m getting electro blue first is it works very well for ice- and Jormag-themed costumes.
I have 7 characters turning 3 as well but it’s going to be between 2 weeks from now and December. Only really wanted to know why blue is pricier than pink and I guess you answered it.
It’s nice getting these dyes as a bonus. The most I paid for a dye was 192g for Shadow Abyss. I remember paying 20-50g for Abyss x 8 back when dyes weren’t account bound.
If you like all of those, get one from the gift and feel free to buy the others.
Can you buy them for me? Please? K, thanks.
For tournament play, composition needs to be tight and granular. Even though less than 5% of pvpers participate in tourneys, we still look up to them for guidance/inspiration on what builds to run. However, I must add that there are thriving builds solo queuers can run effectively in ranked/unranked that’s not represented in tournaments.
I got back about 3 weeks ago from almost 3 years break myself :P (only played core beta and a 1-2 weeks after release). Overall, it seems like most people agree that Ele is the strongest (it doesn’t many many weaknesses) with D/D. Ranger would be the weakest.
Then thief seems mandatory in the tournament games I’ve seen. Mesmer and Necro seem good, perhaps Engineer (Necro with a spec to throw conditions back at people since this meta seems heavy on conditions). Bunker guardian. I still see a warrior here and there but it might not be in the best spot.
The expansion might shuffle it around though. So far, from testing with the beta, if the game was to release in the current state, I would expect D/D ele to still be the strongest spec along with the new Mesmer (Chronomancer) and the Revenant. Ranger and Engineer elite specs aren’t out yet though so I can’t tell for these 2 classes. You might want to check out the beta stuff to make your mind since the expansion is around the corner.
I think guards have an upper hand over engies at the moment. Before the 2 huge engie nerfs in the spring and summer, I had 4 pvp engies each with a different build.
They still have good mobility but everything else, an ele could do better.
Got my 3 year gift a couple days ago and I’m still undecided which Electro shade to choose.

Cant make up my mind…help
I had a necro QQ against my condi guard. Strange encounter that was…
Burning from guards and engies are fine. It’s pretty much all they have. Time your dodge and cleanses to expose how weak they really are.
Burns from ele Ring of Fire is not fine – it does 3 stacks of burning per hit at a very short 10s CD if traited and believe me, 99% of fire eles do. And if they fail to burn you, they could still do 4-6k dmg from burning speed crits (also on a low CD). Carrion guards and rabid engies could only have that in their dreams.
Not sure if matchmaking has placed me in a losing streak but I’ve been getting teamed with the worst possible teammates you could think of. I seldom complain and this isn’t personal. But losing 10 or so matches in a row makes me uneasy due to how uncommon it is.
I’ve been getting teamed with a lot of new names where they do one or more of the following:
1. zerg
2. chasing enemies without having the nearest point capped
3. can’t last more than a few seconds in team fights of equal numbers. it’s absolutely deflating seeing your teammates hp be either red or black just after winning a 1v1 at home
4. running away from an even numbered encounter at a point recently capped. they just run away, not caring nor even bother to see that the point is contested.
5. going for Lord early on with little consideration to capping points
6. doesn’t rez even it is safe to do so. doesn’t understand the disadvantage being outnumbered due to teammates at spawn.
7. so much more anti ranked pvp protocol
Not sure what’s going on really. Did my MMR suddenly take a nose dive? Or just bad luck?
It’s probably best if they achieve an x amount of wins (i.e.150-300 unranked wins, etc) before ranked entry.
I see no huge game changing downsides going this route. Upside include better ranked filtering = fewer mismatched teams = better pvp experience.
Another upside is when the newer player is motivated enough to pursue 150 or so wins, they wouldn’t take ranked matches for granted. They would also bring a higher caliber gameplay that will be appreciated by ranked pvpers, unlike the gameplay from low minimum requirements.
There is no way a new pvper could master a build within his class plus understand map rotations in 20 rank levels.
I think it’s much healthier for the pvp community as a whole if ranked entry is changed to x amount of unranked wins.
Happened to me a number of times and it’s a coincidence that it only occurs when my team is leading. Crash happens and we end up losing. Kinda deflating, this. Took a screenie on an incident.
This happened a few times and I was able to do a screenie on a recent match. Not sure if it’s a coincidence but it ALWAYS occurs to me when my team is leading. Everyone crashes and we lose.
Odds are generally against you but if you decap lots and avoid large team fights, you can win. It also helps if the thieves do what theyre supposed to. I heart good thieves.
I don’t know what necros run in wvw these days but it’s good if they still run power wells. I can see this bug being a problem if necros start using the pvp meta build in wvw. I’d prolly LOL if our necros began to rally the downed zerg.
The only class that’s an exception is the d/d ele. They don’t apply burning stacks as fast as the guard and engie but they’re unbelievably tanky and can also do high dps from burning speed and easy might access.
nothing new bro…nothing new…
I know I know. Was worth reiterating how eles are superior to other burn stacking classes. I’m starting to love d/d eles as much as you do.
Your guard took the name I wanted for my warrior.
I’m gonna get flamed for this but, burning as it stands, contributes to balancing the game. It enforces ppl to run cleanses instead of running all-dps focused builds.
I have survived 14 stacks from a guard and 11 stacks from an engie. They’re very squishy if you manage to outlive their condi burst. The only class that’s an exception is the d/d ele. They don’t apply burning stacks as fast as the guard and engie but they’re unbelievably tanky and can also do high dps from burning speed and easy might access.
Best of both worlds…all necro team and weird builds.
Necro main. Played over 8k matches, 3k on necro.
If Monday nights weren’t as flaky for me I’d join in a heartbeat.
I’m sure you guys would give an all ele team a run for their money. Post vids if you can, GL.
Aside from the toxicity, we get misinformed “know it alls”
No joke, my shatter Mesmer was reprimanded and got told to bunk. Gotta get my Mesmer out of this bracket
I like how they force you to agree to get marketing spammed with this patch
Is that even legal?
The reason why I don’t use Android devices – I was given a Samsung tablet 3 years ago and in order to activate it, I had to (in a nutshell from theirT&S) allow Google to basically spy on me.
I don’t mind Anet’s addendum to their T&S as long as they don’t sell my information. Unlike google, they don’t make billions exploiting user data. And even more billions by ripping off advertisers.
Not sure what will get more attention, posting about the bugs here or reporting them in-game.
The Mesmer bug is too much and should not go unnoticed as long as this necro bug.
I have reported it in game. I am sure many others have. Its also in the necro bugs post that was put together after the big update patch.
It wasnt a big deal before but its rampant now due to the signet builds viability. However it will become even more rampant once the Daemon Malyx revenant skills arrive.
I agree that the mesmer bug is much more critical and needs an update as soon as possible.
Confirmed they are aware of the Mesmer bug. Maybe it’ll get fixed soon
One of the pvp devs confirmed via PM that they are fully aware of this problem.
Are you sure he said it’s a problem lol? I can’t deny that it’s creative.
LOL yeah I hear you.
He did say it’s a bug and they’re fully aware of it.
One of the pvp devs confirmed via PM that they are fully aware of this problem.
Letting this bug go unnoticed is a good way to annihilate the entire class out of existence in matches. Necros have a rally bug as well and it’s been around for years, still not fixed.
But the Mesmer rally bug is far worse…
Not sure what will get more attention, posting about the bugs here or reporting them in-game.

I try to be pleasant in-game. When I land in a 2 thief team, I’d hint that it’s a subpar comp but all the thieves would do is defend it and say it’s alright. But you know, It’s almost never alright.
/weep
Check out my characters’ level. I have a lvl 80 for each class but I’ve created alts mainly for pvp. The rest of my alts are now lvl 80 coz I’d get bored waiting for queue and use up tomes to level.
What I like about this game is that there is no barrier to entry to play pvp. Also, stats are universal across the board.
Mesmers are in a good spot right now and it’s nice seeing them around for the sake of class diversity. FYI, I don’t play one
that welland am being unbiased. They got nerfed already and if they get nerfed any further, they might end up as underwhelming as engies. Sure some engie builds can be viable and I still love playing mine but their traits don’t meld too well
literally nothing about mesmer aside from mirror blade getting one less bounce was nerfed.
PU is still untouched.
Confounding Suggestions is still incredibly poorly designed (the fix didn’t address the actual issue at all).
Mind Wrack still does more damage than backstabs despite being easier to land.
Blinding Dissipation is still stupidly strong for absolutely no reason, being stronger than GM traits that have similar functionalities; not to mention the absurd strength of blinds + distortions (can’t clear blind on invuln’d targets).and let’s not forget to give mesmer a round of applause for causing a blanket nerf to air/fire because it had stupidly strong synergy with nearly every greatsword skill and shatters.
I hear you on the nerf to air/fire sigil. I know PU mesmers are powerful but in capture mode, having more than 1 PU in your team could become a liability. Their stealth becomes a double edge sword.
The place where I absolutely hate PU mesmers is WvW. The roaming ones are untouchable. They induce rage and high blood pressure
I’d like to see a buff to thieves and engies. All leather armored classes seem underpowered.
d/d elementalists were like, “who needs elemental shielding and other boring earth traits when you can have empowering flame, burning fire, pyromancer’s training, burning rage and blinding ashes.”
The offense-defense synergy of fire line alone is better than the 3 combined trait lines on some classes.
