after a few min, I got so bored I started doing the unfathomable…liking friends’ selfies.
I was told to play a “real” build after I downed someone on my d/d a day after June patch. That was my first hate encounter. I started playing d/d more than ever bcoz it was the build I had the most familiarity with after all the trait changes. Granted at the time, mesmers and engies (w/barrage bug) were considered more op than d/d.
D/d’s were powerful and the build served us well. I will miss it. In fact, despite the nerf I will still come back to play it after I get tired of Reaper, Scrapper and everyone’s fave, Druid. lol.
I LOL’d as well at the racist reference. I actually enjoy abc’s posts due to his eccentricity. I’m sure he was only trying to be “clever” and prolly meant the system doesn’t favor high MMR solo queue players.
I solo queued during the second test ladder season. It felt like about half of my losses came from 4v5 and totally mismatched matchmaking. Managed to end the test ladder at slightly above 50%. It was unreal how I hustled going between home and mid and engaging in many 1v2 encounters while my teammates were quadruple capping.

hi Torso, your suggestions seem reasonable. What’s funny is that before Evan’s announcement, we had people defending matchmaking saying it was working as intended. Oh dear my word. Im not sure how they will resolve these bugs but I’m partially relieved that they’re aware of it.

50% win/loss ratio was a fair baseline expectation when solo queue was independent.
Now that it no longer exists, you’d have to be militant and masochistic, which I am not, to expect a 50% baseline from solo queuing. Especially now that matchmaking bugs are confirmed.
We’ve been playing a bugged game for a long time now. I think anet should reward those that got hit the hardest with a minimum of 150 winning streak matches
Prolly wont happen but I’ll be just as happy if they fix the bugs.

I remember Marvin and another warrior from Blackgate hotm reached Phoenix before the April 14 update. OE had it too. That was a HUGE deal back then when the road was longer with no buffs or rewards tracks.
I was the annoying r48 noob that kept asking them to /rank for see the finisher and /cheer non stop.

One of my favourite outfits, the best thing is that with a little dye it can easily be used as regular clothing (it’s like cultural town clothes, yay) instead of wedding-specific stuff.
For me it was worth the gems, since it’s drastically different on each race, it’s like getting several outfits for the price of one, or well a bit more. :p Looks great on everything IMO, though I’m not a fan of the male sylvari variant, but it might be that I just didn’t discover good dye combinations for that yet. I love the Norn variants especially!

I thought it looked nice on the preview but I don’t think I’ve ever seen in on a character. That could be my fault for not leaving HoTM but if any of you have it, I’d love to see a screenie with your character wearing it.
Also, will it allow you to change dyes on 4 sections of the outfit?

I bought shadow abyss for 200g. well worth it.
I had such a bad experience with abyss, this was years before shadow abyss. You see, back in the day, dyes were not account bound. I had 8 characters and bought abyss dye 8 times ranging from 4g-35g. I think I bought 3 for over 30g.

The OP explained what I have observed in-game around the test ladder season. It’s also my go-to thread after feeling let down by how bad certain matches ended up. I referenced this a couple days ago to a pvper caught in a bad streak not knowing what the heck was going on (most of us have been there)
It was just absolutely epic that Evan announced earlier today that one of the bugs they’ve discovered and are currently working sound identical to what was explained here.

It’s as simple as why the pseudo code takes score points of 100 increments instead of 5 increments, considering almost every factor in the game is in “5” and not “100”.
105, 110, 115 all the way to 495
instead of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500If you have 1000 players each with an end team score between 400 and 450 points… they all shouldn’t get the same +3 rank point score. Should it not be in increments of 5 so they each have a more defining rank point score?
I truly hope that the Pseudo code algorithm has changed instead of placing a beautiful GUI over an engine that never improved.

It’s wasn’t news about solo queue but definitely two steps forward.
What matters is that they did a good job tracking down a sneaky bug that matched extremes. Those almost always turn out sour.
Plus they are disabling some code that locked our MMRs and prevented us from climbing up. This is definitely 2 steps in the right direction and possibly a huge win for all pvp lovers.
Let this be a lesson to all the people who were claiming matchmaking was fine… mindlessly defending the status quo when there’s signs that something is up isn’t helpful.
I know what you mean. I usually ignore people like that because they hinder progress and never really bring anything positive to the discussion.
I’m impressed with the transparency of your post and really do appreciate how you’re on top of improving matchmaking quality.

According to Colin the pvp numbers have never been better and are growing rapidly. My interpretation of this is that they don’t do solo queue because they hate us.
I took a screenie a while back of a thread titled something like High MMR Punished in Solo Q and one of the devs made a comment admitting how matchmaking is a bit unfair for higher MMR people.
I guess they want the win rate of high MMR people to balance out with the low MMR by placing them in teams with very little chance of winning. Here’s the screenie. I can’t find the thread though. It’s on this subforum somewhere….

OK so…what would you recommend then Evan? I want to play the three classes that are going to have lower professional MMR, but loosing streaks like this suck and don’t make me want to keep trying. Its not like I’m doing particularly crappy on my Engineer, maybe a little worse than the classes that I play more, but not bad enough to throw the match alone. Also thanks for responding, gives hope of anet listening to us.

I’ve been exclusively solo queueing since December update and realized half of my losses came from 4v5s and full premades. My second account isn’t even on the leaderboard but it finished in the top 100 during first test ladder.
It would be awesome to queue in a full team but it’s hard to organize sometimes. The few occasions I was in a full premade, the win rate was around 75%

Yeah, that’s a waterpark. Some say the Ranger NPC lives there and keeps the gates locked.
When it was opened last Halloween, the Ranger made an appearance next to the Thief NPC.
Edit: Fun times. When it was opened, I went diving and said hi to the underwater golems. I even caught a goldfish. I wish the Ranger NPC opens the park again and join the other NPCs above

Been playing for years with almost 9K games.
Anyhow, if you solo queue, the matchmaking sometimes puts you in a “streak”, often, a losing streak. That’s where you lose in large chunks between 5-15 in a row.
Then you’ll be back to normal with whatever your win/lose average is. At least that’s the hypothesis because a lot of solo queuers have experienced the same thing

My main (necro) can’t wait to have even more access to it and my d/d ele despises it.
There were organized team matches where I’d wish I brought my bunker guard, d/d ele, powerwells/cele sig necro, survival/healing springs trap ranger, marauder/soldier engie or rampage warrior instead of burst burning guard….
I got hard countered like there was no tomorrow
But of course I reciprocate and treat burst burn guards the same way I get treated on mine
Burn damage really does make pvp more challenging. If you learn to adopt, I see it as a good thing to have another burst damage source
As I have noted, the Mesmer build I ran in the video is worthless in pvp. You will die faster than an 1800’s infant born in industrial revolution slums.
Warriors and engies are ok atm but were denied permission to use celestial amulet. Well you still can but it’s gonna be underwhelming unlike pre-June patch.
Matter of fact, pre-patch celestial shoutbows and 2-kit rifle were more OP than d/d.
It’s great that we’ve fully adapted to the new trait system and how it altered the game play of some classes. But I’m still holding a bit of a grudge over June patch and hope expansion refines pvp balance further.
(not sure why ppl hate nado, personally I think it’s great for getting the quick decap.)
I prefer Rampage but when ranked queues are long, I’d play unranked and always choose Skyhammer when available. It’s a fun place for using Tornado

Another reason why the necro forum thrives is because the mature, helpful tone is influenced by the leadership of folks like Bhawb, Ronpierce and a handful of veteran usual suspects.
These guys know necro inside out. Other class subforums lack that kind of presence so threads are sometimes teeming with misinformation and a hostile tone.

Going through the forum threads, it appears that I am not the only one who wants this useful and supportive trait back… if you ignore the animation.
Bunker Down just doesn’t seem to work anywhere near as well as EIB because it limits your amulet choices to have higher precision and the placement of the dropped med kits are unreliable. And Soothing Detonation….I cant believe that made it into one of the master traits because the healing it does is so underwhelming.
I agree Dr Gonzo, the squatting animation is off-putting. They look as if they are about to sit on a toilet or about to lift some heavy weights. On certain classes, it’s very obvious I almost always chuckle at every dropped bomb.

This issue is nothing new. But for a game that makes a good chunk of revenue selling costumes and outfits, and legendary weapons are sought after for their skins instead of stats – it’s safe to assume that vanity influences a big part of what we do in-game.
If that’s the case, then why are the bomb animations so tacky and unattractive? It’s the ugliest skill animation I’ve seen. Depending on the camera angle, my engie would either look pregnant, or look like he’s about to get a hernia.
I’m relieved that healing bombs no longer exist even though it was my favorite trait because I’d hate to be seen in public with these animations. They are so goofy, I doubt other players would take the engie seriously.
Elixir infused bombs, Bomb kit and Thermobaric Detonation with no ICD would make for such a great build. cele Engi 2.0
Pretty much what he said. I’ll trade bunker down for Elixir infused bombs any day.
I like the cele 2.0 idea with these changes:
-Either increase the damage of nades or Reduce damage but increase its condition duration and stacks
- Make incendiary powder baseline
Flamethrower – either increase the damage of flame jet or increase the burn stack at the end of the channel. make flame blast more reliable. reduce the cd on napalm
no idea what these 4 builds might be, but how about you tweak them & try out other stat-combos than just cele.
It’s kinda hard to tweak a grandmaster trait that no longer exist. I loved how we could invest points in all 5 trait lines back then. But that goes for all classes not just engies.
My engies used 3 amulets pre-patch, not just celestial.
Earlier this year, I had 4 engies lined up on this account for pvp. All had unique builds and served different roles. Today 3 out of 4 of those builds are either non existent or completely nerfed to where it’s useless and you’d be a liability to the team.
Sure engies are still viable but the trait changes has killed a lot of build diversity and celestial ammy now yields underwhelming results unlike before.
