Thieves even seem to out damage the hounds. The hounds will ocasionally knockdown but sometimes the theives do it with scorpion wire

I’m a similiar but i get my blinds from shadowshot, D/P
I open with steal,stealth backstab, Shadowshot for blind/damage, then let my auto attack combo go, dodge, shadowshot, auto attack combo. This is kinda what i do, I can throw in more backstabs with Blinding power Utility and Heal stealth, 25% life stealth is even another try at it. I save heartseeker to finish them off

Alot of people dont realize that the auto attack combo actually does more damage than the weak tier Heart seeker, (more so after nerf) and if your 15 in Deadly Arts your poison from your auto attack combo weakens them so now they are doing on average 25% less damage when a blind doesnt stop them. this also causes them to have 50% less dodge during the fight.
Im still a glass cannon build so i do alot of damage but i dont seem to get hurt that much when i do choose to go toe to toe with fighters. the nice part is runners have no chance of getting away.

30 DA, 20 CS, 20 SM. (panic strike),

Scorpion Wire (WvW)

So i decided to play with this a few days ago in WvW and now its always on my bar.

Dont be put off by it just because its a tier 1, 1 point ability, it is really good, only a 30sec recast it usually always up to grab that guy running from you especially if your crippled. Its also lets you do a cloak n dagger and Backstab.

It can even be fun in standoffs. Pull the guy out of their crowd right into yours. it will also pull people off of ledges and bridges right to you for a nice beating.

Of all the classes, why is the thief the least mobile?

Signet of Shadows is 25% speed boost, i dont believe anyother class can have that speed besides short duration Swiftness 33% and we can trait for that in dodge roll and stealth

This was a perfect fix, i only use it to finish people off as it was intented. If you are complaing about the change you need to realize there is better abilities to use on your target when he is above 50% or 66% old. Even your auto attack combo does more damage AND inflics conditions. HS only needs to be used once to get on your target but spamming it on a target above 66% life was actually making you alot less effective than you could have been with other abilities

Other have the opposite view on the thief in WvW. they are the last class you want to catch you in open field. Yes they dont bring much to a stand off / raid, if you like to be part of that you should make a ranged class or war, or guard.

But if you want to be a very effective thief try roaming, you can basically pick off anyone trying to get to the Hot spots. Signet of Shadows basically makes it so no one can catch you, if you see a group coming at you you can usually get away without even using stealth abilities.

I have alot of fun roaming solo or with a friend. You can also hang out close to your zerg and still pick off ppl trying to flank or just ppl who end up where they shouldnt. If you side is attacking a keep, hang out behind it, you will find people trying to get in.

oh and when someone does try to take me 1v1 they usually lose, if i start the fight with steal/backstab i win 99% the time, even against warriors.

what runes/sigils do u guys take

Well for sigils id go these 2 paths. If your power / prec, id go Air rune for lightning strike in main attack hand. seems to do alot of damage and since its on 5 sec cool down there is no need for it in offhand use the 5% damage or 5% crit sigils.

Now if your condition damage spec, id go with theEarth sigils (bleed) on each weapon

Well in combat your speed is basically cut by 40%. SoS is still giving you the bonus speed while in combat. Sometimes your target isnt in combat or is but has switness up.

I hate having to use a utility slot just for speed, but aslong as my target is in combat and doesnt have 33% switness speed i will catch him.

Another major ability i like is 30 points in deadly arts for Panic Strike, target under 50% life is locked in place for 4 seconds, they cant even turn so this is a free backstab and slaughter. been using it the last 2 days and only 1 lucky guardian has been able to survive it.

Lol there is alot people who could kill that thief before he killed them with those heartseekers. he is also using cooldown abilities for intitive. the thief in this video will lose most 1v1 fights and always lose against a skilled player. watch the video and notice how the targets health bar barely moves from 100% to 66%

never happens to me, im always able to backstab……

I would really like to see a half second stun attached to a succesful backstab from behind. This would be a reward for landing it and help keep the target from moving away instantly

HS is a finisher and should do high damage on low health targets… It really doesnt do that much damage to high health targets, and any smart thief wont spam it because your auto attack combo actually does more damage and adds conditions ( on a target with 66% +life).

Steal…… Ive traited it so its always my fight opener. 900 range shadowstep that poisons and weakens the target, gives me 2 int, and lets be start the fight with a backstab. the stolen item is just a bonus but sometimes can be very good. to me thats an awsome ability

Backstab… while i would like to see a half sec stun attached to stop the target from moving away i still think its good, if you use your dancing dagger or a chill poison it helps to land it more
Also signet of shadows lets you move 25% faster this really helps in always landing backstab

Blinding powder is instant (an oh kitten button) and allows you you to stay stealthed and land a backstab, or any stealth attack. Ohhh and it also BLINDS.

Shadow refuge on the otehr hand requires a tiny bit more time as it is a ground target. also one you leave the refuge your not stealthed anymore.

I prefer Blinding powder in most cases and running solo. For me its a free backstab when im out of intitive. and lets me get thru a crowd of enemies without getting hit

People are always mad when something kills them faster than something else.

Heart seeker only does it damage if the target is below 33% life. if the target is above 66% life, the auto attack combo actully does more damage and has effects. Cloak n dagger and Backstab combo does more damage than 2 HS (same int less if traited)

HS its ment to be a finisher, thats its purpose…… the thief is suppose to be able to dump his intitive for burst damage thats its purpose.

The problem isnt the damage HS does at low health, its the fact you let yourself lose that much life to make it effective.
If a thief spams HS on you at full life, your still gunna have 70% life and the thief has no attack left.

One more thing people probably dont think about is the executor trait skill, 20% more damage on a target under 50% life. its is a masterskill with 30 points spent in critical /crit damage line

There are lots of things i like about the crafting system, exp and discoveries.

But the main flaw i am seeing is the items you make for use is too quickly replaced, even when you make masterwork items. the 2 main problems are there are just so many item drops from pve kills and you level very fast in this game. Also since there is such a huge abundance of item drops nothing is worth anything, everyone basically sells them for the price they are sold to NPCs.

while lowering the rate of items dropped from pve kills would help. I would really like to see the power of player crafted items raised. Atleast 5 levels above drop items. example: a blue level 15 dagger will have higher damage and more stats that any blue dagger drop level 15-19.

This would help make crafting more desired and worth the time invested. Also the items would actually be worth value to sell.

if you dont want to feel like a drone dont follow the zerg around. go do your own thing… stay off the path, look for enemy players gathering or by them self

most of the people i kill or helped kill seem to drop one, also instead of trying to be teh 1st person to Finish someone off i found that just atatcking them while down would usually give a Badge as a reward. if you try to Finish them off… alot of teh time your too late and get nothing

i agree that would like to see a reward system like daoc. for those that dont know its not armor. armor is always a bad idea, plus it get replace by better or new armor anyways.

as for flipping i havent seen this. i know what your talking about from warhammer but in GW2 its been a constant standoff attack against actual enemy players, stuff that has been taken alsway seems to have alot of defenders staying aswell. for the most part ppl seem to be going to teh hot spots where the enemy PLAYERs are

Roargathor…. thats what the competitive matches are for. WvW is for yoru server and the more you fight for it, the more you should be rewarded. im not talking major character change, and rewards for just following everyone else and taking keeps. the skill point rewards i mentioned above should only be rewarded for actually killing an enemy player. and again teh rewards would be minor, small stat increases or so on. so you are still improving your character.

ummm most servers make you wait hours to get into WvW pvp…. thats because its really really good. probabaly the best pvp for an mmo out there aside from DAOC

Its worth it just for the shdowstep, but if you trait it like i have, its a shadowstep opener that poisons the target stealths me, gives me 2 initive and lets me backstab the target before they even get to do anything.

throwing rocks for 1k is a differnt matter, i just dont see the point of downed if you have finish them off. its not in pve……. why cant it be the same in pvp. in most cases you would just be attacked anyways and killed. just seems to me finish them off cancels out the point of teh down state

yes i know there are alot of views, i guess the one that stsicks out the most is that a level 80 pvp person sits there with nothing to do waiting while the level 30 pvp person could still go pve and level so he has a better pvp character. in this sense both people are getting to do something productive towards pvp. as apposed to the level 30 pvping and the level 80 doing nothing.

the abilities gained could just simply apply to you in WvW or if they were very minor PvE would be okay i think. This really helps to keep people from feeling like they hit a wall where there character is done and cannot become any better. In daoc as you progressed the points became very few and far between sometimes taking 3 to 4 months to abtain the next but you always felt like you progressed and improved from when you started

Now alot of people complain about no reward, and alot of people say WvW is the reward. This is my view on it. And yes i came from DAOC with an awsome PVP reward system.

Its not mainly wanting a reward, its wanting the ability to keep improving your character, even if its very minor, so you can always feel like you worked towards making your character better at the end of the night. this inncentive is what keeps people sticking with that character so they dont make an alt or even quit.

My idea, do what DAOC did just way less toned down. After so many kills you get special points, it takes more kills to get points as you progress. you can buy minor things like stat increases for your character, or armor increase factor, or even small chances of procs like lifetaps or bleeds. they dont have to be much just very small but your still getting the ability to make your character stronger.

and i am completely against any pvp armor idea

For alot of level 80s WvW is the only reason they spent time building their character. WvW is the endgame for them, the only thing for them to do. IF the map is full then a level 30 shouldnt get to go ahead of the level 80 that is basically sitting there with nothing to do. the level 80 should get in because the level 30 can go and level up in pve until h gets in.

I know its not fair to alot of people. but i think the best sytem for the situation and best for the server

The system is fine how it is. thsi way you can still contribute even at level 1 by running seige equipment or reviving fallen allies, but higher levels are tougher and superior still. So this still gives you teh inncentive to level up so you can be better and stronger and help your server more. I myself am only level 34. yes i want to get in and play but i think a level 60 or 80 would be more effective out there and help our server more. i want the best for our server so that i can have those exp boost benefits and gold benefits.

Your bumped to level 80 so basically you have the hitpoints of a level 80 but you do noewhere near the damage or have the armor. a true level 80 can 3 or 4 shot a true level 10. when your fighting out there you can tell who is really high level and not just by the damage they take when they get hit. People are no where on the same scale, this isnt like Structured pvp system. some ppl dont even have utility abilities yet.

Now i know some people will disagree with me but this is how i feel the system should work.

Higher level players always get bumped ahead of lower level players in the WvW que.

This is why. (1) This is the endgame for most level 80s not much else for them to do. (2) higher levels are more effective than lower levels and help their server more. Its about the server winning = more bonuses for the server helping others. now i know there will be more skillful, better lower level players but in most cases that skilled player has level their character and knows how to play them better than the new guy who started yesterday. (3) This system would give more inncentive to level your character so you can go and fight for your server. Now lower levels can still get in just have to wait longer and im sure eventually the que will dramatically get shorter or go away

Look at it this way, a level 80 just sits there with nothing to do, he should get bumped ahead because lower levels have other stuff they can go do like level up in pve while they wait to get in, making them more effective in wvw

Also i noticed or got the feeling…..once you go and do WvW you kinda feel like you have a sense of purpose and a reason to build a character, so you can go and fight for your server. even if you dont like PvP just being there with all the other people makes you feel like you are apart of something

Higher levels should get to be put ahead of lower level players in the que. 3 reasons….. if you took the time to level up and should be rewarded, higher level characters are more effective and help their server more. and if your level 80 thats basically the endgame for you with not much else to do

not sure about the leveling thing.. you get exp for everything you do… I think its too fast, especially with what you get for crafting and gathering. IMO exp needed to level should be increased. especially since there are 4 other race zones you could go to

As a thief too thats all i can do try to do it teleport away. but i want to actually be given a chance, even a small chance to throw my daggers or use skills to try to kill someone.

Even as it is now someone with 8% life could come over and finish you off before you could even try attacking to rally.

Another idea could be to make it so you cant be finished off right away maybe a 10 second timer from down before Finish Them Off could be used

They need to give higher level people the pass over lower levels waiting to get into WvW. 2 reasons, at 80 thats basically your endgame and otehr being higher levels are much for efefctive fighting for rewards for thier server

Well WvW is suppose to be the main endgame, with the reason for leveling your character to be able to go out and fight for your server. the problem is level 80s cant get into WvW because of the que and all the lower level people. I really think anet needs to do what other games did and give higher level people the pass to get into WvW over lower level people waiting. Higher level people are much more effective fighting for your server

Anyone else get this feeling? I dont see the whole point of having the “down state” when you can basically just finish them off in 2 seconds. i think the ‘down state’ is a cool idea but your not evening being given a chance to fight back and rally.

When they told us about the “down state” i pictured a battle with people on the ground fighting for their life while the rest of the people fighting tried to win the battle and then could go around killing downed people.

Imo just remove Finish them off and actually attack and kill downed people. If you have to put a timer on Rally so it cant be used for 20 seconds. that way people arent getting up right away if untouched or they have no targets
