Soraya Mayhew – Thief
Melissa Koris – Engie – SF for Life!
Yeah, as others have stated its not random. Just go through the whole process and choose what you want. Real easy if you also do the key farming. or whatever it is now with the personal story being made all goofy these days.
A lot of people on forums probably already have a legendary, are bored and so they forum stalk and talk disrespect because they don’t know what to do now, well stop being a noob and join the wvw and pvp side of the game? I always hear people say how scared they are to pvp cos they get GGed all the time, probably a kid who stole their mums credit card.
Respect the game and enjoy what is made, no one forces you to pay a cent.
Guild wars has a massive amount of free space if you are to blind to see it on the map, to create new areas like silverwastes/drytop. They might even be workin on Cantha or Elona since they are major aspects of guild wars 1, but why would they want to share that with us?
People who complain coughs If you think you have some great ideas and want to change the game well why don’t you buy out arena net and go ahead with your plans?
You are making some horribly kittenumptions regarding those of us who voice our issues with the game. Fact is not everyone LIKES to play WvW or PvP and there are still many of us that HAVE done the dungeons, HAVE played WvW regularly, HAVE done PvP and have been playing in the GW universe since GW1 beta and still have many valid concerns with the both the direction of the game and the overall feeling of disrepect from Anet.
Fact is there is a real problem here that Anet seems to like to ignore all while trying desperately to make money off of its dwindling player-base through the gemstore and its many vets of the series that are so vocal because we HAVE invested much of our time into a game that is spiraling downward. We are vocal because we are seeing a ship we love going down and when we are asked for suggestions we are usually met with crickets and then “look more shinies in the gemstore” posts.
Its like taking the canary into the mine then when it falls over telling it to stop being so dramatic. Guess what, its not actually pining for the fjords.
*edit: wow Anet. The kitten filter is so strong as to completely stymie and actual word in the English language?

have an open character slot and char-gen a new toon of that class then delete and repeat until you have unlocked all the starter hats and shoulder items.
not even kidding.
Yeah, all i see from that link is them talking about LS and how they’ve used that to deliver new content. I’m sure they’ll leave out the part about it being delivered at a slow drip with months between chapters that take about an hour to play at a time. Or the cost to players if they miss the update window.
At this point i just want the broken things fixed before they even give us an expansion of any sort.
I personally do not like the idea of traits as loot. More RNG? No thanks. So I might have to kill this champ 300 times in HOPES of getting a trait? No thanks. Then you get said trait maybe 50 times and have to delete it because you only have 3 toons? No thanks. I see bloodstone dust everywhere. I don’t want to see trait books everywhere too. Sorry, but I cannot get behind this.
I think if the RNG was more palatable (see my post) and a flag was set once you have them all unlocked so you don’t get the drops anymore then that should work. Remember, its not like you’d be encouraged to hoard them since it would also work in conjunction with an account based unlocked, not just a toon one.
TRAIT SUGGESTIONS for 2015:
For all accounts with at least one level 80 with all (or all except for a few GM ones) unlocked:
Make all of the traits that are currently unlocked on that account apply to all toons on the account, OR…
*Make all traits not unlocked on other toons on those account cost no more than 10 cp each to unlock.
For all new accounts/accounts without a fully traited level 80 cut the current cost of gold and skill points by at least HALF of what it currently is. A better price cut would be 70%, but we both know you won’t go that far.
ACQUIRING TRAITS:
Method One:
Tomes
Adept level tomes can drop from Veteran mobs (60% chance) starting in level 15-30+ zones or from chests at the end of JPs (20% chance) in those same zones.
Master level tomes can drop from Veteran (30% chance) or Champion level (60% chance) mobs in level 40-60+ zones or from JPs in those areas (20% chance).
Grandmaster level tomes can drop from Veteran (30% chance) or champion level (60% chance) mobs in level 80 areas or from JPs in those areas (20% chance).
Tomes can also be obtained at the end of an appropriately leveled dungeon not to exceed more than 2 a day if your thing is only running dungeons.
If PvP is solely your thing then a similar rate of dsispersal from the dungeon PvP tract OR even the traits having their own PvP tract for PvP players to use to unlock them should they want to venture into PvE at a later date. It also gives PvE players another method to obtain them while getting them to try out PvP.
If WvW is your thing, then making them a 40% drop for capping towers (adept level), keeps (master level), or Stonemist (GM level). This will both foster agressive play from people that want to solely level in WvW and still earn their traits while also giving PvE players another avenue to try while giving them a taste of WvW proper. (EoTM is excluded from being able to award the tomes).
Once an account has unlocked all of the traits in this way it is flagged as being unlocked for the account and no more tomes will drop for this account.
Method Two:
All traits are tied to “secondary” heart quests.
Once you can start earning traits, heart quests in appropriate leveled areas (30-40 adept, 50-60 master, and 70-80 GM) turn red to let you know they have an additional “quest” for you to earn that trait.
Yes, it will be more work on your end BUT, it means that people can be directed to parts of the map that they might completely miss or avoid to perform a task worthy of that trait.
It means building some more flavor into the world.
A chance to help teach certain game mechanics that maybe players struggle with at first.
A chance to make the traits be more meaningful to the classes.
(I like this one a lot as it is MORE like the skill quests from GW1 that many people missed).
All of this aside, if you are really bent on keeping things the way they are then you HAVE to fix the broken events currently linked to traits, and not in some temporary band-aid sort of way. You have to fix them and keep them fixed or completely change them already. And for the ones that we ALL know no one does (GRUB), change that nonsense. its rude to have this in place this long and not address even that with as many updates and fixes that Anet has rolled out. Rude. It does not send a message to us that we or our opinions are valid.
(edited by PookieDaWombat.6209)
So, why are people mad at the daily change then? It dictated what you should do before, it dictates now. There was no “play how you want” in the first place, unless its real “play how you want to be dictated”
In all honesty I could log in before, jump into PvE and/or WvW and just play the game (opening map, gathering, events, etc) and get my dailies without ever even looking at the list to see what might have been on it. I literally happened my way into the daily just by playing. Now i have to see if I can do them all in PvE or if I am going to HAVE to jump into WvW to get them completed. Add to that my general “meh” about WvW lately and yeah, it makes me think about dailies as more of a chore now than before.
Fairly sure i was in a place on Orr this past weekend with someone that could unlock that trait over at Lyssa and it never got unlocked.
I’m honestly not a fan of Orr in the first place on most days.
Just saying.
So, seeing as there is actual red post activity elsewhere on these forums, can we please get a proper status update on this issue again?
OK, I’ve been away for a wee bit to recharge the batteries, but i have a few things to say on this topic:
First, I don’t hate the new dailies *personally**. The reason why is because I was able to get the dailies fairly easy in the past and now just through the way I play. Since I play in multiple game modes with WvW being one of them, getting dailies is really easy for me. Add to that the number of level 80s and yeah, not a problem
That being said, I know where OP is coming from here and I agree. The level of choice for a new player/someone who only plays in one game mode over another is SEVERELY limited as compared to before.
Now although I can understand the argument that these are now strictly for AP and if you don’t care about it you don’t have to feel pressured to do them, it still doesn’t hold water when you look at it a bit closer. See, its not just about AP. If that were the case then you wouldn’t get specific rewards for each one. Furthermore I defy any player to sit there and tell me that the AP chest rewards didn’t/don’t matter to them. The constant bonuses to just gold and magic find alone are important let alone the skins that are only obtainable through this method. This makes people want to do the dailies and if they feel like they have to now travel out of their way to a map that they hate/haven’t opened yet in PvE just to get the daily done there is a problem.
Some nights I’d just log into Queensdale or Wayfarers or Ascalon and knock out my daily there. All 5 of them. No stressing about it, just did it. Now I am finding myself looking at the list and saying, “well I don’t want to do most/all of those so its a good thing I like to and know how to WvW/PvP”. This is a problem since it means that people that don’t like/know those modes are now possibly being forced into them just to get those AP knocked out or they are just opting to not bother with that aspect of the game. If people are not caring about AP, then what are they going to be left caring about to even log in?
Honestly, I don’t hate the new daily set up. Granted I had no problem with them before either as I could always get them done while playing the game normally. Now I can get specific things catered to my play-style so that means more WXP for me in the long run since I still tend to get most of my dailies done in WvW should I log in.
That being said, I only ever consciously do my daily now if I am close to getting that next AP chest.
(But I would still like to have the old system back, where you could experiment because you don’t have to go and collect them like pokémons.)
I want to be the very best
Like no one ever was
To level up is my real test
To trait them is my causeI will travel across the Mists

This was awesome and a much needed bit of levity. Thank you.
I need to bow out of this thread for a little while. It honestly depresses me too much at this point and I already have a hard enough time around the holidays as it is to also have a game add to that in any way.
Keep up the good fight for those that still have it in you and please keep making them see this thread. Or hey, even more like it at this point since obviously playing nice and keeping it all in one thread hasn’t seemed to do us much good. i don’t know…maybe someone will wake up at Anet. i just don’t think they will.
Oh, i’m not angry/upset with you Marnor. You’re right in that some of the posts in here have been on the fairly angry side of things. I even had one i made somewhere back in the 30-35 page range get deleted because of how angry that post was.
The problem here is that While we see other issues come up and get dealt with almost immediately, while we see other problems generate 10 plus threads about the same thing only to be fixed, the rest of us sit here in this thread and play by Anet’s rules about keeping it to one thread and offering pages of suggestions, only to be both seemingly ignored and fed platitudes instead of getting a straight forward and honest communication about this in literal months.
Unfortunately the latest spate of changes in the game might drive the one person I played with regularly to leave the game, and once that happens I’m not sure I’ll have it in me to care about it all anymore. :/
So much people are complaining. When I see that some of them are logging on their account , in order to post their complaints since 8 months, i really wonder why they come again and why they have not just left this game for another one .
Perhaps the hope is still anchored in their mind.
We complain because many of us have been with Guild Wars since the first game’s start and we genuinely love this world and the potential this game had. We complain because we were told this game would/could be certain things and over time the ship has gone WAY off course and as people loyal to the franchise we spoke up and continue to do so because we don’t want to see Anet slowly sink their own ship.
Unfortunately, no matter how much we love the game, at some point we are going to feel like this ship has taken on too much water and we will jump. There is only so much pleading to be heard a group of people can do.
So, I have a theory as to why traits have been made so unattainable in PvE. (I have this theory since I cannot believe that this issue going on this long is because someone actually thought it to be a good idea by this point.)
If traits are this hard to get, especially for alts, it means the ONLY place you have have full access to the traits early on is in PvP. In essence, if you want to play a fully traited toon as quickly as possible, or test a build, or anything that would require you to have traits, you HAVE to do it in PvP.
Since Anet is trying VERY hard to force players into PvP they have to give as many reasons as possible for them to play it/bolster those numbers. Everything Anet has done seems to be to push more and more of their player base into that game mode while tweaking the other game modes to be either less desirable or include more things in those game modes that feel like PvP.
At least, that’s the impression I have been getting in the last few months.
So, Anet, can someone come back in here and just be honest with us. Is there something being looked at to fix this system? Are we going to see ANY updates to it in the next few months? or have you all washed your hands of it?
They’ve since reduced those choices twice in a row, making them more restrictive than they ever were when the game began..
If I am misremembering you have my apologies, but I don’t recall dailies existing when the game began. Weren’t they added after launch as a means of providing incentive to log in and to try a variety of in game activities ?
Thank you for finding that info for me. I was in a meeting and couldn’t respond.
These are times I wish I had easy access to the popcorn gif. But I digress.
At the end of the day Anet did in fact go from very specific and limited daily choices to more expansive ones that ANYONE and any level could conceivably get. It was a change they made early on that I loved because they were truly moving towards the idea of playing your way and getting achievements for it.
They’ve since reduced those choices twice in a row, making them more restrictive than they ever were when the game began. Although I can sort of see where Anet was trying to go with this I can also fully understand the outrage. I also know that I primarily play with my wife most days and mostly when she wants to log in to do something. This change might make her stop coming into the game. Time will tell, but something tells me the deluge of posts in the next few days will make for entertaining reading.
Well if you’re a brand new player with only one low level toon, you have to remember that things like dailies would be locked away from you early on anyway.
While I agree (pn the one hand) regarding the problem with limiting choices, I think that for AP hunters, being given more specific things to do for the sake of the AP hunting and not a long list of things anyone can do accidentally by running around for 30 minutes is actually a better option. The game shouldn’t be fostering “let me just log in and do my dailies”. Dailies should be something that you strive for. Like JPs are not everyone’s cup of tea, neither should all dailies. I get why they made the change, although a few more options like 2 per difficulty tier per game type mode would have been better.
The traits are unnecessary for most content anyway. I don’t know exactly how many traits my main character has unlocked at the moment. There are only one or two builds I ever use, so I haven’t exactly gone out of my way to get the other traits. If ArenaNet was hoping to encourage more experimentation, they’ve failed miserably. Guild Wars 1 was head-and-shoulders above Guild Wars 2 in this regard (and in most other regards as well, to be honest).
I just had to quote this part. It makes me sad. It makes me sad that either Anet has succeeded in making PvE content so easy that traits really don’t matter or that they have made a system so broken that its easier to ignore/not care about traits than to want them all for diversity. It makes me sad because it means that Anet successfully set up a system that will slowly bleed its player base of anything but meta builds and the people willing to play them over and over again.
In the end, this isn’t the game I purchased, and not in a good way, which is more of a bummer because they HAVE done some fun things, and they HAVE made some good updates early on. Its just that this and some more recent updates have tainted the milk so to speak.
Oh believe me Eric, I know all of that. I was one of the vets that jumped in to test/try this new system when it was dropped on us and I was right in here in the beginning with suggestions. I’ve just grown tired of the rehashing and the playing nice. I’ve grown tired of being ignored. Sadly, I’ve grown tired of this game.
I’d hoped they could at least deliver a living story that would engage me/challenge me, but instead its done the opposite.
Oh well.
I’ve never known a company to do such a fine job of pushing customers away until now. sigh
I think I just realized the thing that has actually upset me most about this trait problem, but more importantly the response to it.
Sure, I could probably spend an inordinate amount of time…my time…listing out each trait in each class and suggest a new method of hunting it down/obtaining it that would be more level appropriate, fun, and still allow people to gain traits throughout the world. I could come up with a better pricing scheme, or even both of those. The problem here and and what upsets me so much is that at the end of the day Anet unleashed this on us and now is basically crowd sourcing the fix for their broken system. Free labor/think tank to fix something that wasn’t that broken to begin with. Would it honestly have killed you all to just make the books cost a little more, admit you wanted it to be a bit more of a gold sink, and give us the re-spec ability? Would it have been so bad to make us hunt JUST for the new traits? Instead you roll out something that obviously saw VERY little QA and wonder why your player base is so upset/shrinking/not dropping more money on gems.
Do we need to hit page 70 before we get any hint of an update? Are we going to see anything for this on the 13th of January? Yes or No? Are we going to see any movement on this by the one year anniversary of this update? Yes or No?
Can we get something other than a platitude?
(edited by PookieDaWombat.6209)
I’m honestly torn a bit here. On the one hand I actually like the changes to the dailies. For as easy and “play as you’d like” way that the other dailies have been, they always felt a bit too rote, even when we had a ton to choose from.
As some have stated, this is going to be for AP and at the end of the day, just like jumping puzzles are primarily for AP and small prize at the end from the chest, I think changing it to get rewards more in line for the task you choose to do and its difficulty while getting 10 AP for doing it is a much better system. it means that AP hunters will want to do the content and if you don’t want to do it or only want to do a few of them, then you can do that too. In the end I’m fine with that change.
I’m not fine with the act of using a gift a day of various things as a means of inflating login metric numbers, nor am I a fan of potentially seeing less laurels in a month. It just seems to be a kitten thing to do to the players, but maybe it won’t be that horrible. Given Anet’s track record on these things though…well…
I just feel like Anet has painted themselves into a corner and are now just trying anything to “fix” their problem without dealing with the first problem they made. its like a coder trying to fix bad code, by writing more code around the bad code instead of just finding and fixing the bad code.
I was mapping tonight and heard someone in map chat being advised to buy a trait linked to a bugged event (devourer queen). As I always do, I pointed out that traits used to cost less than 3g to unlock all of them.
There also used to be a lot less gold in the market. You can make 1 gold quite quickly in this game now even if you’re a newbie. 1g isn’t that big of a deal anymore.
My newbie friend had about 10 gold in their first couple weeks of playing just from going around doing random stuff they came across. And she was around level 20 at that point so she has plenty of time to accumulate more gold as she gets into the higher level areas and starts getting better drops and doing more profitable activities.
Also, please let us know how this newbie is liking the idea of buying traits/obtaining through tasks once they’ve spent their gold on armor/runes/sigils/accessories and have rolled another alt or 2 and need to do it all over for them.
We’ll wait.
I get such a laugh out of the anti-mount people. The amount of energy used to twist logic to use against mounts is mind boggling. Some players really want mounts, end of story. The issue should be simply choice. If a player wants a mount so they can traverse Tyria’s vast open world, great. If someone doesn’t want a mount and uses the way points, great. It’s ALL good if it keeps players entertained and invested in the game. Telling either side they are wrong and can’t have does nothing but lessen someones experience of the game.
The word for every anti-mount person to learn is tolerance. This isn’t YOUR game alone.
Nonsense.
The amount of dev time that would have to be focused on mounts in this game would actually impact their ability to fix real problems in the game all so 50% of the population could have a mechanics breaking vanity item. When the pro-mount side can come up with a valid argument for mounts other than “i want it” that is not easily refutable then the anti-mount side might listen. until then we will continue to point out why they are unnecessary in this particular game.
Yes.
If you get the first three, then miss a day, when you log back in you pick up on the fourth day, etc.
Anet, you are one trixie minx.
And here i thought the login to get your LS unlock was a good one, now you are rewarding people just for logging in. OK. Well played, I will give you that.
The sleight of hand at this point doesn’t fool me though.
Kudos on the dailies change though. Now to make more rewards more meaningful to the content done and you might be heading in the right direction.
There is literally one and ONLY one reason Anet would consider mounts and that is if it:
A- Was something people would pay A LOT of gems for, and therefore would be another revenue source for Anet
and
B- If they could also turn it/them into a substantial in-game gold sink
Mind you, the overall projected revenue for such a thing would have to outstrip the man hours cost of developing it. If the projected income doesn’t do that, then they won’t implement mounts and as i see it, the cost to make them viable in this game could not be recouped via gem purchases so in short:
No mounts for you.
Seriously, there is nothing in it for Anet to make mounts? Don’t think so? They just happily implemented the ability to buy new mail carriers to you. Something which no doubt took VERY little dev time to do and made it something purchasable via gems. Low cost in, with potential big profit down the line. Mounts do not fall under this category of things. Not when Anet has a queue of other fixes and updates they have already road-mapped for the game.
Well, given that we are headed into the holiday section of game updates I think it will be a safe assumption that we won’t see even a menial change to the trait system (even for QoL reasons) until AFTER the living story resumes.
So, maybe sometime in February then? Maybe? Anet? Anything? Is there literally ANYthing in the queue for Traits?
Traits. Trait system changes and improvements. Let’s please keep this topic on its tracks as I frankly don’t want there to be any excuse for it to be closed.
Please keep the banter to what changes you might want to see to the trait system to improve it from its current version.
Also, for the devs that might be looking here (unless all you are doing is sending Gaile in here periodically):
Have any of the suggestions in the last 5 pages been seriously considered or a variation there of? Have any been tested? Was it a positive or negative outcome if so? Can we PLEASE get some feedback along those lines already?!
Yeah, while I get where you’re going with this, I have to agree with others that it will only increase the chance of more dominate servers simply setting up shop in all places to run their score up while making it even harder for smaller opponents to ever get their stuff back. This will only further kill dead or dying server populations and basically mess up WvW. :/
All you can do is put your head down and then push forward and try to bring new blood into the mix. Check out the sig and you’ll see i am not speaking from a place of ignorance. We are currently rebuilding as best we can in SF. Good luck and godspeed.
Sorry to hear of your loss.
Condolences from across the pond.
I remember when I first played through the game on my Charr Guardian. i think my weapon sets were mace/torch and greatsword. I honestly barely dodged anything and got through most of the game clicking on skills. I had no idea what the combo finishers really were, and mostly lucked into a lot of them most of the time. The challenge of the game was born from my overall ignorance of specific game mechanics that i have since learned and honed in both PvE and WvW across all of my toons/classes. Now, there is honestly no area in the PvE world that I cannot steamroll through unless its some world boss that cannot possibly be steamrolled by one person, or a random champ boss that has a billion hp. (I’m looking at you Kol).
My bigger issue with it is that i know for a fact that some of these LS updates are simply not worth the price of admission, so to speak. They’re not. So my bigger question to myself was do I give them the login data to unlock it for free or so I purchase it later. since i am not in the business of giving them anymore money, but might want to play through these later i’m stuck giving them the data instead.
You are absolutely right. Anyone can get to those maps. Except only people that have any reason to be out there (read: people that have downloaded or paid for the story related things) will really get anything out of them. i mean, they MIGHT be able to get more actual things from the Silverwastes maps, but they can get things from any map. its not like they count toward map completion and if they have no reason to go out there in the first place, then why bother?
While i agree that its better than play it now, or forever miss out, I honestly feel that they should still be free to unlock. In essence you’re telling someone who’s walked away from the game for some time (and let’s say don’t even know this is a thing), that “hey you’ve been gone for a bit and there’s been this new content that…oh wait…you want to play it? Drop another 50 dollars on us and you’ll get to play through something that isn’t even a full expansion/campaign.”
I understand that Anet has issues with other games being mentioned here, so I am just going to refer to this other one as “SF2P” (successful Free to Play).
See, this particular SF2P managed to deliver a complete game with periodic events and new maps/levels for a time (although slower lately on those), and even new items into the game. Sure they offered the items and cosmetics in their store for purchase, but they also made those items attainable through gameplay, and not under some horrifyingly unjust RNG system. Some things were craftable and few other things available as exclusives for a a time. All in all it still has tons of people logging in a playing even after 6+ years. being F2P and having a store to sell vanity items or even other game assets isn’t the problem per se. Its Anet locking basic things behind a god awful grind OR using real money to buy your way past it with gems. THAT is the problem here. Add to that the “bolster our numbers of logins” by foricing players to log into get content for free or else you’re paying for it doesn’t endear people who are already irked about your business practices. just sayin.
In short, no, nothing really new except for Living Story, and since you hadn’t logged in to unlock those other parts of LS season 2, you’ll have to pay for them in the gemstore to unlock them. Enjoy.
Oh, and don’t re-roll any level 80s you have.
So Dry Top and Silverwastes, two new maps with way more to do on them than most of the regular maps is “nothing really new”?
have they been logging in periodically before this post to unlock them for free? If not, then no, its nothing really new unless they pay for them in the gemstore.
And no, whereas the content might seem expansive for someone playing them out for the first time in one fell swoop, once they are through it and “caught up” they will also then get to experience the really small/short content along with the rest of us provided they don’t go on another hiatus.
I can’t even remember the last time i logged into drytop and spent any real time in there.
i stile think selling a dungeon for the final boss is a abuse
and i hope some1 from Anet can confirm thisa dungeon run is for fun for every1 and it must be free also
and not to be come a model to earn money
Selling a dungeon run is no different than selling the droks run from back in the day. If you’ve got the coin and want the easy way through the game by having someone else do the work for you, then have at it.
In short, no, nothing really new except for Living Story, and since you hadn’t logged in to unlock those other parts of LS season 2, you’ll have to pay for them in the gemstore to unlock them. Enjoy.
Oh, and don’t re-roll any level 80s you have.
Two of my toons are descendants of two of my GW1 toons. There are whole back stories to their lineage.
All of my other toons also have whole stories linked to where they are from and what they do.
I do not, however, partake in any RP in GW2. Those back stories are solely for my benefit and enjoyment.
I really enjoy PvE and WvW, but cannot bring myself to like PvP. I also have not done all the dungeons yet even though I have a level 80 of every class and have been playing since beta. I just don’t like dungeons that much in GW2.
More importantly i think the mentality of many dungeons runners has completely soured me to dungeons.
Quaggans annoy me more than I care to admit in game, but they have their moments.
Same for Skritt.
I have zero luck with drops in this game and have only ever gotten 4 foxfire clusters (ever) even when explicitly trying to farm for them while others seem to get them by the truckload.
I’ve also never seen a precursor unless I’m previewing it from the trading post. Will most likely never see one ever, but thats ok because I don’t really care about legendaries for myself.
I really want to keep playing the game, but too many things have made me upset by it and its implementation that I usually close it from the login screen most nights now, and if i do log in I barely get my daily done if at all. :/
Here is idea so that everyone gets what they want:
Keep the new system. Anet gets a money sink, players who enjoy unlocking can keep unlocking.
Have an option to turn off new system. Grants all traits to the toon – done!
Unfortunately that would never happen since most people would turn it off and they’d lose their gold/money sink and a vast majority of players that did it once, would just shut it off later further decreasing its effectiveness.
Here’s the thing:
In an ideal world they’d have enough people working on this to give us a robust trait hunting system that:
A- Puts adept level traits tied to things in 30-40 zones, master level in 50-60 zones, and grandmaster in level 80 zones
B- And also make them meaningful to the traits themselves OR if that is too much work at LEAST meaningful to the trait line as a whole.
I believe this would both foster exploration while being mindful of doing level appropriate tasks for the reward at hand, which is improving your toon.
Realistically they could/should probably make the tiers auto-unlock except for 1 from each tier at the level gated levels, and make the locked ones tied to either prolonged events in the world or gold sink just THOSE traits. Then if they ever add NEW traits, those should be locked and tied to things to do in the world.
OR
They leave their trait hunt the exact way that it is to really force new players out into all the parts of the world and game as they are doing now BUT severely drop the cost of buying the traits so new players and vets alike don’t have to grind just to get their toons to a workable place.
I mean, seriously anet. My first suggestion here would be CRAZY fun to play and might even get those of us that have played through the game now a few times over to go out and explore again, but we all know you will probably go for the low hanging fruit suggestion at the end there.
It would still be better than the nonsense we have now though.
OK, since it still seems to be real easy for people to come in here and just start spouting off both assumptions about the rest of us in here as well as far too easy dismissals of every valid concern/complaint brought up in here over 8 months, let me re-cap…AGAIN.
General Consensus:
Over-all the “new” trait implementation is a “broken” one in that it plainly flies in the face of what Anet originally stated it’s goal to be (not only with the traits themselves, but later on with the NPE).
Although many of us veterans MIGHT have the funds (in both gold and skill points) to outfit one or two additional alts simply by buying traits, MOST players (new and vet alike) do not have those funds. Let alone to also outfit their toons with appropriate armor/weapons/runes/sigils/accessories.
Many of us were not/are not opposed to unlocking NEW and GM level traits with difficult content, but we ARE against having to jump through ridiculous hoops to unlock basic traits that are tied to core functionality of a class.
Now that those key points are out of the way, let me explain in some more detail here personally: I have explicitly leveled 2 toons to 80 in this new system after already having one of EVERY class at level 80 prior to it. I chose the 2 classes that I both knew fairly well, but that I’d want to see how they fared under the new system. Of them, only ONE feels “complete” in so far as I literally lucked into a set of trait unlocks that meshed with the direction i had in mind for her. That being said, she also has ZERO flexibility. I either run this build as is or she is completely useless. Now in PvE she’s just fine as is. I can go through the rest of the PvE game and never think twice about her set up. She will be a horribly bad toon to take into WvW though and since I like spending more of my time there, she is useless to me. The other toon I’ve have to “make work”, and once again, in PvE I am confident I can survive, but thats not because she is a good build, its because i am a vet player and can make her survive. New players won’t have it as easy and WILL quit the game.
This next part is important for all the people complaining about our complaining: I LOVE this game and this world. I WANT this game to succeed. I want more players in it. I want more stories to be told. What i don’t want is to see something as goofy as this trait change MISTAKE to be the thing that will make people stop coming to the game and in essence kill it slowly. I’ve not bought a gem card since April, and many I know have not as well. At one time I even considered getting a second account, but that is never going to happen as long as this trait system is in place. It literally took the fun out of the game for me to the point where i can’t even force myself to finish dailies most days. I honestly can’t imagine how new players feel once they hit this wall for the first time. And it IS a wall.
sadly, the forum “improvements” look like they will end up confusing things more than helping them.
But hey, I guess if you really like PvP and really hated the siege disablers in WvW then you are a bit happier this week.
So, where do we think they are going to bury this thread? I can’t imagine it being left here for devs to see. Especially after all this time.
Hey, no trait changes again, but Anet “listened” and gave us mail carriers.
Yeah.
Thanks again Anet for proving you only have time/staff to dedicate to things that might line your pockets with more money in the short run. At this point you might as well add mounts and customizable homes that will also cost gems since that is where this game is headed.
Ridiculous. I didn’t think I could be this disappointed in a game company. I honestly didn’t expect a trait change this go around, but to implement this nonsense? And then make it such an obvious money grab too?
TRAITS! Can we PLEASE focus on fixing the TRAITS!!! Can we please implement even a FRACTION of the suggestions from this thread?!?!? Can we be told if it even kitten matters anymore to you??!?!?!?
Yep. Exactly what the game needed. Totally. Frivilous and greedy.
I have no words…
Yeah, at this point I think I will only maybe try to get dailies done when I can and will be spending more time in GW1.
Seriously, I was having MORE fun running around with a lowbie there and gaining those skills, etc than trying to jump through these hoops for traits. I’ll keep popping my head in here to see if anything changes, but I doubt it.
I’m 38 with an 18 year old, 4 year old and 3 year old (15 months apart). Unfortunately I don’t get to play too often these days, but tend to have a few couples in my guild that are 35+ with kids as well.
