Like I cannot stop laughing at you for this post, you do realize how bad that is business wise right? People don’t pay to wait in line for a internet issue on downloading. If that was the case, I could argue about music files being download every day.

Laugh all you want. The reality is that there is only a finite amount of connections and bandwidth to give, and if there is not enough room for everyone, some will have to wait. I know patience is a quickly dying virtue in this on demand world, so consider this a good lesson.

So its perfectly okay for a customer to wait in line for a download while another person is downloading ahead of them, unknowingly if they have broadband, DSL, or some other internet connection to download the content fast enough?

It is perfectly okay. It’s like going to retail store and heading to the checkout line, only to find a bunch of other customers ahead of you with larger carts. You can’t do anything but wait; because they got there first. It isn’t an injustice that you have to wait your turn, it’s just how it works.

Of course, the game must be failing. Why, in fact, the reason we are all on these forums right now is because the game failed so hard from all the people trying to get online after the Wintersday patch, that we can’t get into the game.

That is some amazing failure, when you fail from being too popular.

Fair enough. I was just trying to find out what would be a worse time.

Also, WTF is with Anet and pushing out ALL of their patches during NA primetime? And don’t give me that rationalization that if they did it at 4AM it would be Asian primetime because these are NOT Asian servers, they are North American servers. Logically they should schedule maintenance around NA schedules.

With everyone waiting for the Wintersday event to start, I would rather they did it now than at 4AM so that I have a hope of actually getting to do some of it tonight.

It’s common practice to drop your price after a release in order to entice more sales. It doesn’t signify anything.

Not everyone who works on the new content is a programmer with knowledge how to fix the bugs.

Some of them are artists. You know, the people who make the game look so awesome. Their time is better spent making art.

Some of them design new events, monsters, encounters, etc. They are good at designing things, and should not spend time fixing bugs they didn’t create.

Some of them are likely responsible for in-game dialogues given by the NPCs and such; because, prose is what they excel at. They do not excel at figuring out code.

So, you assume all of them are programmers, which is a fallacy.

Some of us like the jumping puzzles. Also, calling those of us that do the “wow masses” is inaccurate. How many jumping puzzles can you name from WoW?

I love Guild Wars 2, but I’m not sure it should be RPG of the year. It should have been MMORPG of the year instead and SW:ToR should have been RPG of the year…I think that would have been more fitting.

And while we’re at it, I take issue with the term RPG being applied to any of these games. RPGs require books and dice and some people sitting around a table. These are CRPGs, and I’m not sure when they decided to drop the “C,” but they should bring it back.

Making GW2 the right move?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProphetSword.5427

I couldn’t think of a better title but here is quick question for you all.

Do you think ANet would have used their time better by adapting GW1 instead of creating a game that many people appear to hate now (I’m not one of them, I like the game) or have they done the right thing in making a new game?

No, I think they absolutely made the right move. Guild Wars 2 is, in my opinion, a far better game than Guild Wars. It is the compromise between Guild Wars and other MMOs with some original ingredients mixed in that you can’t find anywhere else.

Also, the idea that “many people appear to hate” GW2 is based on what? These forums? There are always going to be haters, especially on the official forums, but that does not mean that the majority of players are against the game. Most everyone I know in the game is fine with it.

Which means, to those players, GW2 was absolutely the right move.

ProphetSword.5427

You did call me one but you realized how dumb you sounded, but the fact i leveled 3 to 80 is because i like diversity in play style and enjoyed leveling different classes, that is hardly rushing to end game. As everyone knows anyway the end game is limited and you think its a rush to 80. Why are people telling me i rushed to 80? i leveled through questing on all 3 which is certainly possible in a month and over of casual playing tbh.

I seriously doubt that you can call yourself “casual” if you made it to 80 three times and gained full exotic gear in a month. I play casually 10-15 hours a week and I haven’t come close to that.

That’s okay, though. If you’re not casual, you must be a hardcore player. To each their own. My original point still stands. I think you’re burned out and you should probably do something else for a while and come back when you feel you’re ready to tackle the game again.

That being said, let’s all try to be nice to each other.

Yes insulting me calling me a “no-lifer” is really mature mate Thing is i have a job and even go the gym every week but i managed to get 3 80’s in exotics in a month. I didn’t rush through it at all, and people can power level to 80 in a day or 2 with crafting alone. You will be surprised how people can achieve more things than you in a short time, don’t be mad.

I’m not going to call you a no-lifer, but I will point out that if you power leveled to 80, then you are not enjoying the game the way it’s meant to be played. And, as you have already discovered, getting to 80 doesn’t net you anything.

The point of the game is to explore the world and have fun. The point of the game is not to rush to the end.

If you go on a long hike in the woods, the point of that hike is to enjoy your time in the woods, not to see how fast you can get to the end of the hike.

Hmm burned out from an MMO in a month, that’s a new one. The end game is where this game gets stale and they tried to “fix” it by bringing in new gear hence more grind right? I knew a good few people who quit just because of this simple factor who played the original guild wars with me.

The “end game” is the whole game. I still don’t understand why people don’t get this. In Guild Wars 2, there are two stages of “end game:”

Stage 1 (End Game): Playing
Stage 2 (Not End Game): Not Playing

The whole time you are playing, starting at level 1, you are in the end game. Enjoy it!

1: The lost shore event was a complete failure and a botched work. Why ?

Okay, I’ll bite. Let’s see what your reasons are:

- The southsun cove map is not a real map (at least in my opinion) because you can’t explore it and feel satisfied when you reach 100% completion.

It’s a real map. I don’t see how you could reach any other conclusion. If it’s not a map, when what is it? A biscuit? A pencil?

Whether you feel satisfied or not doesn’t matter. If you don’t like the map, don’t go there. It served it’s purpose during the event (probably even serves its purpose now), and we were told early on that it wouldn’t be as large as other maps. So, I feel there was no failure there, as it opened up another place to run around, even if it’s much smaller than the others.

- Karka items such as shells can’t go to your bank via the deposit collectibles button

It could be an oversight. Instead of complaining here, you could have simply posted about it in either the Suggestion or Bug forums.

- Karkas are not even considered as a type of enemy. I MEAN WHAT THE HELL ? You kill a karka and it doesnt add to your daily “kill variety”. This is horrible.

It’s not horrible or game-breaking. It’s a bug, for sure. Report it. That’s all you can do.

- Some friends got a karka chest mailed event if they attempted the event and looted the “real” one.

ArenaNet tried to make right. I don’t think it worked out exactly as they planned, but at least they tried. Compared to other companies that frequently do nothing at all, I think the effort is worth something.

Are you saying that you were due a chest you didn’t receive? If so, that’s unfortunate, but hardly the end of the world.

2: When jumping, your hardware performance can reduce your jump length. For instance if I’m on the edge of a mountain and about to jump, and my FPS suddenly decreases then my jump will be shorter. It’s a proof of terrible coding and probably the same thing that allows bots to teleport across maps.

I’ve never encountered this in over three months of play. I’m not saying it isn’t for real, but it is the first time I’ve heard of it. I’ll reserve judgment on it at this point about whether it’s a real bug, but I doubt you should call it terrible coding, as I’m sure the coding really doesn’t try to anticipate what your FPS is when jumping. More likely, the low FPS is giving you a false sense of where you are when you jump, so you jump too soon.

3: Loot rates are stealth nerfed everyday.

This is not even close to realistic or true.

4: Some classes are still bugged to hell and way overpowered/underpowered and nothing is made to fix them.

What classes? I’ve seen plenty of class changes in the three months since the game launched, so saying “nothing” is being done to fix them is a ridiculous statement. Also, it takes time to balance things out. Just because you don’t see the changes right away doesn’t mean that you won’t see them later.

5: Over 9000 things are bugged like events in Orr and some bosses/mobs. Such as risen sharks one shooting you from 30 miles away underwater

9,000 things? How do you know it’s that many? Is there a list somewhere you can cite for reference?

Also, I really doubt that risen sharks can shoot you from “30 miles away.” Your levels of exaggeration are off the charts.

Discuss ?

Okay. I think you need to calm down, quit exaggerating, and report the bugs you believe exist in a sensible manner instead of ranting on the forums.

Of course it prevents people from logging at a given moment but you can still keep checking as some of them go from FULL to HIGH in different hours of the day.”

Her second answer was likely due to the fact that she felt the first option fit this description better than the option she selected. I say this because her first answer was VERY DETAILED, and her second answer was that it seems to relate to the second option.

I asked Eva for clarification on that message, as it was fairly vague.

Here was her response.

First message says players online at that time, but then she corrects herself saying “players registered to that server”

Looking at that a little more closely, I think she was actually trying to say that it’s the number of currently active people on the server, not number of accounts.

Your first choice has the word “current” in it, while the second one points out current and active accounts. In my mind, it would seem that the first choice means the number of people online, and the second refers to the number of people online and the number of people who have signed up for that server. (Though I honestly think you intended the opposite).

I don’t think she was the one who was being confusing. The wording can be taken in multiple ways. (Cue a reply below me from someone who translates it differently and tells me I’m wrong).

So, maybe we can actually get a 100% answer in this thread and finally put this to rest.

Logged into GW1 the other day for the first time in months (after having played it for years), generated a new character, played until I hit about level 2. Quit. Considered uninstalling.

I loved the game, but it’s time has passed. Going back feels like a severe step backwards. Hell, you can’t even jump or go in the water.

One of the odd criticisms often leveled at the original Guild Wars was the lack of swimming, and especially jumping.
And now there is totally free movement and combat through a watery environment, that quite alot of people avoid due to it’s inherent quirkiness and cumbersome combat mechanics, and swimming is primarily a means to get to the next piece of land.
Much the same could be said of the ability to jump. Aside from the clever addition of jumping puzzles as a mini-game diversion, and the placement of vistas as an incentive to jump up a mountain, the jump’s total effect on gameplay is fairly irrelevant. In terms of combat, the meat and drink of fantasy mmo’s, it really does not serve a great deal of purpose.
Not to belittle the flavour activities, such as breath-taking vistas or difficult to reach underwater POI’s, but the derision of Guild Wars for a lack of these things is perplexing.
Take WoW, for instance. The jump mechanic serves as a valuable tool in how many situations that a player would come across every day? Swimming was necessary because?
The addition of water obstacles to traverse, and hills and cliffs to be painstakingly jumped up, always felt a contrived time-waster.
Anyhow, will stop blathering now. Just a vent that seemed necessary about a superfluous gameplay mechanic that is often quite surprisingly brought to the table to discount Guild Wars – a game which I always found to be perfectly streamlined in it’s mechanics, especially in view of it’s age.

You missed the point. I didn’t uninstall it because of these issues. I just pointed them out to illustrate how the game feels like a step backwards. Honestly the game just seemed kind of dull, going back to standing in one spot while attacking and not being able to move around or dodge.

It was good in its day, but its day is over. At least for me.

There is no sense of danger at all though. Exploring just isn’t fun for me when it’s impossible to have any kind of real failure. I mean what’s the point, just to have it done? It’s pretty tedious imo.

I like exploring to be an adventure. GW2 feels more like an introduction to mmos than an actual game.

There are a couple of solutions to these problems I see in this post and others:

- If you want to make your exploration more of an adventure, go to areas higher in level than you are and explore there. It will be an adventure because the chance of failure is higher.

- If you want to level slower overall, go to areas below your level and never level in an area that’s the same level as you. This will actually make it harder and harder to level.

- Alternatively, if you want a real challenge in leveling, go to areas above your level and try to only level that way.

- Consider playing with a perma-death rule of some kind (like only allowing 5 defeats). Then, getting to 80 will be a real accomplishment.

I could probably think of twenty other ways to spice up the game…because the game is what you make of it.
