You know, I encountered an Asura during the puzzle (which I have yet to beat) that said he was going to report everyone larger than himself just so he could get the puzzle done. I don’t know about the rest of you, but not only is this a really bad attitude to have, it kind of irritates me that someone would ever want to do that.

I guess there’s nothing wrong with speed leveling your character if that’s the goal you made for yourself. It’s kind of a “mini-game” of it’s own, and if you had fun doing it, then that’s fine…I won’t tell you how to play the game.

I will say that it’s not a method that’s for most people, since it defeats the purpose of the overall scope of the game, but at least you enjoyed it.

Not sure, i saw an Engineer with a hyena earlier, no idea how. You might want to block their name on the screenshot, it’s probably going to get locked hah.

The hyena is not a hack. My ranger has runes on her armor (Major Runes of the Ogre, I believe) that has a 5% chance to summon a hyena whenever I’m hit. So, I see a hyena about once a half an hour, and he sticks around until he’s killed I think (or at least a long time). So, don’t report people who have a hyena…they probably have four of those runes applied.

That being said, beating dungeons is about learning how to dodge, how your character works, how to get everyone to work together, etc. You cannot approach the mobs in dungeons the same way you do the standard PvE mobs.

According to the information I found, that processor is able to overclock itself to 2.5ghz when necessary, which means it would probably make the minimum requirements at least. So, it should work. Your mileage may vary on what kind of experience you have, though. Still, it couldn’t hurt to try.

I am with you in the idea that the game is a work of art and is a lot of fun. I think the game is great.

However, I don’t believe that all people who have a legitimate complaint are cry babies or work for Blizzard in secret. Some of them love the game as much as we do, but see problems they want addressed.

All I’m trying to say is that if we love the game, we should say we love the game…but we shouldn’t try to belittle others just because they don’t share our opinion. It’s not fun when either side does it.

The shark’s cave was definitely a lot of fun. Didn’t expect that. For my wife and I, it turned a “let’s grab this vista” moment into a “let’s do this fun thing for an hour that we totally didn’t see coming” and ended up as a “this has been totally worth the time” thing. Got to love moments like that.

Earlier tonight while trying to reach a vista, I happened upon a Champion Skelk, who disappeared from view as he leaped to attack me.

Being brave and fearless, I immediately shrieked like a little girl and fell down a cliff to my death. Someone revived me, and a bunch of us went up the hill and put an end to that foul beast.

Another time, while fighting a Champion Troll, I wasn’t paying attention to my positioning. Being a ranger, I have several sword attacks that cause me to leap around back and forth to help dodge attacks.

The Champion troll goes to strike me, so I masterfully use my ability to leap straight backwards…only to discover that a mighty cliff drop is waiting for me, and I fall to my death. True story.

I have the worst luck with cliffs, it seems.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProphetSword.5427

First of all, it is not normal for guild leaders to make members do anything they request. Your friend can choose to do whatever he wants and he doesn’t need anyone’s permission to enjoy the game the way that he wants.

Secondly, attempting to threaten someone by reporting them as a bot is a violation of what those tools are used for, and I believe it is even stated somewhere that using them in this manner can get you banned. So, that guild leader should probably watch his step.

Sometimes when playing a game, it’s good to forget your goals of hitting the next level or completing a map to just do something fun.

One night while going up to get a vista, I happened upon another player who was trying to reach the same vista. I showed him how to reach the top. Once we were up there, we started doing celebration dances and cheers, calling down to every player who passed by.

It was silly, but it was fun.

What have you done in the game that’s been fun?

If you have done as much as you claim in only 70 hours, then you likely flew by the content so fast that you didn’t take any time to enjoy it, in which case you caused your own problem by rushing to the end instead of enjoying the journey.

That sounds like a problem, but it isn’t with the game.

Should the 'Downed' state be removed?

in Suggestions

Posted by: ProphetSword.5427

ProphetSword.5427

It’s really not the same as dying at all. When I’m down, I don’t need someone to get me back to my feet…I can do it myself…providing the people who are with me can get the monsters off my back long enough to do it. Try that with traditional death mechanics.

Honestly, if you want it removed, you’re doing it wrong. Even in PvP, I have been able to defeat my opponent from a downed state, get back on my feet, and turn the battle around on them. Again, try that in another game when you’re dead. You can’t.

I don’t think ArenaNet needs to touch it.

Am I Leveling Right?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProphetSword.5427

ProphetSword.5427

My understanding is that leveling is supposed to be a result of doing dynamic events. If you stick around after dynamic events and follow the NPCs or talk to them, it will frequently open up other dynamic events, which can lead to other events…and so on. In the midst of doing these events, you will complete some hearts, which will give you even more experience.

That being said, there’s nothing wrong with doing the hearts to completion while looking for dynamic events. That’s what I do.

I believe I read at one time right here on this site that they were working on developing applications for Android and iOS that would allow you to tie into your GW2 account and do things like craft and use the trading post.

Don’t know if that is still in the process of being released or what, as I haven’t heard anything else about it.

Just a community question here....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProphetSword.5427

If you went by what you read on the forums alone, you would think this was a terrible game with a failing population.

My experience is the opposite. The game is great, the community in the game is thriving and friendly, and most people playing it are having fun and have nothing to complain about. They aren’t bored and they accept the game the way it is.

It’s a mistake to accept any game’s forum as the true state of the game. Found that out the hard way a few years ago with another game.

Ranger - Longbow or shortbow?

in Ranger

Posted by: ProphetSword.5427

ProphetSword.5427

Personally, I like the Longbow over the Shortbow (this was true even before the patch). My ranger has been using the Longbow for 60+ levels.

I swap between the Longbow and the Longsword/Horn combination when I need to close the gap and get into melee.

Was letting everyone be ranged AND melee a bad decision?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProphetSword.5427

ProphetSword.5427

You’re right, it should be that way. I thought it was, which is why I disagreed.

My ranger dodges quickly and is amazingly fast on her feet. My warrior, on the other hand, moves very slowly, can never seem to get out of the way of things, and doesn’t really lay down the damage as quickly as my ranger.

Was letting everyone be ranged AND melee a bad decision?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Fair enough. My assessment may be based on the fact that my ranger is Human and my warrior is a Norn, and moves like a cow tripping over his own feet.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProphetSword.5427

I’m not sure I agree with your assessment of the classes. I’ve played a warrior with a set of ranged weapons, and found it lacking in comparison to my ranger. Actually, for that matter, I find my ranger is also better at melee because she is quick on her feet versus having a lot of health (I move around a log, which I believe is a good strategy…you can’t lose health if the enemy isn’t hitting you to start with).

The warrior is strong and can take a hit due to heavy armor, but my ranger is quicker and seems to do better damage with the right array of weapons. I suppose if you put yourself in a box and only think of classes in a certain way, I could see why you believe that…but I just don’t see it. Sorry.

In my experience, the more players that are around, the slower the frame rate. I think it has a lot to do with all the different kinds of armor, effects and whatnot. My frame rate is usually pretty high, but it can drop dramatically when I’m in Lion’s Arch or if I go into WvWvW.

If you think the negative posts are bad, you should have seen them a week ago. They’re starting to slow down, I think. Also, I will point out that GW2 is B2P not F2P, which may not sound like a difference that matters, but it does.

Anyway, to contribute: I agree with you. Despite all the naysayers predicting doom, I have never had any issues with finding a ton of people online every time I play. Very rarely do I find an event where I’m the only one involved (and if I am, it doesn’t last long, as several players will usually come along and join in).

Some complaints are legitimate and I think they should be voiced. Some are not. Everything is a work in progress, naturally.

What gets me is when the complaints go on and on and on. For example, I get that a lot people have issues with DR (I don’t, and in regular play, haven’t encountered it at all), so it’s probably a legitimate complaint. However, that does not mean that we needed 7,000 threads about it, nor did we need these people to come into threads not even related to the subject just to spill their poison all over everything. A couple of threads probably would have sufficed.

At any rate, I think the game has a long healthy life ahead of it. The naysayers and haters will eventually move on to hate on something else, which is fine with me.

how to be the best

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProphetSword.5427

Be the best at being an awesome player! Go out of your way to:

1) Revive fallen players
2) Help new players beat champion mobs
3) Be nice and answer questions in map chat
4) Run dungeons with noobs and show them how to win
5) Talk to everyone you meet as you explore
6) Be helpful in every way you can

Being the most awesome player around is a type of progression very few go for, so it is rare. It is the best end game ever devised and it never ends.

I’m not surprised you got a ban. It’s been a while since they’ve cracked down on names, but it’s something they’ve been doing since the three-day head start. Could be they’ve been too busy working on other things to bother.

A three day ban is standard in these cases. When you’re able to get back into the game, you will have to change your character’s names.

Somehow, I feel you’re the only one who is surprised by this.

So, we can’t even have a positive thread on the forums without someone coming along and showering negativity all over it? There are nine thousand threads devoted to complaining, how hard would it be for you to leave just one alone?

Many of us are happy with the game. I come to these forums to discuss things about GW2, but all that seems to go on here is complaining and no real discussions.

And, thanks is warranted, I think. They could have done their “jobs” and created just another WoW clone, but decided to try something new and different. That’s why I’m grateful.

So, thank you ANet. Thank you for creating a great game and for putting up with all this negativity. You don’t deserve to have so many rocks thrown at you.

Actually, I feel the thanks is warranted. They could have chosen not to fix any of these things at all. Not all bugs are uncovered in testing. If they were, then no game or MMO out there would ever need updates to fix bugs, ever.

the ONLY reason it exists is to stretch out the game. no single game in rpg history has this in the enforcement that gw2 has. final fantasy 11 did it right as to will ff14, but this ‘automated’ system is just garbage. should never exist unless people choose it as an option.

it stretches out the content, that is all. its to make up for lack of content pure and simple.

That is not the ONLY reason it exists. It also exists so that you can party with people below your level and so that a high level player doesn’t interfere or destroy the fun atmosphere for the lower level players.

Having played in other MMOs, nothing used to bother me more than needing X number of something (we’ll say Warthogs) and when I headed out to get them, some high level idiot came through with an AoE spell that killed them all instantly because he needed to grind for something, leaving me to wait for the respawns.

Honestly, it’s one of the best features of GW2.

Remove the Leveling Scale from Guild Wars 2

in Suggestions

Posted by: ProphetSword.5427

ProphetSword.5427

Personally, I like the level scaling. I don’t feel like a weakling if I go into the low level areas, I’m pretty powerful compared to someone who is actually the correct level, so I don’t know why people think they don’t feel powerful.

Also, I doubt they are going to change the way the game is meant to be played. Level scaling is there for a reason (a reason I completely support), and I don’t think they are going to remove it because someone wants to feel like the big kid on the block because he can one-shot every boss that comes along.

Finally, I doubt that they have built a structure that could keep the high level players out of the events. The game isn’t built that way, and it would require them to rebuild the whole game…and they aren’t going to do that, as I already mentioned.

Definitely a big thank you. My wife’s personal story has been bugged for a month (it had that issue where it skipped 8 events and put her ahead in the story). The patch fixed it and put her back where she originally left off. I didn’t see that documented, so whether it was a happy accident or something that they planned, it’s still great.

Maybe people will quit complaining about so many things now…but I doubt it.
