I don’t have any issues finding people to do group events on Dragonbrand. What times are you playing and on what part of the map?
The question I want to ask is:
What is the current state of the guesting service, and should we expect to see it implemented any time in the near future?
Never had that happen before. Is this something that started recently, or is it something that has been going on for a while? If it continues, I would consider putting in a bug report about it.
If you know someone who has the game already, you can actually have them copy it to a portable hard drive or flash drive (if they have one big enough). Just copy the whole directory.
From there, you can copy it to your hard drive, create a shortcut and run it.
This is what I did. After I downloaded it once, I put it on my laptop, my wife’s computer (she has her own account) and my wife’s laptop. So, I know it works okay. (Not to mention that I keep an updated version on my portable hard drive in case I need to reinstall it for any reason).
I wish we could tell you something helpful, but we don’t have any advice that would either speed up your Internet connection or the speed of the download server. Sorry. I wish we could do something for you.
Super baby genius, naturally. What I want to know is how the heck the baby pulled off 2 hit points with that constitution bonus. Shouldn’t it be 1, being as the average human has 4 hit points? I mean, no class has been selected yet…
As another alternative, consider changing your password immediately. Maybe you were hacked, which is a possibility if you really didn’t add those people.
While I’m sure that it might be interesting to do once or twice, I can imagine that it would get old rather quickly…and whatever weakness those professions have, they would all have that weakness, making it really hard to get someone to fill in the holes in your strategy.
Doesn’t seem like a different MMO to me. I log on, play a character, run dynamic events and do hearts, buy stuff from the trading post, etc. Doesn’t seem like anything has changed too much in that respect.
I am a player who doesn’t have a whole lot of time to play, but when I do so I’m enjoying it. I love the beautiful gameworld, love the challenges presented by the skill system, and especially love the lore. Gear and wealth are secondary concerns for me.
As I don’t see that covered in your chart, I’ll call this “Group Z”. And for all I know, I may be the only player in it.
That’s okay, too.
You’re not the only one. I’d be in Group Z as well.
Haven’t had any issues getting dyes the last couple of days. Maybe you just haven’t been lucky in regard to how random it is.
Exactly! I explained it to a few folks I used to play GW1 with who haven’t made the switch yet … fell like missions? Go fill a few hearts … feel like hunting/gathering? Go mine/gather mats … feeling industrious? Go craft for awhile … feeling like taking in the scenery? Go check out the vistas … Need some excitement? There’s usually a few different DEs going on … and on almost every map i wander to, there’s someone asking for a hand in the chat, so it certainly never feels empty like i’ve seen some folks describing on other threads … i can be as active or as laid back as i want to on any given night …
I was told in another thread that because I only do these things, I essentially do “nothing” in the game. Whatever that means. The whole game is end game…remember that? I’m living the end game, and loving it.
I’ve got a total of 9 chars, one of each, including a Mesmer, that I cycle through, depending on the mood I’m in, and none of them are even level 40. I’ve been able to solo everything for map completions except a few a of the skill point challenges, and there are usually folks around trying to do it at the same time, so it still gets done. I haven’t tried dungeons yet, but since none of the dungeon armor or weapons blow me away, I’m not really worried about getting them done. I don’t feel like I’m being left behind by anyone or for not having comparable gear to anyone else and I never viewed it as a race of who can get to 80 the fastest or who has the biggest exotic/legendary/etc. … I think it’s just straight out fun … feel like missions? Go fill a few hearts … feel like hunting/gathering? Go mine/gather mats … feeling industrious? Go craft for awhile … feeling like taking in the scenery? Go check out the vistas … Need some excitement? There’s usually a few different DEs going on … and on almost every map i wander to, there’s someone asking for a hand in the chat, so it certainly never feels empty like i’ve seen some folks describing on other threads … i can be as active or as laid back as i want to on any given night …
I know you posted something similar in another thread already. I agreed with the sentiments there and I agree with them here. There are definitely a faction of players who just log in to enjoy the game and don’t worry about these things. I’m one of those people. I find it interesting that some people don’t understand that.
I could tell you that I disagree with you on several points, but if your vision is already tainted against everything, I’m not sure it would help.
In the time I’ve been here, I’ve seen numerous bugs fixed, content upgrades, a fantastic Halloween event, a semi-buggy but fun Lost Shores event (I hope they get those kinks worked out), and plenty of communication when necessary.
So, I’m not sure what you want from this post, but I hope you figure it out. I would rather you were a happy player than not. That way, everyone wins.
I’m not sure why any of the changes over the past couple of months make the game unplayable. … I think it’s just straight out fun … and if it wasn’t, I wouldn’t be logging in every night for a couple of hours. Perhaps you’re looking at it from the wrong perspective?
This is the same thing I’ve been trying to say in various places, but I don’t think that people play the same way that folks like you and I do. We tend to just enjoy the PvE aspect, don’t worry too much about dungeons and what-not, and have fun in the environment. Somehow, it boggles some people’s minds that we could be okay with that, but there you go.
I still enjoy the game. I even made a thread about how my game isn’t really going to change at this point, but it didn’t go over well with certain members of the forum.
I hope neither of these things are added to the game, to be honest. They are both things that I don’t miss from WoW and all its clones.
I fail to see how you can’t enjoy PvE. If you are exploring the world at large, you don’t need the best gear.
Most of my leveling time on ranger was spent with a longbow/shortbow swapping back and forth, but once you learn how to use your melee weps correctly with this class, you probably wont go back to just bows.
Agreed.
One note of caution, though: Playing the Ranger with a sword is a lot of fun, but doing so near a cliff is done at your own peril! Those of you who have done it know what I’m talking about.
Before this patch I had max stat gear on my two level 80 characters, and never had to worry about a power disparity between me and anyone else in the game. I was done with gear, which was a fantastic feeling, and freed me up to really enjoy the game. I could just play, and do what was fun, and my effectiveness and chance of succeeding in any aspect of the game was solely based on my skill and knowledge as a player, and that would never change, even if I left for a while and came back.
After the patch, I will never again have max stats, unless I change my play style. Period. I will only get the new tiers of stats after the grinders have moved on, if at all…I’ll always be behind the curve. The gap between me and the top stats will only get larger over time.
That’s a big change, and obviously not a road I want to see them travel down.
This is a well thought-out response. I feel bad for those who will be affected by the changes. As I said, some portion of us won’t see much of a change because we don’t care about that sort of thing, but you are the type of player that I worry will leave the game. And that is rather sad.
I get the feeling you aren’t even reading my posts. Here’s why:
Yes you ignored that gear doesnt increase a player stats to kill another player easelly, or to win an event or to kill random mobs or to win a dungeon easier and quicker than a player with weaker gear,
In PvP situations, skill trumps gear in most cases. You can’t make up for skill with gear.
In the other situations (random mobs, events and dungeons), if someone is in the same group as me and has better gear and kills things easier than I do (debatable, at best), I still win since I’m part of that group. I don’t see your point, but I’m willing to bet you will try to explain it to me anyway.
Yes you ignored the fact that the game is now going through excessive grind that not many ppl will be able to keep up unless they have no life or no jobs and btw i dont plan to be unemployed for the rest of my life,
I’m a casual player myself. I don’t have time to live in the game. I just don’t bother with the things that would require me to grind. Additionally, I stated in my very first post that people have legitimate concerns.
You assume my post is in favor of the changes, which it isn’t. It’s about the people who don’t post on these forums who probably won’t notice any changes because they play casually and don’t really care that others want to grind for things.
As I said, I don’t think you’re actually reading anything I write.
Yes when you consider yourself “skilled” player it really means ure not, ure just arrogant and feel powerfull because u beat some random newbs, there are plenty with the likes of you around, the more u think u are better than other ppl at playing the game the worse in reality you are,
At what point did I say I beat some random newbs?
And I would say that if I can go toe-to-toe with four creatures trying their best to kill me that are four levels above me and come out the victor, that I have proven that gear doesn’t beat skill.
I’m a casual player too. I just learned how to play my character and utilize the mechanics of the game. If that doesn’t make me “skilled” at the PvE aspect of the game, then I don’t care what does…because I refuse to be defined by my gear. There are other games for that.
Yes when you fail to see the connection to gear and skill which easelly shows that ur skills are more powerfull with more powerfull gear.
None of which matters in PvE (the point of my post, which you have missed). And having more powerful gear does not make you more skilled. It doesn’t work that way. I feel a sense of accomplishment if I beat an enemy with skill rather than with gear.
I hope that answears your very honest and valid questions and my humble apologies to address to such a “Skilled” player.
There is virtually no need to be condescending. At no point did I say I was better than anyone, just that I considered myself a skilled player in PvE and that I didn’t need gear to give me a sense of entitlement about it. How that’s a personal attack on you or other players is beyond me.
Your own Thief style is completely up to your weapons choices, trait choices, skill choices, and personal preference.
The Thief class is whatever you want it to be.
Completely agree. While I’ve played a Ranger and gone all the way to 80 with it, I find the Thief a much more interesting class.
Admittedly, my thief is only about 26th level at the moment, but I find the profession completely deadly in both ranged and melee combat.
I run with a sword/dagger combo for hand-to-hand and then switch out to pistol/pistol for ranged. Both these combinations, when utilized with dodging tactics and the right skills make the thief capable of being a fantastic profession to play.
Some things I like:
- Great community (in game)
- Helpful players
- No mob tagging
- Dynamic events make the world seem alive
- Jumping puzzles rule
- NPCs sometimes say the funniest things
- Rewards for exploration
- Mini-dungeons are awesome
Good thing thing that you like to think youre a “skilled” player, however your own posts show you are not, but keep reaching for the stars!
And nope, you didnt miss anything, you just ignored reality and all the threads and posts surrounding this forum.
Actually, I didn’t ignore anything. I spoke the truth, which is that my gameplay hasn’t suffered from the changes. It’s true, and it remains true.
Additionally, I consider myself a skilled enough player to know I don’t need the best gear. Last night, for example, my elementalist took on and beat four Ettins by himself. Not a big deal, except that they were four levels higher than my character, and I managed to keep myself from being downed through a series of well-planned tactical moves and well-timed dodges.
Gear does not make a good player. Skill does. I don’t need gear to win at this game. So, I fail to see the connection between gear and skill.
So, the title of this thread is “Fractal of the Mists destroyed PvE,” but none of the things you listed is PvE. WvW is not PvE (it’s WvW). FotM is not technically the PvE world…it’s a dungeon.
So, how again did it kill PvE?
Pochibella is right. I noticed recently that even people who logged in during the same day as a server reset would show up as “unknown” in our guild. I think the server just loses track of where you last were when there was a reset.
I agree with the OP. In the game, most people are simply enjoying the game and don’t have time for all the drama and complaints. They are playing and having fun.
I’m not saying that some complaints aren’t legitimate (they are), but the way they are presented isn’t helpful and makes a lot of the posters sound like spoiled children (again, not all of them…some posts are very constructive and point out flaws that others might not consider, so this isn’t a slam against anyone who complains about something).
You guys you preach gloom and doom would make a great asset to the political arena. Your talent for focusing the public’s attention on issues that aren’t there, trying to stir up frenzy are quite impressive. Try this on a Saturday night, not a Monday morning, you might be more convincing.
Agreed.
I’ve been hearing that this game has been dying since right after the three-day headstart, when people initially didn’t research what the game was supposed to be like. From there, every week, there’s some new reason why the game is dying.
First, it was dying because there was no gear treadmill and the game needed that to survive. Then it was dying because there was a possible gear treadmill and no game needs that. Some people are never happy. It cracks me up.
Ranger, definitely. I know some people don’t like them, but I find that with the right weapon combinations they can be deadly.
The one time events are awesome, and I hope they keep doing them. I just hope they work out the kinks in the system and reduce the number of bugs. There were some issues with the Lost Shores events that made it run far less smoothly than the Halloween events.
This i could understand…….BUT it is like this the last month or 2.
Then you should change servers. I’m not having these issues at all.
There is also the issue that this is Thanksgiving week and some people are already gearing up for travel. The local college is having their last day of classes and having everyone leave the campus by tomorrow night. That makes for some very busy people who might otherwise be playing.
OP,…When the group dynamic event are undoable, the way point are all in contention and the open world zones are void of players and your repair bill are stacking up because players are whisked away into pocked 5 man dungeons in pursuit of the best items in the game let us know in a month or so how this has effected your game
It probably won’t affect it at all, since there’s a group of players who just don’t care and want to play casually. I doubt this will be much of an issue.
Okay, I’m confused about these statements, so please clarify. (And no, I’m not trying to be snarky, I really want you to clarify):
These players like their proficiency in the game to be determined only by their own skill.
To achieve that, these players need best in slot items, otherwise they feel kittened.
Why do players who want their proficiency in the game to be determined by their own skill need the best in slot items?
I like to think I’m a skilled player. I’m always figuring out new ways to use skills, actively using my dodging abilities and figuring out the best way to do things with each profession…but I don’t feel I always need the best gear to get along.
Am I different set of player or did I miss something?
Honestly, its great if the new mechanics dont affect you. However, Anet does need to focus on many different playstyles, and if they are creating things that are negatively impacting parts of their playerbase, the players have a right to voice their dissent and Anet can listen and decide if the points are relevant enough to warrant a change.
I said already that people have legitimate complaints and that this thread isn’t to make light of those complaints. It’s to show that there are a group of people who play this game who probably aren’t going to be affected by how things turn out either way.
By all means, legitimate concerns should be voiced. No one is saying otherwise.
Well, it is Monday morning. I think a lot of people are at work or school. Wait a little while.
I think one of the main concerns is the ascended impact in WvW since the only way you can currently get Ascended stats is by running PvE content.
As I said in my original post, there are some legitimate complaints to be had. I get that. And for some people and their play-styles, they might be affected by some of the changes.
I’m also not saying I am for the direction the game is heading necessarily…just that it won’t likely affect the group of casual players who just play for the joy of exploration and leveling.
I didn’t insult anyone. I said if people want to play a certain way, more power to them. My game doesn’t change because they want to do elite dungeon runs with other people or engage in escalating gear wars. Some people like that kind of thing.
This thread clearly isn’t for you, anyway, from the sounds of it.
There’s a lot of complaining going on within these forums. I understand the concerns, so I’m not trying to make light of anyone’s legitimate gripes. That’s not what this thread is about.
Rather, I’m here to represent the group of people whose game isn’t going to change one way or the other, no matter how this whole thing turns out. I’m here to be their voice and give them a place to say how they feel about it.
Here’s what I mean:
I generate a character and I level them to 80. Along the way, I don’t do much of the personal story and I don’t bother with dungeons. The game for me is all about PvE exploration, fighting enemies, engaging in dynamic events and doing my own thing. I’m not a PvP player.
For people like me, it’s about the sense of accomplishment of learning a new character, doing fun things, meeting people and not worrying about my gear or whatever. I played other games like this (even WoW), and despite people trying to tell me I should be pursuing gear and doing raids, I had fun anyway doing my own thing.
If other people want to be involved in escalating gear wars and elite dungeon runs, more power to them. It’s not for me. My game won’t change because none of these things are required to enjoy the PvE environment. What I wear has no effect on other people when I’m out doing dynamic events or jumping puzzles.
If you’re with me on this, respond here.
My 80 is a Ranger and does spectacularly well against PvE mobs. Not sure why some folks don’t like them. I think it’s a great profession.
He’s completely bugged on Dragonbrand. I tried every overflow server I could get on just to see if he would work on one of them…but nope…he doesn’t work anywhere.
I play an Elementalist and most of my time is spent doing PvE alone.
In my experiences, Elementalists are the hardest class to solo. It can be done, but compared to other classes, you are going to die a lot. I can’t figure out why, but it just seems to be the case.
Decided to join a guild, but it looks like most people are max level and are doing max level things. I haven’t been able to get a stable dungeon party as many people seem to leave mid-dungeon.
Then, I would say you joined a bad guild. Because people at max level have the choice to help you and are choosing not to help you. It would be different if they were lower than your level, but they aren’t. There’s no reason for someone in your guild not to help you.
Join another guild, that’s my suggestion.
I really want to like GW2, but i’m just not having fun with the game. I’m not sure if it’s the class i’m playing, the fact that I don’t really know what i’m doing in game, or if this game just isn’t for me.
I would definitely try another class and then try to join another guild (or, at least, get the members of your guild to actually help you out…since GW2 actually has the benefit of allowing them to be in the same level range as you).
Best of luck to you.
Thanks. That explains it pretty well. I’m sure if I played more WvW (I have played some, but not a whole lot) then I would probably know more about it. As it stands, I’m sure I’m not the only one who doesn’t quite know.
I guess I’m confused since I only play PvE, but what exactly is the benefit of even having this title, if any? Just to have a big icon that blocks people’s sight?
Actually, a better video card would go a long way. Memory as well.
I have similar specs and can run at the highest graphic settings with decent frame rate. What’s different on my system is that I have a much better video card and 8 GB of RAM.
So, consider those two options.
EDIT:
For reference, I have an AMD Radeon 6770 video card (1GB of GDDR5 memory). It also occurs to me that if you upgrade your video card you might also need to upgrade your power supply if you only have the stock one (which is usually around 300-350W).

I got someone to test it out by asking them to look for me, and they said that they couldn’t see it…so you are right, it only affects me.
In this case, though, it’s still happening, so I don’t think it’s a glitch. Even when on land, she clearly has no underwear on. Not sure if others can see it or not. I will have to test it out.
The title may be slightly misleading, since I’m not 100% sure if this bug affects only the Sylvari, but I noticed tonight when swimming underwater, that my Sylvari female was not wearing underwear. I’m providing screenshots of this, along with a screenshot of the armor I was wearing just in case it is tied to the armor.
I didn’t see this reported on the first couple of pages, so I don’t know if its been mentioned.
The last picture shows the armor in question. For all I know, though, it might happen with all armors.

This is all good news and tells me what I already knew…that ArenaNet are on the ball and some of the impatient folks who are complaining so loudly simply aren’t giving them enough time to implement changes.
