My wife had the same issue, and I fixed it by disabling the superfetch feature of Windows (which is an abomination that needs to die in a fire). It has been a headache since it was introduced in Windows Vista.

What the superfetch service does is load your commonly used programs into memory so that they are available the moment you need them. For example, if you use Firefox as your browser, it will load Firefox into memory when Windows is first booted to the desktop.

As time passes, it will accumulate more programs to put in memory by tracking what programs you use the most. Its goal is to utilize all your memory; because the idea is that unused memory is wasted. And this would be a good idea, if Windows was efficient in releasing the memory when it’s needed, but it isn’t. It’s horrible at it and always has been.

Turning this service off frees up your memory. The downside is that loading of commonly used applications may be a little slower (though the reality is that it tends to only be slower by a second or two…maybe three…in my experience). In my opinion, it’s worth it.

To turn it off in Windows 10, open the Services desktop app (you can do that by typing “services” in your Cortana search bar). Then, scroll down and find Superfetch. Right-click on it and press “Stop” to stop the services. To disable it completely, go to Properties and set it to Disabled (this will not affect your system in any adverse way other than the way I described above, and you can turn it back on if you change your mind).

I cannot guarantee this will work for you. I am merely letting you know what worked for my wife. I didn’t have the issue because I always disable the superfetch service whenever I reinstall Windows.

Let me know what your results are.

On top of that, quests interacted with each other. For example, I did a quest for a demon, and then I had to do another quest to kill that demon, in order to atone for my sins.

Events in GW2 often trigger off each other, sometimes culminating into huge events. It’s the same, in a different package. The big difference (and an important one to me) is that events in GW2 can be completed by large groups of people. Try to get 45 people to join in on your WoW quest.

atm I don’t play the game at all but when I play I only can bare pvp since my finger start hurting from all that clicking to salvaging stuff. And that issue makes me a once extreme GW2 gamer to a extreme Casual GW2 player with monthly breaks.

It might be a weird reason but that’s my main issue

Personally, I wish they would go back to the old daily system, which allowed you to complete various tasks in any part of the world. The old “Event” daily had you doing events…anywhere. Same with collecting, killing monsters, whatever. It was easier to do.

For all the changes they made to make the game easier (like not making people feed cows, which wasn’t hard to begin with), they made the dailies harder to accomplish, especially if the requirements take you someplace your character hasn’t been.

He doesn’t wanna play a game where he hasn’t seen a lot of people playing it, so he doesn’t wanna invest time into a game where it could potentially be bad.

Two problems here:

1) If he hasn’t played it, he has no idea if people play it or not. If you tell him people are playing it, that should be his best evidence, as you’re actually a player. Is your word not good enough for him?

2) All games can potentially be bad, even highly-rated games. Not every game will be everyone’s cup of tea. By this notion, he should never play any games ever. Obviously you like it, if you’re trying to get him to play, so again..is your word not good enough for him?

How about this then:

There are enough people to justify sinking money into an expansion. Given the cost involved, I doubt there would have been a paid expansion if the company wasn’t expecting to remake its money and then some.

Play for Free Confirmed [merged]

ProphetSword.5427

I’m amazed at people who think they are owed something because they bought the game three years ago and now people can play a limited version for free. They are overlooking the benefits of having free players around:

  • Free players are more players in the world for you to interact with, make friends with, add to your guild, etc.
  • Free players may buy HoT if they like what they see, which is income for Anet. Income = good, as the more income Anet has, the more they will be able to spend on the game in the future (it’s simple math, folks).
  • Free players are massively restricted compared to people who paid for the game.

The logic is weird. My niece bought the game for $10 when it was on sale. Does Anet owe me $50, being as I paid $60 back in mid 2012? Nope. The benefit is that my niece can now adventure with me. And other people. And spend her money on gems.

In the last three years, I have taken about six months off from the game. So, I’ve played pretty regularly for 2 1/2 years. I started with the 3-day headstart. My wife is the same (same amount of time off, also started the same day).

That was $120 out of our pockets. We have both played 2 1/2 years worth of GW2, so 2 1/2 × 2 accounts is 5 years of play time. In 5 play years, you have 60 months. $120 / 60 months is $2 a month or $1 per account per month (not counting gems we have bought from time to time).

Compared to WoW, which is $14.99 a month, I don’t think Anet owes me a dime. I probably owe them money at this point, as I’ve been having far too much fun in my time here. That’s precisely why I still buy gems sometimes. Compared to other MMOs, it’s a savings. And I’d rather play this game anyway.

Most people need to be more open minded about things and let Anet do Anet and not go on the forums being a keyboard warrior saying that you will quit if the game adds a certain feature.

Anet is doing Anet. They said from day one that mounts were something that they didn’t want in the game; because mounts trivialize the exploration aspect. If they wanted mounts in the game, don’t you think they would have put them in over three years ago instead of spending time creating waypoints?

  • Combat system
I love action combat system (so, again, stop suggesting WoW). The best action combat system I have played is Monster Hunter, and the second best doesn’t even come close. MH has no “dodge skill” that will make you invulnerable during the animation. “Dodge” is simply a method of moving. You move out from the attack, you dodge it. You move into the attack, you get hit. That’s the “dodge” part.
Then, the mobs part. In GW2, it is impossible to dodge every melee attacks because the mobs just come to you and attack without any pre animation. Almost every mobs have no pre animation. Only a few mobs and bosses have pre animation for their attack. In addition, we can only dodge twice at a time. So, I don’t even bother to dodge now, unless it is a big attack. In a result, GW2 is not so “action” compared to games like MH, Tera and Dragon Nest.

You and I must be playing different games. Dodging is an essential element to combat, especially if you are outnumbered, outleveled or fighting a tough opponent (like when you solo a champion). Mastering it is important if you want to survive fights, as you can’t just stand in one spot and tank damage constantly. It is only one element to the fight, though (other elements include deflecting damage, interrupting attacks, confusing your opponent, etc).

Timing and mastery of your skills is everything in this game and is the difference between people who get murdered in a couple of hits from a champion and people who can solo them. When I see combatants who aren’t dodging or constantly moving, I can usually predict that they will not succeed unless they have a lot of help.

ProphetSword.5427

I completely disagree with nearly everything the OP had to say.

After reading this page i din’t know to cry or to laugh.
-we’re pushing the limits of what is possible in massive online games
With what ? Text Boxes to click through and 2 year old maps ?

There are a lot of innovative ideas in GW2. And two years later, they’re still innovative. People think just because they’ve grown tired of something that it isn’t still good. But it is. Otherwise, why would you have been playing this game for so long?

-Our mission is to fulfill the potential of the MMO by creating a game world that constantly grows and evolves.
Growing where and what ?The Sun Island and 1 new dungeon path ?
I don’t see any constantly growing contend beside the gem store

Really? You didn’t notice the Fractals or any of the other changes going on in the world? How about the fact that Lion’s Arch got destroyed or that Kessex Hills evolved due to events? Seems there’s a new section in Divnity’s Reach you can explore that didn’t used to be there too. I’m sure there’s more I’m missing.

-Whether you’re discovering sunken ruins…….
I have no clue what they are talking about. The 2 sunken building at Lions Arch ?

Yes. Because surely there are no sunken ruins in Orr.

-wandering through magnificent cities……….
Maybe i have a different view of “wandering” or “Cities”
But walking through Jennah Town needs 30 seconds and and where the other magnificent cities are must be explained to me. They can’t talk about the Charr or Asura blob of city. Beside that… isn’t kind of life going on required to call it a city ?

The cities in GW2 are magnificent. The newness of them has long worn away, but when this game was new, I spent a lot of time wandering those cities and losing time just checking everything out. Sorry you’ve become jaded about it.

-Guild Wars 2 is designed to encourage cooperation and exploration…..
This a really good one. I am extremely encouraged to explore… but there is nothing to explore since 2 years ?
I really like that GW2 is designed to encourage… but you guys should also deliver something to explore.

There’s plenty to explore. I still find new things I’ve missed in two years of playing, even on maps I know really well. I’ll sometimes find a passageway I didn’t know existed or something underwater I never paid attention to. Not everything that can be found in the game is next to a point of interest.

All this makes me actually sad because it shows what potential GW2 has but sadly it’s completely wasted. Nothing feels really done and more like someone was forced to do it instead having passion and excitement.

I feel the opposite. GW2 was clearly made with love. It shows in everything in the game and was really obvious when the game was first released. You just don’t see it anymore.

Mix that with the level of quality GW1 veterans are used to and you get a dangerous mix of disappointment and anger.

I really dislike when people assume they speak for all GW1 veterans; because, they don’t. They don’t speak for me at all. I’m not disappointed or angry at all over GW2.

Maybe it’s time to face the truth and admit that they can’t handle it and make way for
some old GW1 staff and people who actually care

That’s just harsh and unjustified.

A Veteran's Leveling Experience

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProphetSword.5427

ProphetSword.5427

Not to steal the thunder of the person who started the thread, but I’m a veteran as well, and I decided to start a Ranger and run them through the new leveling process as well. Last night I did the 1-10 run in Queensdale. Here are a few comments I have to add to the mix:

  • It was disconcerting at first not being able to buy gathering materials or recycling kits. Apparently you can still gather and recycle, but you can’t buy the tools anywhere in the low level areas. I fixed this by going into Divinity’s Reach and buying what I needed there. It means I will have to go out of my way by about a minute with each character when I run into the nearest city to get the things I need, but it’s not a deal breaker. It did make doing the dailies tough until I figured it out, though.
  • Not being able to get the Skill Points seems…dumb. Not only do they help boost the XP you get while leveling, they can be a lot of fun. I can live with it if I have to, but I really hope we get the option to get them at low levels if we want. Why not just remove them from the low level areas altogether if we can’t interact with them? (Also, what happens if someone high level comes along and starts a fight and we join in…do we get the skill point then?)
  • Not being able to fight underwater also seems weird, but that’s probably because I’m used to being able to do it. It does take some time for a new player to adjust to, since it’s a whole other skill set, and I feel the whole system needs some revamping anyway. Not a deal breaker, since I’ve noticed a lot of players tend to avoid underwater fights anyway.
  • I’ve heard rumors that the diving goggles don’t work at low levels either. That should be changed back immediately. It’s not that hard to figure out, and it’s not like a pop-up box can’t explain it. This was never a requirement for leveling, and it was fun. Changing this was a mistake, i think.
  • Unlocking the weapons one step at a time wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought. Even playing a class I knew really well didn’t seem to hamper my ability to get along okay. And it did make things more challenging…and I know a lot of people have wanted that for a long time. I’m okay with this change.
  • Getting bonus stuff when leveling up = good. I have no issues with that change (why would anyone).

So, there’s definitely some adjustments that need to be done, both on the part of Anet and with the players. I’d like to think there’s a compromise in there that everyone could agree on.

However, I will say that some of the changes to the Trading Post are terrible. I like the new look and the way we can sort things, but having to click to sell instantly and pull a bar across to sell everything is tedious and counter-productive. So, I hope they work to improve that.

Looking forward to hearing the report of levels 11+.

Please bring back Caledon’s auction house. You turned our npc’s into weapons npcs instead of AH npc’s! Why punish us Sylvari?

Every starting area got this change, not just the Sylvari.

Now we have to go to an over crowded laggy Grove to buy and sell. And please bring back the sell items from tab option.

“over crowded” and “Grove” are two words I never thought I’d hear together. In my two years of play time, the Grove has almost always been empty compared to the other starting areas (at least on my server). Not sure why.

And, as others have said, you can still sell from your inventory tab.

I think people are upset because things changed to something they’re not used to. If these changes had been part of how things were done at launch and the game had always been this way from the beginning, nobody would have cared about any of it. It would just be part of the leveling process to eventually open things as you leveled.

What I love is veteran players who have a stable full of 80th level characters they play all the time who complain or quit over this, when it doesn’t affect an 80th level character at all.

Guild Wars 2 is a great game. The recent changes shouldn’t concern you, especially if you don’t know how the game played before the patch. If these features had been in place at launch, no one would have an issue with them. That is also why new players will not have an issue with them.

As to the game dying, only time will tell that. But I don’t believe it. I didn’t believe it two years ago when ascended items came into being, and I didn’t believe it when the champ trains were nerfed, and I don’t believe it now. Some folks will leave. That’s okay. I’m not even sure why it’s a big deal. How many experienced players die in the first 5 levels anyway when playing PvE? I can probably count on one hand the number of times that I’ve died between levels 1-5 in the last two years, and it was probably because of an event where I got in over my head or tried to go way above my level (which I do sometimes to create a challenge).

You will probably not notice the difference. But I new player might welcome the idea that something new happens that is pointed out to them once they achieve level 5. And is it just me, or have there been a lot of new players asking questions recently? This can’t be a bad thing.

Caledon Forest tends to have a low population anymore (wasn’t always that way). Only place with a lower population is Metrica Province. People tend to run over to Queensdale. That’s probably due to the champion trains.

There’s a big feature update coming on April 15th that will include a mega-server upgrade for the low level areas, so I imagine after that date you will start to see less empty beginning areas.

People tend to gravitate to certain areas of the game. Sometimes, you’ll encounter lots of people, and sometimes you won’t. If you want to know if people are around, just start chatting in map chat. Most people are friendly and will respond.

[Suggestion] Mounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProphetSword.5427

ProphetSword.5427

In this game, mounts would be nothing but trouble. If you are someone who wants mounts, answer these important questions:

1) How would mounts affect WvW? Have you given any thought to how it might change the landscape of how things work in that portion of the game?

2) If people are riding mounts through an area, how will that effect the scaling of dynamic events when the event registers more people are in the area?

3) How would you handle players on mounts being hit by enemies? Are they thrown from their mount? Dismounted? Can they fight from the mount?

4) How would you be affected if you were in the middle of a jumping puzzle and someone attempted to do it with a mount and was blocking your view?

5) What happens when you go underwater? Are there going to be underwater mounts too?

6) How do you deal with the added animations needed in heavy areas (like world bosses) when people have mounts? The resources for the mounts aren’t free.

7) How do you deal with the issue of people’s mounts blocking important NPCs (I’ve seen this issue in many other MMOs, and it’s a real pain).

8) Besides looking cool, what is the distinct advantage of having a mount over not having a mount? If you get no speed boost, why is it important?

9) The development time used to create decent mounts would likely take away from other features or additional content in GW2. How do you justify that mounts are more important than other things?

Answer these questions and let me know.

The things this game does better than the others out there (and I have played a lot of MMOs, including taking breaks from this game to try some others out):

- Dynamic Events: I still love when I’m exploring an area I haven’t seen a lot and things start happening around me I didn’t expect. Or when NPCs run up to me to let me know that things are going on. Or an attack suddenly happens someplace that I thought was going to be 100% safe. Other MMOs tend to “say” that things are happening, like wolves are attacking…but they’re just wandering around doing nothing most of the time.

- Jumping Puzzles: Jumping puzzles are awesome. I love them. I want more. Don’t see those too often in other MMOs.

- No Party Required: Another great innovation. I don’t need to join someone’s party to get involved in what they’re doing. And they don’t have to join mine if they want to help me with something. I mean, I’m more than happy to party up with people, and have done it many times, but if I’m just passing through the area and need help with a champion, I like that others will come and help me because they will get credit too.

- Raising the Downed and Dead: In another MMO, if I’m not a healer, I guess you are completely out of luck. But, in GW2, regardless of my profession, I can help you (and I probably will). That’s because I know that the surest way to beat a tough enemy or event is to have more help, so I always devote time to getting people back on their feet (and I know I’m not alone, I watch others do it too).

- Minor Death Penalties: I hate penalties from dying. Having to run back to your body or losing experience points is a terrible mechanic (not to mention losing items, which can also happen in some MMOs). GW2 didn’t invent the minor death penalty, but I thank them for including it. Worst that happens is you have to port somewhere and pay a minor fee to fix your armor. I call that a win.

There’s a ton of other things…but I’m with the OP. I’ve played other games since GW2 has come out (and I played a ton before it came out), and there’s something in the formula of this game that works. It isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely the closest to it that I’ve found.

Opinions will vary, naturally.

Increase of grind. Lack of new content.

You could try challenging yourself in a way that wouldn’t require as much grind. For example:

- Attempt to get world completion in no armor at all. Choose whatever weapons you want. Never buy armor of any kind. Imagine the prestige involved in that, when you can tell folks that you made it through the entire world (including WvWvW) without any armor to slow you down. And, since that character didn’t need armor, I guess you didn’t need to grind for any. Problem solved.

Gratefully - Thank You

Guild Wars 2 is my favorite MMORPG of all time. There have been other good ones, but there’s something about GW2 that gets a lot of things right.

New players coming in, community please

Hey, I’m pretty new to the game. May I ask what is a champion train? I notice a lot of people running around together in queensdale, I’m assuming this is the train your talking about? In any case, should I help them kill monsters while they are around?

To be fair, you wouldn’t really be helping them (there is usually enough people to take down the champions without much of a challenge). But, if you want to do it for your own amusement, then you should join for a while and travel with them. I wouldn’t get too caught up in it, though. There are much better things to do in the game.

Who still does this?

I do this quite frequently. I was on a level 40 ranger the other day and soloed the wasp soldier and wasp queen in Fields of Ruin. It was fun. Then I did an event in one of the charr areas at level, that had multiple champions in them which I soloed.

Though solo might be the wrong word because I had helpful NPCs. lol

Yeah, I enjoy doing stuff like that. I don’t usually follow the herd.

Vayne, you’re my hero.
