I think the Queensdale champ train is damaging to the game in terms of new players.

They can do Orr. They can do Frostgorge. Instead they want the easy way by doing a tutorial zone without having to think for themselves. And when someone new comes along playing the game as intended, people jump down their throats.

Now, that’s incredibly off-putting and a terrible first impression for new gamers. I wouldn’t be surprised if the champ train in Queensdale gets destroyed by increasing the times for them to spawn by a lot.

I have to agree with this. There have been many times where an exploring group or player found a champion and decided to take it on…only to have someone call them out or verbally abuse them for breaking the precious train.

If I was a new player and this happened to me, it wouldn’t leave me with a very good impression.

Who still does this?

Yep, I still play that way too. I enjoy rushing into a group of enemies who are four levels above me and have a veteran with them…especially when I’m gloating over their dead bodies a few minutes later. Of course, sometimes they’re gloating over my body…but that’s just the way it goes.

It’s a great idea. The issue, though, is that it isn’t likely to change.

Whereas I go out of my way to be nice to new players, teach them new things, help them out when they’re in trouble, etc…not everyone does.

Especially the champion trains. The players doing the train think they own the champions. I’ve seen them be pretty venomous to people when all they really had to do was shrug their shoulders and move on.

The community in this game has really started to go downhill the last few months. It’s really sad.

that IS the problem, even “non-elitists” per say are doing this nowadays, most people would rather finish their run a few mintues earlier and face the consiequences than get new potential players for future runs…

Except not everyone is like that. I wouldn’t kick someone for being new. But, the problem with your post is that you’re likely not going to reach the people who are doing it. The forums only represent a very small portion of the population in the game. So, it’s not likely to change.

I really hope not, I am coming back from a long hiatus and leveling up is IMPOSSIBLE because no one plays the game anymore so DE’s are literally impossible to do, its probably more xp efficient to grind mobs than attempt DE’s.

So all you are doing is hearts, and if this is “endgame” then this is the most boring game ever made…

Have you tried getting on map chat to ask for help? Maybe someone will come and aid you.

Nothing is impossible. What profession are you playing? Some professions have it easier than others, but ultimately, it comes down to understanding your class.

Have you played any of your personal story? That can assist you in leveling up. You can also explore your starting city and complete it (as well as some of the others). That should afford you some xp at no risk.

And you can do a lot more than hearts. Exploration. Dynamic events. Holiday Content. Jumping puzzles. Living Story. Crafting. Gathering. Guild events. WvWvW.

Have you tried joining a guild? Or two?

thanks for the correction ProphetSword,

my ram is working properly and as i said before, i have no problems of any crashing whatsoever, while running new mmo’s or current mmo’s, except this one.

If that checks out, other issues that might cause regular crashes include something overheating, a driver that is conflicting with something, etc. What does it say when it crashes?

He didn’t ask how much RAM you had. He asked if it was working properly, which is a completely different question. Bad RAM can make most anything crash.

Tell him that he should come and play because it will be fun for the both of you to run together and kill stuff. I mean, what other reason does there need to be?

I wasn’t a fan of GW1. I bought it, I didn’t get it, and a shelved it.

Then, two years later, I bump into a friend who tells me he is a hardcore GW1 player and asks me if I want to play. Because he’s my friend, I give it a shot again. He taught me everything about the game, all the things I didn’t bother to figure out for myself, and he made me a GW1 fan. I resisted, but eventually found a lot to love.

And I’m glad I played with him. Not just because I discovered how much I loved GW1, but because it gave me a reason to spend time with him. The last time I talked to him was during a GW1 session (over Internet chat). We had a blast. He died the next day.

So yeah, tell him that running around with your friends and having a blast is what life is about. If he enjoys his time with you, he’ll grow to love the game because the experience is what matters.

Virtue of Justice will cause a flaming graphic to appear above the skill and weapon bars (it’s hard to miss). It doesn’t appear in the screenshot, so I’m going to assume that’s not what you’re seeing (also, in my experience, you don’t see flames shooting out of the character’s hands like that either).

So yeah, you’re special.

Maybe you should give yourself an interesting goal and try to complete it. Try these suggestions to see if you can add something interesting to your game play (and achieve some bragging rights for yourself):

Challenge in Leveling:

  • Level from 1-80 with a character who refuses to wear armor of any kind.
  • Level from 1-80 with a character who won’t use any trait points.
  • Level from 1-80 with a character who only uses weapon skills and one healing skill.

Challenge in Exploration:

  • Do a speed run of an area to see how fast you can get 100% completion. Try to get a better time on other maps.
  • Find some people and play a game of hide-and-seek on a map. See if you can hide longer than everyone else.
  • Find a partner and have a contest to see who can collect 100 of something fastest (ores, certain plants, etc).

Challenge in Combat:

  • Fight monsters with only an off-hand weapon. See how long you can survive.
  • Go into WvW without any armor or weapons and see how long you can outrun the enemy before dying. Then, see if you can improve on that time.

In a game with this kind of free exploration, you can really make your own fun if you want. Try to think of things to do and then do them. Sometimes the reward is just in the success of doing something.

Nothing wrong with a warrior. If you don’t want easy, try a different build. I’m currently running a rifle-wielding warrior, and the damage output is far less than the standard berserker warrior that everyone and their brother seems to play. Far more fun too, as the challenge is to stay at a distance, so, moving around a lot and dodging are keys to survival.

ProphetSword.5427

As others have said, it really depends upon what kind of game you want to play.

For me, the game is about logging in and having fun. I only do the grindy stuff when I want to, I never feel like I have to do them (dailies, monthlies, achievements, etc). Everything is optional, loot is nice but not necessary, leveling is easy.

If you realize that everything is optional, you’ll have a blast when you stop chasing the carrots around. I find it interesting that so many people complained about wanting those carrots when the game launched, and now that they have the optional carrots they asked for, they complain that they feel “forced” to do things, when it’s really all in their own heads.

So…which kind of player are you?

I can tell you this: If you want to save yourself a lot of time in the future, you can back up your install easily enough. Once it’s done, copy the entire folder to a portable hard drive or USB stick large enough to hold it. Then, if you ever need to reinstall, just copy it back and run it, and it will update from there.

That’s sort of dirty. You would also need to copy registry entries and possible system files it installs to other directories. It might work now but it might not work in the future. I’ve seen mmo patches make changes to registry keys (other games), it happens. I haven’t really tracked install files with this game client, I’ve gotten lazy perhaps since another mmo I sub to offers backups from within the patching program, as well as a repair tool that actually works. But if you do it this way, don’t be surprised if you wind up needing to re-install at some point.

No. It’s exactly how it worked in GW1 since the game came out and there was never any issues with that for the entire life of the game more than 7 years after release.

As far as I’m aware only the screen shot folder is outside of the gw2.dat file.

That’s pretty much been my experience as well, so I’m glad that others know that this shortcut trick isn’t “dirty” in the slightest. It’s a real time-saver, is what it is.

I doubt it. When you first start the game, it adds the appropriate registry entries and some files in your documents directory if they don’t already exist (if you’re on Windows). I haven’t officially “installed” the game since it came out, and I tend to do a system wipe every two months…so I’ve done probably eight since last year. Never had a problem, and those registry entries currently exist, even though I’m still running from my backup copy and didn’t bother to actually install it.

The original Guild Wars did the same thing. I’ve got it backed up too, and I can install it in a drop of the hat by simply copying the files off my portable hard drive. It takes care of the rest for me.

I’m not suggesting you do this with other programs or games. I’m just saying it works for this one.

This method will also work if you want to put it onto another computer (I used this method to put the game on my laptop, my wife’s computer and her laptop (she has her own account)). Saved a lot of time.

If you’re like me, update the folder that you backed up once a month, and you really won’t have to jump through as many hoops if you have a hard drive failure or need to wipe your drive for some reason.

I’m not sure I understand what you’re trying to say. Getting to the dungeons is pretty trivial. The first dungeon (Ascalonian Catacombs) is in the beginning Charr area, meaning any character capable of going into that dungeon will not have an issue getting to that dungeon. There is plenty of information about getting to that dungeon provided in an email you receive when you turn level 30. It will even show you where it is located so you can find it.

As far as what’s coming, a lot of discussion is done by the devs to let us know what’s coming. You just have to pay attention and stay on top of these things.

So, I’m not sure what it is you want.

Why is it that players who only pve complain constantly about having to get map completion on the 4 wvw maps, while the players who only wvw never complain about having to get map completion on the 20+ pve maps?

Because most people who play PvE are scared to step into WvW for fear that someone might kill them. Monsters in PvE are predictable and telegraph their big moves. Players in WvW, though, will stomp you into the ground before you even know what hit you if you aren’t prepared for it. I don’t think most average players can handle it. They say “I don’t like PvP,” but what they really mean is “I’m scared I’ll get beat.”

Working content or broken content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProphetSword.5427

No, it isn’t. Don’t presume to speak for the whole community.

Asking the community a question is not not “presuming to speak for the community.” And as far as nothing being resolved, see my above post. Or go take a look at the sixteen thread in the bug forum about engineer turrets. Or about the kit/back item clipping issue that has existed since the first beta and hasn’t even been mentioned, let alone worked on.

When you say that this is what the “community wants,” you make the presumption to speak on behalf of the community. You don’t know what the community wants. This is what you want. So, yes, you are attempting to speak for the community, which is why you are receiving negative responses.

No, it isn’t. Don’t presume to speak for the whole community.

“You cannot, no matter how much you want to, deny that the Living Story is consistently buggy and broken, and its mere existence pulls development time and resources away from much needed fixes to existing content.”

The Living Story is not consistently buggy and broken. This is a complete exaggeration. And, they have said time and time again that the Living Story team is different than the team that is working on bugs.

Also, you do no credit to the folks who have probably worked tirelessly (and thanklessly) to troubleshoot and repair bugs and issues since the day the game launched. You act as though nothing has been resolved at all.

Let me help explain it to some people here, the people opposed to dueling don’t want to look bad or like a coward when someone asks them to duel and they decline. That’s it, there’s no other real reason, simply put, they don’t want the feature implemented because it makes them uncomfortable.

+1 for dueling. It’s fun.

Or, maybe they’re people like me, who have played in other games that allowed dueling and got annoyed by it.

There’s nothing more annoying than this: Someone asks you to duel, you politely decline. They request a duel from you again. You politely decline again. They do it again and again and again. Then, they start sending you tells: “Duel me! What are you? Afraid?” You say: “No, I’m just busy and don’t want to duel.” So, they do it again and again and again and again.

I know I’m not the only one this has happened to. Any game that has dueling but doesn’t have the option to block duel requests doesn’t last long on my hard drive.

I have dueled. I have both won and lost. It can be fun. But 99.5% of the time, I have better things to do.

But, seriously, if a couple of people want to kill each other for kicks, go for it.
