Gameplay wise? Asura seem to have a skill that might benefit the Necro (Pain Inverter), but to be honest… You’ll rarely use racial skills anyways. You usually have better options.

Achievement points aren’t just “a little something extra” for some people.

That’s their problem. No content is gated behind it, so no, nobody has to do them.

For each boss, it’s one chest per character per day so people have no reason to go elsewhere to kill the boss again.

IMO, it’s maybe your server which is over-populated during such events.

This. The chests are globally “soulbound”. Even if you guest on a different server you can’t get that chest again in the same day. So, either you were extremely unlucky, or it’s just your server being overpopulated.

  • Make “Stow pet” a permanent ability – Can only be used out of combat. The pet only “unstows” when you use the ability again, regardless of whether you enter combat or not. Let us enter combat alone.
  • Give the Ranger individual buffs when the pet is stowed only. There. You can now balance the ranger with pet and without, separately, to allow for both playstyles, without risking overbuffing either.
  • Make “Guard” a core pet ability (F5?) to offer a modicum of control over the kittening thing, allowing players to bypass a lot of inherent and large flaws in AI a bit better.
  • Look at our traits…. Some of them need fixing desperately, like the minor traits in the power tree.

Food Change + Sigil of Blood

I’ve seen Sigil of Blood working, but even with SoB and the changed pies, they have to increase numbers somewhere for me to do that. There is just too much burst to worry about that a 375 heal isn’t going to save me from.

Sigil of Blood isn’t meant to be a perma-heal. 30% chance to to gain 453 health on a critical (0.1 scaling with healing power) and dealing an additional 452 damage to the enemy is quite noticeable in specific builds. It’s really good in builds with crit damage AND natural regen or high defense (such as those possible with warrior or guardian). It is a permanent fixture on my warrior.

Thief is, in it’s core, a hit and run build. You’re not gonna tank damage. You’re going to run in, spike it, and run out. Thus you maximize your spike, which indirectly maximizes your survivability by guaranteeing you’re in the line of fire as shortly as possible.

RNG is good!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

Ok, i can understand that, HOWEVER what many people don’t realize is that, on the opposite side, an MMO completely dry of RNG would be utterly boring, streamlined, and just not fun.

Wrong. Guess again.

What if:
-Every enemy dropped the same amount of gold

Sounds good.

-Anything you would do earns a streamlined amount of “equip” tokens you use to buy stuff

As long as the pay off is equivalent to the investment, ok.

-All the chests had the same thing in it for everybody, ever

Not every chest is the same. Reward needs to equal investment. Also different chests can have different rewards. That wouldn’t be RNG, so long as the same chest always gave the same reward under the same conditions.

-While entering fractals , you could choose the facets you want

Cool.

-Crits and precision removed

Good. So long as the game is re-balanced for it.

-Procs removed, instead you get a flat, lesser and underwhelming effect on any attack

If you do it poorly, such that they are underwhelming, yes, that would be bad. But that would be your flaw. Not the lack of a RNG.

If done right, good. Namely, procs could happen every x hits instead of a random chance. Instead of 30% to trigger, it would just trigger every third attack. Much better.

-In pvp, you would only fight people of your same class, items and skill level

That’s just stupid. That has nothing to do with RNG. Strawman extraordinaire.

-in WvW, unless two groups are composed by the same exact number of people, they can’t attack each other

Again, nothing to do with RNG. It’s not a random computer dice roll that decides how many people you fight.

-Map, daily, monthly bonus item rewards removed

…Why? Those aren’t random. Hell, you’ll be able to choose your own soon enough.

-etc… (make your own, there are hundreds more)

Yeah… You don’t really understand what an RNG is…

Is it unreasonable to ask you to log in 5 days and do a daily throughout an entire month? “February is shorter!!” Yeah, by 2/3 kittening days… Cry me a river!

ProxyDamage.9826

I don’t understand the design behind the distribution of abilities. Like why do thieves, a hard-hitting melee class, get a passive move speed increase in addition to leaping gap closers, while warriors and guardians (arguably not a hard hitting as thieves) rely on gap closers with longish cooldowns?

Because the Thief is squishier than either. The Thief relies on hitting the enemy hard and fast, and getting out quickly. They rely on avoiding damage, because they can’t tank it.

Why do elementalists have more mobility than rangers?

Same reason. Elementalists are soft and squishy.

Why is the guardian, a protector, not able to gain invulnerability as long as a warrior designed to aggressively initiate?

Because the Guardian has a lot more defensive abilities, a lot more tanking ability, to also have an invulnerability tool.

Why does the mesmer get swiftness, clones, and massive conditions on a more effective level than a necromancer? (lookin at you confusion)

The Mesmer does not have better condition usage than the Necro. Don’t be silly. The mesmer also does NOT have better swiftness options.

Clones are their class mechanic, and they’re significantly less tanky than Necros.

I just don’t get the choices.

Because you don’t understand balance. You’re looking at individual skills instead of classes as a whole.

Signet Build running it's course

in Warrior

ProxyDamage.9826

Signet build is a pure leveling build. It does ridiculously well till lvl 50/60, at which point it starts dropping significantly in performance, but still remains strong enough that it’s usually the most convenient “idiot proof” build for leveling purposes till lvl 80.

However, by lvl 50/60, if you drop a few silver coins on proper level armour/trinkets/weaponry you can start changing your build into whatever build you want to do. Rifle/GS is definitely a viable weapon choice, and your build will depend entirely on what you prefer… You can build more offensive or defensive. Most people will agree that, for leveling purposes, a full offensive build does better, but it’s really your choice.

The key thing to remember is that, for the most part, your stats come from your gear. Your traiting is more about the minor and major traits you want to pick up. Just look at the traits and check out which traits you want to use, and don’t feel obligated to put more points in a tree than you need. It’s perfectly OK to, say, go 25 points in a tree if there’s no other major trait you wanna use.

Who cares how many people use it? How does it change the way it looks and whether you like that look or not? Honestly, as far as I’m concerned that is the single ugliest armour set in the entire game. Surpassing even the “Michellin Man” medium armour set. It would be equally fugly whether every single player used it, or only a single person. Conversely I love the light armour honor of the waves chest piece. I think it looks fantastic, and I can’t see how it would matter how many other people in the world think so.

ProxyDamage.9826

You’re a warrior… At low level PVE… Roll your face on the keyboard and win…

First thing, don’t worry about a “serious build” till level 80. One of the best things in this game is that resetting your build is incredibly easy.

I’ve leveled 4 characters to 80 right now (Ranger, Necromancer, Warrior and Thief in that order – ok, Thief is lvl 78 and will be 80 within the hour) and Warrior is, by far, the easiest.

Follow these simple steps:

  • Grab the best blue or green power, power/precision or power/precision/crit damage greatsword you can for your level (for level 23 that should be a Strong Greatsword) from the trading post. Don’t waste money on rares. Blue or Green is more than enough.
  • Buy a sigil of Bloodlust while you’re there.
  • Stick the sigil in the greatsword.
  • Equip your new [Whatever] Greatsword of Bloodlust.
  • Change all your utility skills to signets (including your healing skill and your elite once you get it… Then again you’ll use Signet or Rage anyways…);
  • Put 10 points in Arms to get the major trait that gives you +40 precision per unused signet;
  • Do whatever you want with the rest;
  • You now have to kitten up extremely hard to die at all.

That’s godmode till lvl 60. Works fairly well for leveling up to 80. It’s a completely kitten build at 80 and for any purposes other than leveling, but by the time you hit 80 you can change to whatever build you want.

Goodluck.

Warriors voted weakest PVP class

in Warrior

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

The inherent goal of the thread is to get a litmus test from the community on the general effectiveness of a class in a tPvP setting.

Bias in any form would obviously skew the results, and seeing as how the votes are coming in in different forms and body styles it is difficult to transfer all of that into a correct data set such as SQL or Access or Excel.

Due to those complications, I go line by line in Excel. Comparing everyones votes to the current list available. Based on number of votes provided and by the tier they appear, the classes are adjusted accordingly.

I think you misunderstood. The core problem of that thread (or similar threads) is not your data collection methodology. That was just a mandatory jab at how you presented your previous point. You made it seem like you removed answers which you didn’t consider reasonable, based on your own judgement, which is inevitably biased.

But that was an aside. The core of your problem is your sample. Your data collection could be absolutely perfect, but it’s all for naught because of your population: Anyone. Most people playing any game, the absolute brunt of any game’s player base, are bad players. They’re the people who play these games to turn their brains off and “just chill”. They’re not the players who study a game. Who develop tactics, strategies, and engulf themselves in the intricacies of the game’s mechanics. That’s not even accounting for all the people, and they are many, who simply aren’t very intelligent at this sort of thing. In ANY game you choose to look, you’ll find examples of the average player base complaining extensively about “OP!!” things that have ridiculously easy counters once you look into it.

Ever played Street Fighter? Take Saggat or Ryu against a new player and just mindlessly spam fireballs and shoryukens. Watch them explode in rage at how OP it is. Don’t try that against a good player or the round is over before it even begins. And if you do understand anything of the game and want a laugh, compare professional tier lists and match up by informed and knowledgeable professional players, with “popular opinion” tier lists and match up info.

If you’ve ever been to the League of Legends forum about halfway through season 2, you will inevitably have seen one of the countless “Darius is OP!!!!” threads, despite the fact that Darius was never anywhere close to OP, and was, in fact, one of the easiest characters to utterly mutilate in the game.

Any FPS ever, regardless of actual balance? “Snipers are OP!”.

In Bad Company 2’s “Hardcore” mode (the developers had a sense of sarcastic humor I presume) the heavy sniper rifles killed with one shot. Every scrub on the face of that game called them OP. Nevermind that assault rifles had very similar range, ranged from semi to fully automatic, and killed you with 4 automatic body shots or 1/2 headshots, effectively rendering the sniper nigh useless. In non-hardcore mode the heaviest sniper rifle could only one-hit-kill with a headshot. The time it took to do this was marginally inferior to killing someone with a 2/4 round burst to the head of most assault rifles (we’re talking miliseconds), and the difficult involved in it was exponentially larger the closer the target was… Snipers were, in public view, OP.

Like these you can find many, many, many more examples across roughly every game. The point is simple: Average public opinion means kitten all when it comes to any objective assessment of balance. Your thread is flawed because it’s roughly equivalent to polling random people on the street technical information about the LHC…

Warriors voted weakest PVP class

in Warrior

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

Actually, its a consensus from consistent tPvP players.

As the maker of the thread, I weeded out those whose opinions seemed bias in their reason.

The list is actually fairly consistent with what’s occurring in tPvP.

It’s obvious in tPvP for example that Ele’s are at the top of the most wanted list, with Warriors at the bottom. The classes that filled in in the middle were shown to be the most wanted classes for a team composition in tPvP.

So what you’re saying is that you removed the votes of those you didn’t agree with? That seems much more credible already.

It’s not just an amalgamation of random opinions, it’s an admittedly biased amalgamation of random opinions!

Will Guild Missions need a levelled Guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProxyDamage.9826

Each guild mission type becomes available through an upgrade that is researched in the guild tech tree. The first one is Guild Bounties, which does require Art of War level 5.

I’m sorry, I gotta ask, who thought this was a good idea…? Who genuinely went “yeah, this is brilliant, let’s do this!” …?

You’re gating global guild content, something any guild will extensively want to do, something which, based on the information we’ve been given so far seems particularly PvE related, behind the highest and only PvP-exclusive gate?

Let’s look at this for a second – Guilds have 4 trees you can dump influence in:

  • Architecture – Related to guild-wide buffs, like storage and research “perks”. Benefits roughly everyone on any kind of guild.
  • Economy – Player-wide buffs, such as boost banners. Again, benefits roughly anyone on any kind of guild.
  • Politics – Directed as “personalizing” your guild a bit more, through guild-clothing, emblems, etc. More optional than the above, but still interesting for roughly any guild.

  • Art of War – Used exclusively for WvW related content. Only ever used by WvW-related guilds.

And THIS is the one you choose to gate your seemingly PvE oriented content with…? Level 5 of it, no less.

…Who thought of this…? Cause this just baffles me…

Hammer mace mace as condition build

in Warrior

ProxyDamage.9826

Gimmick? What defines a gimmick and what defines a “real” build.

There are entire builds centered around landing Hundred Blades. Every weapon in itself, is a gimmick.

Hammer – only works if they don’t have blinds or blocks or generally move faster than you.

Axes – Doesn’t work so well if they have weakness or access to retaliation

Swords – Hope they do not have lots of condition removal

And what makes you think this build works so poorly? I’m almost positive you haven’t tried it. So don’t make such bold claims.

Anyway, I’m not here to argue. I’ll let you stick to your HB build while i think outside the box

TL:DR – Try it, before you knock it

If your build relies entirely on your enemy not knowing what it does, it’s a gimmick. Once the novelty wears out and people know it, it’s useless.

Even then, it’s pretty bad. Again, you are relying on at least 3 interrupts (not just landing hard CC, it has to actually land at a specific time to interrupt an attack) AND the enemy not notice or cleanse the single condition AND continuously attack in order to cause little over 1k of damage per skill the enemy uses.

If you build power instead, each of those CCs, don’t even need an interrupt, you can land converts to higher and less conditional damage already… If you’re building conditions you get way more of having at least one proper condition weapon.

Also I’ve never fired a square rocket, but I can tell you it’s not aerodynamically sound.

PS: Bad guess. I don’t use a greatsword on my warrior. They’re rather underwhelming in PvP/WvW. So… “That’s the problem with assumptions…”. I’ll let you fill in the rest.

I will say one thing: most people are phenomenally bad at this game, which includes being absolutely unable to explore the potential of their classes.

When people realize there’s more to a class than DPS or bunker ability they’ll soon realize some of the “UP” classes are not UP at all. Part of this is ANet’s fault, because of how PvE is designed with an enormous focus on Tank N’ Spank. Tank N’ Spank is all about flat DPS and tanking ability, thus naturally favoring Warrior and Guardian.

Which isn’t to say that there aren’t things to fix on those classes, but very few people actually know how to use the tools they do have that work right.

Hammer mace mace as condition build

in Warrior

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

The condition this build is based on is confusion.

This is strictly a wvw build, and you would be surprised how many people do not notice confusion and kill themselves in a couple of seconds.

With 3 stacks of confusion (distracting strikes), and enough condition damage, your confusion ticks can easily reach 1000 dmg per swing.

With Hammer Mace/Mace you have 6 cc’s that can all interrupt, Add physical utilites and u can have 9. Rampage adds 4 more. That’t a lot of chances to interrupt a foe. At 1000 dmg per swing an enemy can kill themselves very fast before they realize whats happening

I’m pretty sure that is THE text book definition of a gimmick: Something that only works (and poorly) if the player isn’t even aware. A bit over 1K of self-damage per skill IF you can get 3 CCs to interrupt the enemy in quick succession and have at least 1.3k condition damage and the enemy doesn’t notice it and cleanse the single condition.

Not only do you have all the drawbacks of a hammer/mace build, but you have very little to show for it. I mean, in the exact same situation with a power build you would do far more damage, and a lot more reliably if you simply land 3 hard CCs…

As a backup to a proper condition build (swords/bow…maybe rifle) ok. As the full method of delivering your condition damage payload, no. Just no.

The difference may largely account for my lack of using the regen signet, which I’ve now slapped on my character. You’re saying this gives you 352hp/sec regen? I don’t understand the comment about you restoring another 352hp critial target on top of that? I didn’t realise there was food to boost regen either, i will look at that. He definitely had eaten some food
Still my stats aren’t that bad compared to yours?

You beat me on power and precision though, so I’m guessing with the added power plus higher chance of critical you can eat into someone a lot more effectively, particularly useful when using a Greatsword.
I should buy full exotic trinkets but the type I buy will effect my armor sigs. I was going to buy Doylak sigs (power vitality and toughness bonuses to armour) and apply it to an armour type that gives only the same benefits, power toughness vitality. Then buy the exotic trinkets to match those 3 qualities too. Perhaps then with the regen this would be a solid char I don’t know.

2,8k attack.
8% critical damage.
16% critical chance.

OP, you don’t exactly do a lot of damage… And you have some food on… Nor do you have a lot of defense if you’re a defensive build… Can you post your exact items (including runes/sigils/whatever is socketed) and traits? Cause something is definitely wrong there. See my build for reference – I have wayyyyy more damage than you, while matching you in armour and only having less 7k health or so. And I’m paying a premium for some extra utility my build needs.

And to answer your question, yes, trinkets are about half of your power. So having fully exotic armour/weapons and green trinkets is roughly equivalent to exotic trinkets and green armour and weapons.

I mean, in the strictest sense yes, hammer and mace do have conditions… Cripples, weakens, stuns… No damage-dealing conditions, however. I.e.: none that benefit from a conditions build. The odd bleed on critical and maybe confusion are great in a proper condition build, but vastly insignificant by themselves.

If you want conditions you should be looking at swords and bows… maybe a rifle… At least in one of the weapon sets.

No. Get off your kitten… Nobody should have a free “run around after downed” skill. Elementalists shouldn’t have mistform either, and making vengeance down you after used would only make Warriors about 10 times worse than Eles (Vengeance lasts a LOT longer than Mistform).

Vengeance isn’t a “get out of jail free” card. It’s a last ditch to make as much damage as you can before you kick the bucket. If you’re going down, take as much with you as you can. If you want a “last stand”, then trait into it. It’s valuable enough.

Profession Tier List

Adorable. Adorably misguided, but a commendable effort nonetheless.

First of all, this is an extremely biased view. You’re not providing much to back up your statements, and honestly this kind of thing is so incredibly subjective and vague, even for games more suitable for this kind of tier system, such as fighting games. This is representative of your personal view of the classes, and is in no way representative of any kind of objective means of comparison.

Second of all, your “tiers” are too far from representative of the intricacies, of the finer aspects, of both PvE or WvW. There’s just too much you haven’t accounted for. For example:

  • Your build greatly influences how good your character is at different aspects of the game. Different builds of the exact same profession have different strengths and weaknesses. For example, your typical cheese cutter GS “Berserker’s of the Berserker’s” Warrior is one of the best things for most open-world PvE. It’s also one of the most pathetic things for any form of PvP. Single-target spike builds tend to be excellent for roaming in WvW, but hardly the most suited for most of PvE… etc, etc.
  • Even within PvE and PvP, there are different areas that emphasize different aspects, thus favoring different builds. For example, consistent DPS is much more valuable than spike DPS in most dungeons full of high health bosses. Specifically, single target consistent DPS is much more valuable in those situations than lower AoE, since you need to kill one high-health boss target, instead of many low health zerglings (a situation more common in open world PvE). Conversely, in WvW, whether you want to run around raiding camps solo, with small groups, or attacking in large numbers, also affects which aspects of your build matter more.
  • You’re also not accounting for synergies and objectives. Sure, a defensive Guardian is a powerful thing indeed in a dungeon run, but if you have 5 defensive Guardians you’ll probably be done with it by the time a more balanced party has finished theirs, had lunch and then made a documentary about it. The same is true for PvP. I love picking up my Necro (which is a Power/Condition damage hybrid) and running alongside my friend’s Guardian in WvW. We’re a frightening force to be reckoned with because our two classes and builds have a very strong synergy. We’re stronger than just 2 random characters and builds mashed together.
  • You’re also not accounting for match ups. Different builds and classes have different pros and cons. For example, your typical glass cannon, burst, dagger build thief is amazing at taking down individual low defense targets. His build guarantees he has the initiative, and his burst is generally enough to guarantee the other glass cannon doesn’t have time to even the playing field. However, the same build will have serious issues against more defensive characters. They have roughly 0 odds of killing a bunker Guardian or Necro, and trying to kill either with other enemies around is roughly best translated as suicidal tendencies.

etc, etc, etc…

I.e.: There are simply too many variables for you to “tier” classes like such.

Staff: Why so unfair?

is it possible that other skins haven’t been discovered yet? recipes or mystic toilet wise. i dunno. not only for staff but for other weapons as well..

Possible? Yes. Likely? No. Not by a mile.

Consider the millions of people playing this on a daily basis. By probabilities alone people end up stumbling into even the most obscure kitten. Nobody knows how to get Final Rest, but yet some people have stumbled into it. Not to mention people looking into game files and discovering items that weren’t even officially added to the game.

Honestly, I think the design team had a clear bias towards greatswords… You can’t blame them too much though. When you think of great or inspiring weapon designs in our own fiction the crushing majority seem to lean towards swords. King Arthur did not brandish his mighty hammer, Aragorn didn’t cut down orks with his axe, Bilbo didn’t have a glowing scepter, He-man and Conan were not known for their mighty maces… Which is not to say there are no heroes who use other weapons, but rarely is there an iconic weapon design that does not belong to a sword. It seems that humans just have a cultural bias towards swords.

There’s just less of inspirational pool to “draw” from.

2H Weapons and Sigils

Why can’t 2H weapons have the same base damage as two 1H weapons, have two sigil slots, and let the weapon-skills be the only factor in what people choose to use?.

Why aren’t all weapons the same stat wise? Because they’re different weapons, and the different stats were accounted for in balancing.

Despite this “egregious flaw” you seem so focused on I don’t know a lot of strong PvE or PvP builds that don’t use at least one 2 handed weapon, and just looking around the world you can tell they’re prolific enough as is, even among the best of players… So, clearly, they do something right.

The lack of sigil is part of the weapon. Account for it when choosing.

Well out of here goodbye

Anyway, regurgitating rules at a player supposedly leaving. I wonder which part of t heir thought process hinted that it mattered to him.

The fact that he posted.

These people are always attention kittens. No exceptions. If you want to leave, leave. Dramatic “I QUIT” posts are never about people leaving, always about drawing out that extra bit of attention and pity.

Party leader starts kick voting. If party leader is afk for x minutes, revert to the old system.

There. Fixed. Next.

Anti-RP and basic hate

Allow me to take a moment to pontificate that most you, in fact, nay, mostly everyone alive these days, was brought up on a lie. A terribly perverted and insidious lie: Everyone needs to respect everyone. Everyone needs to respect you, and you need to respect everyone.

No they don’t, and no you don’t. Respect isn’t even something you can give or take freely. Respect is an emotional response. It’s something you gotta earn. You don’t simply decide to be afraid or to love someone, and you don’t decide to respect them either. You can say you do, but that doesn’t mean any more than saying you love someone you don’t.You can say it, but it’s not true.

“But you gotta respect…” Why? No you don’t. Nothing happens. Especially not in an online game. It’s not like someone says “you’re stupid” and suddenly your account gets deleted. Or your fully exotic level 80 gets re-geared in whites. You don’t wake up with leprosy. Nobody has to like you, and you don’t need anybody to like you either.

See, personally I don’t much like RPing. In my view, it’s awkward and juvenile. But I’m not about to stop you doing it either, so long as you don’t try to force me to play along. I’ll probably crack a few private jokes with some friends, but you won’t see me jump in your RPing going “U ALL kitten M8S!11!” or whatever is the current fashionably delinquent insult. Because… why would I? There’s nothing in it for me.

Some people, however will go “that extra mile”. They will jump in and shout, whine and kitten… They will be “rude”. Who the kitten cares? I’m serious, why would you care? The people who do that are not doing so because they are legitimately interested in informing you of their opinion. They’re crazy people who want attention. If you were walking down the street and saw a dirty guy with ragged clothes and the acrid stench of alcohol loudly spouting bigotry and racism in the middle of the street for no apparent reason, you wouldn’t stop and engage in a conversation with them would you? You’d just walk by without even registering it. At most you’d go “Some people really have kittened up their lives haven’t they” inside your head and carry on with your day. Why would you change the rules of engagement here?

So someone says something you deem “rude”. So kittening what? Ignore them. Don’t interact with them. There is no PKing in this game, and they can’t even body block you. They are literally powerless to affect you in any way. Let’em be the ignorant kittenheads you honestly think they are and just go about your life. You’ll live happier the second you realize you don’t have to like or be liked by everyone you meet.

That one isn’t hard at all…? There’s maybe one questionable jump in the whole thing. If you want unfair try opening the chest at Gryphon Rook Run. That one can go kitten itself with a bottle rocket.

That said, you don’t have to grab everything in every map. Especially skill points. You get an endless supply of those. If you don’t do well jumping don’t do jumping related content.
