…..oh…. So you really believe that, okay…. Uhmm…. I’ve never seen such confidence in one’s class. People have always said things like that about mesmer… I don’t see what gives it so much more depth than every other class. I mean, I feel like if engi got a couple buffs they would be l a serious threat.
A proper mesmer build has the utility and flexibility to deal with pretty much anything. All types of builds, whether shatter based, phantasm based, or condition based, are able to adapt themselves to any situation. Mesmers come with several very potent varieties of damage avoidance and reduction, extremely powerful boon stripping and condition removal tools, stunbreakers in multiple effective forms, and the most highly usable projectile reflects of any class.
There are certainly other good builds out there, but they can all be beaten by a mesmer. You mentioned engineers, so we can look at that. Engineers have a serious weakness in their reliance on projectiles. A traited focus will completely shut down an engineer. Additionally, their burst is heavily condition based, so a phantasmal disenchanter will generally completely remove their potential for damage. There are a few engineer builds that don’t rely on projectiles, but they require close range to be effective, and generally accomplish that with magnet, which can be avoided easily with blurred frenzy or blink if need be.
A big part of fighting effectively is knowing the toolset and capabilities of every class and build you will come across. If you can identify these rapidly, you can always play to counter them.

I use that build since a little http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBGUcKbnINo.
Rampage gear with rubis orb, with celestian jewellery. I was wondering if anyone had an other build for wvw and pve, more efficient with the same gear..I bought full ascendante jewel…
I have all the weapons of the mesmer and also a carrion armor….All builds are welcome….
Ouch, you picked a nasty build to start with. Nasty as in it’s bad. That guy has made a couple of ‘the ultimate mesmer X’ builds, and they’ve all been horrendous.
As a general rule of thumb, mesmers don’t do hybrid builds particularly well. We’re much better off focusing either on condition damage or power damage. At any rate, If you’re looking for other builds to try out, take a peek at the build list stickied at the top of the forums. Browse through some of those builds to see if there are any that you like so that you’ve got a little better idea of what you’re going for.
Well, I am not totally sure that that is true pyro lol. I mean, you basically just said “Only another mesmer cab beat me if I’m on top of my game.” right there.
That I did.
Yep, some good bug fixes this patch. Editing the OP now.
I have accounts on both EU and NA, so I’ve got you covered =P.
As far as my personal skill, probably a 9. 10 is unachieveable, but I am very good. As far as my skill comparison with Osicat, can’t really make a judgement there. I’ve never actually fought him, and we tend to play significantly different builds with significantly different playstyles.
Mesmer is substantially more difficult than most other professions. It has a higher skill floor than a lot of professions, but that’s not what makes it unique. It definitely has the highest skill ceiling of any profession, and that allows someone who excels at mesmer to stomp anyone that excels at another class.
Just a note: If you use the pDefender, be sure to also take signet of illusions. The defender’s effectiveness is directly tied to how much hp it has.
Okay, so I decided on opening up Dwayne for rabid trinkets. I’m getting gear from HotW mostly, probably. Maybe also CM.
TA also has rabid, and the up path is extremely fast.
Pm me in game at any time and I’ll be happy to help out.

Dear diary, today I learned a new word
Another one of these threads…
GS auto attack hits for 10k? Give me, what you are smoking, k thanks.
Phantasmal Berseker needs a nerf? I am full out dps spec (including traits) and IF it hits and IF it crits, it gets up to 14k. Not a single time have I seen anything higher than that and even 14k crits happen VERY rarely. It’s usually about 10-11k.
Mesmers need to be countered with conditions and stun/ccs. Not hard to do if you put some attention on your own build rather than asking for a mesmer nerf -.-
I have never seen the zerker hit more than 7k, and I’m in a rather high dps spec myself. Care to post a screeny of that one?
Maybe … maybe if fully stacked with might.
…and the other class full glass?i have never evr crit anyone for this much and i tried full berserker vs glass cannons….screenshot or it dint happen!
Naked, more like.

While it’s not spinning and traited it still reflects projectiles, but also takes the dmg.
This is false.
As for PvE I tried dungeons the other day with it and felt the same way, builds used back then are now outdated and been replaced with what looks to be sub par builds.
Anything besides glass cannon is subpar, what were you thinking was good back then?
Regarding the actual point though, the only reason for you to play mesmer is because you enjoy it, we’re a pretty weak class atm and the nerfs don’t seem to be letting up.
We haven’t gotten any nerfs for the past 3 patches. Instead, we’ve gotten buffs and bug fixes. Not sure what you’re on about.
@OP: Mesmers are still one of the most wanted/required classes in dungeons due to the utility and damage we bring.
No it doesn’t. See this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/new-downed-state-powers/
The only one I could find complaining about downed state on short notice. There’s plenty more though, and they’re all just as silly as the last one. Usually comes up about once a week.
Alright thank you! I’m not that educated on fractals haha. So, basically a little less than 3 weeks for one ring. I always wondered, other than dailies, how do you get accessories?
Guild missions.
Bloody hell. What’s with all these moronic whine threads popping up over the past 2 days? Quit bumping this excrement!
This is a cute thread, now stop bumping it.
Okay. I’m not ruling out the possibility of fractals haha. Seriously, how long would that take. I’m not in A huge hurry. If you average out the week I would probably run like, 11 runs a week. Starting from square 1 how long?
Assuming 11 runs a week, going up 1 level per run, you’d be at level 10 by the end of a week. At level 10, every time you complete the daily with the jade maw you’ll have a chance at getting a ring and get 1 token towards a ring. So, at the point you reach level 10, you’ll have 10 days for a guaranteed 1 ring. Once you reach level 20, you can run level a level 10-18 daily and a level 20-28 daily for a total of 2 tokens per day, so 5 days per ring.
This has nothing to do with DD, your staff or armor. This is what many mobs (such as cows/moas) get when you attack them in low level areas like Queensdale. Do it in Orr or any other high level areas and Fear will never proc on any mobs unless you’re wearing the armor that does.
They don’t get “fear” their AI gets “scared” and they start running. Fear is an actual condition that can be applied.
which has the same icon and pretty much guaranteed the reason tc thinks its a trait/staff bug?
No. It has no icon. The ai will just turn around and run.
What armor are you using? Is it a full set of TA?
The retaliation on phantasms is meaningless now, as it only lasts 5 seconds. I will say, the build that hexxen posted lacks any meaningful form of clone generation, which means it would be very difficult to put any sort of lasting pressure on an opponent.
I generally run more offensive builds, but that still have permanent regeneration from either prismatic understanding or phantasmal healing, that way you can still apply pressure while being highly difficult to kill. Another option is going full into healing and tanky as a build with boonshare from prismatic understanding and aoe heals from restorative mantras.
@Osi: I’ll have to disagree with the blanket statement about healing power on mesmers. We have some of the most potent healing in the game, and a build with say, full apothecary, can do very good damage while being unbelievably difficult to kill.
Alright alright. Thank you for that information Pyro. But, even then I am talking about 1v3ing where sacrificing survivability for too much damage is your death note in WvW unless you are a very skilled mesmer. I am a decently new 80 as a mesmer but not new no no not at all! Haha. That is my opinion anyway so what do you think about at least carrion chest and amulet? I am also kind of wondering where I am going to get the rabid trinkets if I do choose that route anyway.
Full rabid really doesn’t sacrifice any survivability. It has toughness as a minor stat, which is very strong. I personally run with 1 carrion weapon, full rabid everything else, and then all of my ascended gear is the odd stat distribution that is sorta like rabid but also has vitality, and these are my stats (attached picture, no stacks on my sigil).
Your phantasms inherit the following stats:
- Precision
- Toughness
- Crit Power
- Power
- Condition Damage
- Condition Duration
- Boon Duration
Precision matters because a massive amount of the bleed pressure on a condition mesmer is from the trait sharper images, which causes your illusions to bleed on crit.
@Elwood: You’ll be able to keep clones up, that’s not a huge problem. The issue slid that you’re taking 2 clone-death traits, but with your low clone generation, you’re getting essentially no use out of those 2 traits.
This is an interesting build. I’d love to see how it works. Normally I’d advise against trying to make a hybrid build on a mesmer, but this one might work. Just a few notes:
- Illusionary elasticity doesn’t work with staff clones, only with trident clones. Underwater combat is rare, and Anet has recently insinuated that the lake will be gone soon, so designing a build around underwater is probably not a good idea.
- Without deceptive evasion, you’re going to have a good amount of difficulty keeping staff clones up for damage, and producing good numbers of clones for shatters. Considering your extremely low clone generation rate, I’d consider removing both of your on-clone-death traits and putting in something else.
Uh? It used to work at least one time when I tried, lowering the attack-interval to 3,2 seconds.
Just checked wiki, it says 3,2s is baseline. Has this always been that way? I ran the trait for a long time, and I could have sworn it was 4,0s without it.
I personally provided the numbers for the phantasmal haste wiki page, and I did that quite a few months ago. To my knowledge it has never worked.
Swordsmen don’t benefit at all. It doesn’t work wih them.
And here I was so hoping that we had all learned to ignore him and watched as his post left the front page till he yet again self bumped. Sigh.
I do sorta want to duel him =P.
Unless you want to Transmute them to the desired stats, Anomoly is berseker and Spirit Links is Condition based. If you can’t decide do what I did and just get both.
Good point.
Umm not trying to be a jerk or anythin, you do realize that condition mesmer in 1 vs 1 is OP because of all the cripple and confusion. Any build, I mean any build will lose to condition Mesmer in 1 vs 1 in pvp. Try it out and see for yourself. Condition is extremely hard to beat. No doubt.
Phantasm build will beat it. A high condition removal specced mesmer will also beat it.
Phant doesn’t beat confusion. Phant mesmers die really quickly. Shatter is generally the hardest fight.
Sure it does. You only need to use 2 or 3 skills in a phant build vs a confusion mes, and then you can just run in circles.

I am an older player and I don’t have super fast response any more. So I play a phantasm mesmer in sPvP and let the fire-and forget phantasms do their work without me having to actively manage them.
That way I can focus all of my attention on staying alive and recasting the phantasms as needed.
What tips do you have for me about how to best avoid getting hit when they rush me to melee? They seem to be able to tell a clone from me quite easily and ignore the clones.
I use decoy. Are there some other tricks I can learn, other than dodging like a madman?
Illusionary leap is a fantastic tool. You don’t need to activate it immediately after using the first part. You can let them run away from the clone, and THEN activate it. This will have the effect of actually opening a gap, and will most likely place them behind you. On top of that, you can do the trick once every 7 seconds or so.
Hey man. Glad to see you back safely from your vacation. As I have said before. I have been playing the Ele in the Tpvp for better armor farming. I need at least one or two days to get back into shape. By the way, what build are you going to use? Shatter? Phantasm? Condition? I prefer no condition because then you will surely win. Lol
I’ll fight condition or phantasm. If what you said has the meaning of any condition build will make you lose….you may want to re-evaluate the build.
The anomaly. It can’t be beat. Will attach a picture in a minute.
Edit: Here we are.
(edited by Pyroatheist.9031)
I’m back. Send me a pm ingame to duel.
Mesmer downed state is fine. It’s among the top 3 and provides some offensive and PvE utility that the others in the top 3 don’t gain.
We already lose all conditions when downed.
I also like the rogue, it does massive damage in power builds :o.I really like deception. Its a 100% stomp interupter(in a teamfight), something other professions can only dream of :o.
If we didnt have he stealth it wouldnt be 100% :P.
THIS WAS ALL SARCASM
And #4 is the same for everyone, it’s not going to be changed. It’s purpose is to allow you a chance to get yourself up when there is no one to rally off of. Otherwise if you got downed just as an enemy died you’d have no choice but to sit there and die. In beta when the skill instead gave you brief invulnerability people would down you run away.
Also, I’ve killed plenty if people while downed. No, you’re unlikely to do it if they are full health – which is how it should be – but you’re more than capable of finishing someone off with double confusion spam, never mind that your Phantasms persist while you’re downed. That guaranteed extra time Deception gives you allows any remaining Phantasms to continue to deal damage while you spam pretty decent auto attack damage + confusion AND get a clone to spam confusion along with you.
I must have finished roughly half of the Queen’s gauntlet challenges while I was downed and my Illusions kept the boss distracted. I even beat that south sun boss (the one in the instance with all of the land mines) while being downed – it was easier than soon it the real way – and that was before the illusion PvE HP buff.
I’ve modified the post you quoted slightly.
@ArmageddonAsh: The stealth on our 2 guarantees a stomp stop if you are using it correctly.
So does the Thief teleport and you said “their 2 doesn’t guarantee a stomp stopper” well yeah it does if they port away. Best time to use it is when they are just about to finish, the problem with ours is we might dodge the finish (if timed right) but we have NO control where we get ported to so could get ported right next to where we were or even get ported into AoE damage…
The thief 2 can easily be countered with skilled use of a blink, or even easier with another thief using steal. The mesmer 2 can not be countered. It guarantees the block of as many stomps as there are people trying to stomp you, and the reasonable duration stealth means that the timing is not very difficult to use.
The direction and distance of the teleport is inconsequential. It doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that it stops a stomp.
Mesmer down 2 can be countered with blind. Thief pistol 5 is the real bugger.
No it can’t.

Easily? Last second teleport doesnt always get saved by a blink and even that that requires a specific skill to be used to counter it, i wonder how long it is until that is fixed as well. We all know that Anet likes to fix bugs that are beneficial bugs and leave the ones that harm us
Our downed state functionality is not a bug.

Ele has the top downed state. That’s not even a matter for discussion. Vapor form allows for actions and escapes that nothing else can even dream of.
Between thief and mes it’s a toss-up. Thief downed state is strong, but their 2 doesn’t guarantee a stomp stopper, ours does.
Having a different color to indicate phantasms or clones would certainly be nice, but ultimately not necessary. Part of playing the class is knowing what clones and phantasms you have up, managing them and relying on them. Being able to do this effectively is part of what makes a strong playstyle for a mesmer.
This is a silly discussion. Our downed state is tremendously powerful, and this has been discussed to death in the 80 other whine threads that have complained about it. Our 2 skill guarantees a failed stomp, and that’s all you can ask from a downed state. Our 3 phantasm hitting incredibly hard is just icing on the cake.
The greatsword auto isn’t great no matter what game type, it is the qualities of the other skills that make the weapon powerful.
I’m not entirely sure that anything quite like this exists. As far as Mesmer gameplay goes, the podcasts that Kylia and myself do (linked in my sig) offer a good perspective on things. You’ll also be able to cobble something of what you want together from multiple videos. My personal videos often contain basic gameplay tips, and Osicat’s videos also often contain lots of great playing information.
For spvp, I believe supcutie has a some good Mesmer playing videos, though again not quite what you are looking for.
In the future, I’ll definitely look into making something like this, but in the meantime, my advice is to simply play the game, and then ask questions here on the forums as you need, and everyone will be glad to help out.
I have them for the added duration (currently bugged lol) and the 46 The 6/6 will be nerfed, guessing either reeplaced or given a 15-20second cool down
Anet tends to balance with machetes and sledgehammers. I won’t gamble that they will still be useable after being ‘balanced’.
It’s actually 20/20/30 with full undead runes. I’ll probably be running 10/25/25/0/10 with perplexity runes and a slightly different weapon set soon, but since those runes are absolutely begging for a nerf, I’ll wait for that to hit before I actually move to a set like that.
