First of not every player has multiple characters or enjoys speed training, wich means they might only have one or two classes available to fight Liadri. Especially the casual gamers
Second i am in favor for a adjustment in Liadri (to make her a bit easier) but at the cost that some builds are disabled or decreased in efficiency, like the Necro life steal build I had to resort to, to kill her. Because now I have the mini, but not the sense of accomplishment for beating. Becuase i killed her that cheaply (way of fight, not cost, had to make stuff and owe some ppl a lot of money (for me) now)

That’s your own fault for using an easy-mode build.

Hazards like lava seem to cause Blind to characters with the trait Blinding Ashes active.

Specific steps to reproduce:

  • Grab elementalist and activate Fire Magic XIII: Blinding Ashes trait
  • Jump into lava
  • When you receive Burning-state you will also get Blind-state
I attached some screenshots of the issue.
Note: This does not happen when you get burned by an enemy (see last image).

I was also very excited at first, but after some more thoughts and reading forum posts and experiencing the system ingame I came to the conclusion, that this concept of a Megaserver does not help us players enjoy the game more than we did before. There are problems everywhere, some of which might get fixed in the future, but there are real conceptual problems that can’t be tweaked away.

At least, please give us the choice to return to our own server instances, so that a lot of us can enjoy the game again.

Suggestion: dealing with dead ppl

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Rabe.2456

Rabe.2456

I hope they address this issue with some changes to the current system. Simply making dead players not scale the event would not work imo, this solution just asks to be exploited. I also don’t like the idea of taking away the ability to revive dead players while you’re in combat, because this mechanic saved my groups kitten a lot of times in dungeons (I consider my friends and myself mediocre skillwise).
Not giving players a reward when they die during an event is also a bad decision in my opinion, because up until they died, they helped the group to finish the event – why would you just go and ignore their contribution? Does not seem to be fair.

The events where dead players lying around hurt the most seem to be time-based DPS races (Tequatl, Knights, …). For one, dead players scale up the event while not contributing to the overall DPS needed and on a second note, all players rezzing dead ones also don’t contribute for an amount of time – they also are at risk for being downed themselves because they are like sitting ducks. What this means is that it takes longer to deliver the damage needed to kill the boss, ultimately failing because there is not enough time. (That’s what mainly was the problem the first week our server attempted the new Tequatl)

So to address the problem, we could try to eliminate the cause. The developers could for example give us more time to succeed in DPS races.

As a workaround I could also accept a temporary solution like automatically teleporting players to the nearest waypoint (without costs?) after a set amount of time. Maybe also give some dialog options to choose from when you’re dead, like

  • Teleport me away after 1 minute if I don’t get rezzed by another player
  • Let me lie around dead but exclude me from event scaling and prevent me from getting rezzed while the event is still active
  • Teleport me away immediatly

Narrative Lessons From 15 Months of Scarlet

in Living World

Posted by: Rabe.2456

Rabe.2456

My top 3 points (no rating implied):

  • Tell the story within your game and not via social media. If you need background on a character, try adding that info beforehand into the game (books, NPC dialogs).
  • Build more upon existing Guild Wars Lore (Mursaat, Wizard’s Tower, Personal Story, etc).
  • Make the story more plausible and consistent. I understand that there always might be some plotholes, but the Season 1 LS was literally full of it (see other threads in this forum).

Unanswered Living World questions

in Living World

Posted by: Rabe.2456

Rabe.2456

  • Hologram technology. Where did it come from? It’s too much of a coincidence for it to appear just in time for Scarlet to steal it and use it as a weapon, when the Aetherblades already have better technology. Whoever created the technology (probably an asura) didn’t notice it could be used as a weapon later?

Yesterday I played the Personal Story again with one of my twinks, and I met an Asura named Ellie who proudly presented her hologram technology that creates a holographic image of herself and mimics every of her moves. She uses this technology to safely go into combat without getting hurt.

This thread brings me to the question why everyone can buy the “Selfless Potion”. Why not make it a requirement to free X Villagers so you’re allowed to buy it? I can see that people running around with the zerg are also helping by stopping miasma, but actually they’re running around to get loot, so they shouldn’t be allowed to buy the Selfless Potion.

Cracking Code in Scarlet's Lair *SPOILERS*

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Rabe.2456

Rabe.2456

What confuses me is that you can’t consistently split the characters, but the lines are well seperated. So should we interpret this as a hint, that the characters indeed represent text, or was it just an artistic move to split the lines? (Or both.)

Rabe.2456

You can seperate them. Take that example rule to always take the left symbols of each block. The seperation is absolutely unique and consistent, but it’s somewhat arbitrary.

Edit: This example fails if there is a vertical stroke at the end of a line (which is the case, for example line2, line3, …).

Cracking Code in Scarlet's Lair *SPOILERS*

in The Origins of Madness

Rabe.2456

If you assume every square represents one symbol, then you can’t tell to which squares the vertical lines and points belong to. You’d have to make a rule to ensure uniqueness. For example if you say every square can only have a vertical line on the left side, you’d be okay. But that also limits the number of possible symbols.

Edit: Right after i posted it, something struck my eye: If you put AC over BD you get an obvious mirror pattern. But if you put CA over BD you can see that C+B = mirrored(A+D), which seems non-trivial to me. You can see it in the picture: lines 8&9.

That’s predictable unfortunately. B = A backwards and C = D backwards. Therefore superimposing B and C is superimposing A backwards and D backwards.

Hm, sadly you are right.

Cracking Code in Scarlet's Lair *SPOILERS*

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Rabe.2456

Rabe.2456

Okay so we know that the lines AC are the mirror image of BD. Maybe the first two lines of the text is a key to retrieve the real code. I can’t just accept that the developer responsible for creating the code was just lazy and copied/mirrored the first two lines of the texture to the bottom. There might be a meaning to why there are two copies of the text followed by AC.

What I did was copy paste the ‘key’ over each line. Before analyzing this I would get rid of the first two lines because it’s just AC+BD. Another thing that is a problem is that there are actually 5 lines of non-redundant code, but the key is 2 lines long. The second copy of the text is actually not retrieved by the key AC but by CA (because 2 does not fit into 5), presumably producing garbage code.

So if I am really onto something, the only lines of code that would make any sense are lines 3-7.

Tribulation Mode and Lives

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Rabe.2456

Rabe.2456

World 1 completion on normal mode gives 7 bauble bubbles. 1 bauble bubble is 5 continue coins. 1 continue coin is 5 lives. World 1 completion gives you 175 lives once per day. Then you could trade in baubles if you wanted to to get more bauble bubbles. And it’s possible to complete trib mode without dying so…

I see where you’re coming from, but it still doesn’t really justify using lives in trib mode. Do you remember ANet’s we-don’t-want-players-to-farm-policy? So using the argument that you can farm lives in normal mode is basically a wrong argument in this context.

So I remember reading a post from Josh recently, where he said that he wanted Tribulation Mode to feel like games like ‘I wanna be the Guy’. I think he and his team made a great job, but one thing bothers me a LOT. Why didn’t they remove the life-counter in Tribulation Mode? As Josh said once: you are supposed to die a lot in this mode – so why, if it’s not a marketing strategy, do we have to constantly hope to not hit 0 lives and start over again?

My suggestion is to replace the Life-counter that decreases with a Death-counter that increases.

PS: It’s also not nice to enter Tribulation Mode, loose about 80 lives and then get a disconnect because your ISP is garbage…
