I want to come in and give some input concerning the difference between exotic and ascended. As Colin has come out and corrected that Ascended rarity is recommended, but not required.
Now, a lot of misinformation have been floating around concerning the increase in stats of ascended equipment in comparison to exotic. 5%, 10% ? I would like give an approximate difference here.
First of all, I don’t deny that looking at the pieces of armor or weapons or accessories pieces alone, the stat increase of the piece itself is yes around 5-10% difference and for weapon strength ~5% increase, and defense from armor is also about ~5% increase.
What cause the misconception is, that a 10% increase in the piece stat does not equate in 10% increase of overall stats and even more, does not equate to 10% increase in DPS. It is similarly misunderstood for effective health. So here is a spreadsheet I made a while ago showing the comparison in EP (which often scale to direct DPS since it’s a multiplier … condi damage aside, I haven’t calculated it). I don’t claim it to be 100% accurate because traits and stuffs are not taken into account. It’s just a general comparison
If you read it, you can see several points that I’ll note here:
1. The infusion difference compare no a non infused character is about 1.98% (Those 3000+ powerful blood yo)
2. The difference between ascended+trinket+weapon to full ascended non infused is about 1.43%. So yes the 400g+ armor set gives you 1.45% increase in dps compare to one without.
3. If you have full ascended and DON’T use food, you’re 2.91% behind one using food. This is where it’s interesting. Compare this to the nonascended armor and use food, you’re actually worse off.
4. The ascended weapon contribute to 5% difference so it’s noted on the 5th column of a 8.71% dps loss if you don’t have an ascended weapon.
5. Other columns are other stats, soldier, valk, celes, etc.
I hope you enjoy the info.
So, what’s the conclusion? I don’t think the 1.43% dps loss is something to fret about. If you really worry, then you should just concentrate on getting ascended trinket (which actually are cheaper than exotic) and the ascended weapons.
I’d like to cover that up with my own calculations:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yC8CmWopA2eJ0nbZMrxxHWO4e2YJ0Osq6fQM3Cztjv4/edit?usp=sharing
I calculated the relative increase in stats for Defense/Toughness/Vitality, because it was said that the raids will incentivise us to build defensive stats. As an additionial thing I defined a value I called Survivability as the number of hits you are able to sustain while continously being hit with constant damage (not taking into account any regeneration/heals/condition damage). Turns out it’s simply Armor * Health.
Survivability increases by 4-7% depending on class and stat combination.
I also did some calculations for average relative damage increase for full zerker and full assassin’s. One reddit thread said the avg damage increase for zerker is ~12%, but I calculated a value of 7-8% using the simple bernoulli distribution.
Hope that this is helpful.

Thanks for the update.
I’ve fought him twice, both times he got stuck. Regarding the case where he runs out of the barrier and teleports back in, I thought that’s a encounter mechanic to incentivise people to quickly drain the breakbar.
The encounter itself is pretty boring tbh, he doesn’t do anything but walking around and swinging his hammer sometimes. The three champions before are pretty fun though.
I have yet to experience it, but constant damage over time sounds like the cheapest possible way to implement ‘challenging content’.
Even if they balance around ascended gear, the twitter post still makes no sense to me.
I know the difference, full exotic vs full ascended (including infusions) is ~ 12% increase in DPS AND ARMOR.
What are you talking about? Armor increases (assuming Toughness as a major stat) by 6.29% for light, 6.2% for medium and 6.08% for heavy armor.
Edit: That means 6 stacks of vuln cancel the effects of ascended armor stats, right?

I wanna keep going back to “How can that NEEDING be true?”
The stat difference is insignificant.
Maybe they change ascended gear to have stat swap like legendaries. x3
This thread should be about how ascended stats can make a difference.
Are we talking about Agony Resistance or what’s the big deal about Ascended Gear? I don’t get it. If you tell me 90 main stat points make a real difference then I wonder what’s going on with the design.
Well, 90 may not be a lot. But what about 900 when multiply that across the full group needed for raids? 900 may be a noticeable difference.
That only applies to offensive stats, but they wanted to encourage us to invest into defensive stats, as far as I remember.

Boon duration still doesn’t affect Nature’s Vengeance Might (Frost Spirit) and Swiftness (Storm Spirit) durations. It does only seem to work for Water, Sun and Stone Spirit as well as for Spirit of Nature.
Boon duration doesn’ t seem to apply on Buffs given out by Nature’s Vengance. I have 40% increased boon duration and the tooltip says Swiftness(4 1/4s), but it actually is only 3 seconds.
Or is boon duration in general broken?
Sounds like a broken CPU.
Edit: On second thoughts, could be a power management or overclocking problem.

We really should be able to keep our pets stored during battle if we want. Necros can do it.
+1 this, Anet pls.
Not sure if ironic.
So what exactly was so surprising? Looked all pretty generic to me.
Disclaimer: I am a PvE player and main Ele/Ranger (no, not secondary class :P ).
My rating based on how fun/usefull the elite specs are:
- Chronomancer – I love the theme and skills of it. Rewind <3
- Reaper – The only weapons in the game that I found to look awesome are GSs/Swords, and I like the theme of the hard hitting fiend.
- Herald – Pretty supporty and brings some nice survivability; hopefully I finally get a character that can proudly wield my Flameseeker Prophecies.
- Scrapper – I like the utility gyro’s concept (F) and I think it could be a pretty good supporty spec.
- Daredevil – Monkey King; ’nuff said.
- Dragonhunter – I dislike the name (hah! bet you didn’t see this coming), Skills are nice, but slow.
- Berserker – Low ranking because I think it’s too generic (and I dislike Warrior class).
- Tempest – Last rank cause I really really really wanted Swords for my Battle Mage…
Please let me give Druid a high ranking Anet. Q.Q/
9. Druid – Sorry, I dislike the concept of a generic Healbot.
The dream is ded.
So, where’s the crazy promised increases with DX12 […]
GW2 does not use any DX12 features, and graphics vendors are probably not rewriting their already working DX9 drivers.
HoT will introduce Tryia-Masteries and you will be able to level them after 80. The XP bar will be replaced with a mastery-bar.
HoT is more than a month away, and masteries (to my understanding) will only be available to people who have purchased HoT.
But the main game is free now and HoT might be awesome.

Rate based on what?
- Once this is live, we anticipate future incursions of the Mordrem will take place as planned, and rewards will be given as intended.
Does this mean the event is on halt until the issues are resolved?
Guys, this is another unnecessary thread about a clear L2P issue.
As the attached images, an example from a recent fractal run, illustrate, reading the telegraphed ability activations is not an issue in GW2.… Wait a moment….
I’m sorry that I can’t +1 you more than once.
Nice Charr slot you have there.
I’m sad – time to finish Dark Souls \o/
It’s not Gold it’s Blue
You mean black.
While we’re on it, can we also disable other player’s voices?
Taunt will be usefull for those pesky beetles. :P
I’d rather have their programmers add things to the actual game-engine instead of improving an overall good graphics engine.
I’d rather want them to add new masteries every few months than having to unlock the same thing over and over again for my alts.
I must say though, if the content is really that fun, then I’m okay with character bound masteries. If you would unlock those masteries through SAB I would play the hell out of it. :P
I got hyped over almost every episode of S2 – so I would call S2 a success.
It’s a LEGENDARY weapon … work for it and stop whining like a kitten
Working for it through map completion over and over again doesn’t sound like fun to me.
I want to see glider adventures that work like the missions in Pilot Wings! =D
If this really is the best community in online gaming, then I don’t want to live on this planet any more.
Edit: JK, twitch chat is horrible when there are more than 1k ppl.
Hmm, can we drop sigils/runes in the mystic forge? Would be kind of nice to be able to at least try to upgrade weak sigils/runes/seals/etc into better ones.
You already can do that. You can’t do that with exotic ones though.
Then throw in the inevitable hardware/driver bugs in the implementations of the newer standard that will require workarounds…it’s a ton of time and effort.
This. So much this. It makes me sad as well. I looked a whole day for a bug in my code until I realized that the bug was caused by AMD’s driver implementation. ~~

By the way, foxfire are rare drops from Mordrem as well.
Not enough people seem to have noticed this, and as a result not enough people are complaining about it. In order to make up for the fire trail nerf (which needed to happen) we were supposed to be compensated with a strong single damage strike on Fiery Rush. The skill tip damage has been updated, but the actual attack still does the pathetic old damage.
Now that explains things. I was wondering for a long time if the pathetic damage on that skill was still intended.
This has been an issue since release basically. Sometimes you seem to get the reward, but I think it only works if the event concludes before you time out on the server.
I hope it will addressed sometime in the near future, but I guess we would have to wait for a feature pack – changing the current system might be difficult.
Yes I noticed this as well – it reminds me a lot of Orr.
Still a downgrade, it used to be you didnt have to click.
I agree, I am pretty annoyed by this change. There is no obvious reason why this was changed.
What is this title? It should read “I cannot complete Monthly”. I am a PvE only player and have absolutely no problem completing them. I would have not issues with this thread if you had included some suggestions to improve the current system, but in this state it’s just another “whine-thread”.
The part in the Inquest base really looks like a stealth mission kind of thing. I hope we get stealth-specific skills to outplay the AI. \ò/
Like I said before, flashback episode into Caithe’s past. The PC you see turning into Caithe just happen’s be Sylvari cause that’s what the Dev’s are playing as. Makes for a good video =p
Actually, this makes a lot of sense.
So what are our conclusions from this trailer? Some human impersonating Caithe? Did she get transformed into a Sylvari by the Pale Tree? In general the whole thing looks like a massive flashback.
It also looks like Faolain (or somebody that looks like her) and some other Sylvari were captured by the Inquest and experimented on (maybe Omadd was part of this?).
Lastly, we see Centaur’s negotiating with Caithe (?), but then all hell breaks loose and they slaughter each other. What’s going on?! \ò/
Edit: Oh by the way, the phrase at the beginning ’To catch a thief one must first become a thief" – sounds like this human was/is on the hunt for somebody.
I’m not sure what we really see here. If it’s Caithe on the left, she has different hair and generally looks different. The Sylvari on the right might indeed be Faolain.
But maybe it’s a flashback where we see Caithe and Faolain years ago or sth.
Edit: By the way, this picture was taken at the Inner Inquest Complex in Metrica Province. It’s a secret Inquest lab in the north east of the area.

The whole lack of direct communication now has me feeling like the direction of the game itself might be in limbo and that is worrisome. Isn’t it odd that all these new hires and ads for specific people (one would associate with expansion like content) have hit so far down the road, 2 years in? I think to be honest the silence is a way to keep us all distracted from the truth, LS and rehashed holiday content is all that is on the horizon for a very long time and if they do lay out the roadmap the fear is that many will simply walk away and stop supporting the game.
Think about it and tell me you don’t draw the same conclusions at this point. Why the silence, why the lack of a roadmap, why the lack of specific answers regarding things like dungeons, classes, traits, races?
This thought has crossed my mind as well sadly.
