It was awesome finally getting to go up against JQ. I know your NA is going through a bit of challenging times but it was still great to face off against [SF], [SG], and of course [RATS]

The never-ending stream of missionaries trying to convert us to the Gospel of Jedsus Chris during SEA was annoying and a waste of time though that tribute vigil you made to our Golem God was quite impressive.

(Seriously, Waha and Co. aren’t a Zerg… they are a Force of Nature :O)

And FA – great performance! Your NA was tenacious and aggressive throughout the week and the score only reflects coverage not commitment.

I really hope we get to see more matches like this. I think JQ/TC/DB would be really interesting during SEA!

But we arent done fighting.

We had Garrison back within an hour later. In the meantime, I thought it was interesting that JQ zerged Longview to take down my 2nd treb. We ended up taking Longview and Garrison around the same time. Kudos to all the TC who participated in the Battle of TC Garrison. Lord’s circle was up for 10-15 min I think, before JQ finally capped.

This is the first time a lot of our SEA have ever had to face non-stop T1 pressure and it is coming from the strongest SEA force in GW2.

We’ve managed to push Waha to stay up till 4am and forced JQ to use 30+ Omegas on our Garrison after an hours-long battle.

To me, considering how the week started I am so proud of our SEA and call that a major victory. You guys are awesome!

wow TC is full during NA time, it feels like there is a lot out on the wvw maps to show for it.

TC tends to fill up whenever new content is released. Not unlike JQ we have a HUGE PvE population.

Wouldn’t be surprised if a few of the people returning are also checking out WvW but we can pretty-solidly queue 2-3 maps in NA Primetime now.

I do wish people would realize that Server Status isn’t the same as WvW population though. TC spent months as FULL with no queues at all :P

FA and DB don’t have the coverage TC does.

For people who care about improving our server strategies and tactics, for honing our skills at Scouting, Defense, Strike Teams, Havoc Squads, and cross-guild/cross-map coordination a match with a T1 Server was needed.

FA and DB both have great guilds and there have been some good fights against them but working on your overall meta-game requires Servers with equal or better coverage to your own. This is a HUGE learning opportunity for TC and I hope we are able to take advantage of it.

Ive heard people mention SEA a lot on this matchup. What does that mean exactly in regards to WvW?

South East Asia – JQ has the largest WvW player-base from that region of any Server.

Since WvW is fought 24/7 having players from all regions of the world can have a big impact on how well a Server does during the week.

TC and FA have some but not near JQ’s numbers. We’ll keep coming out and fighting all week but expect to see huge PPT/Point-swings between different times of the day.

I’m contending that the TC group that day was so zerged up that there was no small ops group, just 2 zergs of 30+ roaming around.

Something missed in all the FW’ing; I kinda like you guys. I also recognize that your “A” team hasn’t been trying as hard so you aren’t at “full power”. However, you will be tested eventually and I hope you don’t embarrass yourselves, (because who wants to say they got beat by a server who couldn’t cut it?)

Good theory on paper but doesn’t work in practice.

When those 7 people and that camp being flipped are “the only action in town” that’s where the Zerg is going to roll.

We will have to use completely different and improved tactics if the ANet RNG Gods ever grant us a chance to fight a higher-ranked Server again and chances are if they do the match won’t go well for TC because we are rusty and lazy with a lot of our more serious WvWers losing interest. The worst part is we would only likely get matched up for a week while I know it takes TC 2-4 weeks to adapt to higher competition.

We do have guilds and individuals working on training and stuff right now but WvW is a PvP activity and people like to find fights even if it means 30v7.

My experience with FA is that individual skill of players and guilds are quite lacking. Once they face opponents with similar coverage they perform very poorly.

Yeah whether #2 as every other week or a different rotating schedule it would be nice if Servers outside NA “T1” could actually play their “natural” opponents again.

And I’m not saying all 6 of my ideas should or need to be implemented just those were 6 things they could do among many others.

Vena your points are solid but there are a number of things ANet can do to still help improve things:

1. Lower the RNG on the Ratings Deviation used for Matches (better chance of Servers close in Rank playing each other)
2. Switch to a “One Week Random/One Week Tier” Schedule so at least every other week Servers would play those they are supposed to be closest to in Rating
3. Add a Handicapping System so matches can still be competitive even with imbalanced Coverages
4. Redo the whole Scoring System so that the weaker 2 Servers in a match have some incentive to team up on the strongest one
5. Break the matches into “Weekend” and “Weekday” formats where fewer Maps count for WvW Scoring during the week helping to offset huge coverage imbalances
6. Lower Map Capacity to both force people on over-populated Servers to choose between long queues or transferring (preferably with a Free Transfer Window to lower-ranked Servers) and also reduce/eliminate Skill Lag

Several of these should be easy for ANet to implement quickly while others might take more work, but all we’ve seen so far is silence and it is definitely hurting the game not helping.

My take on it is the more lopsided the match, the less people on higher-tiered Servers can be kittened to bother with sweeping.

It’s one thing when you are in a match where every point counts, and another where a poor sweep resulting in a flip just gives the zerg something to do :P

I wouldn’t call TC T1.5 until/unless we get a JQ/DB/TC or JQ/BG/TC or SoR/T1/TC matchup. That would give us a clearer picture of how close we are to T1.

I say “T1.5” because while a TC/FA/DB match would be much better than “Randomania” we have now fought both FA and DB recently and I’m pretty sure TC would have a solid win in that match just due to coverage while at the same time TC would get handled pretty well by “T1” Servers once again due to coverage.

TC isn’t “T1” but its coverage is now much better than any Server outside of it.

And just so we’re clear Gellor – DB is a great Server with a lot of great people and Guilds. I love fighting against [TG] and [EA] and am thrilled to see that [FIRE] and [rB] are doing well.

The difference is Coverage and only Coverage.

Three weeks ago you played against SoR once and came second by 120000 points and I don’t reckon they were out there in full force. As far as i can see it is the only time you played against a current “T1” server.

While I feel for you guys, I think you are a bit stuck at the moment. Just don’t talk yourselves up too much – other servers have done that in the past and it ended badly.

No. A lot of TCers who come out in lopsided matchups are fairweathers. Once we start fighting a tougher, better enemy, they will stop showing up. It really depends how many people will stick around after the reset weekend honestly. We should be more competitive next time, but we wont win unless we have more hardcore WvWers who don’t quit when the tough gets going.

Anyone who remembers reset saturday/sunday that weekend knows what I mean. We didn’t have nearly as many queues, and in a lot of maps, we were outmanned. Comparing that to when we had a few maps queued, and a good force on each map save maybe one, and it’s pretty clear what’s going on.

I don’t think that would be as much of an issue if it was a real “T1” kind of fight. So, a fight like TCvSoRvBG(or JQ). When we faced SoR, we had a 3rd server that, because of a massive population difference, just couldn’t be nearly as active against either TC or SoR. This led SoR to focus a lot on us with very little distractions only because we had the popuation. If there was a 3rd server with a more equal population, then I think the match up would be very fun actually! I would love to have a SoRvBG/JQvTC match!

So you guys didn’t like when the server that had more people and more coverage focused on the second place server over the even less populated 3rd place server.

I don’t see anywhere that he’s saying we “didn’t like” being focused by SoR, merely that it happened. Many of us both expected and valued SoR focusing us – the only way you get better is to fight better competition.

All he was saying is that we could be more competitive than we were in a match featuring another T1 Server. More of our casual/fairweather players would keep coming out if the score was closer.

The SoR/SoS match was the best TC has had since ANet went to this new random system (with Mags/SoS surprisingly being 2nd for me – they came out and fought all week and didn’t whine on the forums about TC having more numbers).

The big problem is, you really want to be able to ensure that similar numbers of players move off of all 3 of SoR, BG and JQ. While a lot of players wouldn’t mind tier 1 being closer in strength to tier 2, I’m sure nobody from tier 1 wants to move to a lower tier and discover that one of the other servers stayed stacked and is now the undisputed king of the hill.

That’s why I think ANet’s best solution is to reduce the “Map Cap” to 60 per Server.

People will transfer off the top Servers when they simply can’t get in to play without multiple hour queues and we would see less lag in large fights

As somebody who has recently fought both Servers, either SoS or FA would be a solid fit for you.

Both Servers have decent overnight coverage (SoS Oceanic is really solid) but could use more NA to battle the likes of TC and DB (though why SoS has been matched with TC 4 out of 5 weeks is beyond me :P).

FA already has a decently-established NA so would be a better choice if you want support during your Guild’s primetime while SoS would greatly benefit from a “BL-focused” Guild as they mostly had to bunker in EB against us during NA (which they did very well).

Both Servers know how to fight and will bring it all week long.

Oh, and I’m still contractually-obligated to say FA sucks and they use Sonar Beards to cheat

Well, there are 2 days before the reset, and now with your rating you have all the chances to get a “not boring game.” Be careful what you wish for <_<.

We’re actually losing rating at the moment this week. Not a lot so ANet must be thrilled things are “stabilizing” – I mean SoS is gaining rating so they can have more “wonderful” matchups like this week, and Mags is losing a little though not enough to keep them out of more matches like the current one.

The system is broken because there isn’t any form of parity or even smooth distribution of population across the Tiers. 3-4-5 (JQ-TC-DB) would likely be at least a fun match and hopefully a good one. Not sure FA would appreciate the “SoR-BG sandwich” that would force them into though.

SoR-BG-TC would be a lot more fun for TC than the current match. No we wouldn’t win but could hopefully make a showing close to JQ’s performance. I know [Iron] can’t wait for a chance to Chest-Thump PvDoor TC again (as seen in your post) and I’m sure some TC posters will whine about it if the match happens but at least NA would be fun with things to do.

I’d really laugh though if the “RNG Gods” gave us BG-JQ-TC 3 weeks in a row and SoR could have so much fun against rank 5-12 Servers.

I do agree with what others have said about ANet needing to make sure all Professions have a decent mix of Fields and/or Blast Finishers. That is far more important to the Meta (and just overall Class Balance in general) then trying to force people into “hard roles” based on certain Classes.

Every Build should have a counter and no Build should be an automatic “IWin” against any Spec.

Your problem isn’t “zomg game broken” it’s that you are a using a gimmick build with overloaded/imbalanced stats.

Considering how quickly Necros can reapply Conditions and also how every Weapon has both Direct Damage as well as Condition skills there’s a really simple solution to your “problem” – swap out 2-3 pieces of your Rabid set and equip Knights and now you can burn down those 25% Engis yourself.

The key is going to be how is this system going to be scored.

My thought was that in Phase 2 EBG and only EBG contributes to the WvW score.

The other 3 Maps become more “sandboxes” or “playgrounds” for people to have fun in. I do think it would be interesting if ANet could add statistics for Guild Captures (or Defends) during GvG map play but part of the idea here is those three maps can operate under different rules and even different events then during Phase 1.

The “World Completion” map might look just like a Borderland but it can have completely different Dynamic Events, maybe even a major Boss Fight and Towers, Keeps, and Camps could function completely differently as it is expanded over time.

ANet can even alternate between EBG and a BL Map for the “WvW Map” so for some matches people could play on a BL during the week using the current rule set.

Part of the idea here is many more Servers can compete during the week if the scoring is only taking place on one map while still offering players things to do outside of PvE or sPvP during the week if they can’t get in to the WvW Map (and at the same time offering new play styles that people have been requesting).
