Knights of Ares [ARES] - Apply Now

Clerics is alright for survivability/utility, but it would not be my first choice for gear. I think you may want to try using mostly “Knights Gear” if you want to “Tank”, as it will keep your damage fairly high, while still allowing you to absorb direct damage. You could also mix in some “Valkyrie Gear” as well to increase your HP and Crit, some “Soldiers Gear” if you want to be really “Tanky”, or some “Zerker Gear” to increase your overall damage.
But i think your main issue is actually your weapon choices. Try running a 0/0/30/20/20 as Foofad suggested, but use a Hammer instead of your current setup. With your increased boon time you should have near perma-protection. Which will reduce the damage you take by 33%, as well as triggering AH to heal you. It will also give you some CC skills and a self-combo for AoE Retaliation.
Also your utility skills play a big role in your survivability and group utility, make sure you are picking them and using the wisely, as well as timing your dodges and heals carefully.

The Knights of Ares [ARES] on Dragonbrand is now recruiting.
If you are new to Guild Wars or a seasoned Veteran, we have a spot for you.
We are a casual North American guild, that is filled with skilled players, and we are looking to expand. We are building a community not just a guild. A place built upon mutual respect where people can come to learn, help others, complete their goals, make new friends or just hang out. We are mainly a PvE guild, but we have started raiding WvW weekly as well. As we grow we will be venturing into PvP, as well as increasing our presence in WvW.
We do daily Dungeon runs, as well as high level & low level FoTM runs, to help our 170 members with their progression or daily’s. All of our leaders and officers are Dungeon Masters, so we know all the paths and can take people through dungeons effectively and efficiently. But we are also willing to help new members learn about dungeons and dungeon tactics, as well as helping them to acquire the gear they want/need. We have weekly Bounty Hunts, Guild Treks, Guild Rushs, WvW raids, as well as other in game events, and those will be increased as we expand and unlock more upgrades.
We provide our members with Experienced Leadership, Magic Find Bonuses, Experience Bonuses, a Voice Chat Server, a Website for scheduling, as well as a Private Forum to post on if they need advice or have any requests.
We are an experienced team of North American, European & Australian members. But most of our player base is North American and we are busiest during prime time in the evenings and on the weekends.
We prefer that our members are on the Dragonbrand server, but we will accept anyone wanting a great dungeon experience or who wants to make new friends while learning about this great game. As the guild expands we will also be looking for additional Officers/Leaders who enjoy scheduling and running events, as well as teaching new members.
We require 100% representation. You must be 18 years of age or older. There are no minimum level requirements. All professions are welcome. Mumble (voice chat) is not required but it is recommended. Our only other rule is to treat fellow members with respect regardless of their rank.

What are the best EST times to do this?
We run learning groups for the public on Saturday mornings (8 am till noon, MST).
Just message me during that time and I can get you into a group.
We also do runs for our “newer” guild members most nights, so you can message me then as well and I can get you in a group if we have room.

Server only matters if you are European.
As NA and EU servers cannot play together. Me and my guild are North American, so you will be able to join us. We are actually on Dragonbrand as well.

The Knights of Ares just hosted our 3nd “learn this dungeon” weekend this past Saturday. We took 8 people who had contacted us, through FoTM on Saturday morning, and it was a lot of fun. The best part about learning FoTM is that there is no level requirement, though we do recommend a minimum level of 30, so you can have access to your elite skills. We will be hosting another FoTM run this upcoming Saturday.
If you are interested in joining us next Saturday, send us a message in game or leave a reply in our guild forum post.
Good luck and happy dungeoning.
I am willing to bet you are either using Map chat or GW2LFG to find your dungeon runs. And as good as the GW2LFG is for finding quick parties, they do not always end with a happy ending, as it seems you have already found out. There have been numerous threads about this happening to people. I personally have never been kicked, so I don’t really know how you feel. But some people will kick you if they feel you are not pulling your “weight” in the dungeon. To avoid this I would recommend that you find yourself a good Dungeon guild that is willing to help you, as PUG’s can often lead to unnecessary frustration, arguements and kicking from groups. There is a list of some of the Dungeon Guilds that are recruiting on this forum. You can check there to find the one you prefer.
(edited by RagingDragon.9475)
Join a dungeon guild mate. My guild still runs AC and all the other dungeons for members that need it. Look in the Guild Recruitment thread on the forum to find one on your server. Or you can try GW2LFG.com.
From the “Welcome to the Guild Recruitment Subforum” thread that no one reads.
The purpose of this subforum is to make a thread to publicize your guild. As these threads are for recruitment purposes and not for discussion, replies are disabled in this subforum. It is because of this change in how recruitment threads work, we have archived the old Guild subforum in the Archive category at the bottom of the forum.
Working as intended, but this makes it impossible to update our roster, rules, unlocks, etc…. Let alone, allow us to bump our threads to show that we are still active. I am just waiting to see how long it takes before people just start double posting….
Ya I just noticed that as well…..
The Knights of Ares are still recruiting!
Don’t be just another number! Come be a part of our team!

You made 2 mistakes.
First one is PUGing while you are learning. – Join a decent dungeon guild
Second is not telling them you are new. – They would have given you pointers hopefully
Check out the thread below to contact people that are willing to teach you.
That sucks man.
Best way to do it is try during off hours for NA. As there are typically less people online then, so there will be room on the server. Hope to see you online soon mate.
(edited by RagingDragon.9475)
Nope we make do with whatever class you want man. Warriors and Guardians are in high demand though, for some of the endgame Dungeons.

Cool mate,
Just message one of us and we will send you an invite.
Welcome to Guild Wars 2.
Furry guild here on TC, here’s some info!
200+ furries!
Home World: Tarnished Coast
Guild Name: Tail Swishers [Furs]
Guild Website: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/gw2furries
In-Game Contact: Dragsooth.4071 or Sawnic.6795
Focus: PvX, PvE, PvP, WvW, and even some RP
Quick Notes: We are a furry focused guild. We accept furries and furry tolerant!
Wow. Necro much?
If your going to copy/paste recruit at least look at the date….
He is actually fairly easy. Most parties wipe during the pull.
The easiest way to counter that in a PUG is to have a Guardian use “Stand Your Ground”. The Stability stops him from being able to pull anyone in. So even if someone missed dodging it, it keeps them from going down. And then make sure you take the adds out ASAP. Especially the Necro during his 3rd summon.

Heya mate,
You should post what server you are playing on and your schedule. It will help the few of us that actually read the posts, before the copy/paste guilds get to you. lol
Cheers
Most decent groups will not kick you based on class. But there is an issue with PUG’s. And that is you have no idea what you are getting into. Some will accept Rangers others will not, because they view Ranger as a weak PvE class.
Also you are below level 80, and even though you may meet the base level requirements for the dungeon, alot of PUG’s wont accept you at that level regardless of class (they only want 80’s). The only places I have seen alot of people kicked due to class is in FoTM 30+, as they actually do tend to slow down groups, or for CoF speed runs.
If you want to avoid being kicked based on your class join a Dungeon guild.
(edited by RagingDragon.9475)
Yes paying for gems and converting to gold is the quickest way.
But really you could farm enough gold or dungeon tokens in about a week.
Hey Xta,
When someone told you there was “no difference in the stats” they mean that if you compare Knight’s gear to Knight’s gear they are equal so the only difference would be the look. But each type of armor can have different stats that it raises.
For example:
Knight’s Armor has Power, Precision, Toughness boosts.
Soldier’s Armor has Power, Vitality, Toughness boosts.
But both will have the exact same armor rating.
Since you are new to 80, I would recommend either farming dungeons for gear, or just getting an exotic set from the Orr Temples to tide you over.
You can get Knight’s gear from the TP, WvW or either of the dungeons SE or Arah. SE is rarely run so you might have trouble finding consistent groups. And most groups will not take “new to dungeons” people into Arah.
(edited by RagingDragon.9475)
You have to make your way over to Lion’s Arch. You can find a portal inside every major city. Then there is a boat down at the Sanctum Harbor docks that will take you there.
Hope that helps.
Hey Tu,
Right now there is a big event on Southsun Cove. Which is where all of the players are at. So it might seem lifeless at the moment but it really isn’t. If you head there you will have plenty of people to interact with.
Good luck in your search for a guild though.
Hey Malimber,
Sorry I never received anything. If you want just message me in game, or on our recrutiment forum post if you are interested.
Hey Crystal,
I sent you a PM with some info about our guild on Dragonbrand.
Hey Malimber,
Sent you a PM about our guild on Dragonbrand.
Heya mate,
Welcome to the game, and I sent you a PM.
Hey Slantize,
First off, welcome back to GW2. PUG’s(Pick Up Groups) are really a hit or miss. You have no way to determine skill level and patience threshold before you enter a dungeon. And unfortunately in society now a days, patience is a virtue that is rarely practiced. Now don’t get me wrong PUG’s can be fantastic, but you just need to be aware what you are getting into. Which is why I recommend joining a dungeon guild over GW2LFG, there are plenty of these types of guilds on every server and they are usually helpful.
Also Strife’s videos are not good learning material for the “new to dungeons”. They are videos of an optimized team, with optimized builds, that have the best gear available, and know all of the strategies already, because they have already run that dungeon 100 times. Which makes them an unfair comparison for the average player.
Not to mention that they are also running level 80’s. As level 80 they will have access to gear that boosts 3 sets of stats, they will have more traits available, as well as having more of their utility skills unlocked. All of this means that they will actually have a significant boost in their survivability and damage from the average “new to dungeons” player. So don’t be discouraged if you are running into difficulties.
If you want you can sent me a message in game and we can get you into our next “learning dungeons” run. And I’ll have one of my officers give you some pointers for the profession you are using. We will be doing AC this Saturday, so as long as you have a level 35+ profession you can join us.

May I refer players to you all or your guilds? I often spend time in game trying to mentor new players, but I don’t have teamspeak or much in the way of guild resources. It would be great if I could direct them to more experienced/optimized players somehow.
Sure, we are currently doing weekly runs for non-members.
They can contact us in game, through our website or through here.
Sent you a PM.
Hey Sparkle,
We are one of the few guilds that actually do what we advertise. In most guilds people tend to bunch together. So even though there may be 500 members you might actually know 20 of them. I have partied with every one of our 160 Members at some point. We encourage people to actually socialize in guild chat and on our voice chat.
But don’t just take my word for it. I sent you an invite so you can try us in game.
The Knights of Ares just hosted our first “learn this dungeon” weekend.
We had a great showing of 15 people who were new to dungeons and wanted to learn.
Including Cavendish who posted looking for a “Dungeon Mentor”.
If you are interested in joining us for the next one, send us a message in game or leave a reply in our guild forum post.
Good luck and happy dungeoning.

These are the base level requirements, alot of PUG’s wont accept you at thet level though. Make sure if you are posting on GW2LFG that you mention you are new to the dungeon. You may get less invites and it will take longer to get a group but you eliminate the chance of being kicked in the middle of the dungeon.
Great Idea Dramen,
My guild currently does the same thing for our members, but we would be interested in teaming up with you on this to help the community. Let me know if you need any help.
Cheers

Welcome to all of our newest members. We are growing quickly.
Come join the best community on Dragonbrand!
(edited by RagingDragon.9475)
On the LFG website the “level” line for fractals actually refers to the level of the dungeon, not your character level. FoTM actually goes up to level 50 currently, so you are trying to join a high level run by accident. For high level runs you need specific gear and infusions(see the response above about AR).
You can run pre 10 at any level as FoTM will up level you, but you are still limited in the amount of skills you have unlocked and your stats are lower than a “true 80” due to the armor, traits and skills you have available . I took a couple of my guild members that were only level 10 on a run last week and they did great, so that goes to prove it is more about the skill of the player than the level, but most PUG’s will kick you if you are less than 80.
I recommend you join a dungeon guild that is willing to teach you.
(edited by RagingDragon.9475)
Just for the record I wasn’t trying to recruit you (I only do that on the Guilds page). lol
I was just offering to let you join in one of our “learn this dungeon” runs. We run them weekly for new members to teach them dungeons and boss mechanics, and since your guild won’t take you under its wing, we will. We do ask you join us in Mumble though so I don’t have to type. And also that even if you go down you still watch the fight and don’t just afk. You can usually learn more from just watching and listening during a run that you are participating in than from posted videos. As you will hear us adjust our strategies as needed.
Me and my guild officers would also help you for free mate. We are all dungeon masters and run dungeons for our members all the time. We are a NA guild so we are mostly on evenings and weekends, so the times should be perfect for you. Check out the links in my signature for more info or message me in game and I will take you on a couple runs. We use mumble to communicate in dugeons, as it is easier to explain it than to type it. Plus I am a slow typer…. lol
Edit: I will be running dungeons from 5pm Central to midnight tonight if you want to join us on a run
