how do you deal with conditions?

Also the stupid bugs on Unrelenting Assault need to be fixed that let you get hit and applied with conditions while using Unrelenting Assault. Lastly, the bug that makes confusion damage hit for every strike of your Unrelenting Assault. It’s like Retaliation on steroids and it’s so annoying.

You sure those are bugs? Pretty sure the second is working as intended. And on the former, if you mean due to moving through wells/traps, that seems like legit counter play.

Confusion should be proccing on each individual skill being used not on each strike. That’s how confusion is advertised as working. Retaliation procs on every hit so this is definitely a bug. Daredevils are having a similar issue where every time they dodge, they take extra confusion damage as apparently the dodges for Daredevil count as skill activation. Also about the first point I made, see Burtnik’s response.

Yeah it’s bugged. I’ve been hit by conditions while in Unrelenting Assault as well and I don’t just mean confusion proccing which is also another stupid bug.

I don’t think it evades damaging condis from certain attacks that aren’t the type to proc on crit/hit, just direct damage attacks. But I could be misunderstanding what you meant. I haven’t had a coffee yet today…

Actually what seems to happen is that Unrelenting Assault does 7 strikes, after each of those strikes, there is a brief moment where you are actually vulnerable. If you look at Burtnik’s photo in this thread, you will see it proves this theory. Which you can say is counterplay to UA but at the same time, it’s really dumb as it does something similar to Beta Weekend 2 Unrelenting Assault as in it makes you dive into certain death and take hits that you have no way of avoiding if timed right.

I was using Runes of the Revenant for a while but realized that Hoelbrak is just fine for defense against conditions(or at least it will be once Staff 4 is fixed). I can usually win fights against condi specs but it is a bit tough, gotta time my glint heal right and pretty much use shiro’s heal whenever its off cd to outheal the condi damage. Also popping the glint heal passive regen helps as well as the healing will help mitigate the condi damage. Lastly, I run Assassin’s Annihilation in Devastation and chance to heal when struck on Retribution to help further mitigate condi damage as well and a sigil of generosity in pvp(sigil of purity in WvW until i can afford a generosity one).

I do pretty well though as long as I’m able to avoid the majority of condi bursts. The key really is to keep pressuring them and dodge the confusion, torment, and burning attacks. Bleeding is fine as long as you don’t let it stack too much. Also be sure to preserve energy if using Shiro while fighting a Reaper as you definitely want to use Riposting Shadows to keep the chill off of you. Shield would also help mitigate condi damage a lot by letting you heal it off if you’re using it.

Staff 4 definitely needs to get fixed asap. I can beat condi specs but it is a HUGE uphill battle especially with Offhand Sword instead of Shield.

I gave constructive feedback to help you not waste energy so… yeah. Also Revenant is borderline OP right now. If weapons didnt have energy usage, then you could freely spam your utility skills so stuff like Quickness on Shiro would be way easier to use and you could use glint’s facets even more. Probably have all of them on at the same time while freely using your weapon skills.

Your mistake as a Revenant is spamming your skills. You gotta play it similarly to Thief in some ways. Rely on your auto for dps, only use skills if you really need to and also back off from fights if you need to and let your energy recharge.

Lmao @ Kolly’s sig and that gif.

Also, yeah it does suck that Thief is not viable in Raids and just barely viable in PvP atm. I think part of the problem with Thief is that it relies too much on stealth and stealth attacks as a gimmick. One of the things I love about The Old Republic mmo is how they did the stealth classes. Basically while they do rely on stealth for their opening attack and for escaping sticky situations, throughout the fight they mostly use cc’s and snares to setup backstabs and bursts and when they do manage to setup a nasty burst, it’s arguably the strongest in the game which is how a rogue/assassin class should be(and what Mesmer kinda is right now, stupidly enough). They can also take hits for a bit meaning that while they are squishy compared to a Warrior type class, they don’t die as soon as something touches them. Whereas GW2 stealth gameplay revolves around constantly stealthing and hoping your enemy sucks at predicting attacks and that they won’t catch you without evades or stun breaks.

I’ve fought plenty of Revenants on my Daredevil, Berserker, Reaper, and Scrapper and I usually win. When I see UA come up, I immediately dodge, block, invuln, or go into death shroud to soak it up.

Honestly, it does have a lot of counterplay, you just have to know when to do what. Also if a Revenant comes out of nowhere when you’re already fighting someone else and you get ganked by a UA, that’s no different than a thief backstab/vault, mesmer burst, ranger rapid fire, berserker gun flame, or dragonhunter true shot. You’re almost guaranteed to get rekt by the rest so I don’t see why UA would be different. Only reason I would like to see UA get nerfed would be in terms of a 10-20% damage drop on it in favor of putting that damage into skill 2 and that’s it.

Tbth i threat UA as a defensive mechanic rather than offensive. I usually try to bait out stunbreaks for jade winds and aa with quickness during that time. Damage done is much higher and often if someone fall for it hes usually dead unless it was engi/war/mes with clones up and f4. Its quite hard to pull off as we dont have good access to hard cc but yet its far more dangerous.

For some idk reason when i try to aa someone with IO i usually miss tons of my attack even when i am next to the target – usually its the first hit that has problem connecting.

Same here, I use it mainly to avoid damage rather than dish it out.

Also I’m having that same problem. The sword 1 is super unreliable. I have to literally let go of my mouse while auto attacking sometimes for it to connect. It’s so annoying. I really wish they’re just increase it’s cone or make it a slashing attack.

I’m having a blast with it.

Dual Swords+Staff is my favorite setup with Shiro/Glint. Been winning most of my fights only losing out to Dragonhunters on occassion due to their ezpz trap spam “skills” and other Revenants. Also been having problems against highly skilled Reapers due to staff being completely unreliable for condition cleanse. That Staff 4 needs a fix seriously.

Overall, I feel like Revenant is pretty well balanced now but me personally, I’d drop the damage bonus on Hammer 2 at a distance. I think its a little too ridiculous considering you can’t see it coming from a distance. At least Rangers have a channeled skill, warriors have to setup killshots/gun flames, and Dragonhunters as well as all previous mentioned classes can have their nukes reflected. Not advocating for a nerf since I don’t really have a personal issue against hammer but I have seen what it’s capable of and can understand where the QQ is coming from.

Aside from that, Revenant will be a solid class once UA and Staff 4 bugs have been fixed and I can’t wait for those Revenant runes xD

I shelved my warrior after 4.5k hours of play on that character,. He now has a desk job as my BLTC broker. Parked in front of the trading post filtering buy and sell orders in his underwear. I stripped his gear and gave it to my newly leveled revenant (soon to be herald).

Hahahaha xD Sad but made me laugh.

I haven’t scrapped my Warrior as I do have hope for the future but he’s gonna sit in the sidelines until the meta is balanced out more.

Got to agree it’s poorly worded. It does say kill, not to complete the meta as a whole. Killing one of them would be fair enough for the achievement anyways. It does grant Gerent Slayer achievement, which is similarly worded.

That’s what I was thinking. But oh well, I suppose as the days go by, people will get the hang of the TD meta event and eventually beating it would become as regular as the Triple Trouble.

nah they are oroginally warrior who migrated to guardian!

Man… you just broke the cover of our double agents ! You killed the mission, now it is dead. Anet never ever will think that warrior is a kitten class in PvP !

Yesterday, I was discussing with a guy… he said to me : “Warrior is still OP, he was OP for 3year… Now it’s the turn of the others to be OP. Warrior’s job is to deal a HUGE amount of dmg (burst) and kill before die etc. With berserker Warrior can deal this damage! I don’t see the problem, I kill the warriors with any of my rerolls but it’s normal warrior is such a basic noobish class, either you burst or you die. With Warrior you have huge CC’s, and ENORMOUS BURST, you must kill before you die, you can’t have everything, let the others play etc” … (he doesn’t play warrior but saw the others play warrior).
Srsly, I don’t care if warrior have been in the meta for too long and now needs it’s retirement… I come back to the game since HoT, I don’t care! I want to play my fav class… And this Enormous burst dmg & CC’s (which doesnt exist anymore)…. I can hardy place them and it’s became normal or ridiculous compared to the other classes (and they have muuch more sustains)… Warrior can be too easily kited, controlled, dodged, temporized etc, and he doesn’t have any real gap closer…

I’ve tried the revenant… man I don’t even know if I’d go back to warrior… it feels much more like a real warrior. Dynamic gameplay, real stances (the legendary forms xD), real gap closers, HIGH DPS+Burst, Really good sustains. It’s really warrior v2!
Plus the revenant is much more quicker than warrior ! Warrior has so slow and scripted animations that you can easily dodge/predict.

It seems to me like a lot of Warriors either switched to Dragonhunter or Revenant and a lot of Thieves switch to Revenant or Chronomancer. It’s kinda sad. I actually thought the Berserker spec looked really awesome on paper. But with Chronomancers, Trap Dragonhunters, and Offhand Shield/Hammer Revenants running rampant and annihilating everything in pvp, it’s really hard for Berserkers to shine when all Berserker got was a ton of burning that’s useless for nearly every build.

Auto attack is literally the only reliable cleaving we have and you want to nerf it? :S

Seriously it’s good but not nearly OP. Sure the quickness + AA combo is deadly but guess what? It’s supposed to be! Sword on Revenant is a weapon that relies heavily on it’s AA for damage and nerfing it would be a huge mistake. If anything, nerf UA’s damage just a bit and buff Sword 2 and Sword 5.

Also removing block on Sword 4 would be another huge mistake. The mobile defense it offers is the only reason to pick it over Shield besides the unreliable pull on Sword 5.

revenant background?

Rain.9213

My personal explanation for it is that Revenants, pre-HoT, are just Ritualists who happened to be good with Swords and eventually learned to channel the spirit into their own body rather than externally. After HoT, Rytlock brought knowledge of how to use Glint and that’s why Revenants learned to channel Glint post-HoT. It’s kinda hard to fit into the lore but that seems like what Arenanet want’s people to see Revenants as before Rytlock returned.

I honestly just want them to kill that daze trait. Seriously. That is the only thing that bugs me about DH. The traps hurt but the fact that the daze can interrupt my blocks and heals is just way too much considering that DH’s now have a pull on Spear of Justice.

If anything just make one of the traps have a daze effect. Maybe Procession of Blades but aside from that, 4 easy aoe interrupts with one trapping you inside of an inescapable dragon head is wayyyy too much. Really disappointed that this trap spam is gonna continue. A team with 2 Dragonhunters has so much control of maps with those traps that it’s just not fun fighting them.

Sword #4 The block is fine, but Shackling Wave ’s range (300) is too short. Needs to be increased to 400 to be practical. (Based on my play as Ele D/D)

Sword #5: Grasping Shadow needs to be redesigned. It should shadow step you back regardless of if the attack succeeds or not. The range of the attack itself needs to be increased from 130 to 300.

The maximum distance you would move is 600. – This is less than or equal to thief shadow steps.
The maximum distance the target would move is 900. – This is less than or equal to pulls of other classes like Engineer and Necromancer.

Yeah both skills definitely need a range increase. However, I think OH Sword would be so good if Shackling Wave was an aoe around your character as this would allow you to snare multiple pursuers and let you have some survivability by giving you room to breathe.

I still really think that I would love to see a condition Greatsword elite spec for Revenant. I keep saying Kalla Scorchrazor as the legend too as she wields a greatsword and would offer us another female legend and our very first charr legend! That or…. SPOILERS!

Trahearne would also be awesome for a condition greatsword spec. Actually making it a hybrid condition/power, range/melee weapon like the underwater spear would be freakin awesome and let it synergize with the majority of Revenant builds. Plus it would be awesome communicating with him again and having him be your sidekick this time around. You could still be partners in the fight against the dragons too!

I want to point out another absolutely stupid bug with UA. First off, I’ve had moments where necros can apply conditions to me while UA is attacking. Not when I’m starting it but full on into the supposed “invulnerable state”. Second, it gets interrupted by any sort of wall or barrier skill such as fear wall on necro, elite trap and longbow 5 on dragonhunter. Third, I’ve had two separate occassions now where my camera gets disconnected from my character and my character just stands there unable to move or do anything. Both times I died as I was literally a sitting target. Combined with the silly wall and terrain bugs, it’s becoming very frustrating to use unrelenting assault…

It counts as an evade, not invuln, and is subject to the same rules as a dodge. You can’t dodge past a fear wall, or ring of warding, or etc. The failing to hit at all just because a pebble is nearby is an issue. Careful against walls as well because you can end up stuck within in some cases.

The camera thing is an issue. You have to do an emote like /dance to ‘fix’ it. It’s a lot like the movement bug issue.

kitten really? Well… looks like I’m gonna have to keep being really careful when I use UA against necros running fear walls and DH traps

Still, that wall bug when its actual game terrain needs to be fixed bad. I absolutely hate using it defensively in pve only for a mob to walk into a wall or ledge and have it bug out. It makes it extremely unreliable in anything other than open spaces.

Shiro's heal skill

in Revenant

Posted by: Rain.9213

Rain.9213

I’d never use enchanted daggers as a reliable heal, I use it more to combo with unrelenting assault. I guess that’s the trade-off for using shiro stance, since the damage output with having access to so much quickness is extremely strong on it’s own.

I tend to just jump legendary stance and try and take as much damage as possible to get the most out of my healing. If I’m honest, I’m completely fine with shiro stances healing.

Yeah you can usually burst someone down faster than they can with Enchanted Daggers+Quickness on Sword auto attack or UA. It’s insanely good. Furthermore, if healing is an issue, Off-hand shield provides plenty. I also began using Assassin’s Annihilation over Swift Termination as the added life steal ticks help to both sustain you and deal bonus damage. My survivability is crazy good now and I don’t even run Shield!

My only problem with DH is that stupid daze trait. The traps are really freakin strong but after several annoying deaths to them, I figured out which ones do what and how to counter them. However, that Daze trait is hideous against everything not fortunate enough to have stability and with knockback on longbow combined, I think it’s just a little too much considering Guardians can spam a wide area with traps and kill you effortlessly while preventing you from even touching them with aegis+invuln+shield of courage. Aside from that, I do think fighting DH traps are a L2P thing and I do REALLY love Dragonhunter. I run a meditation build on mine and find it much more rewarding and fun to play than simply spamming traps on some poor dudes and getting off easy nukes.

I am really saddened at the state of fractals. Prior to HoT I was big on fractals. Ran 2-3 every day and they were fun. Not crazy challenging but they at least required me to think about what I was doing. However, now I can simply run the lowest level fractals possible and get my dailies. It’s rather mind numbing and while I guess I could run fracs closer to 50, what’s the point? Part of the fun of fractals was doing your best to clear runs as painlessly as possible for a chance to get ascended gear or even a fractal weapon but with how easy it is to get dailies now, it’s become a snore fest. Sadly.

Guys. Shiro’s heal skill is literally Troll Unguent from Ranger except that it requires you to hit an enemy. In other words, it’s meant to sustain you in a fight rather than let you recover from nasty hits. Use it offensively and your other legend skill to actually recover. I’ve been able to survive 3v1’s on my Revenant using Shiro’s heal and Glint WITHOUT Shield and I’m not even the greatest Revenant. Using Shiro’s heal effectively is an l2p thing.

You mean “i have meet 3 noobs that keep attacking me under Glint healing me back to full hp” thing? Yeah, i believe that works pretty well.

__
Ps. the duration of Shiro heal is a joke..15 seconds? I can outstealth it on my thief if i want to or even simply evade over and over. Who ever thought 15sec duration is a good idea when it need at 20 so it can actually work with hammer and random blinds?

You know you can time the glint heal preemptively into an incoming burst to trick them into healing you right?

Either way if you don’t like Shiro’s heal, then don’t use it. Use Jalis or Mallyx. Shiro offers enough to be worth sacrificing an instant heal. I’m not having much trouble surviving with Shiro’s heal and as I said, I’m not the best Revenant so I’m sure better ones can out survive me even more.

Hello, this has been going on for a while and I figured maybe it would fix itself with a future path but HoT came out and it’s still happening. Basically whenever the game is closed either intentionally or by a crash, I have to wait somewhere between 10-15 minutes to launch it again. The game process will pretty much keep running in the background and I cannot even close it with Task Manager.

Now this is not a HUGE issue but it is a really annoying one as it has cost me several pvp matches and fractal runs as I either DC’d sometimes or crashed and had to wait a really long time to enter the game again. Also whenever I download a patch, I have to wait before I can even run the game to start downloading it.

Guild Wars 2 is the only game/process on my pc that does this and it’s so weird. I already tried repairing the game with the tips suggested in the FAQ using the shortcut repair method and this started happening with the specialization patch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I’ve been trying the new Daredevil specialization and really like it. I feel that it provides good survivability (much needed for thief) but also, what I believe to be higher damage than the other weapon sets.

I stood at the target dummies for over an hour trying different weapon sets, but always came to the conclusion that staff does slightly higher damage than the rest, yet people on this forum say dagger does more, sword does more, pistol does more. What I’m trying to say is that I don’t see anything solid. Everyone says differently.

I’m curious about both open world and dungeons/eventual raids.

P.S. Another thing, why does everyone say Weakening Charge does high damage? It practically never hits all 3 hits, and even if it did it does less damage than Vault.

You gotta position it right. Don’t do it right when you’re next to an enemy. Do it a tiny bit away from them and every hit should land. Also, if you use weakening charge and wait till the first hit is about to get off, you can steal from a distance and your character will spin in place after teleporting and land every hit in that one spot.

I did want to run Sinister but I don’t have armorsmithing yet haha. I was only able to craft the Sinister weapons. Also the bleeds were supposed to be the main damage from this build which is why I was originally running krait runes but I feel like perplexity might be a bit better. However there have been new runes added to the game. Gonna see if any of them have good synergy with this build

If that’s of any help to you, I run a carrion mace/sword hammer build in PvP and I found Nightmare runes to work best with it (condi damage, duration and a free interrupt).

Whoa now that you mention it, does the fear on that count as an interrupt? If so, I totally never thought of that! Haha that’s amazing if it does! I thought I was getting a good grasp of the condition playstyle but looks like I still have quite a ways to go. This is my first dedicated condition build so excuse the noobiness xD

Scrapper runes, weakening strikes, and dash will give 27% damage reduction plus fumble for 77% reduction every other attack. Steal some protection and you will be insanely hard to kill. 100% reduction on fumbles and 60% on all other attacks. This could actually be a decent bunker if you can cleanse conditions well enough.

Yeah its pretty crazy the amount of damage you can mitigate on Daredevil Glass cannon no more!

So Anet added some new Runes to the game for the Elite Specializations and it turns out, Runes of the Scrapper are actually REALLY good for a Staff Daredevil. You get increased damage reduction if you’re withing 600 range of an enemy, plus extra toughness and power. Running these runes, you’re free to pick up Havoc Master to deal more damage in close range plus use Dash for mobility+Swiftness. This is ideal for a brawler kind of Staff playstyle as you get a ton of damage reduction combined with Dash.

Just throwing it out there for ya!
