My main complaint is that they nerfed the Jalis line too much just because they didn’t want to nerf Herald for some reason, which made my core Power Revenant build completely obselete while before I could take it to ranked and win, and that quite a few skills on Revenant are bugged.

Unrelenting Assault bugging out if an enemy is near a ledge or wall, Vengeful Hammers bugging out if they hit a wall or terrain, Precision Strike hitting random objects and terrain and making you lose DPS, and the major lack of stability. These are all things I would really love to see fixed.

I agree. I’m actually glad they’re hitting those obnoxious dodge spamming builds. The most low skill build on Thief by far. Not that they’re unbeatable, on the contrary, most of those players aren’t very good. However, fighting them is completely annoying as hell. They’re not performing thoughtful decisions, just spamming dodges, and you’re just waiting till they run out of dodges to kill them. While I do think Daredevil is a strong elite spec, it’s design is mostly cancer and I should know! I was one of the first dodge spam users when HoT launched! xD Came up with one, if not the first, of the dual dagger condi Daredevil dodge spamming builds. I couldn’t believe how cheesy and easy it was to play.

While I appreciate some nerfs to Thief dodge spam despite being a Thief main myself and Necro GS buffs, the changes to Revenant are kind of bizarre and honestly, a bit useless.

Now don’t get me wrong the buff to Vengeful Hammers is nice but the fact that they turn off when they touch a wall or sometimes just an uneven surface, makes them rather unreliable. Someone suggested you change the skill to a pulsing AOE and keep the animation of the hammers so people know when they’re on and honestly, that seems like it would fix that bug entirely.

As for Alacrity on Ventari, I don’t know it just seems weird. It seems like an attempt to make healing/boonbot Revenant a thing in Raids but I highly doubt that looks attractive enough to your average raid group to justify reworking the comp just to slot a boonbot Revenant.

Not to mention the main issue with Ventari is that it feels really clunky to play. Someone else in the Rev forums brought up the idea of the tablet following you around like a spirit weapon. I kind of like this idea. You can then make each of the Ventari skills ground targeted so you don’t have to first move the tablet then cast the skill. You can just get the immediate effect that you want at the location you want. Then if you don’t cast a skill with the tablet after 3-4 seconds or so, it begins to follow you again. Obviously, using the projectile reflect skill on the tablet would root it unless you manually move it with one of the other ground target skills. Idk, this to me would be a much better improvement to the tablet and make it flow with combat a bit better than moving it first and then casting the skill you want from it.

So I switched to Hydromancy and Agility on my GS to get off quick bursts and Air/Leeching ony my Axe and Warhorn. Definitely seeing better results as you said. I’ve had a lot of success so far though. Aside from trouble with Rifle Berserkers, I’ve been able to beat every single class in ranked. Even winning several outnumbered fights!

Any suggestions for how to take down Rifle Berserkers with Axe/Warhorn and Greatsword?

I’ve had some degree of success. Though I’m kinda starting to lean towards Warhorn for Offhand. We’ll see. Signet of the Locust is also there for movement speed and a tiny bit of healing should you need it. It’s saved me a couple times. Though I feel that if I ran Warhorn, I could drop Signet of the Locust in favor of Flesh Wurm which would also be very nice in conjunction with Spectral Walk for jukes and getting out of sticky situations. Though the condi transfer on Dagger 4 is pretty nice… idk more testing to do in the morning! I already stayed up till 3 AM tonight xD

why double hydro and leech sigils?

Mainly so when I go into Shroud, Spiteful Spirit along with Leeching and Hydromancy just blows up any thief near me. Plus the leeching is decent for sustain.

Also pretty interesting build you got there. Crit chance is a bit too low for my tastes though. :o

OK well you are losing out on procs. As a Necro your Ds counts as a wep swap so there is no point for double hydro leeching. replace one hydro and one leeching and you will actually gain procs.

I suppose but it’s been working great so far. I’ll be trying out a different set of sigils per your suggestion to see how well it fares.

Also I do like the idea of that quickness build. I think I might give it a shot but swap out chilling victory for decimate defenses for a bit more crit chance.

In unranked, more or less every fun build can work. In ranked it’s harder to use the Gs because is so slow that if you don’t use CttB you can’t land a single hit in a team fight, the enemy team will focus you and take you down with CC and burst.
But in unranked you can use it and have fun. Not a high level weapon, but still viable to have some fun.
When gravedigger land it’s damage is really huge, the problem is that with the lack of immunity and block skills, if you’re in the middle of the team fight in a medium/high level ranked you will be CCed or die before you’re able to do any real good damage with it.

Made it plat using a gs. Chrono runes and wells allow me to hit using a gs. With the quickness along with a hydro and fire sigil and two other procs make for some hilarious kills.

Hahaha I actually slotted some Chrono runes myself for some cheesy antics but I didn’t think the Quickness was worth it xD I might give it a shot again though. I’m still toying with my build to see what works best. I’ve got several GS build variations including a Minion based one which works quite well in Conquest.

…and I’ve had some decent amount of success with it! Hits hard and is fantastic in zerg fights and group fights if you can avoid getting focused or kite really well. The ability to drop tons of really strong AOE makes it so you can really mess up players who are not paying attention while still having pretty good potential for dueling. I’ve been able to win several 2v1’s though just barely and even spike Thieves down that are attempting to assassinate me in group fights. Though Thieves and Mesmers are a tough matchup for this build.

Anyone else got any cool, effective, or somewhat usable GS builds they’d like to share or am I the only one trying to make Greatsword usable? xD

Nah that would just make shield stronger and give us even more reason not to run sword or axe offhand. I’d rather have some sort of minor trait in Retribution that has a chance to remove a condition when you strike an enemy every 10-15 seconds. Might even make base Revenant more attractive and potentially a bit more viable as running a Devastation, Retribution, Invocation set or Corruption, Retribution, Invocation set would give you just a bit more survivability by letting you remove 2 boons more often than always strapping Herald on. And, if you were to run Herald, you could choose to run Corruption or Devastation, and then Retribution to have some stability/condi removal and defense or Invocation and have stun break/condi removal and fury/extra damage. Furthermore you’d be able to run Retribution/Invocation/Herald and get the double condi clear plus lots of group support at the cost of losing a bit of damage. Aka, potential build diversity!

Rain.9213

I actually think Jalis is just a few slight buffs away from being competitively viable.

-Inspiring Reinforcement shouldn’t take so long to lay out all the bricks and start pulsing stability. Considering it’s a very awkwardly shaped and small aoe, it should be faster.
-Vengeful Hammers still need to be fixed to stop turning off on environment.
-Rite of the Great Dwarf should have the condition damage resistance baseline instead of being forced to slot the now lame Retribution line just to survive condies.

That’s IMO what could make Legendary Dwarf pretty usable in PVP as you would provide excellent group support and not just a ton of boons while still being able to run full damage traits to still be a big threat in group fights.

In addition, Retribution should have a hammer trait. Obviously Ret is separate from Jalis but they’re actually supposed to go together, the way hammer functions atm it benefits more from extra dodges and damage reduction than sword or staff does. Invocation doesn’t work as well and so what else are you supposed to use with a hammer build?

Yeah that would be pretty awesome! Having Retribution grant you stability and something else for successfully evading while wielding a hammer would be pretty nice.

Raiding as of now

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Rain.9213

Raids are limited by the combat in GW2 itself. It doesn’t have the depth GW1 did.

Some classes easily fart all the necessary boons for the group with little effort required instead of requiring frequent, smart use of combo fields and multiple people to stack 25 might and keep permanent fury up.

Same goes for debuffs, when one class can keep vulnerability maxed, another class can cover boons, all you worry about after is stacking the highest DPS class.

DPS balance in this game is atrocious as well, so only a few classes get to function as damage dealers while other classes are stuck in support boon bot builds.

It also doesn’t help Anet doesn’t want to make up its mind. They didn’t want a dedicated healer, until they wasted Ranger’s elite spec on being specifically a healer, and then when it became a dominant healer because it is an elite spec entirely centered around healing with no good competitively offensive options, Anet nerfed druid some more so they would have to pigeonhole themselves even more into healing gear to compensate.

They made chronomancer a purely support build since mesmer DPS is trash, and then they nerf the support contributions without compensating the mesmer in personal DPS.

Nerf revenant damage under the excuse that they offered plenty of group support, then proceed to nerf that group support as well while leaving DPS the same.

Necromancer for once achieves some relevance in its only good build, the condi build that requires a lot of gimmicks to merit bringing over yet another elementalist or thief, and they go and nerf condimancer so it can go sit in the corner of mediocrity alongside its pathetic power greatsword builds.

This is sadly too accurate….

Rain.9213

Yeah it’s fantastic on Herald! Marauders is definitely way too squishy for my tastes to justify losing out all the ferocity and power of a Berserker so Valkyrie was the perfect middle ground. The one thing I did change though was running Assassin’s Presence in Devastation instead of the might building trait. I think with the fact that I can keep almost permanent fury with this build, I actually benefit from stacking more ferocity plus I think I MAY be able to substitute Sigil of Intelligence on one or both of the weapons but now I’m just tweaking it to suit my tastes. The build is absolutely solid as it is.

Loses extra boonshare potential at the sake of better damage.

It’s potent. I’ve really made dents with this build.

I just came in here to point out how freaking good this build is. I’ve been running a Berserker Rev build for the longest time and while I did pretty well, I’d get destroyed by a well played Necro or Condi Mes.

Rain.9213

Offhand Dagger is definitely in a god awful spot. I’ve been running it lately as I decided to use it in PVE to fit my Assassin theme more and therefore ended up running it in PvP/WvW. While you CAN beat people SOMETIMES, it’s a huuuuge uphill battle and requires such careful play that you can easily get rekt if you make one mistake. Obviously, running such a risky set is detrimental especially when D/P does it much better and with less risk to the player….

The stealth attack nerf did hit D/D way harder than it hit D/P. I keep saying this but they should really make offhand dagger have a blind on cloak and dagger… at this point in the game, there’s no reason for it not to. D/P can blind way more, stay in stealth way more, and outdamage any set running offhand dagger, having blind on cloak and dagger wouldn’t even bring the offhand dagger on par with D/P but it would help a LOT. Landing CnD is a pain in the kitten in the current meta. We need to actually be rewarded for it instead of simply getting rekt in stealth right after landing it.

Agreed. Jalis is so close to being a great alternative for Glint. If only the group support aspects of it were actually usable in a group fight. The problem is RotGD gets interrupted so easily with all the massive amounts of aoe cc in the game and as I said, Inspiring Reinforcement it’s practically worthless as the stability aoe is so small and takes so long to take effect. Right now you pretty much just have the hammers on Jalis on auto at the moment because that’s the best thing you can do.

-Losing a 480-500 match because our teammate went to go 2v1 a downed body.

-Losing a match with a 100 point lead because teammates decided to go kill beasts allowing enemy thief to steal them and enemy team to decap points…. this one really hurt as I was about to finally hit Sapphire.

-Getting stuck with bad necro and dragonhunter bandwagoneers who could not win a single 1v1 therefore constantly losing held points while playing on Legacy.

Those are just off the top of my head. Been unable to hit Sapphire for the 3rd day in a row as I keep getting these kinds of people all while pretty consistently being in the top 2 scores. It hurts guys.

Inspiring Reinforcement 3 second cast time

in Revenant

Posted by: Rain.9213

Rain.9213

Well, not exactly a cast time but it takes a whole 3 seconds from the time that you cast the skill to the time the bricks stop landing and the skill actually starts pulsing stability.

That is horrible especially now that stability on dodge has been nerfed. Half the time, I drop it anticipating cc but it takes so long for it to finally start doing something that I get cc’d anyway. It practically negates the point of using it at all especially with that high energy cost and small aoe rectangle. While not completely useless as it can help you finish a downed body 1v1, it almost does nothing in a group fight because:
1) It takes so long for the effects to activate
2)Theres so much cc in the game that the slow pulsing stability is almost worthless.
3)Often the skill takes so long that by the time I can safely start the stomp animation, the body already ported with the super Druid life saving cheese skill.

Come on. Have that stability start pulsing out immediately as the first bricks land or something because the skill is very unreliable as are many other Revenant skills

To add to your theory, I do remember Anet actually being legitimately annoyed at S/D Thieves when they were running around in PVP meta last year.

Given the stealth harder to accomplish on s/d via CND than it is with d/p that stealth attack needs a bit more oomph. it need not be more outright damage but perhaps something like combining the blind and daze on hit rather than the two separate effects , this hit not needing to be from behind.

With the number three return to two boon rips. There way more boons in game and necro recently got yet more boon corruption. I see no reason 2 boon rips would be OP.

the dancing dagger/Cnd stuff already spoken to with all of the x/d threads but if this ever did happen it might push s/d up too high> I do not think s/d hopelessly broken. I think it needs nudges in the right direction.

Exactly what I’m saying. S/D doesn’t have to become top meta with top damage but as long as we can stay in the fight better and punish the enemy more for fighting us in some way, this case stealing their might/stability/protection more reliably while also punishing enemies for letting us land CnD on them in some way besides a weak stealth attack and some vulnerability, I think S/D will become much better. But right now, it’s just underperforming in comparison to Staff or D/P.

I’m talking specifically about S/D in pvp terms. S/D in WvW is fine for dueling and 1v1 ganking. What I’m saying for pvp though is that it offers nothing better than what Staff does. Aside from ripping 1 boon at a time which barely does anything or giving you an Immob which also doesn’t do much because S/D lacks damage pressure and you will likely take more damage after Infiltrators Strike than giving.

Also, Silverbolt, I’ve been maining S/D Thief since 3 months after launch of GW2. One gap closer that requires a target isn’t better mobility than a spammable leap that deals high damage and is also an evade and Flanking Strike is not as nearly as reliable as Staff 3 which removes Immob and acts just like a regular dodge. Lastly, Stealth is practically useless in the current meta on an S/D Thief as all it does is offer you a daze/blind that while is okay requires you to land a cloak and dagger which does nothing aside from make you invisible while you’re dying to enemy cleave.

I’m not gonna lie, this made me giggle quite a lot.

What are you closing gap on? Air? No? A target? Yes? Then you have a target to close gap on.

You obviously missed the point my response was making, considering you’re talking about Vault.

It also makes me uncomfortable to think that someone could be playing S/D since 3 months into the game, and still be unable to use the set properly in 2016.

S/D has other problems, but the ones you’re trying to argue for are not them.

I said one gap closer that requires a target isn’t better mobility than a spammable leap. I think you missed my point.

I can use the set just fine in 1v1’s and WvW Roaming. I never said it was unusable. What I’m saying is that it is not viable in pvp when staff is basically the same concept but much better. What I’m saying is that S/D offers nothing better or different than what Staff does aside from a weak boon rip, a near useless stealth, and an Immob.

Sure you can argue it has more survivability because it lets you run away in conquest easier by porting back and getting distance but congrats, you are now contributing nothing to your team while the enemy caps a point or wrecks your team.

Sword/Dagger still severely lacking

Why does Staff have a fantastic gap closer, amazing damage, and really good survivability yet Sword/Dagger is literally just a worse version of it?

It absolutely perplexes me that Sword/Dagger still only rips 1 boon, Cloak and dagger still has no blind on hit in this AOE heavy game where 90% of enemy players will hit you unintentionally with an attack that wasnt even intended for you, and Infiltrators return still has cast time.

With things like Dragonhunters and their instant win traps on Thieves, Scrappers with their multiple reveals, cc’s, aoes, and invulns that can easily outsustain and outdamage thieves, and Revenants that can 2 shot a thief with Precision Strike and Unrelenting Assault, I just don’t understand why a subpar set like Sword/Dagger hasn’t been worked on well enough. Hell, even just blind on cloak and dagger would help a LOT. As for Infiltrator’s Return, I’m not saying it become instant cast while you’re cc’d. I think it’s fine that it doesn’t act as a stunbreak but there’s little reason to use it when you have a condition because by the time you finish casting it while hoping you’re not cc’d, those conditions already melted half your face off.

Anyway, just posting this to hopefully get more attention put on improving S/D because while it is usable, it get’s hard countered so easily by half of the classes out there.

Meta-ish build 4 you

Seems pretty nice. I like the idea and Staff is definitely designed to be more of a brawler weapon similar to a Warrior so on paper, I think the build is solid. I might give it a shot later and see how it plays.

OMG I love this class

Been maining Revenant since Xpac came out and it was crazy OP at first. It feels a lot more balanced now to be honest. I think the nerf to Retribution stability was stupid as it was more of a nerf to base Revenant than Herald but aside from that, the damage is still really nice and we still got pretty good sustain. If anything, I think Shield shouldn’t have been nerfed and only the trait changed to something different. I do think Condi reapers are a bit too strong right now though and that’s why most Revenants are having a tough time. I know I am but I can still beat condi reapers 1v1 pretty consistently. It is an uphill fight however.

The biggest issue for me are the kittened bugs. UA still doesn’t work as intended a lot of the times. I casted it on a Reaper that was literally less than 200 range from me and it didn’t go off, allowing the reaper to condi bomb me to hell. That isn’t the first time it’s happened either. Then it also tends to glitch out next to walls STILL.
Riposting Shadows lets enemies hit you while you’re still in the rolling animation which is dumb.
Then of course the buggy kitten Auto Attack on Sword. The list goes on though. Revenant is plagued with bugs.

I would figure it would be good with S/D too though as you get a daze on stealth. Guess I have to respec… again… unless this is unintended, in which case, lemme explode some hearts without committing suicide ANET!

So dumb. What’s the point of giving something like that to a class whose main defense is stealth? If I cloak and dagger steal into someone and interrupt them, I can now say bye bye to my stealth :/
