A Selfish Request from a Roleplayer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

That is rather selfish, but many of the players are as well when it comes to overall game. Anyhow, what you’re asking is impossible. Not only the engine doesn’t support it, ArenaNet isn’t interested as well.

People need to get it straight that roleplaying is something that is pretty much at the bottom of ArenaNet’s “worry” list. They even added a tab on the LFG, but no one uses it except for foreigners(barely) and trolls.

One of the big reasons why I used to stick around GW2 was because of the roleplaying community. That turned out to be a mistake. I mean, why are you even asking for these things? They can barely introduce new animations at all! And when they do touch the animations, it’s to either remove them or alter them. The new emotes were also lazily done; they’re altered versions of old emotes and even the “talk” emote shows great issues when regarding the human’s neck and spine. Employees of Anet even admited they cannot control the old code, so some of the animations we’ve seen some NPCs doing will never be usable by the players. I also have to add that roleplayers tend to not bring much for the game besides spam the chat. Although the best thing they do is to purchase gems in order to buy cosmetics.

The community itself is considered bad. On both sides, NA and EU share different issues, but they’re issues nonetheless. I am just going to be blunt and talk about what concerns me the most. There is a lot more to it, though.

The american side is silly. The people are oblivious. Quantity over quality. People fully disrespect the lore and show hostility towards those who are not so viable with the english language, even though some of them can barely form a correct sentence. Most of these plots don’t make any sense whatsoever and it’s cliché all around. It can actually make you cringe.

The european side is dying(last time I was around)… and I hope it stays that way- Hopefully this blight will just poof away permanently. It is full of drama. Drama is everywhere and you can’t really avoid it, no matter how hard you try. It’s like a mexican soap opera. People just seem to love dragging each other down… and boy do they drag this to forums and even other social media. It’s just ridiculous. I have witnessed countless events of over-the-top melodramatic nonsense in-game, on forums and even on Skype and other similar programs.

The main issue of most of the roleplayers is that they take “roleplay” as the meaning of their life. It gets to the point where it’s just sad. Just the same way other people just seemingly dedicate far too much time on playing the game itself and drain their own wallets into virtual currency. They will just bash against you if do anything that they dislike, and I promise, these people will try to make you look bad in the eyes of others. GW2 is a video-game, therefore meant for entertainment and for its social value. People do like to ignore that. Stop taking it too seriously. There is no need whatsoever to act as your character 24/7. As you can clearly see too many people do not take this game seriously, which is the case of normies. You’re just putting yourself in a place where you’ll be an outcast and seen as a freak.

I had one year of stories within my characters. 90% of those stories had to be thrown away into a trash can because the people I played with decided to bail on me. So here’s another point, it is a waste of time. You’re not developing anything interesting, you’re just wasting away effort…

My words may come out as cruel, but I’m just telling what I truly believe in and experienced. I honestly wish I had never dwelt myself into this obnoxious little community…. and that things had turned out better.

What happened?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

RandomWolf.3986

I understand that the title of this topic is rather vague, but I feel like I should just let it all out. It has to come to my attention that Guild Wars 2, in terms of community, has changed. This is entirely my opinion. I do not mean any offense to anyone and it is not meant to be taken as a solid resolution regarding the overall game. It really just me ranting.

When I first joined this game back at late August of 2015, I deemed that the Guild Wars 2 community was one of the best when it came to MMORPGs. I felt welcomed. The people were nice, creative and helpful. I truly enjoyed it. I even liked the PvP, which will is well-known for its sourness, but I didn’t see it as bad as before. Eventually I got myself into the Roleplaying community as well on the European servers. It was quite lovely and rather big if I might say.

But after a whole year of playing this game, I started to notice on a few things… I noticed that the people weren’t being as nice and helpful as they once were. I saw people leaving.. and I ended up feeling rather lonely. I couldn’t find a guild where I could fit in. All my online friends grew different tastes and decided to approach me and the overall roleplaying community died; it sank itself into a vast pit of drama that I managed to avoid thankfully. I also started to notice a rather unnatural amount of “normies”. Normies are those type of players who overdo themselves with legendaries, overused or skimpy looks that reveal a poor choice of dyes, some with scarfs, rather silly names and an abundance of annoying wings— I was no longer seeing that originality that I once experienced. Also the number of bad encounters in raids, dungeons and even events got gradually worse.

Also, throughout that year I decided to get creative. I do not know how to draw and my writing isn’t magnificent, but I do possess some good editing skills. And seeing that some videos about this game were well-known and appreciated I decided to do a few by myself, which are not bad at all. I attempted to share them with the community, but it kind of.. backfired? It was completely overlooked and even hated and I attempted to share it on most related-sites that I knew.

And back to what I mentioned earlier, about me being lonely. I was still into the game, but I took the foolish decision of wanting to try to craft a legendary. It was going well at first but it didn’t take long until I found myself in a grind-like routine and that contributed to me losing interest in the game. I have experienced most of it could offer and I no longer see a reason to stick around. I may pop here and now when new episodes come to the surface.. but besides that… there really is nothing. And I find this rather.. saddening, considering just how much I had enjoyed this game. More than any MMO I’ve had in the past. I just don’t know what went wrong really.

I’m also going to assume that this thread is going to be ignored or maybe even deleted? Who knows, really. I just needed to get this off my “chest”.

Edit: I forgot to mention something. I technically gave up in early December, but I have logged in here and there to check on things.. but is it just me or is the population decreasing? I have found myself in an empty Divinity’s Reach quite often and I’m part of one of the biggest European servers, which should place me on a populated shard, right?

RandomWolf.3986

From out of all classes, the one I know less about is the revenant. I have two, a Herald and a Revenant. For the sake of variety and replay value, I made two characters of each class: one with elite spec and one without. I enjoyed the results so far.

So for this revenant I’m focusing on the Legendary Centaur and Legendary Demon stance, which means ‘healing and conditions’, according to the wiki and the skills themselves. That means I’m going to use the following traitlines: CORRUPTION and SALVATION. But I don’t know which line I should use for the third one. Should I go for damage, mobility or defense? I was planning to use Invocation since my Herald did not use this one.

The weapons that my revenant is going to use are a mace/axe and a staff. I don’t know which stats I should go for. I tried some combinations in the PvP lobby, but I’m still clueless. I asked a few people around and most of them followed the meta or just made up some random build. I have a friend who’s great at coming up with builds, but he has no idea how to manage with a revenant. This character is already 80 and I’m just lost.. I was hoping any of you could help me out. I’m really lost.

'Human Female Idles' still missing..

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: RandomWolf.3986

RandomWolf.3986

As some of you may already know, the human females had several idle animations. You know, when your character stands around for a bit, he/she will reveal several animations. For example, an asura will cross its arms or scratch its hair; a male norn will relax his muscles; charr will look around and stretch its claws; female sylvari will move her body happily while glaring and so on.

Well, human females had more than just one idle. They would stretch their arms then rest their hands on their hips, looking and kick the dirt and so on. It gave more character, even though the stretching caused some clipping in the past. The thing is, back when Living World 2 was around, some people complained about how these animations broke the game’s immersion; even though Kas and Marjory have their own animations during that SCENE regarding Belinda…

So what if your character is kicking the dirt while that happens? I mean, the sylvari look naïve and happy, why not remove those too? What about the norn then? Flipping the hair or worry more about the muscles.. that’s wrong too. No one reacts like that to that sort of thing. And.. ‘breaking immersion’? We’re talking about a game where people can shoot tigers and unicorns out of their bows, wear the flashiest armors and make their characters look like Disco Stu.

The worst about this all of this is how the Staff handled this ‘issue’. It was claimed that this removal was a bug. That a fix would be seen soon. It didn’t happen’. Then it was said that it was a temporary thing.. then that it was against the immersion… and then that something would eventually be done about it. Then, nothing. We were all kept in the dark. No updates, nothing. The thread that discussed this issue was locked down to keep the people from discussing it. That is not fair.

Many people liked these animations and want it back. There’s so many ways it can be re-introduced. But why the mystery? Can’t they just spell it out for us? We deserve an answer.. I have been ‘fighting’ for this ever since I discovered it. For over a year now, and it’s just frustrating to know that nothing is being done regarding this matter. I even sent tickets and the people kittenponded had no clue what they could do. Money and time went spent on these animations. Many people are tired of seeing human females(and there are A LOT of them in-game) repeat the same animation over and over and over… now that is breaking the so called ‘immersion’. People can use tonics and minis in said cutscenes.. and does it matter now? All of the cutscenes that are now used are pre-rendered. We won’t be even seeing out characters in them anymore.

I know that Anet does listens to the fans. Added a ‘roleplay’ LFG, new emotes, polls, fixes… I mean, they even fixed that old sylvari glow glitch and brought back the old fireballs due to fans’ demand. And many people demanded these animations back.. why is it so hard to enable them again? It’s not like they have to be done again from scratch..

All that I’m asking, in the end, is an answer. This here was the most active thread in the forum about this issue, and the latest Staff post was a long, long time ago..

Tl;dr: Human females had several idle animations that were removed two years ago. It was stated as a bug and a fix was ‘promised’. No news since then.

(I want to apologize for possible grammar errors. English is not my native language.)

I thought it was related to that ‘harvest’ achievment that gives you the glitched’ bloodstone head piece, but a friend of mine tried my account(which doesn’t have that achievment completed) and actually managed to catch Slendy a few times.

Sylvari's age... Is it wrong?

in Lore

Posted by: RandomWolf.3986

RandomWolf.3986

When we first start playing as a sylvari, the initial cutscenes tells us that the sylvari have been born ‘25 years ago’. Guild Wars 2 starts in the year 1325, so we assume that the sylvari came to be in 1300. Isn’t this wrong?

The wikia, other sites and the official novels state that the sylvari were born in 1302! “The first sylvari sprouted from the Pale Tree in Arbor Bay, emerging in 1302 AE.” As you can see on the wikia’s page: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sylvari

Most of us believe that a firstborn, such as a Caithe, is currently 28 years old when in fact she’s only 26. How did such mistake go past by Arenanet? Or am I missing something important here?

More cultural armors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RandomWolf.3986

RandomWolf.3986

One of my favorite armor sets from the game are the cultural armors. There are races that win more from the regular sets while others, in this case the sylvari, don’t look that well at all… The game pretty much tells us that a large number of sylvari grow their own clothes and base their outfits on the nature surrounding them. Few are the ones who actually wear normal clothes except for a few farmers, adventurers and members of the Pact. The town clothes once offered a major varitety but these are long gone now..

Maybe there could be a new tier? Tier 4? It could share the same price of the previous tier or just slightly more expensive. I’m sure people would love it! I know I would, especially for the sylvari. It has been hard for me to get a good look using armor pieces that are not cultural..

Me and a group of friends decided to queue as all rangers. We all had different builds and playstyles so we thought it’d be fun to try our team out. We soon had regrets of our decision..

So for two games we fought against the same team. 5 members with the same type of name, same class, same look and behaviour – a zerg. They were perfetly well-coordinated and wiped us out in a few seconds; we stood no chance.. they also acted cold and mean towards us. Only one of them seemed more active than the others, using his finisher move while the rest would spread out around, reaching a point as fast as possible. My team wasn’t even capable of capturing a point! Then they showed up in the Mists, dancing in line..

I’m not sure if they were bots, even though I highly suspect they were, or trolls.. regardless, they deserve to be reported. This is an incredible way to ruin a game for someone. I don’t want other people to come across those people again.

RandomWolf.3986

While exploring a bit of the wiki, I decided to check on the sylvari page and came across some outdated information, especially below the ‘Trivia’. It states that the original glow of Trahearne is orange and of Scarlet is red. This is not correct.

I have done my research. I’ve exchanged tickets, discussed it on forums and with other players. By looking at several playthroughs I can confirm that the original and correct glow of Scarlet Briar is of a YELLOW type of colour.

And regarding Trahearne’s glow. Well, ever since Living World Season 2, the sylvari have suffered some kind of ‘glitch’. Every single sylvari NPC reveal only colour when it comes to their glow: orange. We all know that Caithe’s glow is white, but she glows orange nonetheless in-game. By playing all sorts of sylvari Personal Story it has come to my attention that the correct and original glow of the characters are revealed during the cinematics. Wiki states that all NPCs would glow white during these cinematics and I’ve seen one glowing purple. So, yes. The cinematics do reveal the correct colour, meaning that Trahearne’s glow is indeed white.

I just find it amazing to believe that not many people have noticed that EVERY SINGLE sylvari has an orange glow. All of them, no exceptions.

I’ve done the fixings by myself, but someone keeps replacing them. I’m not expert in english, but if you wish to support me on this, please visit the page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sylvari

UPDATED: After spending up to two hours watching old playthroughs, it appears that every single NPC glows white during the cinematics. I am unable to know if they do glow different colours while in-game. I guess I was wrong. My apologies for all the incovenient issues I might have caused. For all I know the orange glow glitch might have been in-game since launch, being Caithe the only NPC who showed a different glow. I don’t know anything anymore.

Hey.

As some of you may know, human females once had several animations, which are a big thing considering just how long we leave our character stranding around.

Some people complained and the animations were removed. A much larger number of people asked for its return. Anet considered its removal a bug but then admited that it was only temporarily. Nearly 2 years later.. and nothing. No updates, no Staff comeback, nada!

Now the asura got their facial expressions an update and humans cab finally look where the mouse moves. They also got their arm fixed, but still no old idles.

Now I’m just gonna leave this post that was said by someone who sure as hell is right:

“Hamfast.8719:
The “official” reason for removal of the female human idle animations was that some players complained they were “immersion breaking” during some cut scenes (especially certain NPC death scenes, when the mood was supposed to be sad).
Death scenes represent only a tiny fraction of cut scenes. Cut scenes represent only a tiny fraction of our online play. So why completely remove these animations from the entire game when it only affects a minuscule portion of it? This response was entirely out of proportion to the perceived problem.
And what about my feelings of immersion? I am usually bored to tears when the cut scene soap opera is playing. My female human was perfectly expressing my feelings whenever she stretched or shuffled the dirt at her feet.
And what about the other races? The Asura crack their knuckles and scratch their heads. Norn males stretch and smack their fist into their palm. Charr flex their claws. My female Sylvari waves her arms about and gives a great big grin. Do these animations have any place in those rarely-seen death scenes?
Please restore these animations to the game! I guarantee that more people miss them than cried about seeing them in cut scenes. Fix them whenever you have the time, if you think it’s such a big issue. But please restore them to us in the meantime.”

I’ve been playing this game for a while now and I’m growing tired of listening to the same ‘Battle’ soundtracks over and over.. and since I had managed to change the ‘MainMenu’ just fine, I decided to collect some of my favorite battle themes and give it a shot the same way I did with ‘MainMenu’.

It didn’t work. I don’t understand why. I did everything right. I gathered 59 mp3 tracks. Added all of them into the M3U Creator and then saved it on the Music Folder in GW2. I tried to change it to ‘MainMenu’ and it didn’t work at all.

Files don’t have ’ nor #. They don’t even have their album, artist and date of production like some music files.

What am I doing wrong?

Personal Story Glitched

This glitch doesn’t allow me to continue with the game’s story.

I get inside of the instance, and then, when I click on the NPC, the tab where the dialogue choices should appear, they don’t.

Character stuck at loading screen!

My character gets stuck at loading screens now, especially the ones related to the Iron Legion Level 10 Personal Story.

I deleted the local.dat file but once I tried to get back at the instance, it got glitched again. The ‘REPAIR’ option of the client always freezes whenever I try it.

When the game worked again, I clicked ‘F’ to interact with the NPC. The ‘dialogue’ tab where you pick up the choices doesn’t appear. My character is level 12.

This new issue is just great.. it’s not bad enough having the ‘FPS and high ping’ issue occasionally and some rather long loading screens, but now I can’t even login at some of my characters?!

As you can see on the ss above, it stucks at 0% andsometimes at 100% for a great share amount of time. The limit was 300 seconds until I closed down the game.

Update: After a few major tried, the character is back at being playable, but I’m afraid that the Personal Story mission cannot be progressed thanks to a new bug.

What's with these gem rates?...

Ever since the Chaos Gloves showed up on the Gem Store the Gem Exchange Rate have never been this high!

The average, ever since I joined the game back at September of 2015, has been around 160 gold for 800 gems.. and even with that rate I had trouble saving up. Now it went straight up 200 and it’s been a nightmare to get that many as I have a busy real life. Even when I manage to get online, I usually just stay to chat with a few friends as I afk a lot or just do the dailies.

Not many people seem to worry about this, which I find it odd. People say that once the rates go high, the chances of it returnign back to what was considered “normal” are slim. Others say that the game’s economy is crumbling, such is the fate of a MMO and that the future of GW2 is dark. I’ve seen other MMOs where things like this happened.. and look at them now. They’re dead as they can be.

I don’t even recall it being this high during the March sales. What’s happening on the Store that it’s making so many people buy gems? The Chaos Gloves’ hype is gone. People aren’t getting it like swarms. Even when there’s no sales happening, it’s still an expensive number.

New area? Let me guess? The textures will be as bad as the ones in HoT and the perfomance will drop drastically like it did on the new maps?..
