Will we be able to go into Crystal Oasis and ride the mounts again this upcoming preview weekend?
No, but apparently later by the end of the month:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/coming-up-elite-specializations-week/
I don’t think that is another playable preview, more a specific blog post/video/stream about them
From the FAQ
Q: Will there be a beta test or early access?A: We will hold two preview weekend experiences, during which every player with a Guild Wars 2 account in good standing can jump in and play selected expansion content. In the first preview weekend, running August 11-13, players will get a taste of the first open-world map of the expansion and the raptor mount. In the second preview weekend, running August 18-20, players can create demo characters and play in Player vs. Player or World vs. World with the nine new elite specializations. If you don’t have a Guild Wars 2 account, you can register here to play the preview weekend event and the core Guild Wars 2 game for free! Please keep checking http://guildwars2.com/path-of-fire for more information as it becomes available.
so we’re restricted to WvW and PvP to try out the new elite specs? tha’s a real bummer =/ why not PvE?
Likely by keeping everyone in the competitve modes, they can monitor any balance issues more accurately. Open world doesn’t really give that opportunity
Path of Fire can encapsulate any part of the expansion. As I understood it, this is just a preview of the Elites via the pvp/wvw modes only.
I imagine they are doing this for a reason, possibly so they can work on the feedback for the open world whilst testing the elites in a competitive environment where it will have more impact than in the open world.

I’m told the views on the GW2 Discord are very different to the forum views on the elites. Might be worth a peruse if you have discord, since it might be more positive.
I’m excited for a couple of them for sure, although probably there are less options to suit my playstyle than HoT had, but I that might mean I am more pleasantly surprised when I unlock each one.
Inventory expansion potentially costs nothing, you can do it with gold in game via gem conversion. To be honest, unless you are a compulsive hoarder like me, it’s a non-issue. You can easily get by without buying any extra space at all. I reckon 90% of what is in my bank with nearly maxed out tabs is never used by me.
Material storage is more useful though. Not essential, but def a QoL upgrade.
There is nothing you need to buy beyond Story episodes which I would say are worth spending money on even though you can use gold-gems.

Ultimately it is these things that prevent a bigger influx of players joining these higher end instances than there could be and leads to them stagnating due to low population.
Sadly it wont change, the only answer is to join a like minded guild or to encourage as many people to start their own groups and ensure those groups dont use these ridiculous meters and build checkers.
It could be something they add in for next weekend when the PoF elites are active. Seems a valid feedback
Are they not PoF specific hero points then? ie core + PoF rather than core, +HoT + PoF
To join the Path of Fire Preview, log in (or log out if you currently are in the game) and create a new demo character!
I have to say, you’ve made access incredibly easy and waaay too tempting lol
No…I will be good…
Significant drop in FPS… I was afraid of that.
Is that a number of people thing do you think or the upped specs?
I’ve promised myself not to spoil myself on the beta this time. Looking forward to it all being new in a few weeks.
Hope everyone else enjoys it!
Much like when new colours and mentoring was introduced, after the novelty wears off, most players will use it as intended and the few who use it as decoration won’t be interfering with others
It’ll sort itself out
It would be a real shame not to go via Ebonhawke. That guarded gate is begging for this use since inception
They said ls4 would continue the legendaries
They are specifically designed to be a single option to create a unique flavour rather than mix and match and widen the customisation. I would be very surprised this ever changed.
If it did change, expect a radical overhaul or rebalancing of some of the elites and skills to make it work and not be overpowered.
I doubt we will see the Koss we knew, but I think it would be both awesome and horrifying if we saw Koss, Dunkoro, Melonni, Acolyte Jin, Acolyte Sousuke, Tahlkora, Zhed Shadowhoof, Margrid, Master of Whispers, Goren, Norgu, and General Morgahn risen as awakened in the service of Palawa Joko.
Ouch!
With new elites due, this becomes ever more impirtant as well
Aurene mount would be a complete immersion breaker. Since other players are all other adventurers, having them all run around on a unique NPC, one of which appears vital to the future (and who’s life shouldn’t be considered frivolous enough to be a meat shield for us) would show utter disregard.
As for Kralk, well I don’t think it’s a case of him not being made out as an equal villain. He;s just not the focal villain. That’s very different at this stage.
Some thing are better when saved for a big moment. Elder Dragons are one of them.
The Crystal Desert and Elona will have 3 major villains in Balthazar, Palawa Joko and Kralkatorrik. Clearly Balthazar will play the most significant role since he is the reason we are going there and is the most immediate threat, but the other two will feature prominently as well. Hopefully the story will really fill out with so much there for the writers to draw from and not skip through quickly like HoT did.
nope,
i do not
It’s all in the EULA
Well, I’m pretty certain he’s dead. However, I would hope to see something in honour of him somewhere untouched by Palawa Joko in Elona.
This is the very reason they should never expand on it, ever. The attraction is in its mystery – for nearly 10 years players have looked up and speculated and wondered and thought up their own stories. That is something fantasy world builders revel in and nothing they could do would likely live up to the expectations at this point.
I for one enjoy reading people speculate about it and create their own stories about it. I would hate to have that mystery and wonder taken away.
I thought this was how it now worked. I noticed every time I used Primal Burst, it would increase the tier of adrenal health?
I think it is an excellent system. HoT used it really well, LS3 did not – it mostly just shoved things into the masteries line for the sake of it and some didn’t sync with the map they were exclusive to (Sirens…).
Looking forward to PoF masteries, although it is a bit of a shame it is only mounts and not a wider range of things.
Not only did she kill you, the attack was severe enough to trigger a new build.
Every time a new patch hits, a cat has killed a player somewhere in the World…
I hated it more than ember bay. I was swearing and cursing like a mad man, unable to get beyond the first half a dozen platforms
Right up until the point I discovered I was on the wrong side of the island and in fact not on the jp at all, I was just clambering up random terrain which looked like it might be the start….
Whoops!!
In the end I found the right place and apart from a couple of tricky moments, it was generally not so bad at all. Def would rather see things like this than Chalice of Tears..
Weaver mostly to try and find a better comfort zone for my ele.
Deadeye just because I like the idea.
The others don’t interest me or are on professions I don’t use enough. I might look at Spellbreaker, but my core Warrior and my Berserker are in a good enough place.
Isn’t the first spot on the map at the end of the original Branded line where Glint’s Lair is though?
So how does a preview weekend work? Do I take in my level 80 main, or do I need to create a new character, or is some sort of “preview-only character slot” provided?
If existing characters go in, how does loot and consumables work? Loot gets removed when exiting, gold gets reset, consumables return to whatever quantity they were at?
It’s normally done either on a separate “beta” client and you create a new character which goes straight in at max level with some on level gear to get you going or you create new said character from a special slot on your normal client and go in from there. At the end of the preview, everything gets deleted (or possibly carried over to the next preview weekend).
Contact support via a ticket. Just bear in mind potential response times could be slightly longer than usual
I would adjust your idea slightly to better fit as Guild Adventures.
Now that the World Map has been significantly enlarged over where Elona is, we can see a path of Branded leading further to the SE with another massive patch similar to where Kralkatorrik crashed in Destiny’s Edge.
Can anyone identify what that new patch covers in terms of the corresponding geography from GW1? Is it Vabbi?
Yesterday had a massive outage which meant the game off line for a large portion of the playerbase. There are still issues it seems, of which players have varying degrees of success, including constantly retrying (worked for me) and flushing the dns cache or something (there’s instructions in a different thread).
You could opt to contact Support, but there are reports of delays due to so much going on right now.
This is a test for gliding – it isn’t permanently implemented yet. If it turns out to be a disaster or just didn’t work well for the current borderlands, they said they would remove it.
When did you preorder? It states when you purchase it can take up to 72 hours to arrive as they do additional fraud prevention checks (necessary sadly). Mine took 3 days.
CS are pretty accomodating for just missed sale deadlines. Send them a nice ticket and be patient while they resolve the ongoing issues and I’m sure you’ll get a result.
Several attempts later and in.
It’s widespread after yesterdays outage. Lots of people can’t get in and reporting it on twitter
No we can’t get into expansion maps. But, expect patches to pre-load bits and pieces between now and launch. For example I’m being told the world map has altered to take into account the enlarged geography from PoF.
Also, the servers have been down for a significant population of the game due to a data centre failure. This may or may not affect things.
Keep an eye on their twitter for further info since the forums/homepage have had problems as well today.
I believe it is affecting GW1 as well, although it appears things are starting to come back up slowly.
Since the outages have affected the forums and the website, I’d keep an eye on Twitter where outages have not affected their ability to communicate the issue.
This is likely related to the massive data centre outage which has kept things offline in EU and some of NA for most of the day. I would wait until this is fully fixed before going through the process (it’s doing it for me as well)
It’s just one of the wraiths – I think you can find them in the Grenth area.
It wasn’t actually anyone in particular, just a wraith as far as I could tell. I think players assumed that because it was in the trailer, it was someone of consequence.
I have to level my guild to 4 to get unlock the pve missions.
Seriously Anet really buggered small guilds with HoT
1 person is going to struggle to get anywhere really. With 3 contributors in my small guild, it took 1.5 years to reach level 40. Anet have always been on record saying Guilds in GW2 are for large groups and Guild content is designed as such.
I don’t disagree it is a shame, but I can also see where they are coming from. It would be impossible to make a fair system that catered for both single person guilds and 200 person guilds.

Guild Treks are your easiest way since you can just use a guide to find the locations.
Guild races and Guild Bounties are doable too, but you rely on other Guilds doing them at the same time (which you can scout beforehand on Races)
Creating a guild should give you 1 of each difficulty. Realistically easy is your only way forward, although it might be possible to do medium on race or trek

I don’t think HoT was (you could upgrade to deluxe, but not buy the actual expansion) so I wouldn’t expect PoF to be based on that
I’m not sure I’m making the connection here. Legendary weapons, which are limited in extra content, are being finished off in the New Year. Before then, we have an entire expansion of content and things to do, interspersed with 2 festivals.
Surely staggering them is better, especially if there is no word if there will ever be a 3rd generation of them?
Forgive me somewhat, but I’m failing to understand what the issue is and how it portains to the first 2 years of the game.
It’s a massive undertaking. It could never be re-released as it was due to the open world format and due to the way the game is coded + resources being put into future content- it would take months to make S1 into the format of S2 and S3. You have to remember, S1 was mostly events and festivals and big open world zergs, so some of the stuff needs rebuilding, if not all of it (since code has since piled on top of it all)
The devs have addressed it as something they’d love to do and we all recognise it as a ridiculous hole in the story that needs better filling than the cutscene we have, but this not a quick or easy piece of work sadly.
No, just log in, download any content that hasn’t already been downloaded previously, and play. =)
Just like any other patch/Release.
Oh okay. The reason I asked is that when I bought Heart Of Thorns the content opened up on its own after purchase. I didn’t have to download anything.
Largely explained above anyway, but to reiterate, even if you don’t own the expansions, you still have to patch the expansions into the client, regardless as to whether you can access them or not. So you did download them at some point.
It’ll be interesting to see if they launch the expansion at midnight like HoT this time though.
I think they should at the very least provide a full price bundle of the seasons on the shop page just to show players it is something that is available. I know it risks over complicating the bundles, but having it as a tickable option for x amount would hopefully encourage more players to get it and catch up.
(Obviously if they do this already, ignore my post)
