Happy New Year Anet and fellow players. Especially those comrades on the Gunnars Hold server
Ah well. No clues then sorry! Hope your luck turns soon tho!
Ah, also have you tried Cursed Shore? the sparks there should drop them. As do chests from CoE iirc?
To be honest Shai, I would not expect a dev to answer this one for you as there’s probably a reason why the DR mechanism isn’t trackable in order to avoid it being exploited by bots.
If it was only yesterday afternoon, it could just be a case of leaving that spot for 24hrs on the off chance it will naturally reset like dailys do. That is ofc pure speculation mind.
Can i ask why you believe it wont happen? I know when im in orr theres always groups doing story runs.
I can see your point, but i have to say, i personally enjoyed it more because it was a group thing. If you are on gunnars hold server, id be happy to get you in on our next story run through
I chose norn for my warrior main because dwarf wasnt an option.
Theres logic in there somewhere…
I also made a human ele who looks exactly like his gw1 counterpart for continuity!
Divinitys Reach has bits written in books scattered around the city. Thats a good place to start.
Much like GW1, a lot of the lore is written on the GW wiki, which has always been by far and away the best wiki-support of any mmo. There’s plenty of reading to be done there, including info on the other continents.
Also, outside of the game, there are 2 GW books. One of which sets up the game and the Destinys Edge story. Not exceptionally written, but both fun to read. They also fill in all the gaps pretty much storywise.
Yep…GW1 had some enormous grinds by the end…but like GW2 only if you wanted it to be. Getting titles and mats there was quite horrendous.
GW1 took an expansion or 2 before it really became great for me. Atm I rate GW2 for launch, but GW1 overall (since it had the years to become awesome). GW1 also became too elitist for my personal tastes and hard mode kinda dulled my enthusiasm for it. That’s a personal thing mind, I appreciate probably the majority of the community enjoyed it.
It’s impossible to really compare as this is so new and they are totally different games which I am happy about. I didn’t want to see GW1 become obsolete, which it hasn’t.
Most of my gripes with GW2 are lore/atmosphere. Zones don’t feel unique enough for each race as they did and races’ characteristics in the original. The 3 Orders here just don’t work for me – having Norn/Asura/Charr/Humans out of their racial character working together the way they do is just odd. I understand why it’s like it though.
Overall, I’m not disappointed by GW2 – I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experience to date and excited to see them add more over the future years.
No because they haven’t confirmed if there will be levels beyond 80 (although they have strongly hinted at it). All they have confirmed for absolute is that they will always have the stats equal to the top tier. I would expect if they did raise the level cap (and I sincerely hope they don’t), they will have to scale certain tiers up.
No matter what will get posted in this thread there will only be conjecture and speculation at this point. Anet have confirmed nothing since such matters are a long way off and things can/will change before we get to the point of worrying about it.
It was close between GW2 and Secret World for me, although secret world just pips it for me in terms of atmosphere, source material and quest design.
Great to see both my picks having such a high share of the votes
There was a house in Divinitys Reach which had a soldier and a woman having a chat outside and the woman invited the solider inside to discuss further. and similar noises were heard from within!
They really went to town on making sure NPCs/mobs weren’t just standing around doing nothing..
Seems a perfectly legit idea to me. Could be worth popping a thread up in the suggestions forum and if enough people agree, I can’t see it being a huge problem for them to implement.
Ask him to delete his older mail. I had the exact same problem with a diff colour dye and although I thought my inbox was half empty, it wasn’t. After I deleted a few, suddenly quite a few outstanding mails came flooding through!
The motto I live for is “buy when you see it”. So many lost purchases in (real) life taught me that lesson!
You’d still be annoyed if it suddenly dropped from a chest before Feb and if you do get one from the scavenger hunt, IF it ever comes along soon, just sell the precursor and make the money back
Yeah I know, I figured it might be myself confusing the matter rather than you
It has a % chance of happening when being directly damaged (as a opposed to just having aggro). Happens to me about 50% of the time under these conditions. Makes that Lost SHores rich Orich a bit more challenging to get!
The skin which is essentially Rytlocks sword is available to those with GW1 and it’s Hall of Monuments (sword was 10 achievement points iirc) as part of the carry over package.
Yeah just to clarify..it doesn’t need 50+, it’s just thats how many we raised. As Dai says, organisation and coordination (like all the temple) is the difference to completing it. If everyone is “going it alone” so to speak, its a fail
Welcome to the game
Interesting reading. Like the idea of an Aztec setting and the Chronomancer prof sounds intriguing.
Nice find
The time limit annoys me, but overall I like the fact it is at times very hard. The temple events in general are more fun because of it and it’s a shame the dragons feel so dumbed down in comparison.
As Paper Animal says though, shout for people and they will come. We got 50+ for this event at nearly 2am on our server after a call out went round Cursed Shore and LA. Only just did it mind, but a big early hours cheer went round when we did
Brisbane I liked, largely for the swamp areas and shallow rivers. Frostgage is excellent and I’m probably one of the few people who seem to really enjoy Orr (particularly Malchors)
Least favourite were all the Charr zones (partly because I still don’t agree Charr should have been playable, but thats just me). I was also disappointed by the early Shiverpeak areas. They just didn’t quite have the atmosphere of their GW1 counterparts.
Very much looking forward to the Crystal Desert if they can emulate the original design well enough with the new branded elements. I’m also really looking forward to seeing Cantha and Elona in the distant future. Two continents with real potential having seen what they’ve achieved so far, so early on.
Heading down to the starter areas later to do exactly this
Welcome to the game Pierre
I waited 4 years for it and haven’t been disappointed yet
Give them time. Most mmo’s take a long long time to get their “endgame” up and running as it is perceived by many players. We all know there are issues atm and anet have acknowledged that they are working on a big update Jan/Feb.
Lets see what they bring with this proper, non festival content first. 4 months in is not enough time. I’m not saying your concerns/ideas aren’t vaild, but it just wont happen at the drop of a hat
That’s impressive and very generous Sorae!!
:)
Yeah hopefully the tradition will stay, was a really nice gesture
I LOVE the idea of your GW1 character as a mini pet though. That would be so awesome as a gift!! Probably logistically impossible though, but would be cool
Seconded – that was a really useful addition to the patch. helloooo bank space!
That looked great fun! I’d love to try that or at least explore that under-side properly if they opened it up
I didn’t agree with quite a lot of the article, but it is (in the main) well argued and certainly an interesting read.
A good scriptwriter and some half decent voice acting would certainly go a long way and I’m personally a big hater of the crafting system. Then again, GW1 had some serious poor story writing until Nightfall (Factions story was so badly written I almost couldn’t finish it) and the voice acting was never beyond acceptable.
I disagreed with the comments about being directionless vs levelling. If anything that’s a great strength to us casual players. Being able to wander off and not be prompted where to go is a huge selling point for me and not something I’d personally want changed. Level based rewards? Yes, that would make more sense, and I could see that being implemented down the line.
None of which are game breakers for me mind – I thoroughly enjoy the game and add my voice to some of the suggestions of chnage the article makes
It might be tied to the time best suited for that serve’s zone.
For example on Gunnars Hold (euro) it resets at midnight – perfect for UK players and for European players (1 am for the continent).
I don’t think it’s turned it’s back by any means although it feels very different to GW1 – the overall atmosphere was better there, but it has had years to establish that. It wasn’t always as good as it became, although the elitism that became part of the game with hard mode pushed me away personally as a casual player.
I like the fact that GW2 hasn’t really replaced the original and not made it redundant (I hate when sequels do that). The first is kept unique, fun and still there to be played. Hopefully it’ll stay up and running for a very long time. It is and always will be awesome and in its own right
GW2 has barely started to get going
Congratulations!!
Guardians are great for support, although to get too hung up on the idea of tanking. The combat mechanics aren’t geared towards that.
I would vote Human to start with as they have an awesome looking starter city to kick start your adventure.
I second what Pandemic says, the fun is in trying out for yourself. The game is only 3 months old, so its worth you deciding what you think of the game.
From my perspective the game is certainly bustling on some servers early/end zones included (theres a sep thread you can find which will guide you on that score).
One just dropped off a Veteran Wolf in WVW. I was stunned!
Not really, its still installed, so if I want to play it its free and there if I choose to. Plenty still to do there for HoM and its a different game so I dont feel like I’m taking a backward step (even though dervishes got changed and I never really got back into him).
I do however get very nostalgic when the GW1 music kicks in! As good as the score is in GW2, overall I much prefer the original music.
Love the game personally
People complaining on the forums for an mmo is nothing new. And we’re in the period of life for an MMO where people are deciding whether its for them, so expect a lot of negative Vs Postive postings right now.
Def not one of the worst on the market, plenty out there claiming that title
Potentially you may get a faster response if you message them via twitter. It’s the sort of quick question they’d probably answer for you there
Mine came through thanks Anet and thanks to the author of this thread
I got Tahlkoras Boots (prob a bit smelly after all this time though..)
Attended but no boss due to bug. No mail
The last dragon may be a forest dragon. Deer frolick in forests…
Doomed!!
Will those whose servers bugged rather than crashed still get reward? Not the end of the world if not
Great news Hopefully issue laid to rest now
Great work
I bet jaws are dropping at the development team seeing that made so soon lol
No issues seen with population on my server – saw about 50 at one Orr event, but ofc it will vary from server to server, esp as ppl switch for wvw and as Ez says, the population is diffused much more now (as you’d expect).
Yes a lot of have probably left, but every mmo loses ppl after 3 months for it being not what they hoped. SW had it, Conan had it, Star Trek had it, TSW had it. It’s just the way MMo’s go.
GW1 saw huge population dips and spikes between content, but that was the nature of a free to play sub. People found other things to play in between
My personal feeling is that the game is 3 months old and lot of reactions about ascended gear and quitting at such an infant stage of the game to me, seem a little hyperbolic
Personally I have no interest in Ascended, so I am ignoring it. Thats not to say I disagree with the addition, I just don’t need it for my experience, therefore the game is freely set up for me to ignore and continue thoroughly enjoying a really excellent game (with plenty of issues I’d expect to see at this stage, granted).
Unlike a lot of other games that have gear treadmills, this one doesn’t force me to have it in order to progress in the game. It’s there at to progress in FOTM. I am simply not a good enough player at such instances to worry about those higher levels, even though I have enjoyed the early stages.
The only thing I can say construcively is that as a no-sub, you can freely drop out of the game if you feeling despondent about its direction and return later down the line when Anet really get going with the game.
That is ofc just my own feeling and having read a great deal of threads, perhaps not one shared by many posters at the moment.
GW1 evolved to the point where you were lvl 20 by the time you left the starter areas – you pretty much were all set up after then. Levelling was just a thing to do whilst you got to grips with your character. The game was about building a skill set up (Secret World based its skill system heavily on GW1) and making something truly spectacular to play the game with, so only being lvl 20 never became an issue.
You also have to remember it took a while for GW to really hit its stride. The first expansion was OK, by the time the 3rd expansion, it became something quite special and has never really been beaten in many respects.
It took me a lot longer to hit a toon to 80 here and Ive barely dungeon bashed at all in my 500 hours. I can understand the frustration those who reached 80 quicker, but if GW1 is anything to go by, you will not be short on things to do in the future.
There should totally be a reward for anyone making that Malchors Leap one or Lost Shores JP whilst the problem is in place!
There’s a challenge for someone!
