Experience and skill in some respects rarely go hand-in-hand (members of parliament for eg are often very experienced yet utterly unskilled at their job), but I grant you, yes as an experience gauger, I can see how it would a good judge on that score. For what use that would be in the pve or living world scenarios, I still remain unenlightened.
Again, this is not me having a dig at them, I’m genuinely curious what use people will find from a pve leaderboard. I read the blog post and it was devoid of any real detail on that score.
Still think it’s a very bizarre thing to have for pve achievements, but by the same token its complete lack of relevance means I don’t object to it either. If people like it, then so be it.
It’s just, however…odd(I have no opinion on the pvp side of things as I don’t pvp)
Achievement points IS a good gauge of a players skill level, mainly because it means more time spent in the game = more time to hone your skills. My best experience with pugs is usually people who have at least 4-5k achievements. Having said that, I’m not saying people under that amount, people are always noobs/bad players but it is an excellent instant guage of a players skill level.
I’m not sure that is true. Apart from the easy grinds, a highly skilled player can be out achieved by someone with a lot of alts who has done all aspects of the story. If achievements were purely skileld based, then yes I’d agree totally, but most are grinds/luck/purchased – (emperor title for eg) based.
They don’t really bother me mind as they don’t interfere with the game atm. I just find them oddly irrelevant to the way the game works. If people like them, then fair play
Lots of positive feedback goes on Rash. It just doesn’t happen in General Discussion. There’s plenty of good healthy, positive and constructive discussion going on on the other parts of the forum. It does make me wonder why Genereal exists, but maybe it just exists so ppl can let off steam.
I have only minor niggles with the game, none of which impair my overall enjoyment (I can live with the elitist stuff, even if I can never reach that pinnacle myself). It’s an ace game and there’s so much potential in the years to come. I struggle to find a game which has put so much out at launch content wise. I sometimes wonder if the amount of critisism can often be attributed to us being spoiled by monthly releases. Perhaps we demand too much.
Well, except anything I demand. That of course is entirely reasonable and should be implemented immediately ;D
There is that danger I agree, but I saw another thread on this where everyone was pouring scorn on the whole achievement system, so there is a good chance most people will just ignore it as a means to judge others, with some will taking it in a jovial spirit and only a tiny minority will use it to grief other players.

Bookworm was definetly buffed. He wasn’t one shotting everyone in sight when we last fought him. It makes a nice challenge, but was a bit of a shock.
Also, the frost buff making him immune wasn’t consistent with when he could or couldn’t take damage, makiing him near impossible to fight him. Possible bug, I don’t know, but we couldn’t time our attacks and damage him enough to kill him because of it

Its a good technique, but unnecs convuluted resolution to a problem where easier solutions have been put forward. I guess we will see what april brings.
They already stated in a previous thread that no legendaries would be added until they improved the way precursors are obtained
Can’t remember, but challenge accepted
Smooth I think you have mis-understood us – the bosses themselves aren’t the main source of frustration, it’s finding them and the pure luck that is involved no matter how orgainsed and communicative your team is. We’ve acknowledged the bosses need strategy to beat and that is how it should be, getting to that stage would be nice though.
Several suggestions have been put forward constructively to rectify this;
1) a sensible time limit. If non-zerging tactics are what are needed to kill boss, then half hr to find boss is the min. That will give time to engage a tactical fight.
2) split the bosses into the 3 tiers – for eg the lornars pass one is easy enough to find (if another team doesnt kill him first which is another separate issue). The Gendarren/Frostgorge ones shouldn’t roll in t1 – it takes too long to find them and then find the next target
3) Alliances. We have been told by the dev its our fault we are failing these because we aren’t co-operating with others, yet no infrastructure exists to do this atm.
Three very valid suggestions put forward by a range of guilds, including sympathetic larger ones
TSW for me has much poorer dungeons (I will admit to only playing the early ones though) – they felt like a mess. It also caters for the elite and has an absoltuely abhorrent community (like a lot of funcom games). I’ve tried getting into the later dungeon in TSW and unless I have the gear or been there before, I’m kicked out. There’s no room for new players.
It’s quest system is superior in every way to any MMO I have played – the variety, inventiveness on show is a credit to the devs. The NPCs and storyline are also outstanding. I suspect implementing it is what drove the costs to sky high and meant other areas of the game were neglected. Anet already stated that they could only use a certain number of voice overs to free up code elsewhere (or something like that)
The combat system isn’t great though – it took GW1 and tried to copy it, but over complicated itself and got into a right mess with it.
GW2 is far more accessible – I enjoy the dungeons (esp Fractals), it’s much more pick and play and I personally prefer the combat system here – it feels more intuitive. Don’t get me wrong, TSW has some real groundbreaking elements (which prob cost a bomb to implement) and I enjoy it immensely, but GW2 wins for me.
Culling is due to be fixed in PVE this year – it’s already been confirmed, but there are technical hitches preventing an immediate fix.
I’m cautious about it, simply because the wvw culling fix has meant I have to now play on lowest settings. I personally would rather in PVE have a nice looking environment to play in and put up with culling (I don;t find culling obtrusive in PVE)
1) Collectors! They would alleviate this RNG a bit – trade 100 bits of junk from Orr mobs for a lodestone or something similar
2) Build variety. I have no massive issue with the gw2 skill system and gw1 went too far, so some middle ground maybe
3) Guild Halls.
4) Dwarves
5) Dervishes (before they destroyed them in the re-balance)
6) Crystal Desert. Yeah I know we’ll get there eventually, I just want to go there now
These aren’t and never were meant to be only elite missions though, thats why there are diff tiers to cater for diff skill groups.
This is just plain wrong. The only thing that changes are the numbers required, that is all.
OK fair point. Having 3 tiers should represent different skill levels then, even if its 3 harder bosses exclusive to that tier. Each tier having its sub set of bosses it can pool the bounty from. That would eliminate the time limit, allow better rewards for each tier and potentially alleviate the bigger issues here.
PVE leaderboards have never worked in MMO’s. Some people will love them, fair play to them. I’ll look at them for a laugh, but they’ll have no bearing on the game so I’ll just ignore them.
Well, entirely different teams work on balancing and content additions so having both in a patch is perfectly viable.
To answer the Q more directly, I personally prefer content given a choice, but then again I play tough/vit Warrior and thus I’m happy enough with my trait tree.
No, because they haven’t done anything wrong against the rules of the game and I have no doubt given the chance an opposing side would have considered the same tactic had the opportunity arisen. It’s also impossible for Anet to enforce/punish such a scenario.
Haven’t said that, I can see where you are coming from and you did the right thing in leaving if you felt it was morally unfair. That’s about the only option you had
These aren’t and never were meant to be only elite missions though, thats why there are diff tiers to cater for diff skill groups.
Re-read complete in entirity, and I realize it is a complaint thread, but – NOT ONE SINGLE COMMENT about “Oh our Guild Loves the new Guild Bounties.” “Thank you for Guild Bounties.” “We now have a Guild Bounty night in our Guild cause we like em so well, and it helps ensure we have enough members on to easily complete.”
Not one Defender of, or LTP wiseass, suggested that Guild Bounties are anything but an activity to be master and ground for rewards. My experience as a guest includes listening to a rage quit conversation as the guild leader and senior members tried to coordinate a T1. Oh yeah, bounties good for the game.
Don’t get me wrong I like the bounties – I like the concept of tracking the mob and getting into an intense boss fight. That I find fun. Our guilds problem is that it’s luck, not skill in getting to that point. This idea that “its all about communication and coordination” is baffling when that’s exactly what we are doing and it makes very little diff to finding 2 targets in such a small time limit.
It’s about fizzy drinks and Siamoths. That’s Siamoths pronounced Sy-a-moth for the record
Ascended weapons don’t yet exist, so legendaries remain on par with exotics.
How legendary weaps will scale to ascended stats post transmutate, no one knows. I suspect the devs will work that out when it comes to releasing ascended weapons. But, we don’t know when that will be.
I guess the guarantee would be make your legendary, transmutate now if u want to and if for some bizarre reason it doesn’t scale up when the ascended weaps are released, just transmutate it onto an ascended weapon
At the risk of extreme backlash, might I suggest that it’s ok to lose? The chance of losing makes it thrilling. I like a challenge, don’t you? If you are still convinced you need more numbers, ally with another guild and get help on bounties. Make sure you understand each bosses mechanics and the best way to counter their defense. Happy hunting!
You are in part correct – I’d hate it to be like the Dragons where it’s a guaranteed win. But the bosses themselves aren’t the issue. I have no issues with their mechanics. The issue for small guilds is the finding of them. That is pure luck/numbers. Nothing else.
Seems to be some very bad chat lag on Gunnars Hold. Seems to be mainly Guild Chat as map chat felt unaffected – others were reporting the same issue in that channel.
Quite awesome!
Kitty got Skillz!
Coordination is a small part. Luck is the overiding factor in the whole thing. A thoroughly coordinated team in constant communication can still fail if the target is in a place hard to find in this incredulously silly time limit.
Small guilds work extra hard on coordinating and communicating and are less rewarded than big guilds who just throw numbers at the problem.
We had a situation where a big guild were scouting all the bounties, having half a dozen at EACH target then would roll the bounty. They asked us and anyone who engaged the bounty not to engage the target even though we had activated already. Out of respect, we chose not to grief them over it, but we ended up failing the bounty. And then subsequent attempts as we never found the target (and map chat ppl were trolling the location in other zones which wasn’t helpful).
Please don’t use the coordination argument. Too much luck is involved at the moment for this to be true – luck for small guilds, sheer numbers for large guilds. I’d love it to be based on skill/coordination/communication, but it isn’t.

Karma gain is dependat on how much you are willing to farm events and use karma boosters to augment it. Ive seen millions racked up by players, but they invest a lot of farming time into it. It’s not as quick and easy, but events are always here. SAB is (currently) on here til April 30th, so I guess it balances out
Judging by your post, I can’t see why it would be a waste of time. You clearly want the shards to speed up legendary gain, you are clearly having fun. Sounds like a win/win situation to me
For the record, I’d probably do the same

I can see how the counter would be useful, but it risks making the achievement slightly less valuable (altho there are ppl who look it up on guides anyway so prob counters that argument).
The other thing is that not having a counter is in keeping with its retro roots. Logical and useful things like counters are a modern game trait.
OK, that is about as stunningly good a story as I have ever heard..!! And you get extra points for
“When the novelty began to wear off, I decided to take the joke to its logical, hyperbolic conclusion, and just began to talk about beedogs pretty much non-stop”

The last dev post I read was that it was def part of their plans, but no time frame at the moment. So it could be April..it could later this year. Basically they said no new legendaries would be added until they decided on a way to make precursors better to obtain.
How that will work only time will tell
I was just stuck loading into SAB. I shut the client down after 3mins, didnt look like it was going anywhere. No error message (maybe because I didn’t wait tho)
I find even looking at a dredge mine chugs my PC! Smoke effects are a big problem for my set up
Regardless of what any of you above posters say, clearly you never played GW1 and if you did it was not prior to the alcohol spam patch…
I remember the pain of the achievement in GW1…
…now THAT was a grind!
As long as you can get over the antiquated movement system, it still is a brilliant game. Took a while to really get going, so at least u will have the beauty of seeing it in its fullness (minus the population). The story is pretty much as badly written, but the lore is exceptional and that more than makes up for it.
Its also intetesting seeing the map in its first incarnation.
Just remember, it was ground breaking – most mmos since have copied a slice from it, but gw did so many things first and can proudly say it did those things better
Except they lasted 2 days..
Its an interesting point actually. I have very few snags with the game, but boss mechanics are one of them, esp in open world. The frog is a classic example of a reasonably challenging boss mechanic and under that definition is a better boss than tequatl or shatterer.
There you go josh, another project for you – re dsigning dragon fights. You dont really need sleep right?
Remember, charr were unequivocal bad guys in the first game. For some, guild wars will always be a human story.
Id play my asura more if he could shout BOOKAH at passing humans tho…
Maybe with some of the comlaints about it ruining mmersion in the open world, they took it out? Seems odd to not have an explanation, unless its an unexpected pull
Anarchy online has world pvp based on factions. A tiny fraction of the main player base used it. It also enourages a griefing, immature mindset from its players by having it. I personally would not like to see it here.
Also, im not sure open world factions would work when the idea is a unified front vs dragons. Duelling is a better option. Again not something i like, but its a much more contained way of having casual pvp than open world
+1 for sticky! A great story a lot of gamers could learn from!
The pop up when you enter the portal says recommended 5 players. It’s a bit deceptive
It’s perfetcly playable with less. Plenty of people are playing it soloable as it scales the access according to your party. Bosses are tricky, but don’t be deceived by the 5 player thing – I’ve spent a couple of hrs in with just 2 of us!
:)
I’d love to see it permanent, but it the reasons are likely below;
1) rolling it out once a year gives a chance to refresh new related items in the shop
2) keeps the focus on the event over a short period of time. Even the greatest of these events tend to slow down after a few weeks and once a year keeps it from being repetitive. Also, Something like Wintersday not only slows down, but only has short term appeal anyway. It would remove the special feel of the season to carry it through
3) To prevent demands from the community to adding more content to it throughout the year which is probably time consuming
4) To prevent distraction from the main game which they will want to push above all else – that’s what they market.
Having said that, SAB works, it’s fun and I’d be happy to ignore all the above and keep it in for longer if it’s what players want
I camt link it from my tablet, but head to the living world forum and then super adve ture box. Theres now several petitions asking for it to be perm, so feel free to add your name to any and all
Astounding!
Thats right…using my own words..i went there..
Correct, although there is a petition in the super adventure box forum to get this made into a perm mini game to go alongside keg brawl etc.
Me too jordo!! Actually i kept my fire build out of prinicple…didnt lessen the cursing mind lol
Because the 6th dragon is in fact bowser and only a team up of trahearne and mario can overcome the fiend!!
