Randulf Rawhide

Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’
Though the streams are swollen
Keep them doggies rollin’
Rawhide!
Rain and wind and weather
Hell-bent for leather
Wishin’ my gal (Eir) was by my side.
All the things I’m missin’,
Good vittles, love, and kissin’,
Are waiting at the end of my ride

The fights between mobs – seen a stag vs a bear and 3 elementals fight each other today. Gives a nice “real” atmosphere

I like the Karka too. I know the event was an experiment that went wrong, but I like the zone, I the enemy and their added difficulty. Definitely would like to more of them in the future hopefully with added content for Southson. It’s a very pretty area – Kudos to the designer(s)

May I suggest a post in the player helping player forum. Put in your server, time available etc. Then give the option of lvl 1-4 of fractals and see if you can arrange something with those having similar issues. It’s a time honoured successful way of doing things in mmo’s when people get stuck and a good way to find like minded others to team with outside of the guild.

A shame your guild resolutely wont help once within a month. I’d have left if I was in a guild that refused to help. Also, yes they said Ascended would be everywhere, but that was 2 months ago – barely a blip in mmo time. It’ll happen, but things really do take a long time to implement I’m afraid.

Hope you finish your monthly

Island of Orr Content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

There is something in the forthcoming content patches to address it yes.

I’m in the minority and love doing Orr events and exploring, but there’s a large dislike for it due to the amount of risen and difficulty, which is understandable. Guess we’ll wait and see what the devs are changing.

Hope that helps!

Posters vs. Players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Randulf.7614

Play loads, its a superb game. Play time depends if I’m not working or have a free evening. But I post a bit as well.

The negativity and sounds of doom for the game populate all mmo forums – GW1 had it just as bad and many remember how it “would never last more than a couple of years if that”. All the Funcom ones are perhaps even worse – TSW (an excellent game) is much worse than here and the Anarchy Online (my fav game) only ever had bad postings for a few years and thats been going 11-12 years with a tiny tiny player base.

I’m not saying the negativity here isn’t always valid, a lot is, but a general discussion board like this will inevitably attract more angry postings than positive.

So much good content for them to roll out across the years ahead

Would you like the skills from GW1 in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Erasculio makes an excellent point – Yes I’d like more skills, but the number on GW1 did make balancing impossible. If you think the calls for nerfs on classes here are bad, it was nothing at all compared to the nerf rage on GW1, but it was just too hard for them to keep up with

Can we future choose own home city?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I don’t think lore-wise the story has progressed enough for charr to have Divinity’s Reach as a Home city. From a role playing perspective, I like the idea of your race visiting far off cities of other races.

For me personally, it would be a big lore breaker

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I guess the trade off for no currencies would be camping boss respawns for loot.

I sort of agree with what you are saying overall though and it’ll be intersting to see how the bosses are changing with the update, although i’d be (happily) surprised to see anything drastic.

I think there are enough ppl who are playing because they want to play, not just grind money. The game caters for both I guess.

4 aspects Guild Wars 2 lacks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Randulf.7614

It’s more for social play than anything else Fyre. It gives people a focal point to commune more than anything else. In the first game there were other advantages such as faction gain and GvG. They give any game an aspect not revolved around running around genocially slaughtering a zones wildlife.

Not for everyone granted, but a nice touch

4 aspects Guild Wars 2 lacks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Not being a fan of pvp, I can’t really voice an opinion on those bits. Guild Halls aren’t being worked on at this time anyway so GvG prob a long way off if it happens.

Hall of Monuments yes, but much further down the line. It took off in GW1 as a way to extend the games life and because it had built up that library of stuff to put in it. So yes, but no need for it yet.

Housing – undecided here. I think when they do implement Guild Halls, this will negate the need as long as they are customisable. I have personal housing in LOTRO and Anarchy Online. They’re nice, but I don’t visit them anymore.

Randulf.7614

I think it boils down to what you want from the game? Apart from each new prof I start, I just enjoy exploring the world, re-doing DE’s in diff zones, throwing in the odd dungeon or casual wvw session. Maybe a bit of self induced grind. It kinda has everything, in a casual sort of way. Maybe that’s the thing. Don’t try to look for things, just pick it up now and again and find something like that to get stuck into for a short session.

Personally the game suits me perfectly and I have other mmos going to cover what GW2 doesn’t fulfill

Legendary Grind (500 badges of honor)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Understand your pain. Im not a wvw fan as i dont build pvp chars and consequently i usually get owned and the gain for my weap has been grindy here. However, legendaries should reward for all aspects of the game and the badges do represent that in their own way.

The way i looked at it was that these legendaries were meant to be a long term goal, therefore just doing the jps every day for a couple of months before i log, was a reasonable trade off from my perspective

I do agree with sarabi tho about rewarding objectives as well as kills

Ascended or Excluded?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

This is something that has been discussed at extraordinary length – well worth going back a few weeks to see when this was being posted on the forums every day and you should see plenty of discussion.

In summary though, Anet have stated through a Q&A that in hindisght to release fractals as the only way to get this gear was an error and there will be more ways to obtain ascended going forward. No time time frame has been set, although we have content patches in Jan/Feb/March which may or may not address this.

Personally I have ignored Ascended. Not because I don’t agree with it, but because it isn’t in any way required to play any aspect of the game competently. A well geared toon is no sub for a skilled toon after all

I think this is an excellent idea. It could either be attached as a description to the weapon or there could be NPC’s at say the Priory who’d detail the history of each weapon. Maybe even a book in the Priory library for each one.

Forums full of negative-non in game? Why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Forums as a faceless form of communication by their nature attract more negative than positive posts. I think most people accept that now, especially on gaming forums.

Doesn’t necessarily mean what they are saying is wrong mind, it’s just the way it is put across isn’t as friendly/constructive/patient as it should be. I believe there is a sticky at the top of forum to this effect.

LOTRO uses a 4th support role very effectively and the trinity works there incredibly well. But it also deisgns excellent instances to compliment it.

Should the trinity be re-formed here? No, in my opinion. There are plenty of good games that use trinity for those who want it. That’s the option to please the other spectrum.

GW2 is trying things out, it hasn’t perfected it yet, but as many of us keep saying, it is just too early to call it a failure or doom its future. There’s a long way to go before it can get things right. I also echo the calls for a larger skill pool and may be that is all that is needed.

It’s good the trinity issue has caused debate mind, I’m sure the devs had hoped that would be the case. They were unlikely to perfect it from launch and they are undoubtably relying on continued feedback/constructive criticism from the community
