Add Chilli Pepper nodes to HoT maps.

Chili peppers are an Ascalon-only node drop. So, I wouldn’t expect them to make them into a Maguuma Jungle node, as well.

Just start doing a run through parts of Ascalon maps every day, stopping to gather any herb node you see. You’ll get a decent number of them if you keep at it.

Good to note, yes.

I wish chili pepper dropped in more than quantities of 1 or 2, though. It’s used at many levels of cooking, and it’s kind of cruel to do to newer players (unless they sell them on the trading post.). Vanilla is Maguuma-only, but it drops in batches of roughly 3-5, used in baked goods, so I’d like to see them parallel more.

A quick-and-dirty healing power fix

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

It’s not a terrible idea, but I don’t think vitality is as useless as you suggest. Healing Power, however, is very obviously under-tuned and needs to just get a buff. I think it should just be percentage based like crit damage.

I don’t know what they’re thinking leaving it like it’s been for 3 years.

I’m sure it’s because of..
wait for it..
e-sports.

MMOs are constantly ruled by a niche segment of the game, because it draws attention. So, the game continues to be balanced around PvP, and if healing power got overtuned, the kitten wave would exceed the old Traits 2.0 thread length.

Well then they should just buff it in other game modes. It’s not rocket science.

And that’s a conversation for an entirely different thread. :P
I’m sure lots of people would love to see better PvE and PvP balance by making traits and skills differ between modes.

But, back on track, I do like the idea of healing power being a percentage-based heal instead of holding a dozen different scales based on skill. It’s likely one of the big problems with healing power as a whole, is that it applies different throughout every healing skill.

Why Weapon Swap Works

in Revenant

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

People ask for a lot of things. Often rudely.

That doesn’t make them right. Or polite.

When I was poking at Revenant, I never had energy problems. I had cooldown issues. And people have been asking for those to lower as well.
…Which, come to think of it, is a solid reason to grant weapon swap. With weapon skills on cooldown, a weapon switch would give a Revenant more to do while in between cooldowns. I’m iffy on how much of a game changer that really is, but it’s a solid perk, and the OP details many other good reasons for it.

The only thing it doesn’t quite resolve is what starlinvf brought up about the trait/weapon/legend dependency, but we’ll see how tangled it is this weekend.

I much preferred the suggestion to add boon duration to it.

Why Weapon Swap Works

Or you could do like every Thief ever and.. wait? The energy on swap is nifty, and I wouldn’t exactly call it an exploit, but.. it’s kind of exploiting the current system for more ability spam. But, I also assume it’s actually a design decision that the devs are going to look into, so that will stay until they find it’s getting misused.
/shrug
I’m ambivalent about that.

Weapon swap is.. okay, it just doesn’t synergize well with the current legend design. While one could use any weapon with any legend, and the devs will encourage that for robust gameplay, traits will mean the difference between ‘usable’ and ‘optimized’ for each legend.

Also, it’d be much more in theme for the legends to influence weapon attacks, rather than requiring weapon swap.

Your suggestion reminds me of a trait in the beast mastery line for rangers. We have a minor that increases our pets dps by 10% if were above 90%. Theres also a minor in the WS line that reduces the damage we take if were above that threshold. So some things like that exist. But having it be a comeon theme across classes may indeed encourage builds that can keep people above a health threshold.

For as zealous at the OP is about the suggestion, there’s a point to it.

For exceptional players, a trait like that being common to every class would mean that builds would get a damage boost by having it and not taking damage. Those that use dodges/blinds/aegis would get a raw performance boost.

For those not so tuned, it provides incentive to have a dedicated healer without requiring it.

Though, I’ll be honest, I’d rather just see Healing Power scrapped, merged into Vitality and be done with it. The defense trifecta is too spread out, and Toughness is the only useful stat.

Why Weapon Swap Works

in Revenant

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Actually the problem was Legends and Traits only supporting a single weapon in focus. This made the choice of the second legend extremely awkward, as half its abilities only made sense with a particular weapon setup, and half the traits in a given line has the weapon in mind.

This wouldn’t have been a problem if the Weapons were independent from Legends, all the Trait lines incorporated something for at least 3 different weapons, there was a weapon oriented trait line, or the Legends didn’t rely on a particular weapon setup to enable their traits.

There was a fifth option that we were all originally hoping for, where the Legends interacted with the Weapon’s skills (giving effects to the weapon, rather then the weapon effects procing Legendary traits). But since that didn’t happen, we ran into a problem where the tight pairing of equipment, weapon, traits and utilities meant we could only run one Legend with any competency.

Adding the weapon swap didn’t fix the problem….. it just worked around it. Even with this change, Revanents still remain the rigid class out of the 9.

Yup. Revenant weapon swap helps with the synergy problem, but it doesn’t really help the overall experience.

I would have much preferred that each legend gave a bonus to weapon skills; Jalis for range/protect, Shiro for damage, Mallyx for conditions, and Ventari for heal/regen. The main argument of “need weapon swap for range” would be handled by having Jalis, but it would come with added synergy with other weapons (closer-range defense for sword, for example).

Buuut, lazy option is fine too. :P

I don’t believe that the fact that more and more drops are being delivered in a way that completely bypasses MF is a mistake or accident. Quite the opposite.

Oh, of course it isn’t an accident. I understand it was done as a choke on the rewards-faucet. But it’s still a rat-droppings thing to do after re-introducing magic find away from gear.

While locking magic find out of containers is a deliberate, morally-grey area, it does call back to Silverwastes and its progressive magic-find system. I can get behind that for more maps, actually.

To think of it, it might be nice to see other maps take that strategy on. Successfully complete dynamic events, get increasing stacks of MF bonus while on that map that includes bags. A potentially more equitable solution: make the bonus per stack equal to a portion of the account’s Magic Find.
Shrug and some easy math as an example: Stacks squared, max of 10 stacks, as a percentage of one’s magic find. So, with +300%MF, 1 stack is +3%, 8 stacks is +192%, etc. It would encourage players to stay on a map to do events.

I think it would be useful to explore how much of a benefit magic find really is. Myself and others experienced much better drops when we were below 50% magic find. I am now at 190% and I haven’t had an exotic drop from a boss bonus chest for a long time.

Does magic find really work?

It only affects drops directly off monsters, SW chests, and PvP boxes. It will have no impact on bonus chests. Essentially, MF became useless when champ bags were released and all loot centered around containers.

Might be time to fix that, then.

Ever gonna fix minions?

Ranger pets are roughly in a decent place. Sort of. Like a first-generation game’s AI that I would expect. Considering many other MMOs have worked on more robust AI, I find ranger pets lacking, but workable, assuming they can survive. But pets and minions are not afforded damage resistance to AoE like in other games, nor are they very tough, so the moment a monolith boss does anything interesting, “Pet down!”

A studious ranger can make use of come/attack commands to avoid AoE, so there’s a skill and judgment component. Necromancers have zero control in that regard. Not to mention that the slightest bump in the terrain causes minions to get severe acrophobia and be utterly paralyzed, sometimes for the duration of a fight. Not 100% of the time, obviously, but it happens often enough that I switched from a staff-wielding minion-herder to wells and dagger/dagger.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Heh, sorry if I got a little tangential. Happens. :P

On the junk-to-currency angle, I feel it could work out reasonably well. The unique currency would be exchanged away from normal vendors, meaning waypoint costs to cash them in. And since junk items are soulbound, there’s no way for a huge stockpile to grow out of control (in quantity or price) on the trading post.

Hm, looking back at the original proposal, I wonder if there could be event chains to lead up to the junk trader. Or maybe that’s too convenient. Hrm. I like the idea in general, I’m not sure about the details.

But seriously, when villains like Scarlet die, who’s to say they are really dead? I have a suspicion we’re going to see her reincarnated into a Scarlet Dragon, or a Scarlet Ultra Vine Monster or whatever.

I’m pretty sure some enterprising minion out of Scarlet’s forces kept her head in a pot with a little dirt, after we refused to put her in a woodchipper. I mean, just imagine, you do a map meta event and, BAM, a giant turnip head burrows out of the ground to a reveal a vacant, cackling face with a very familiar hairdo, accompanied by whipping vines and technicolor sprays of poison. (And then maybe those watchknights show up again so people can get the dangblasted cores…)

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

I’m reminded of the vendor from the Lunar Festival. Players could trade in gold for a chance envelope that could give prizes. If you had extra tokens (regional currency), you could buy a second batch of envelopes.

In retrospect, that’s a really good delivery system. It takes overabundance resources and turns them into option, targeted loot chances. The once-per-day limitation gives the markets time to adjust. It also stops the rewards from flooding in, similar to how much the Ascended material eaters work.

So.. here’s a thought on a multi-tiered reward system:

Tier 1: Overabundant resources trade to vendors.
This removes gold/material from the game at a decent pace, limited by a daily number of purchases.
Rewards at this tier are rare, but it provides a high chance to get tokens for the next tier up. The RNG nature of it keeps it from being guaranteed and calculated, but the high chance of advancement tokens gives a feeling of progression. (Because variable reward structures are evil but effective that way. >_>)

Tier 2: Reward Tokens from Tier 1 become higher opportunities for the same rare rewards, but at a higher success rate. Depending on factor, this could scale in tiers until “guaranteed” actually happens. But say, for example, a .01% chance on Tier 1 becomes .1% at Tier 2. As it goes forward, ‘failures’ on getting the rare drop still have a high chance to drop a Tier 3 token.

Tier X-1: Iterate Tier 2 until there is a guaranteed chance to get a random item of the highest tier. (As an example, a random exotic weapon skin.) If it’s account bound, also pitch in a very low chance to get a box with a full guarantee of reward, a box with a rare item of choice. It it remains unbound, then expect it to enter the trading post pool to help moderate market values.

Healing.... It might need some tuning...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

the healing stat should govern outgoing heals, not incoming heals. its just silly how it works now.

but governing outgoing heals is what it does now …

if I throw a ‘heal’ – regardless of my healing stat it will effect a target with more healing power then a target with less. To put it another way, if a warrior in full zerk with vigorous shouts uses a FGJ!, a player in clerics will heal more then a player in zerk gear, the warrior and the zerk will heal equally. – Therefore healing power governs the amount of heal you receive, not the heal you throw.

the heal amount in the tooltip is the amount of healing you receive, not the amount you give to someone else.

How did you test this? Just checked in game and it heals others for what it says on the tooltip. I heal myself for more because of the 7% medic buff from WvW.

Uh, yeah. >_> Easiest way for me to test this for me is to just run Soothing Mist while in a dungeon with my guild. They all heal the same amount per tick.

Too much condi cleanse?

For really condi-heavy builds, there’s no getting away from them, eventually. In the very least, you’ll be limping around with bleed/poison for most of the fight. Cleanses have reasonably varied cooldown times, but there are large gaps in between, unless you really, really spec for it.

That’s counter-play, at that point, since you’re sacrificing control, damage, and in some cases, support, so you personally can stay upright.

And if the group has a lot of condi cleanse, a group of similar size might very well have tons of conditions to spread around.

Meanwhile, can we get some alternate collections or forge recipes available for earning the collection exotics? Anecdote: I’ve purchased some of the reasonably available exotics, but others are hideously out of reach.
While I’d like to see similar options for all unique exotics, it’s mainly the collection-based ones that should be attainable by more realistic means.

I never did the LS where I had to kill her. I liked Scarlet. And I’d have totally signed up to be one of her minions if she had asked me to. Would rather help out a crazed Sylvari than spend another second listening to Kasmeer’s brain-dead rantings. <Loads shotgun>

At first I heard “huehuehue, i wanna be teh ebil!” I loathe that in games about heroes.

Then I read why. I’ll admit, it’s a tough call and a reasonable motive. In the back of my mind, I wouldn’t feel too bad if I got mind controlled (by yet another storyline mesmer!) just like in Personal Story and hammer-whacked the b-iconics. Except maybe Rox and Taimi.

Looks like they took the sticky away.

Well, this thread died anyways ever since they closed the old BLTC Forums.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Must save bookmark now since forum search is a mythical beast.

Or, we’ll just have to keep asking interesting, pointed questions to keep it on the top page and lure out JS to respond some more.

Out of all that was posted, the one I got excited about?

Subobjectives. It’s little QoL changes like this that vaguely restore my trust in ANet.

For as irritating as Scarlet was, I’m still sorry she’s dead.

Later, tater.

I started off liking her, truth told. She was vivacious, quirky, a planty, feminine Joker.

But then she never stopped. She never stopped having inane, insane motives, never stopped having an increasingly implausible backstory, never stopped being the same, unflinching villain.

She was a Mary Sue that deserved what she got: a banner in the chest. And yet, it still didn’t end. They had to keep shoehorning her name everywhere.

Healing.... It might need some tuning...

Statistical evidence? A class solos a full dungeon without doing any dodging just by out healing all damage and it’s not evidence that the stat is doing more than enough work?

How powerful do you actually want healing to be oO Full HP heal at each regen tick?

One class. One specific build of that class, which is already known for decent healing/defense/support. That’s an anecdote and an outlier. If someone can facetank the same dungeon with a water ele, I might claim that healing power is fine where it is.
Maybe.

It doesn’t excuse the fact that healing power is roughly meaningless, because the amount it contributes barely increases healing efficiency by 15%, if stacked with a ridiculous amount of healing power gear. An equivalent number in Power is going to raise base damage around 50%, before accounting for multiplicative benefits of Precision and Ferocity.

Similarly to how condition damage changed, and as Pax suggested, changing the base heal to be lower but allowing healing power more significance in overall gains would give importance to the stat. I’m not saying it should heal less than before, but the tuning should aim for a desired amount of healing power to keep the numbers the same, similar to how condition builds starting ‘working again’ around 700 Condition Damage.

ANet doesn’t like diminishing returns. It’s not a bad thing really.

Also, Healing power already give you insane survivability : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6DKZ45a0VU

A nigh-two hour video for one spec of one class is an anecdote, not sufficient for statistical significance. Remove Altruistic Healing, and it’s suddenly not so ‘insane’ for survivability.

The real reason ANet isn’t going to change healing power is “e-sport” and PvP. If a bunker survives too long (and who doesn’t have knockbacks, honestly?), it’s suddenly a huge qq situation. That bugs me. They’re worried about meta-game blowback when they could actually just fix it by tweaking healing power and letting the meta sort itself out.

One of the reasons Healing Power has such a garbage ratio is because the formula is linear. Set the coefficient too high, and PvP/PvE have more survivability than can be planned for. Set it too low (as we have now), and Healing Power is worthless.

I find it hard to believe that smart people involved in programming, modeling, and simulation can’t use square root or logarithmic functions effectively in order to set a theoretical upper boundary. Sure, that would make full-cleric gear unnecessary, but maybe Healing Power needs decreasing gains to allow for a higher initial rate of return.

I almost never see them, but when I do, it’s a swift block & report. Every time.
It does mean I have to periodically clean up my block list, but what we have in GW2 is way, way better than how FF14 handles these kittenes.

…Rangers.

Nobody likes them. Even rangers feel bad about playing rangers. :P

No I don-…

No, wait, I do. ;_;

I kid, I kid. They ended up on my bottom two classes (even though I normally play pet classes in other MMOs) because I just couldn’t figure out what to do with them. Spirits feel very “Eh”, Traps are nifty but not so powerful, the pet/shout mechanics are terrible, so sometimes I just get so ticked I run full signet and blow raspberries at my screen. >_>"

But none of that excuses using Longbow 4!
