I hope they do add the WvW skill challenges to the hero point pool. WvW peeps need some love too.
The other hope is that the new maps will have hero challenges at the bases and other locations, so WvW-primary players can flesh out their builds more in their preferred game mode.

Sadly, the only real advice I can give on some the zone-event issue is:

Play Turrent Engi.

At that point, just go to the middle of the event circle, drop turrets, /sleep, occasionally press F to AoE loot. :\

I find Harathi to be a decent spot for daily event completion. Catch it about 15 minutes before Ulgoth, and just follow the train up.

It’s still lame, but at least it’s a steady event string, unlike Snowden and Kessex.

It’s just as worrisome as why we can’t just make butter. It seems that Bandits and Flame Legion have advanced culinary technologies that we must loot them for. They’ve also discovered how to make clothing from nothing!

Don’t forget the chocolate. I’m concerned that bandits and Skritt don’t obtain it from shade-grown sources.

The last thing a bandit hears: “Excuse me, is this free-trade, vegan chocolate?”
=P

So I don’t derail the thread too much, the cloth topic came up during some huge debates on Ascended cloth crafting, after ANet overcompensated for silk. I think the result was having zones like Silverwastes drop more silk in the loot tables and cloth characters getting more cloth gear to use/salvage.

It doesn’t solve the elevated costs of most cloth, which is somewhat disappointing, but people have found ways to farm each kind of cloth.

I’m actually pretty disappointed with how crafting came out, in general. The results are lackluster or heavily grindy, and we’re reliant on drops instead of obtaining the materials in the field. I look at FF14 and realize it has a much more robust crafting system than GW2.

I’ve always wanted something more reliable and predictable for my cloth (the gods of RNG can sometimes be very cruel), so I’m always for something like this.
Mind you if they implement something like this I can see cloth prices dropping, and I’m not sure if ANet would want that or not.

Assume that’s directly a result of economic policy. Which is a shame, because it cheapens crafting. Cloth and leather require drops and salvage to earn.

Unfortunately, I don’t see ANet adding actual cloth faucets in a direct sense. Silverwastes is supposed to be good for it.

Considering condition stacking is something many, many people have asked for, a lot of us are looking forward to at least a few of these changes.

The movement changes I’m wary of, though. That change in mobility is going to be a big shift in wvw/pvp.

I was wondering if pristine fractal relics will now be in the wallet can you still click on them to give 15 fractal relics – I have been doing this to get some quick 20 slot fractal boxes!

It sounds like they are getting rid of Pristine Relics, and converting them to just Fractal Relics.
“We’ve added more currencies to the wallet! When you log in after the update, the following items will be converted to currencies and stored in your wallet:
•Pristine Fractal Relics
•WvW Tournament Claim Tickets
•Geodes
•Bandit Crests

These items will be automatically converted to the new versions of the currencies when the character holding them logs in, so be sure to check each of your characters’ inventories.”

Which means they will probably remove the Pristine Fractal price and convert it to the Fractal Relic equivalent.

There was an additional note added that I read, probably specific to Pristine Fractal Relics. Something along the lines of “use functions will be available on the right side of the interface.” So I think Pristine will still be clickable in some fashion to turn into Fractal Relics.

Damage modifying Traits and Conditions

I think they’re going to keep that on purpose so that Phy damage will still have a huge influence for taking down objects. Or least I hope, because bleeding a fence (while would be funny as hell) is not practical.

It’s in the better interest of Power characters for objects to be treated more like creatures.

Objects (including really large bosses) don’t take critical damage.

tl;dr the other 2.5 pages so…

I’m dubious of the change. I can see why it was done, for making the skills more reliable, but as someone I read from pointed out, it removes Cripple and Chill as counter-play for those abilities.

And it’s not just a PvP issue. Mobility became more important coming toward HoT. …Well, I for one welcome our new Teragriff overlords. (Hyperbole, but that charge needs as many counters as it can get. -_-)

Confusion too fickle. Retaliation just fine?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

The best way to fix retaliation would be to make the damage returned based on a % of the base damage of the skill the enemy player used on you, and that % can increase with power.

So for example, at 1000 power you’d return 15% of the base damage. At 2000 power, you’d return 30% damage. Etc and so forth.

If an enemy uses a skill that does 2000 base damage, and you have 2000 power with retaliation up, the damage returned to the enemy would be 600. Likewise, if a boss in PvE uses a slow but powerful attack on you, then they’d get much more damage returned. At least then the damage would scale relatively well in PvE as well and enemy attack speed will not be as much of an issue as it is now.

I like this idea.

It wouldn’t be less punishing to those with multi-hit spams, but it does have more general utility, especially against slower-attacking monsters.

And the thought of two ’zerkers facing off in PvP, popping Retal and exploding one another is absolutely hilarious.

And if people are asking for gold back spent on circumventing the prior trait system, I’m going to ask for all that silk back I spent on Ascended crafting.

Why? Is something happening with ascended crafting?

No. Sorry to invoke worry. I was being sassy. My apologies.

My point for saying so is, if you pay for a benefit, you get the benefit for however long it lasts. MMOs change, so there is no security in the purchase.
Asking for gold/skill points back when those traits have been in use is kind of, and I normally hate this word getting thrown around, entitled. I have alts that have gone without traits and only a few scant skills because I didn’t pay for them. I’ve been saving my monies and skill points specifically because of the trait changes.

Damaging Conditions - Chill and Fear?

Hm, depending on how the chill/fear works, that could be interesting.
If it’s on application, I don’t see a reason for change.
If it’s per second while under effect, there might not be a reason to change it, but it could be potent if the Reaper finds a way to keep the chill on. Might be based on an invisible debuff? While debuff is active, if chill, do x damage, for y seconds.

But yeah, tricky question worthy of a red post.

It’s unlikely that there is any data to track who spent gold and who unlocked traits via events/etc. They either have to refund everyone gold, even if they didn’t spend any or they refund nobody gold.

Yup. Think of it as a programmer, and consider that this data simply didn’t exist because it wasn’t necessary to store.

The announcement was made over a month ago. More than enough time to walk about, get 65 skill challenges, and the bonus skill points to go with them, have those skill points and hero points ready to convert.

And if people are asking for gold back spent on circumventing the prior trait system, I’m going to ask for all that silk back I spent on Ascended crafting.

Simple stuff here.

Any item scrolls and any spare points left over for each character, are getting converted into currency. The difference between 200 stocked points + 200 scrolls and 400 stocked points is nil. It all becomes 400 spirit shards.

If the skill points have been spent, they’re gone. So if you bought your way into getting skills and traits, no refund.

The number of Hero Points will be based on level (5/level after a certain point, if I recall right), and one for each hero challenge completed. That’s it. As of right now, level 80 and 65 hero challenges is projected to be enough for all core competencies.

That’s not what Donari seems to imply here. What Donari seems to imply is that if you have 200 stocked points + 200 scroll points, you only get 200 spirit shards since 200 “skill challenges” will be subtracted out to become “hero points”

It’s best to look at it from a programming perspective. Because there isn’t a way to differentiate where the points came from without a very pre-planned variable (which there was no reason to code for a launch), it’s easier to take the readily available data:

  1. level
  2. skill challenges completed
  3. scrolls in inventory.

If they’re feeling especially generous, they might (not counting on it) code in a conversion for skills and/or traits that were earned previously and convert the cost into more shards. I severely doubt that will be the case.

What’s more likely to happen is they’ll wipe the utility bars, unhinge the old utilities and traits, insert the new ones, then get players into re-purchasing and organizing their builds.

You’ve done a lot of due diligence. I tip my hat to you.

I’d say the best thing you can do to improve your experience is to communicate:

Make your LFG descriptions short and to the point. “Non-meta”, “all welcome”, “full clear” and so forth will all point out what your goals for the dungeon are while PUGing.

Talk to your group while in the dungeon. Some people have been doing the content for years, but others might be too kitteno speak up themselves. Ask if they know the dungeon, if it’s their first time, and if you’re willing to teach, do so. (Go to Dulfy is not teaching, by the way. >_>) Giving even a brief rundown of the fights can make all the difference.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

I saw this by accident doing map completion on my second account. Didnt bother me, didnt bother anyone on the map so whats the problem?

The problem is either:

1. The OP farmed this for multiple months and now is tired of it so he wants to get it nerfed so people can’t make more money.
or
2. The OP is heavily invested in something that comes out of the bags, or the bags themselves and he wants to stop them from dropping so he can make money.

This is just a disguised pump and dump thread. You bring interest to an item on the forums, people increase the buying of that item, then you sell the 10,000 of that item you bought for dirt cheap the previous week. It’s the fastest way to make money in this game.

Or:

3. The OP tagged a candy mob and got kittened out by the farmers.

If the mobs don’t drop cash, I’ll shrug at it anyway. Items generally only have value on the trading post, so if they drop mainly items, I see no real cause for concern. If the mobs are dropping actual copper and silver, then maybe ANet should clip the rewards to stem inflation.

Otherwise, I don’t see much issue with a bunch of people in their skivvies waving around white-quality weapons at globs of candy corn.

What is Endgame to you guys?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

MMOs focus on whatever their featured end-game is. In most cases, it’s raiding. That’s where they hide the biggest challenges and the best, shiniest gear. Those games often have little else, and if you’re more of a loner, then that endgame (which is only done by 2-10% of the population anyway) gets ignored.

A good MMO will at least give you more to do with your time: minigames, treasure hunts, solo/small team challenges, different races and classes to level, maybe even interesting crafting (which almost never happens). But in the end, an MMO is there as a huge time sink.

GW2 isn’t much different, except for the lack of large group content, and not so much on the minigame front.

Right now, a lot of the busywork has been shifted to Ascended crafting, lucking out on Legendary creation (which will soon change with HoT), achievement farming, and revisiting Living Story season 2.

So, yeah, it doesn’t sound like much. :\

It does feel like you might be confounding “endgame,” “challenge,” and “unique rewards.” It’s not a bad thing, really. GW2 could use some content that feels more challenging, and also some rewards that feel special.

You’ve done a lot, and you might be feeling burnout. Might be time to ease up, check in once in a while (daily login rewards, etc), and otherwise explore a new game or two in the meantime. Or commit to preparing for HoT in some fashion by finishing some world exploration on your alts or some other long term goal.

Whichever you choose, good luck.

I’ll don other things for fun or a joke but won’t run around in them for long if they don’t ICly (in-character’ly) suit the alt. Thus I have one alt that I RP as being a long-suffering guy who makes ends meet by wearing whatever his employers want him to to suit their party themes. The more outrageous outfits are only IC on him of all my alts, and only for a little while during one of his “gigs.” I hope that makes it more clear.

Just previewed it on my Charr, both Male and Female versions.
It is unisex again for Charr, we get the male part with the giant chest wings.

I am very happy that they considered the tail for this costume. it has a nice piece of cloth covering the clipping so it looks like there is a seperate section underneath. Really happy with this.

That being said, I only saw it in the Outfit UI as a preview so I don`t know how much it will clip when running on all 4. Though I suspect this is tested and will not clip, for both the tail and the arms going through the chest wings (fingers crossed)
I’m also really REALLY happy we can turn the helmet off… it is upscaled enormously and it removes the horns, ears and mane.

A-net, it looks cool and from the fashion line trend we`ll be getting the other human gods as well. But could we pretty please also get some Outfits designed for the other races in the future? Something that complements their culture? They should not be left out as all races have carefully crafted cultures that also allow for some very pretty outfits to celebrate them.

Thank you for the Outfit.

+1 for Wolf’s Regalia and Bear’s Regalia
Ooh, and a couple of Charr pieces.
And a Mordrem Slave outfit for the evil, evil Sylvari.

Another one: I’m constantly annoyed by people shortening Claw of Jormag to “Jormag”, and it always makes me wonder how many of them don’t actually know that they’re NOT fighting the Elder Dragon itself, but rather his weakling lieutenant.

What’s wrong with shortening it to “Claw”? It’s even less characters, dagnabbit!

I still hate that it’s pronounced GEORmag. -_-#

Regeneration Stacking in Intensity

I don’t think it would be that bad. They’d obviously reduce the base of it was made to stack and rework how much individual skills give. Allowing it to stack allows the boon to be more flexible. Instead of it being an"trash" boon that people have up quite often in teams, instead you could have less but longer lasting trickle heals or skills intended for more bursary healing over time, such as 12 seconds of 1 stack versus 3 seconds of 4 stacks. And of course, where things stack you immediately see less uptime as each application no longer extends the duration. It would almost without a doubt be more fun to play with.

Agreed. I don’t think Regen as it exists right now would be fit for intensity stacking, but it adds design space available to skills that grant it, especially if we saw it as a facet of enemy synergy, similar to the Mordrem healers.

Jumping puzzles: yuck

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

GW2’s collision detection isn’t well suited for jumping puzzles. And, like most other MMOs, you can only climb what they say you can climb. (Unless it’s bugged.) That means the “impossible” gradient on one procedural (I refuse to call most of them “puzzles”) might actually be climbable, but another “obvious” one constantly slides you off.

Add that onto the OP’s notes above about size and character balance, and it really just doesn’t work well at all. :\

An interesting proposal. I’m not sure if I’m sold on it entirely, but I’m hoping we get some solid discussion on the topic.

sugestions for a good keybind for weapon swap

I put my weapon swap on the ~ key and hit it with my little finger. On my keyboard it’s to the left of the 1 key and convenient to my left hand which is resting on the movement keys.

I do that too~!

If you won a million dollars

Well considering just $100 gets you 8000 gems, I don’t think you need anything near a million dollars, lol…

I guess after that, there’s converting gems to gold for added non-gem-store possibilities. You can get legendaries, or black lion weapon skins.

I won’t get into this “I’d buy a house” or “I’d invest in real estate” because that has nothing to do with the topic. But if I can get “real life” a little, I would definitely get myself a beast of a gaming PC so I can crank them GW2 graphics up to max!

I like the way you think.

Alt leveling and snatching up skill points before they become Hero Challenges. That way, I can’t complain about the upcoming trait change.

I’m grateful for the downtime, actually. I can go play other games and do other things outside of dailies. Because 3 generations of PlayStation games need my attention. >_>

If you won a million dollars

I’m assuming the question means I got a million dollars worth of gems.
Cuz a thousand kilodollars isn’t going into this game for no reason. A megadollar would pay off my house and then some, maybe give me the comfort of part-timing so I could play more. =P

But what would I do with 80 MILLION gems? Buy all the things, of course.
Do the economy a hugely weird favor and buy up all the gold, and thusly, all the Legendary weapons.

How much have you spent on Gems?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

I semi-hold myself to a quasi-subscription (commitment much? :P), so I drop cash frequently, but not enough to have spent more than a few hundred. And right after launch, I was still in the “not going to spend money on a game I already bought arglblargl” phase.

Now, I’m a whale. I admit it. Just not a big one. Anyone with 4+ digits invested in this game loves it WAY more than I do.

I also sent two friends copies when the game went on sale.

Policy on the LFG Tool

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

Hello, I recently ran into a member who was charging party members substantial amounts of gold to run a dungeon with him or her. Once inside the dungeon, he or she demanded us to pay them upwards to four gold for each party member, they went on to state there time wasn’t free. Once we started the dungeon he or she kept pressing the issue wanting four gold from each member that joined the party and of course none of us paid the fee, and he or she refused to run the dungeon and kicked us from the group. This happened to several groups this person created that evening, I reported them for both scamming, and abusing the LFG feature. I just wanted to mention this on the forum, for those members who are not aware because I was asked afterwards, “were we required to pay a party leader to run a dungeon?” by players who were very new to the MMO type gaming environment. I assured them this player was in the wrong, and not to ever pay anything whether its gold or any of forum of currency to anyone outside of the market place.

If this isn’t against the rules, it should be in my opinion. The Dungeon party or LFG feature isn’t a market place, it allows members to group up depending on skill and time (certain groups for certain events) No one should be charging members for gold or anything else to join a group, everyone is equal in the game and no matter your level it’s really all about how you approach the scenario whether or not you will survive the in game encounter.

If my reports were in the wrong, I apologize but I have never encountered this in a game where a member was allowed to charge other members for their time. It certainly doesn’t happen in the other MMO’s I’m involved in, sure you can state a member needs a certain item and allow that person to have it in a party, but other than that it’s really just about the overall group gaming experience.

Path/dungeon selling isn’t against the rules, but neither is it supported. If the seller was open about selling the dungeon run, then I would say read the LFG more carefully, until the policy on dungeon selling changes.
If the seller did not advert that the LFG was a dungeon run, I would feel that was against policy, as that player was extorting the party. In that case, the reports were warranted.
