Custom Outfits for Fluid Gameplay

The idea comes up every few weeks when they release a new outfit (instead of a skin set; arglblargl 1stworldrage qq).

Custom outfits feel like a good idea. It might be complicated when trying to account for dye channels, though.

leveling is painful

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

Strangely enough, I find the opposite is true, and this is coming from several other MMOs.

GW2 gives XP for everything, and the big chunks come from reputation quests. If I don’t feel like doing one (because it’s gimmicky or no events are going on) I skip it. I don’t craft, except to get the low-level food and oil/stone/dust for +20% experience. I can go anywhere, do what I want, and get experience. I don’t even have to be in a leve-appropriate zone. That open-ended play is fantastic.

Comparatively, WoW requires I slough through level-appropriate zones (usually a few levels ahead) just to get decent XP rewards. If I’m not surfing an entire level’s worth of rest-XP, each kill and quest is a huge chore. Heirlooms are giving me at least 20-40% of my experience boosts, and it’s still a bore, because I’m funneled into my ‘choice’ of two zones and storyline paths. By the time I finish a chunk of the zone, I’ve passed the boundary of level progression and need to move on.
Alternately, I have to dungeon grind. Which means queues, unless I want to bore myself with tanking or healing. It might be easy, but it’s boring and unrewarding.

FF14 is roughly the same as WoW, except I can do levequests. Fantastic in concept, and I farm Venture tokens like no tomorrow, but there are a total of 4-6 quests in a zone, and repeating them until I level 5 times to open up a class quest or new set of leves is, again, kind of a chore. At least with FF14, I can level once or twice, pick something else to do, and work on that.
Or, again, dungeon-grind.

And WildStar? Pff, killed me before I even made it to dungeons. It kept all the “fun” stuff behind level 15. Which, yeah, I can see how GW2 can get accused, after the NPE. Locking down weapon skills and utilities and traits until later was a terrible decision.

Rauderi.8706

There are some people who post on this forum who have admitted they haven’t played in a year and a half, or more, don’t like the game, yet still post to say why they don’t like the game on threads discussing the current state of the game. Another person I saw posted to say he hasn’t played in months and only posts to argue with people who like the game.

Just be aware that negative posters might not be current players by months, or years, but for some reason can’t let go.

And there have been several people that posted often saying they no longer play, hate the game, constantly bash everything about the game, and say they will never play again that I added to my friends list out of curiosity. Many of them are logged in a lot for people that quit.

It just goes to show that some people just like the attention they get from being negative.

That is hilarious. XD

OP, don’t take the qq of a few disappointed haters who can’t let go. (Could you imagine those people in relationships? Yeesh! I’d call the cops.) GW2 has the best community I’ve encountered in an MMO. There might not be “a lot to do,” in a formal sense, but there’s a ton of goals short and long you can dig into, once you get past the notion that “raids and trinity play are required.”

This game needs harder Content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

So, it’s not about the content, it’s about the rewards.
Good to know, because I never see the cries for “need hard content” paired with “no, it’s okay, I don’t need more/better/unique loot.”

At least call it what it is, instead of the existing title: “Please reward hard content properly, then make more hard content.” A bit long, it’s as concise as it needs to be.

Snark aside, yes, the devs need to reconsider what rewards are appropriate for easier, zergy content versus their harder skill-based (read as Annoying One-Hit KOs) achievements. Aetherpath, high level fractals, quickdeath mordypup maze, maybe explorable dungeons, are the kinds of things that need better rewards, instead of RNG box drops that gives “two blues and a green.”

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

Completing loot dependent collections is a nightmare.

This. I realize those collections are optional, and that the items are usually available on the trading post, but the uber-rare exotics aren’t much different than precursors at that point. We’re going to start needing collections to finish other collections, just to get in the realm of something that feels fair.

When we get gold, it should be a tool to bypass an amount of relative nuisance and impatience. It should not be a number to hoard for one once-in-a-year glorious burst of success, nor should it be a number used to recursively gain more number so that the former statement can be achieved.
That’s not even intended as a dig on TP barons or other players’ forms of gold-accrual, because studying the trading post or organizing dungeon runs is work, and that seems like an acceptable risk/skill vs reward layout.

I’m not against these kinds of items dropping in the way that we are (unfortunately) used to, but the desire for alternate methods of acquisition extends beyond precursors. There should be the long-but-definite path to every unique reward, more toward the sentence “doing this task (skillfully or enough times) should yield this reward.”

"Reaper" name feedback [not merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Reaper is not two words mashed together.

As a matter of fact it is two words mashed together.

er : person occupationally connected with <furrier> <lawyer> …………one that does or performs (a specified action) <batter> —sometimes added to both elements of a compound <builder-upper>

reap : to cut with a sickle, scythe, or reaping machine

When the two words are smashed together, it means “one who reaps, or one who uses a reaper”

Just one more example of uninformed posters, making uninformed claims, I guess.

Technically, that’s a root word and a suffix, not two words.
Whereas Dragonhunter is actually a compound word.

Anyway, I’ll agree with the commentary above. Reaper is expected and safe, but it’s also a good fit for what is expected of Necromancer and gives the Death Shroud another use. (I don’t really use it normally, so.. yeah.)

I’ll let the actual Dragonhunter name thread stand as my list of reasons why it doesn’t work.

Charr need a rework !

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

No thank you, while im a big fan of the GW1 charr, i much prefer the Charr in GW2, its why i have 11 of them… I do wish we could toggle standing up, but they dont need to be reworked. I like the way they run, i like the way they stand, i do not however like the flame legion charr at all, i find them hideous.

Im sure more than one of the fellow charr lovers will come along shortly and explain why the charr look the way they do. Because this isnt the first thread about it, and it wont be the last. If i had the links for the information i would post it myself.

I’d like the option, sure. Coming from WoW, where the hunched look is totally en vogue, I missed being able to see what my armor looked like. It wasn’t anything overdramatic like “ugly” or “hideous,” just disappointing. I get the same thing now, where Charr-hunch hides my armor and makes anything leg-related a huge disappointment.

Operative word being option. If, by some minuscule chance, Charr started walking upright and having uncanny-valley mushed faces and maximum-of-three fur patterns like in ArcheAge, I’d be very upset.

Can we kill Trahearne already?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

I did a poll on reddit a long time back. It seems that far more people who started the game as a Sylvari liked Trahearne than people who started the game as other races. This is because he was there pretty much from the beginning and we knew who he was. His entrance into the story for other races is relatively abrupt.

I started as a Sylvari and so have no problem with Trahearne. My only real issue with him was when he said “this won’t end well” and they’ve removed that from the game.

That actually baffles me. Playing through the Sylvari storyline, a lot of people had a disjointed experience:

  • Help get Caladbolg back. Somewhat meet Trahearne.
  • dotdotdot, join Order.
  • Meet Trahearne again.
  • “Hey Trahearne! I remember you! I got you Caladbolg!”
  • “Hi. I am pleased to meet you.” As if it were his first time.

It’s jarring and disappointing, as if Trahearne couldn’t be bothered to remember the character who did the Pale Tree a huge favor.

A Solution to the Berserker Meta

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Slow dps players down by making them deal with content more carefully, but do not stop them from doing it.

If dungeons had been designed with that in mind, there’d be far fewer complaints. But the statement is 100% correct.

And full-zerk is only really relevant in dungeons anyway. Many world bosses are better faced with PVT gear, and competitive metas operate completely differently.

So, really, the only “fix” is to double-back on dungeons, examine how rewards are given and how some of the content works. Otherwise, moving forward, it’s mostly going to be world bosses and instanced story content.

Ensign pointed out above that the ratio is running proper, and that the usual online sources have a code error due to some recent changes.

Also, the gem→gold exchange has an obnoxious rounding error that aims to cheat paying players out of remaining silver. (Seems to me, if you want to reward cash-paying players, you put the rounding error on the gold→gem converts…)

I always asked this in WoW; why would killing this boss and that blabla keep the area as it is? Just a problem we have in MMOs. Live with it.

Frankly, they should keep all content as it is and put phases in for new content if they must. Cataclysm ruined the old world in more ways than one. I absolutely hate what it did. Last thing I want to see is a revamp like that in any other game and have it similarly ruin so much content.

I used to like the phased approach. It allowed story progression in a zone, and you saw visible changes.

I liked it until I wanted to play with a lower-level player, like a friend or my brother, and couldn’t even be seen. I’ve since changed my opinion on phasing. :\

Gold>Gems vs Gems>Gold

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

My confusion is that it doesn’t seem to be 72%, the difference between gold>gems and Gems>gold is slowly widening. It was 64% at the beginning of the year, and is now 56% or was last night. Even if they were fixed percentages, 72% and a 15% transaction fee, you’d expect them to be a fixed percentage apart at all times. Instead the Gems>Gold is plateauing while the Gold>Gems is moving away from it. That’s what I’m wondering about.

The reason it looks like the gap is widening is that the absolute difference is going to increase between high and low. 72/100 (18) is a lot different from 720/1000 (180).

Untill ANet tell us just how it will work, rather than just vague ideas of how it will work. I have to admit, I don’t really understand what’s going on with it all.

My hope is that utilities will be available as they have normally. Currently, skill challenges and utilities open up at 13. It’s.. kind of late, to be honest, especially when you get all three of them by level 19.

I shudder to think that they’d delay opening hero challenges at 20, when the whole trait/skill system opens.

The number of skill points/hero challenges will probably be made smaller, first of by cutting them from low level areas.

That is a legit concern. :\
If Hero Points, skills, and traits, start at 20, then it’s going to be REAL boring getting there, and there wouldn’t be a need for challenge points in starting zones.

Alternately, I think they might keep utilities opening up at … ye gods, when do they open? I haven’t leveled from 1 without a 20-scroll since NPE started.

Suffice it to say, if they delay utility options until 20 so they can all be opened with hero points, that will make the 1-20 stretch more boring than it already is.

Perfect time to nerf Precision!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

You seem to be agreeing with me entirely (I’m not particularly calling for a Precision nerf). I’m confused. I’m more concerned about stuff going forwards than the probably-soon-to-be-obsolete dungeons.

Ferocity nerf is interesting – but the solution to the “problem” with triggering Sigils is a really simple one – if Precision gets nerfed, up the proc rate of the Sigils accordingly.

There are quite a few sigils and traits that are simply “on crit.” 100% of the time, so long as the crit happens. Can’t raise the success rate if crit chance/precision gets lowered.

Other games usually have decreasing gains on critical chance, but I don’t see that in GW2. Rather than devaluing Precision, it’s up to player responsibility to stop using it after they hit that 80%, or they waste gear points on it.

As it stands, I’m of the mind to see where enemy designs move going forward before mucking with a general thing like Precision, which impacts all game modes. Not to say it should be ignored, but observed until action is needed to balance it. Even then, unless it becomes a huge issue in WvW or PvP, expect them to tweak creature values first.

As for “OMG CLOSE THREAD”, er, bro, hate to break it to you, but “PEOPLE HAVE OPINIONS I DO NOT LIKE!” isn’t a reason to close a thread.

Also, more importantly, the issue is what will be valid in HoT content (this is the HoT forum), not what was valid in dungeons. Unless changes to either gear, or enemy behaviour are made, it seems likely to remain Zerker, and that’s not good long-term. However I suspect that enemy behaviour and the condition changes will help quite a bit with making PvE actually more diverse.

“Gear diversity” and “solving the zerk problem” threads are all over the forums. It’s a shame the legit search function is broken, because otherwise, you could have found one of those threads.
Assuming they haven’t been closed, like almost every other ranty anti-zerk thread. I don’t even care for the zerk-meta, but I have yet to see anything new. So yeah, /thread is warranted.

Flipside, I’ve been asking for balance passes on older enemy numbers so that zerk isn’t so prevalent. Higher Toughness, lower HP. Bigger cleaves, faster but less damaging auto attacks. Most mobs, especially in dungeons, just aren’t designed to support much else besides the zerk-meta. Not slamming the efficiency experts on it, it’s just a fact and facet of design that needs changing to keep end-game play interesting.

And we’re starting to see some of that leading up to HoT. Different Mordrem mobs with vastly different Toughness/HP values and varying CC tactics to negate them. The work on breaking condition caps is highly encouraging, since condition builds’ greatest barrier is finally getting removed. That alone is enough.

As it is, condi builds sub-focus on critical rate/precision so they can trigger sigil and trait effects. It’s not a good time to call for nerfing them when they finally become a reasonable choice. (You could say nerf Ferocity, but they’ve already done that once and the qq would be epic.)

Also a solution I support. “Closest incomplete hero challenge in the current zone” should be the logic for it. Keeping it zone-limited means a player won’t accidentally be shuffled off to places too high for him. And I’m okay with them being account bound to help with alts while the main farms WvW.

PvP gets everything unlocked for free as soon as this launches.
This issue is limited to the WvW populace.

There are some people who don’t like WvW and will prefer to level via PvP and tomes. Those players may want to transition their PvP-80s into PvE, so a similar option should be made available to them. (Assuming we wish to reward all play modes respectfully.)

Which makes me like phys’ teleport scroll more. It can be a competitive-play reward that extends into a PvE shortcut.

I thought “Dragon Knight” would be something better.

It is. It’s a pretty awesome anime from my youth.
…Don’t actually look that up. >_>

Valkyrie

This class is straight up Lenneth Valkyrie from Valkyrie Profile.

Nibelung Valesti!

Great, now I have to make a Chronomancer named Lezard Valeth. :P

Perfect time to nerf Precision!

Gear diversity is already a thing.
Outside of dungeon instances.

PvP has sufficient counterplay between assault builds and bunker builds, WvW has its own preferred tactics that often smear Berserker-geared builds, depending on play style.

And a huge chunk of open world content is better off using Soldier’s gear over anything with Precision or Ferocity, because huge bosses like Tequatl and Shatterer are coded as objects can can’t be crit on.

So, if this thread is just another anti-zerk-dungeon, anti-speedrun thread, it’s probably time to close it. :\

Hero Points & old characters: breach of trust

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

There’s a huge difference. The main one being:
1) World completion does absolutely nothing for you mechanically, the only thing it’s used for is legendary weapons, which aren’t particularly special other than for their skins. Stat changing is kind of nice, but without Sigil changing, it can’t be used particularly well. It’s still cheaper to just get an ascended copy for every type that you use. If I’m correct, almost everyone should be fine with grinding for skins.

Secondary, but much less relevant point: They already had to go into the PvE world for map completion, and for far more than the WvW side of it included. It would only be an apt comparison in that regard if more than half the hero points could only be acquired in WvWvW, and you needed to play both of them to unlock your traits/skills.

Tertiary point: You’re generalising PvE as a single entity. But within that sphere there are also other playstyles which don’t include map completion in their purview who suffer from it. It was possible to earn your traits from playing dungeons/fractals under the second system.

This doesn’t just hurt WvWvW players, but every single play style other than; Map Completion, 100% sPvP (Or some combination of the 3), and 100% City Roleplayers.

Humm… Actually, World completion gives a ton of exp, a ton of craft mats, stuff like BLC Keys, Exotics, etc. Mechanically its a very rewarding activity. Exploring the World is fun… If people prefer to run around in packs from point to point, ok WvW for them, but i don’t see much the point of people complaining because they got through the game without playing the vast majority of it.
NOT TO MENTION that for over a year you didn’t have Scrolls of Knowledge to use, and no one complained then.

I also am uncomfortable with the thought that stuff people already unlocked will have to be unlocked again, but then again masteries seem completely based on unlocking the same thing twice, so why are you even complaining.

Hey here’s a thought. They could actually add a repeatable mastery track specifically for WvW (like there’s masteries specific to the new map, and others for the original map, so make another for the mists) that adds 1 Hero Point on completion (which replaces gaining 1 SP every level even after you hit 80).

people keep saying things like this, but keep in mind they wanted limited amounts of hero points, and it to be primarily limited by the number of skill challenges and your level.

Then make a cap, and make it so that if you hit it by any means, the hero challenges would stop giving you anything beyond map completion ticks.

That’s a rather elegant solution.

It’s something I was thinking of earlier. If PvP rank and WvW level were counted in some limited fashion as hero point rewards, it would be a decent way to reward competitive players a way to sync better with PvE. Maybe a 1:3 ratio? I’m not sure how high WvW levels go, but one of my guildies said she had over a thousand so.. That’s definitely going to need a cap.

If there’s concern that too many hero points would go out, just make the cap for all competitive points (PvP and WvW total) 65, no matter what ratio is used. That way, those who invested in tomes/gold/scrolls don’t lose so much of their progress for playing outside of PvE.

Valkyrie would be my favourite choice. I also quite like Vindicator.

Honestly the way it looks makes it feel like a kind of angelic guardian. Which is why Valkyrie is my top pick. Another name of a similar theme could also work. But i honestly dont see how the spec relates to dragonhunter in any way, shape or form.

I have a hunch that they avoided names like Valkyrie because its a gear prefix. But i dont think thats a good reason personally.

Maybe they can just change Valkyrie to the specialization name and make the gear prefix Dragonhunter? :P

Though, Valkyrie is too gender-loaded to really work.

Their elite is called Dragon’s Maw so maybe it has some dragon flavor in there, I guess we’ll find out more tomorrow.

Had this on another thread, but I’m wondering if there’s an element of Glint in the Dragonhunter’s theme. But, to call it something like Dragon Knight would be skewed, since it could indicating following dragons.

Is it sad that we feel the need to workshop this?
Yes.

Let’s do it.

In the very least, I hope to see something represented in game that defines the Dragonhunter in lore. It’d be easier to accept. Seeing as the Dragonhunter is about ranged support, I could see Logan being pansy enough for it.

Hah no, not Logan. Most likely Braham will find Eir’s bow, or at least be inspired by her to take up archery himself. Thus, guardian with bow.

I figured it was more:
Brahm is friends with Rox. In a moment of desperate love, he learns to use her bow, before her gigantic anime eyes close forever.
And then, Rox descends into the Mists, where Rytlock-sempai finds her and lets her be with him for all eternity~

Taimi is a…um…

So, to answer your question, I can’t.

“Dragonslayers? Pah, any fool can call himself a dragonslayer. Most get themselves killed within a few days, which is probably for the best. No, the real skill isn’t in walking into the dragon’s cave and challenging it to a duel—it’s in tracking it across a hundred miles of wilderness, sneaking up close and killing it before it even knows you’re there.”

Dragon is a bit of a loaded word in the GW universe. I’d rather they have kept it out of the specialization name.

Unfortunately, similar words are already in use in some fashion:

Warden by the Sylvari.
Seraph and similar angelic terms by Humans.
Zealot by extension of one of Guardian’s existing specs.
Valiant again by Sylvari.

Maybe it’s not too late for Paragon. >_>

so far chronomancy is still the coolest/best specialization, SPACE AND TIME FTW
as for the name "Dragon Hunter’’ I personally dont understand why, they keep saying how the guardian is wielding the ’’Light’’ over and over and how he mastered the powers of the Light, than why would you call it ’’Dragon’’ hunter, dragon’s have nothing to do with the light, it should be named "Arch Angel, Paladin’’
something more divine

Curious thought that hit me a moment ago: what if the Dragonhunter thing stems from lore they’re going to put into the game? What if the unresolved thread about Glint’s egg leads to a Guardian like Logan or Brahm taking a path that uses light (one of Glint’s domains) to battle the other elder dragons?
