I would have gone with The Acrobat.

The specialization reminds me of Diana The Acrobat from the old Dungeon and Dragons cartoons.

Yes I know, thief has acrobatics already, just that I think this specialization fits better with the name.

There is one way I know of that you could be someone’s princess. The Skritt King in Skrittsburgh needs a Queen. All he has right now is a Consort. Why don’t you mosey over there and flutter your eyelashes at him. See what he has to say.

I mean, he’s fairly predictable that way.

B-But a timed dodge is skillful play. >_>
Conversely, should a player be rewarded for wasting a dodge?

I’m not going to say yes or no just yet, but it’s the inverse question that’s necessary to ask.

And no, I’m not one of those elitists or tryhards. I suck at dodging. I ‘waste’ them all the time. :P

Take a look at it. Mesmer, Necromancer, Guardian, Elementalist and Revenant (and now …..Thief) can use Staff….then why not give it to everybody now, Warriors probably also need it…So many classes can use it and only…ONLY, Warrior and Engineer can use the Rifle, it would have been WAY more interesting to give the Rifle to the Thief and have some variations between the weapons used in the game.

Give a rifle to Thief because they lack a long range option. Hit foes from 1200 range with hard hitting single target attacks, then use stealth, rinse repeat. I can’t be the only one that sees a problem here, long range + stealth is easily abusable. Unless they made it so you get the revealed debuff for as long as you got a rifle equipped and for some time after you swap, a rifle would be way too hard to balance.

I dunno, my thought on rifle-thief has one skill:

[BANG!]: Range 1500, does absurd damage. Alerts all targets within 3000, applies Revealed for 30 seconds. Taunts all enemies in range 3000 for 30 seconds.

Anyone else underwhelmed by the"Elite" specs?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Rauderi.8706

Okay, this deserves less snark than my previous. Seems you’re really trying to reconcile some of the hype.

Revenant/Herald: Considering that I had a character name planned with this exact word in it, I think I’m cool with it. I wanted my Rev to be a call to something greater. That greater happens to be Glint, but that’s okay.
B+

Warrior/Berserker: An expected name, though I wasn’t expecting more torch/condi leanings. Still, I’m excited about it, even if my expectation and the concept don’t quite align.
B

Guardian/Dragonhunter: I’m so underwhelmed, they should be able to see the end of it in Australia somewhere. It’s more than 46 pages worth of “anything but dargonhurrdurr” as a name. The bow and traps don’t sync well, and the Virtues are all over the place. It’s very muddled.
F; see me after class.

Thief/Daredevil: A unique name and interesting take on “keep thief alive by not dying.” The effects on evade add a skill component to their gameplay. I know lots were hoping for stealthy-sniper-rifle, but Daredevil actually impresses.
A

Mesmer/Chronomancer: An extension of glamour and manipulations, Chronomancer is sort of expected, though Mesmer pulls it off an in interesting way. I was a little ‘wah’ about the long cooldown on F5 during the beta, but the wells felt good, and shield skills worked out for party support. I’m looking forward to this one.
A

Necromancer/Reaper: Another ‘expected’ one, but I actually had fun with it. Maybe not everyone played this on a male Charr, but man, those shouts are more visceral with that particular voice actor. And having some actual area effect adds some depth to Necro play. Eager for this one as well.
A

Elementalist/Tempest. A little out of left field, I can see where the name came from. Add on that Fresh Air gives synergy to Air and Tempest, and it fits a little better. Horn is an odd choice, but the skills were interesting. The shouts were …kinda dumb as things to call out in combat. Overall, certainly willing to use this spec.

Dragonhunter, Berserker, Daredevil… who is coming up with these names?!? Dragonhunter and Berserker are so generic, might as well have been from any lame fantasy game. Daredevil.. someone watched the show too much!

Cribbing a name off Warcraft and then criticizing originality.
I can’t even. >_>

Granted, Dragonhunter is lame. 46 pages of lame. Literally.
Berserker is.. expected. I’m not sure the execution fits the concept of the “berserker,” but it’s a Tyrian twist on it.
Daredevil is unique. It was a word long before the comic book character. (Though the staff thing may be taking the tongue-in-cheek a little too far.)

And Bioware didn’t invent the use of “Herald” or “Reaper”, so that complaint is pretty stupid. I’ll admit that I’m a bit peeved that Herald doesn’t get a warhorn, but the name itself is good.

Agreed.

Though, funny thing, for the Charr I had planned as a Revenant, he had “Herald” in his name, long before I knew it was a thing for the class.

To answer the question: Nope.

Except Dargonhurrdurr. That thing needs to head back to the drawing board.

Side note, taking Fresh Air with Tempest is actually a really good idea. Definitely an Air attunement boost.

But eh, it’s all opinion. If they fit your playstyle, yeah, you might get excited. If they fill a niche you don’t care for, then yeah, you’ll be “meh” about it.

Except for Dargonhurrdurr. Srsly, send Braham home to learn a real Guardian elite.

The entitlement has to stop somewhere.

It’s about me being able to show I was there for something.

So, you’re entitled to have unique, one-time-only items? Seems a bit hypocritical.

I’ve got those wings, and the other holographic ones. Quite happy with both of them, and I wouldn’t qq one bit if newer players had a chance at them. With, say, another Dragon Bash festival.

No not entitled at all lol It’s because I was actually there!!!! PLEASE I implore you to read what the concept of the living story actually was…

I know what it was. It also failed, for the precise reason that players were paying for content that disappeared. Season 2 handled it better in that regard. (Even if the writing tanked…)

They should not rerelease old items in my opinion.

It is a symbol of how long someone has been playing and that they were able to get it.

Now if you lost them my mistake then yes you should be able to get more

And you’re wrong.
I know, it’s hard to have an opinion be wrong, but you are.
Especially when you contradict yourself. If you’re a poor custodian of your “uniqueness,” you don’t deserve it. I couldn’t re-get my Head Start cap back, even though I had it when the wardrobe switched over. :*(

As someone who has the shattered wings and went through careful pains to make sure they transmuted properly, I couldn’t care less about my “specialness” if someone else can enjoy them.

With the new Lion’s Arch in place, hopefully we’ll see festivals more consistently, and then everyone can get a chance at the rewards.

There are plenty of items you can get at any time, blame yourself if you need exactly this item.

It’d be great if the cores came back. Else there’d be no point in them still being tradeable (which was silly to start with) and the Mystic Forge would be better off removing the recipe. Which would then probably make having the skin itself kind of worthless, so it should be removed. It chains down from there. Maybe my Watchwork Pick (which I bought the first time around, it should never have come back) could finally stop bleeding account-bound Blade Shards, since the only use for them is that backpack.

…And if any of the above upset you, maybe don’t hinge your self-worth on the exclusivity of digital property.

Non-zerk will.. well, half will kew about the lameness that provokes a dungeon-zerk meta.
Others will point out that PvP has bunkers, so defensive stats are for PvP.
Someone will inevitably point to that cornercase Lupi video. Yawn.

Honestly, Toughness is the best defensive stat we have. It’s good, it works, it’s solid.
Vitality is.. meh. Soft counter to condition damage and burst. Multiplies in effectiveness with Toughness.
Healing Power is terrible and needs reconsideration. There’s a half-dozen threads that have investigated options.

Highest price dye:

Sell order from before the “outrage”: 999g
Buy order from before the “outrage”: 715g
Number of sell orders: 4
Number of buy orders: 418

Seller order from after the “outrage”: 1051g
buy order from after the “outrage”: 420g
Number of sell orders: 4
Number of buy orders: 416

Well for all the whining it seems the sell orders have actually INCREASED in price, and ONE person withdrew a single overpriced buy order…

Yep the market is in shambles now…

So far as the dye market, I figure the high end is going to be the obsessive collectors and very rich with little else to spend on. There are plenty of colors that are usable without being that specific color that sells for 1000g.

If anything, I’m surprised the UnID dye market dropped 20 silver recently, well before the account booster packs and birthday dyes started dropping.

A question to our community at large

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

I don’t do dungeons and don’t care about the meta. From my point of view you are as OCD and fixated on stats as the most rabid Meta Warrior. Let it go. No one is forcing you to join the meta groups and play like them. Make your own groups and play how you like. Why in the ever loving world do you feel the need to dictate to them how they play the dungeons and what stats they use to do it. Play your own way and stop worrying about how other people play!

Fleshy’s right, yo. The community ‘solved’ the problem a long time ago.
If it’s still a problem, it’s because people against the meta don’t like the snobby elitism from the meta, and the meta don’t like the ‘entitlement’ and loss of gold/hour from the non-meta.

It cannot be reconciled. The best we can hope for is other content (not 3-year-old dungeons) to promote better gear balancing and the devs to augment the weaker stats.

to be honest, it was pretty apparent that we were getting staff for a while. and staff’s not a bad weapon – if they do the skills/traits/mechanic right, it could be incredible.

really what matters is the details, which we’ll be seeing later this week

(plus, while dragonhunter didn’t make sense with guardian mechanically or thematically, staff thief certainly makes sense thematically)

Heh, don’t mind my teasing. I’m mostly prodding at all the kittenhurt over the staff datamining. Sniper sounded cool, but I’m hoping for Cat Burglar (so I can play yet another Charr, haw!), though I heard the rumor of Daredevil? That sounds entertaining.

It’s a less fun alternatively, but probably something ANet is more likely to implement.

I dunno, with Berserker getting improved Physical skills, maybe Necro will get a future elite that has improved Minion skills. Which look better. And float so they don’t get stuck on the scenery. Actually, it’d be pretty hot to have spirits following around instead of the ucky things we have now.

Yeah, I agree.

Seems to me that it should either be made more valuable than it currently is, in combat, or should just be provided as standard to everyone.

One of the things they got rid of, in WoW, three years ago, were talents that boosted speed, as they felt they didn’t offer enough to make them worthwhile choices, compared with the other talents on offer.

So, basically, red herrings.

Of course, they have mounts in WoW and speed boosts are often used as an excuse for why mounts aren’t needed in this game and/or would make it unbalanced.

Get rid of, or standardise the speed boosts and mounts would no longer be a threat to (supposed) balance.

I’m sure WoW’s nixing of some speed boosts was also based on PvP. When flag-running is a thing, static speed improvements and slipping root effects made Druid the go-to for grab-and-go. Not to say those speed boosts are gone.
They gave increased speed to stealthed rogues. -_-#

To a degree, the speed boost issue in GW2 led me to one of my favorite (now nerfed, sigh) builds with my warrior. Once they fix banner cooldowns, I’ll be right as rain, but I mostly appreciated that speccing for swiftness led me to a more support-oriented build.

On making Healing Power Worthwhile.

Just thought of another way Healing Power could be put to good use, and it would still encourage skillful play. We just recently got a stamina nerf via Vigor’s 50% reduction.

So I wonder what it would be like if stamina recovery got a bonus based on Healing Power. Crazy thought, and probably overpowered, but it’s worth thinking about.

I’m pretty glad I seem to have steered a wink-nudge silliness thread into a lore-filled discussion! I’m actually hoping that ANet at least scratches the surface around the time the outfit comes out.

Aaand, to show my age, I’m reminded of a character who fights her end-boss in a wedding dress. http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-22/art/sf-emilia-wedding-dress.jpg

Huge amounts of tl;dr and qq about “entitled players” and such, but there’s a thread that covers a lot of good ideas and general frustration with RNG rewards.

I recommend skimming, unless you have time for 21 pages.

Silly. Swashbucklers don’t use staves.
Which is what Thief is getting.

Eh…I still thank the content has to warrant the need for HP on the Meta (if that is still the topic of this thread), but I do want to spit ball. Regardless is the devs read the threads(which they do), reading constructive thoughts is fun, mostly.

I haven’t been able to read a lot of the HP to vitality merge post/threads, so If some one could bullet point one real quick(I did see the one w/ 1% HP per 100 Vit, so not that one).

What if HP was rolled into toughness as a sub stat (Ferocity->Crit Dmg) and it could be called Recovery? This way, players/classes with healing abilities, don’t have to trait to HP, but players can trait to receive MORE, when someone(including themselves) pops
a healing ability.

Spit balling
-Players trait for Toughness and Recover(y) increases by a static amount/percentage; “recover” better than those who do not.
-Tougher player=better self heal
-Tougher player=better incoming heal
-Tougher player=better/more defense against conditions(never thought conditions((or crit dmg for that matter)) should trump bring as much power as possible, but that’s just how I perceive it)
-Tougher player=better effect from regen(literally can’t synergize any better w/ “recovery”) but doesn’t effect any other boons, or boon duration of regen

Problems
-Rework to toughness (to accommodate the new secondary effect)
-Rework to all gear involving HP
-All the reworks effect on PvP/WvW(honestly didn’t think to deep into effects)

Like I said, this isn’t thoroughly thought out, so feel free to point out flaws, tweaks or let me know if this idea has already floated around. I did probably forget some kitten I had thought about while typing, but I’m checking in from work, so…you know.

P.S. Q:Shouldn’t you be working at work? A: Shut up, ain’t kitten to do today.

Toughness is the huge defensive workhorse, so it doesn’t need any more utility or power. Out of the defense stats, it’s the most desirable.

Vitality is seen as a counter to condition damage, and Toughness magnifies survivability. “Effective Hit Points,” as it were. If your toughness mitigates, for example, 40% of more damage than normal, then you’re only taking 60% in comparison, which means your effective HP per 100 per 10 points of Vitality is actually worth 166 HP. (100/60%)

Healing Power is a sustain component which counters both direct and condition damage. Its potency is again magnified by Toughness. But, it’s also the weakest and least desired defensive stat. It’s limited to a degree by Max HP, as you can’t overheal, so timing and amount of healing is important to avoid wasting it. Most fights are by attrition, so healing is designed not to let you go on gaining HP forever (unless you’re boss-awesome with dodges/blinds/all that good stuff), so it reinforces the weakness of Healing Power.

Vitality is mostly a passive starting point, and Healing Power grants a marginal +15-20% boost to healing numbers if one is really focused. That’s why I’m more inclined to add Healing Power to Vitality, so the combination feels more potent.

Got the small 800 gem version. Sadly, RNG made it not amount to much.
Notables:
One semi-rare dye worth less than a gold. All the others sold for 2 silver or went to guildies for free. (I did get the added bonus of feeling benevolent, though.)
Two ticket scraps.
Nifty XP/Killstreak booster.
Worthless booster conversion powder. -_- No longer needed since boosters are consolidated.

While the actual sale value was good (dye pack, keys, etc), the actual results were not worth 10$ worth of gems.
