“I’m finding companies should sell access to forums,
it seems many like them better than the games they comment on.” -Horrorscope.7632
Here I go again, bumping a topic from page 10~
So… how has it been lately? I haven’t logged in for over 2 weeks now, there are several reasons why I don’t feel like playing (I only read the forum) and the warhorn audio change is one of them. Is it still the same or was it meanwhile replaced/ninja patched after all this time?
And if it didn’t get replaced: Did the players get used to it? Almost nobody writes about it lately. Maybe everyone gave up since we never got an official response to this..? oO
It was replaced with a softer, less farty noise. Not “good” by any stretch of the imagination, but tolerable again. Sadly, Howler is still ‘broken’.
I like to do pvp, is engineer a good class for that? And are there any benefits to picking one class over the other for pvp?
YES!
This applies to pretty much any MMO. In Cataclysm WoW (the best WoW) Sub Rogue and frost mage were the best in general with blood death knights and protection paladins being the best flag carriers. Warriors apart from some niche functions were bad for PvP but were the best class for raiding and dungeons.
My bad, didn’t mean to ask about picking one class over the other I meant race. Are there any racial benefits like humans in WoW have a pvp trinket as their racial and taurens have a stun, anything like that?
In PvP, racial utility skills are disabled. In PvE, most of them don’t get used, as they lack synergy with existing options. Like the Charr battle shout isn’t actually a “Shout,” so it doesn’t get bonuses that would normally happen from Guardians or Warriors, or any support gear that would normally buff them.
My main is a Charr Warrior. Though I use the term “main” very loosely. I play all classes for various reasons and builds. Even “builds” is a little loose, since the main reason to go through the trouble of making multiples is mostly for gear space.
I find myself more fond of Elementalist. It’s a highly versatile profession with a good skill cap. (And after some of the warrior nerfs, warrior’s not as much fun to play. :\)
The issue isn’t with the Druid itself … it’s with the way it’s healing is extreme compared to other classes.
Put it another way … if the amount that a Druid heals are going to be the normal, necessary amount for raiding or doing HoT content, then this will be the first must-have CLASS this game has ever had to do content. That’s a massive departure from the concept that exists now and frankly, a huge disappointment for me.
If other classes exhibited the same ability to heal as much as Druid does, there wouldn’t be a problem here. I’m not sure they do, unless of course you SPECIFICALLY trait/gear for healing, which means you don’t compete well with Druid. I’ve made some assumptions in saying these things but I don’t think I’m all that far off.
I expect that the heals that come off of Druid’s nigh-constant healing skills will be very small per activation. So basically, Druid will be a small-area regen that doesn’t conflict with the Regen boon, similar to how a healing guardian works.
Healing Power still scales for crap.
Better tell the metabattle admins that this build sucks then.
The ultimate problem with Druid:
Healing Power still scales for crap.
I think Ranger/Thief would be interesting. There’d have to be some nice synergy there.
oo yeah, “opening strike when you gain stealth” comes to mind
the Critical Strikes line would be great on a ranger
That actually got changed to “on fury” instead. Makes the longbow-vulnerability build much more a pain to keep uptime. :\
Now it’s better suited to greatsword.
I’m sure it’s been said before, but with ANet’s current habit of putting rewards in containers that MF doesn’t affect, it’s pretty irritating that Magic Find is relevant at all. Events can have anti-farm loot tables (champions and other mobs that don’t drop loot at all), and even Personal Story went that way.

It’s actually a very similar problem with the Monk Outfit. Caused a kittenstorm of complaints when they changed the hip size to accommodate the clipping of floating legs.
>_>
I might have liked to make Howler, but hearing all the non-legendary things that have happened to it is incredibly disappointing.
I’m actually considering…
:\
Meteorlogicus.
I’d rather just see overlapping combo fields produce all their effects instead of whatever light/poison field happens to be on top of my fire field. :P
Grats!
At least you didn’t bind to account, like I did with my precursor.
;n;
I don’t even want Meteorologicus.then craft it and sell the legendary =)
When you put it like that..
I still don’t want it. XD Though, I think I’d still get the skin for it, right? Might be worth all the extra trouble. Not if you sell it no only if you bind the legendary aswell.
Well dang. But I might take Iris’ suggestion and cash in to buy some nifty-expensive things. Or, maybe, actually keep it for my Tempest.
I’m having a crisis now. ;_;
Grats!

The use of swords, axes, etc in a setting where assault rifles, machine pistols, flame throwers, grenades, bazookas, combat drones, tanks, helicopters, rapid fire artillery, etc are common.
The same could be said for walking everywhere when Charr tanks and Asura golems exist. Oh, and airships are a thing. But we still walk.
I’m with you about the truncation. Sure let us ask for X gold but give us the change as well, we pay exact change when we buy gems.
Steam has search tools? I always have to resort to external sites to narrow it down by more than price or genre.
I said this before but the Style section needs to have sub tabs for Armor Sets, Armor Pieces, Outfits, Weapons.
Highlighted for Oh gods yes.
Heh, Steam has poor search tools. What’s more surprising is that Google, bastion of data farming and search engines, has a kittenty search tool when looking for apps. They ought to be ashamed.
Anti-derail finish: Yes, a gem store UI update is about due, so ANet can have a good rotation of Style and Finisher offerings without cluttering up their interface.
Grats!
At least you didn’t bind to account, like I did with my precursor.

I don’t even want Meteorologicus.

It’s dumb stuff like “Lolhax” and “Rektdeath” that make me want to punch babies.
I’m sorry to hear that. And I hope that is hyperbole.
>.>
Which? The groan-worthy names or baby punching?
I don’t keep babies nearby when playing MMOs, just in case. :P
But sadly, those names are (probably) real. u.u
When Non lore friendly named Sylvari Rpers insert their horrible headcanon as lore and rp as if they aren’t doing anything wrong.(PS YOU RUIN IT FOR PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY CARE)
Ohgods, walking in on someone’s “private” RP when I’m nowhere near them. I cry. Literally. I /cry frequently.
ANet, please, with quaggan cookies on top, lower the emote range. I’m actually begging not to have all of Rata Sum hear what’s going on in the crafting stations.
(edited by Rauderi.8706)
Heh, I may have painted with too broad a brush, earlier. I don’t care for some of ANet’s strategies, but I do agree with doing something about stale merchandise, for a few reasons.
To leave the items indefinitely, players will just gold-grind until they can buy it. That equates to lost revenue, mostly. Sure, there’s gold→gem→gold, but the conversion rates aren’t terribly favorable to buyers (and I’m still kittened about the UI and truncation*). So, removing the items for a time does make sense. And really, after three years, if you didn’t have most of those skins, you weren’t going to buy them anyway.
The other, more expensive option would be to improve the gem store interface to include better search tools. As it is, take a look at your typical online stores (iSomething, Google Play, and uhgods, Steam), and you’ll find their shop interfaces woefully inadequate for searching through the thousands of items available. While GW2’s stock isn’t nearly so vast, the UI does make browsing a pain in the tuckus. So, rather than revamp the UI, a risky proposition with little profit, it’s easier to withdraw items. It’s somewhat ironic that it would be for the sake of customer convenience, but such is the case. Players can find new items easier and faster that way.
It does beg an interesting question of how long should items be available before withdrawing them. Right now, we just blissfully ignore the gem store offerings because they come on somewhat consistently, then hang around too long. So, a month? It’s timely, encourages purchases, but allows grinders to fetch gold to feed the gem conversion.
I could see 500 jewelcrafting necessary for legendary backpieces. And 500 cooking could give buffs specific to raids that might be extremely useful.
You don’t need 500 of any crafting discipline to produce a legendary weapon so I don’t see why you would need 500 for a legendary backpiece (also backpieces aren’t jewelry, requiring armorsmithing, leatherworking or tailoring would make more sense).
It’s really not that hard to imagine anet could find use for both of these professions going to 500.
The only purpose either of these professions going to 500 would be to introduce more artificial “progression” to hide another crafting material sink and another grind.
Make no mistake here: the other crafting disciplines did not have to go to 500 when they added ascended recipes. All the ascended recipes they added could have all required level 400. Instead they increased it to 500 so we would sink our mats into levelling up crafting disciples (and presumably to slow down crafters a bit) but it was basically busy work.
Amazing, the things we accept when games consistently do these things. I didn’t even really question the 400-500 jump, I just rolled with it. >.>
Hm, I’d have to say the #1 immersion breaker is people with stupid names. And/or fanboys. Not that I’m a huge RP-lore stickler, but the names that obviously don’t even try are absolutely irritating.
I absolutely love people with “stupid”/creative names. It gives me a little chuckle every single time. I hope people with a sense of humor never stop playing video games.
And besides, people give their kids stupid names every day in real life too. : P
Honestly, the only thing that can break somebody’s “immersion” in a game, is their lack of “imagination” in real life.
I love the creative ones that make me giggle. Then again, I’m one of those horrible people that like puns. =P

Thanks all.
One Charr Mesmer coming up.
Havnt player Charrs yet so this will either be fun or a total disaster.
How strange, Charr Mesmer was one of my original five. I suppose I liked the contrast of a brutal, bestial character wielding the most subtle and skillful magics.
Or, like many others who play Norn Mesmers, dressing up the uber macho in purple and pink. :P
I dont see many Sylvari Necros.
Are there lesser played combos?
I have one!
She’s a beautiful flower named Venus Nightshade.
And a total poe.
Warrior + Gauntlets + Roars = Brawler
this is what im waiting and of course the one time change display name per account.
I could get behind that.
Imagine an elite Ele spec with claw weapons.
And Charr martial artists. Want.
And it’s not about value to the players but as a means to provide a more steady income to ANet.
Not about value to the players? The players are the ones who need enticing to spend money. ANet offers, we buy. If we don’t like what’s offered, either because it’s too expensive (perceived low value) or because it simply doesn’t fit our aesthetic sensibilities, we don’t buy.
But the reason I highlight the specific statement is because that’s the drive to be unethical. Or, at least, inhumane. Treating the customer like moneymeat to strain a few dollars out of them. I’m all for paying the designers and the company. I do. I’m a “whale” (albeit a small one :P).
But good will is a long-term strategy for customer retention that many companies merely don’t grasp. And that’s sad when it comes to games. We need more companies to focus on humane design, which GW2 is fairly good about as a game, except in a few regards to rewards for time and actual money invested.
invisible walls. hills that appear climbable but aren’t.
This. Thiiiiiis. The most loathsome thing I run across while exploring in an MMO. There are unclimbable hills that look like I should be able to claw my way up, but some ‘legal’ paths that totally don’t look climbable at all. The former inevitably teaches me to stop searching for the latter.
Biggest turnoff for me in a guild ad is “100% rep req”
Basically, “if you want to be our friend you don’t get to have any other friends”
As the leader for a Guild Wars community guild that has been active for nearly 10 years, members representing us 100%, with the exception of bank guilds, has been essential to our long existence.
Oh yes, it is definitely beneficial for the guild and its leaders. Noone disputes that. But if you have to enforce that, it only means that you and your guildmembers really aren’t friends.
If a guild requires 100% rep, it’s not doing enough to keep their members anyway.
Why do them even remove things from the gem store? Why take away options from paying players?
To make them buy it faster.
There’s also removing a lot of low-selling clutter, so that new options are prominent. It’s pretty shoddy ethics, but there we are.
So now it’s not ethical for the developers to get paid?
lawl at emotion-bait.
Funny thing, I actually pay. Like, not converting gold to gems, real life dollars. I support what I like, and I do so without begrudging the company for making it.
That doesn’t make the abuse of psychology to wrench a few more monies out of people to be a less-than-ethical practice.
I’d say the gold-to-gem conversion is part of the reason for these manipulative ‘sales’. If they left the items on indefinitely, gold farmers would just run dungeons or play the trading post until they could buy them, for free, while providing a minuscule bump in gem value. ANet loses $10, and a potential gold buyer gets the short shrift (twice-over for rounding error truncation!).
With digital product, the sky’s the limit on ways to offer more value for actually paying up. 800 gems gets a paltry amount of gold or an easy way to afford the next nifty outfit, but the pot could be sweeter, at no additional cost to the developer. Bundle deals can entice purchases just as easily as “buy now” schemes. Simple example: buy gems and get a free Black Lion Chest Key. Or 6 transmuation charges. Or whatever. Rotate the rewards and see what sells the most extra gems.
But instead, we get tsk-worthy things like “going away forever” sales, “one day” sales, and deliberately pricing things so that we have extra gems left over (outfits) or it requires buying 1600 gems instead of 800 (harvesting tools). Tactics like those, while effective, don’t harbor good will from the buyer, and the buyer knows it, even if he falls for it.
1. Weaker than advertised
2. Any other name
3. So much squee
4. Melee staff ragequit (haha)
5. Bouncy but clumsy
6. Hammer without CC?
7. Soul is mine!
8. Horn rage, haha.
9. F5 long cooldown
Bwahaha! Fantastic!

I sold one for 2 gold~ That was when people were trying to farm the weekend event and had to dash and tag to get their 20 stacks.
That sounds like there will be some other way to get them, maybe? Some “indirect” way? Some way that doesn’t cost RL cash?
I could see them releasing the finishers in a similar way to the holiday ones: Release them in reward bundles that give 3-5 uses. Maybe somewhere in the PvP track rewards, since that makes the most sense.
I think infusions in general have alot of potential anyways for jeweler 500.
Except the current infusion process is handled by Artificer. :\
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Agony_Infusion
Artificer gets too much and Jeweler too little.
Maybe they’re using the softer audio so they can buff the Howler’s special bits again?
…I shouldn’t get hopeful.
How do we add new recipes? Make longer versions of existing ones? Make new more powerful versions? How about food that give effects such as those in runes or sigils?
One obvious answer is to make food that gives Agony Resistance. It may not seem to make much sense to current fractal runners, but it could be of use to new ones. And if the max Fractal level was to ever jump past the current 50, then even geared runners might find a need for it.
Look at the current prices on AR Infusions, then ask yourself: “How much would a food that gives you +10 AR for an hour be worth?”
I like the idea!
And I’d completely forgotten that Cooking could do dyes. Could make for some interesting new dye packs at 500. Maybe even ones that give special dyes.
Jewelcrafting is going to be the harder one to justify, though Ascended grade gems that come with Agony Resistance should be a thing.

Definitely will be through Hero Points. You can always save your Hero Points by not unlocking every skill and trait; only those you use regularly.
Good luck.
That’s my strategy!
Might be a little stickier on some of my ‘mains,’ but I’m doofing around enough to hopefully have them unlocked right away.
Thanks for the heads up!
Thankfully there’s nothing there I want or don’t already have.
btw dont blame the lovely word kitten. at german forum the word is “liebsche”
so kitten is really fine
So that’s the reason for the strange reaction when I used kitten on the german forum. It’s already difficult enough to remember what forum I’m posting on and using the correct language. Now I also have to adjust my swearing? I call bullliebsche!
They make you say sweetheart in German on those forums?
Either that or Google lies to me. XD
Not to be dismissive about it, but why have our weapon skills list look like our utility skills list? At least half of the utility skills are trash, in every class. It’s wasted design effort. It’d be the same with new weapon skills.
There are entire weapons that don’t get used often, for whatever reason. Adding skill alternates wouldn’t really change that. Or, if people did, then it would be the result of power creep, which is equally as bad in design.
They could had done it like this and they didn’t.
In fact i never played a game which is so human biased like this one.
in tera however human is my least favored race.
I use to chose magic races in games but
i play here only asura and human because the rest is so boring.Tera and its playerbase is so kittening creepy…
Literally. That picture.
/shudder
It’s way too underage.
tl;dr: Come back if you want to. Don’t force it.
A lot of GW2 is about setting your own goals and being able to actually put the game down until something interesting happens again.
Better idea: make the NPC’s run on all fours when not wielding weapons.
Yeah, make ALL the NPCs run on all fours. The Asura would be adorable little pocket gremlins.
He was talking about the charr npcs :P
Of course! I’m just saying, we should limit bipedal/quadrupedal animations based on race. One Tyria, One Love!
(That and I want a Norn to run around like a puppy.)
One-hit KOs. Those can die in a fire.
Speed spamming hard CC. That can die in a fire, too.
Eh… as nice as it would be, I would rather have people be negative and passionate…
I’d rather they be constructive.
Negativity, especially passionate, is the reason why we can’t have nice things in the first place. It leads to ill-conceived rants, complaining, and name-calling.
Measured negativity finds problems. And for most game designers, that’s as far as we need to go; they’ll take care of the rest.
What would be helpful is an idea that’s popular enough to gain traction but still fits within the design scheme.
But yeah, forums are where dissatisfied people go to complain, because if the game is fun, there’s no need to complain. :P
Yeah.. Kinda tired of heavy armor having more skirt than some light armors.
Especially on a Charr.
Better idea: make the NPC’s run on all fours when not wielding weapons.

I’m gonna laugh my kitten off when they introduce new mats which you can only harvest in HoT zones that you will need to level cook/JC past 400.
They already have some spots for cooking mats in HoT. And I think a new mining node. Getting those masteries is going to mean money in the bank early on.
I don’t like the community effect to be honest. I think it discourages being kind and helpful for the sake of being kind and helpful. You get somebody asking for help with something, and so instead of “Sure, let’s go do it.” you get some people saying “offer?” “how much?” etc. as if the idea of helping another player without some kind of compensation is terrible. I think it has toxic repercussions for the entire community, and that disallowing it would benefit the community as a result.
I freely admit that is just my opinion, but I think there is some logic behind it.
Perhaps start a trend of advertised-free groups? Where you see “Selling path X”, saddle up right alongside and post “Free path X” runs. Just bring two friends and let the pugs have a nice day.
