funny, an outfit that looks good is complained about but for some reason a butt ugly armor i would not even wish my worst enemies is appreciated……WTF?

I know! The Royal Guard outfit is (mostly) pretty snazzy! And yet, those old GW1-PvP armor sets still exist. ;_;

I just found out about the howler sound… wth is Anets problem with this legendary??? it sounds absolutely stupid now.. why are they taking the legendary out of our legendary?

They aren’t, really. They’re just trying for a new type of legendary: Legendarily Awful. The next step will be to rename the horn to Farter, make the aura a sort of brown cloud, and make the footfalls look like little cowpies. Every nine-year-old in the game will love it!

I wish I didn’t have to take that seriously. ;_; And yet, I fear it’s true.

Basic Enemy Combat Difficulty

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

I’ll add my thoughts to this one.

Overall, the enemies seem okay. There’s a few items I need to point out, but otherwise, I’m, estimated, 70% happy with the encounters.

The other 30% is killing the game for me.

  1. Mordrem tormentors cause 5 stacks of Torment with one of their attacks. Alone, it’s actually not so bad. When I’m doing an event and they decide to focus fire me, it’s highly irritating, even if I use my condi-clean on weapon switch.
  2. Shadowscales have too much uptime on their mist-evasion. The effect visual doesn’t match the actual timing, either. I’ll be missing for at least two seconds after the effect is gone. And by then, the shadowscale horfs up another mist within two seconds. I don’t mind the mechanic itself. It’s clever, but I think it should be “ignores damage” instead of “evade,” so that a player can still use tactical push/pull, especially when it gets hung up on a stationary object like a security wall or a turret.
  3. Damage in some cases is still overtuned. With a Celestial-geared warrior, I shouldn’t be taking 20-25% of my health per hit from small group mobs, and I should be able to stay on the front line without getting downed by ANet’s addictions:
  4. One-hit KOs.
  5. Knockdown charges with high damage.
  6. Over-long multihits that can’t be cleanly evaded.

More specifically:

  • Hammer frog champion thing. Not so difficult if you see it coming, but it was a bull- intro when “That is a big frog,” then wham, half the adventuring party is down without warning. It grates me because it’s ANet’s OHKO fetish again, but it’s avoidable with a simple dodge roll.
  • The spinning Diarmid needs to have something done about her attack. It goes on too long to be properly avoided, and she chases someone until they die. Recommendations: Don’t chase, but do a wide-path nautilus; shorter spin duration (3 sec?); much slower chase speed. Any one of those would bring her from overpowered to just right.
  • As mentioned above, shadowscales should be “ignore damage/conditions” while in mist, so push/pull can still be used.

Verdant Brink Map Concerns

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

After messing around in the beta, I have a few concerns about the new areas. First is the terrain. I have a terrible sense of direction and this map is a confusing mess to me. It’s probably a personal problem, but I do hope the map will be less confusing once the entire thing is opened up.

It won’t be an issue when the area is new, but you can already see this problem in areas like Dry Top, which is mostly abandoned. I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

Too late to change it now, but I hate, hate how much Verdant Brink feels like Dry Top. Events that are there but I can’t get to. Winding paths that lead to the same areas I’ve been before.

It’s all poorly marked, and the map tools need to be much better. We have map layers in cities, but on world maps, we’re stuck not being able to see beyond the surface level, if at all.

WTS omnomberries CHEAPEST PRICE ON THE SERVER

Yeah its one of the reasons I love GW2, no obnoxious WTS/WTB. Even games that has dedicated trade channels will see main chat flooded with it because people are idiots.

To go along with that, many people would flood the main chat channel because they knew that so many people opted out of showing the trade channel.

Which is why I leave main chat, too.
Every new character in a major city: /leave trade /leave main
Every time.
I don’t even keep map chat rolling except in its own “you’re a bad child” tab, so I can check up on it once in a rare while.

Have you not played in Orr or Drytop/Silverwastes? Because some of the mobs do what you describe.

did not played drytop but i did play silverwastes and orr. the mobs i describe are from another game (poe) and they are nowhere to be found in gw2 (or any other mmorpg), at least i have never seen them. they are basically generic mobs but they use multiple player abilities and some unique abilities and auras and can be quite challenging and certainly do not allow you to kill them without paying a lot of attention to what you and they are doing.

Some mobs in GW2 have player abilities.
Because [kitten] those [kittening] longbow-4 spamming [kittens].

I have to wonder the ramifications for having a drop item that you hit a mob with and it turns it into a randomized champion enemy. Like the candy corn exploit, but actually hard. :P

Ok, Condi builds officially have me confused.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

The defensive stats you’re seeing in Dire are more or less intended to ensure you live long enough for your condition damage to stick, since damage over time relies on being survivable.
But, take a look at the Sinister set for damage:
Condition Damage Power Precision
Condition builds aren’t purely condition, and in many cases, they rely on on-critical effects for additional stacks of conditions. Power and precision also lend a little to their ‘white’ damage.

Condition damage ‘magnifies’ a little differently than Power x Ferocity x Precision. Condition duration gives you more concurrent stacks, as do the ticks from on-critical applications. It also grows based the number of different types of conditions that you can apply. 25 bleeding stacks isn’t going to be as effective as 12 bleed, 3 burn, 5 torment, and 5 poison.

Querying the trading system in a post. Hmm.

Really though, the trading post is there as a gold sink, convenience, and a way to suppress illegitimate players.

And it works. That trading post is the best, most convenient system I’ve used in an MMO. It blows standard auction houses out of the water. And since it’s such an effective gold filter, most of the prices are more or less tamed (excepting the obvious BS drop rates on certain exotics).

Edit: Oh yeah, and it keeps obnoxious trade chat from the game. Awesome!

After completing a dungeon....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

DPS meters wouldn’t work in GW2. Not because damage couldn’t be tracked, but because, to do it properly, it would have to track damage contributed from Might and Fury to the person granting the boons.

And then how would it be tracked from combo finishers? Each might stack would have to have two potential owners, and dps contributed by one player divided in part between the two creating the Might stacks.

Nope. Poorly conceived idea that doesn’t account for class balancing.

So, when someone provides you with a way to make the game more engaging by taking away the mechanics that make it mindless such as dodging and your heal skill, suddenly it’s too challenging. What would you suggest instead?

I start by not swallowing the bait hook, line, and sinker, for one. It’s not that the idea is even too challenging. It’s that the idea is fraught with needless complications that makes everything less enjoyable.

The perma-death option could be an interesting challenge, but that web guy’s list is obnoxiously arbitrary and, especially for dodging, defies one of the game’s core mechanics. Dodging and healing are the opposite of mindless, by the way. Banning dodge and heal leads to mashing 1-5 and fighting mobs that aren’t even interesting. And for the sole interest of preserving the character, it leads to even more risk-adverse behavior, which is boring.

You COULD play with hardcore rules(which I conveniently have a forum post on(shameless plug))

Yeeeahno. Saw that litany of rules. The bigger challenge is remembering all the wonky, poorly-thought ‘rules’ that went along with it.

Not to say a “Lifetime” or “Career” style of play wouldn’t be interesting, but arbitrary junk like “50 gold to unlock dodging” or “can’t change gear” is just.. dumb. >_>

I could see simple things like:
No bank access. (Or, if there’s room, limited to one bank tab.)
Cannot use Deposit Materials and must carry everything in available bags.
No waypoints.
No Trading Post access or gear vendors. (You can only use what you make or find.)
Can only change/learn skills in capital cities or Lion’s Arch.
And of course, if dead, delete.

Some “casuals” enjoy difficult challenges too. Please stop equating “casual” to “bad” or “easy mode” for kittens sake. Many of us do not appreciate it.

Not going to happen it’s patented elitism claptrap. Typical that most people need to try and build themselves up by tearing others down and this caters to the worst of that demographic.

No, it is just fact. By definition casuals put less time into the game and thus less time to get better or to practice.

n.
a person who does something irregularly.

Note the “definition” doesn’t say “without skill.” If you think it takes 5000+ hours to be elite at GW2, that’s severely incorrect. Even an old debate in psychology about “expertise,” which used to be defined as “10 or more years,” has been more or less debunked.

I’m sure there are players with less time in their /age than me that would destroy my skill level, because they actively seek out challenges. Which is what matters. If you’re merely “practicing,” you’re wasting time.

So, yeah, casual =/= unskilled. Get over it.

A possibly correct assumptions as to why people come on here to say “wut who?” about this shrug-worthy individual is:
1. They might know, but they’re awesome iconoclasts who don’t bend to “celebrity.” They might even be sick of parrots trying to drum up site support in an inappropriate place, because the forums are not intended for advertising beyond GW2.
2. THEY LEGITIMATELY DON’T KNOW OR CARE WHO HE IS because he has no bearing on their gameplay or enjoyment.

Dagger/Dagger Ele is very good to finish many mobs very fast and quite robust if you learned to play him. Staff Ele is the glass cannon high damage but hard to keep alive if enemies come close.

Staff Ele is all about kiting and position. I did something on the border of 15v1 during a Scarlet invasion. Took forever, but I came out of it without even getting downed. :P

Heh, the necro-minion bug (should be fixed now) is what made me go Dagger/Wells. I love it. So much more interesting than firing staff marks into a wall of minions.

Hi, I’m new as well.

From what I can understand necro is like a glass cannon with buggy minions that may or may not be fixed with HOT.

Mesmer is more of a CC class.

Ele is more complex and should be a really strong all around class

IMO necro looks cooler and this games all about fashion so….

Just make both and take both up to like lv10 then see which one you feel more interested in. shouldn’t take much time

Necro minions got fixed in a recent patch. So I hear. I haven’t quite moved back to it.

But, rundown from someone who’s gotten all to max level:

Elementalist: I’d call them straightforward, but it’s a deep, complex class that has the most direct impact of the three clothies. They’re also among the most wanted classes for group content (or at least the old dungeons).

Mesmer: Trickier to play, and they take some build up to really be potent, but they’re decent for crowd control and high on condition damage. A high skill curve, but I find them the most fun of the three. Often wanted for their unique teleportation skills.

Necromancer: Probably the best on having different build options of the three. Between minions, daggers/wells, Epidemic/corruption, etc, the different necro builds play more uniquely. Less on group synergy and more on tearing down an enemy, Necros toy with conditions the most of the three.

Hell, for all we know a boss could enrage if you do too much DPS. Start hammering at it with ten Zerk Elementalists, and it flies into an actual rage and rex everybody. Have to try and keep your damage against it beneath an acceptable level, while also dealing with the adds/traps/whatevers protecting the unusually touchy boss.

Wouldn’t that be a kick in the pants for the Zerker Kings out there convinced that nothing but RAWRGHDEEPS is the way to play GW2?

Not quite related, but I did a fight design for a tabletop that pretty much did this. They AoE bombed the encounter, killed all the adds without ever finding out what they did, then realized they were debuffed severely and had to back out of the battle with their tails tucked.

A few of them may have been ticked.
/whistle o/’

More related, I suspect that the more defensive players may be assigned to holding points or securing objectives, while offensive players will handle murdering adds and doing boss damage.

Raid Content concern

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Rauderi.8706

Unfortunately raids may not be for you if you prefer a single build that does everything. Learning to adapt is just as much a part of overcoming a challenge as is learning specific mechanics.

Or, y’know, come to understand that a raid isn’t a stale 5-man dungeon or solo venture. It boils down to communication with the raid team, which is hopefully a group of people you know well. Half the work of a raid is simply getting people ready.

So that’s when you detail what you bring to the group. Sacrificing condi removal in a build to do ____. Then fill in the blank: boons, damage, control? Tell your teammates what you’re good at and they can help you find the best fit for a given fight.

Not to say adjusting your build should be out of the question, but here’s to hoping that the raid designs will take into account a mix of offensive and defensive play styles.

Rauderi.8706

Considering, even when running WoW’s LFR, the lead up to the raid time took about as long as the raid itself…?

Say the formula follows: trash, trash, boss, trash, trash, boss. Raid done.

Trash encounters shouldn’t be more than a minute each. 4 minutes. Maybe 2 minutes, to be generous. 8 minutes total. Add in a shrug-worthy amount for travel time.
If a boss goes on more than 5 minutes, something’s gone wrong, either in the design, the execution, or the team composition. 10 minutes total.

So, a two-boss raid really shouldn’t be more than 30 minutes once the group is together. An organized guild should be able to slap a group from start to finish in an hour.

Add more bosses, add more time, but at that point, do the whole thing in chunks and fragment the rewards appropriately.

I think I’d be fine with a 3-boss raid and about a 1-2 hour estimate depending on performance.

Chronomancer, Berserker, Reaper

I’m gladly waiting for:
Herald, Tempest, Daredevil, (Forge, and Druid)

I’m hoping for a complete re-design of:
Dargonhurrdurr

Do you not have a 'main'?

While I have a ‘main,’ I don’t treat my alts all that differently. It’s just that my charrhammerbaby gets more love than the others. I also find it more convenient to swap characters than carry around multiple gear sets for the same class.

Royal Guard Outfit

Very glad to have this armor.

It’s (mostly) what I’ve been asking for: a clean, not-over-the-top heavy armor outfit. I could do without the church windows, but I’ll put up with it since it looks good overall.

Newbies are super cute. Be nice to them… if they’re Sylvari. Everything else is open game to hazing.

Back, back spawn of Mordramoth! I’ll not have you sprout lies to those innocent souls!

Really though, I’ll add my welcomes to the new players out there. Enjoy Tyria. It’s a good place to be.

Yes please. Even if it’s just toss 4 into the toilet and get a new mini. >_>

2 Months and Farewell Fractals.

Having Fractals not take an hour means that players can have a fulfilling game experience in a shorter, more manageable amount of time. It’s easier to fit into busy lives.

As it is, Fractals being the usual 3+1 maps just made it an unapproachable burden. With upcoming dailies and a shorter required play experience, we might see more fractal participation.

Boost Powder: useless minis to boosters?

I would think a more reasonable request is to make them all forgeable. Then you can buy cheap minis and combine in the forge and try for one you don’t have.

You mean I could shove 4 Jennahs into a toilet and get, maybe..

Lord Faren~?

Anyone else underwhelmed by the"Elite" specs?

Overall, I’m actually pretty happy with the way the elites are forming. Sure, Tempest feels a bit oddball, Dargonhurrdurr is a muddled mess, but I genuinely like what I’m seeing.

Hopefully, we’ll get another elite not too far away, so we can really see the new trait system and what its design space can offer.

There’s a famous saying from Benjamin Franklin about criticism some of you folks need to look up.

“Critics are our friends, they show us our faults.”

Though I’m sure you meant:

“Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain – and most fools do.”

Aside from Dargonhurrdurr so far, there have been a lot of indications that the devs want us to group up more. Certain AoE supports have dropped in range, and most of the new weapons are focusing on close-range attacks.

And then if you split up, you get another title:
