Profanity/hateful speech reaching new peaks

The filter is not there to give you carte blanche to swear as much as you want.

It’s there so I don’t have to see it between you using it and you getting suspended for using it.

If suspending for language would get you suspended, stop, grow up just a little bit and control yourself.
And if you feel you need profanity to feel like an adult you have serious maturity issues.

You agreed to certain ToS, if you then refuse to keep up your end of the bargain it is not in any way unreasonable to suspend or ban you.
Nothing to do with people being overly sensitive, but only the standards of behavior you agreed to follow.

Echoing for truth. The conversation’s come up before, and Gaile’s confirmed it there. Just because there’s a filter, it doesn’t give open license to be a kittenface kittenbag with a kitten up your kitten.

Snark aside, OP, I recommend report and block. Unfortunately, report does not auto-block, so you must do the two separately. Also, infractions take time, and may be ruled as warnings or non-offense.

Agreed the challenge is a bit silly, Wanze. I’m amused by it, though.

Having testers is fine, but it’s not good policy for a person in position of management to remove himself from the actual conditions he’s supposed to manage. So, not saying JS should be gunning world completion, but he should be both crafting and acquiring precursors, along with obtaining tester feedback.

I’unno, maybe he does! I don’t want to accuse and say he doesn’t. Maybe he’s personally happy with the process. Maybe he started something he can’t take back without a lot of flak, or his advisory/development role doesn’t permit changes he’d like to make. Maybe he doesn’t like it, but any immediate solution would make the markets less stable, so he can’t recommend it.
Lots of maybes, so I certainly cut him lots of slack, even if the requirements for crafting and such look like bad decisions on the player side. Still much respect.

I don’t think the Game Director and Game Economist should be spend long hours of game-testing long term goals.

Actually, they should. The former ought to be familiar with all aspects of the game in design. Perhaps not so much in the greatest detail, but knowing the player-side experience is vital.
The latter needs to be in the trenches as well, to identify things a spreadsheet is going to miss, and to know the feel of economic impact. Simultaneously answering “is it stable?” and “is it fun?”

To be more tongue-in-cheek about it, I have to wonder if JS considers the “mundane” route fun. Grinding materials, events, and fractals for ‘long term goals’.
Or if he uses insider trading info to make money. :P

If you’re just sprinkling in a few pieces of armor, there’s no need for a new gear set.

A piece of Valkyrie and a piece of Zealot tilts toward higher damage. Magi gives both defense stats and Precision, which is better for sigil/trait activation anyway.

My issue itch hearts and minds is different.

The challenge mote suggests a party of 5, but how are you supposed to get 5 ppl in your party when there is no WP and the only way people can one help is to finish the previous story mission?

How’s any of this an issue? You WP to DS and talk to the NPC to enter the lobby area for the last mission. There are plenty of people that have beaten the story but not done that achievement. You just have to post a LFG for it.

My experience there (after finishing solo, oddly enough) was in the story instance, and no less than two groups tried to wrangle me in with invites. Unsolicited, so I ignored them, but still, there was some eager grouping up going on.

Hopefully LFG will be better luck for you, Nek.

I feel like this is common in MMOs or any group “early” in a game’s design. (Three years is still toddler for an MMO, honestly.)

They want to have puzzle fights and ‘tricky’ mechanics, so they don’t convey them as they should. That kind of information distribution didn’t really take root in WoW until Cataclysm, and before that, high end players would use mods to predict boss strategies.

Knowing that kind of information was desirable, WoW started integrating better tells into encounter design. We’re starting to see ANet learn that lesson faster. Ish. The more channels you output information, the more likely a player can pick up on them.

Small example: A visual-only cue on the bladedancer stun-murder attack. There’s almost no amount of camera work that will help me see that past a max-sized Charr warrior. Add a grunt or hiss during the windup, and I have another cue to spur a reaction, and it’s suddenly not some “no-tell instant hit,” but something I know is coming even though my character blocks the visual.

When it comes to Hearts and Minds, the tell is only partially effective, because it assumes a choice where there is little. I tried to hop off the side of the stage, only to get stopped by invisible walls in places that looked open. I can only assume the leyline visual is for those who have unlocked gliding that far, but “take to the skies” is too vague.
Extra note, standing behind the shield that protects the party really ought to work for me, too. :\ I appreciate the Launch command, but it’s not thematically appropriate.

Problem with Warrior in 5 words

Rauderi.8706

I’m baffled as to why Fast Hands is so lauded as a thing to get. It doesn’t make actual cooldowns come by faster. Shrug-worthy sigils, maybe? Discipline’s Fury on switch?
But then you’d still be taking Discipline. Baseline Fast Hands might free up some other trait choices, but…

Fast Hands isn’t going to revolutionize Warrior.

Most of our weapons skills are a joke. Swapping more quickly between two lackluster weapons isn’t going to fix it.
Half utilities are a joke, even when they work like they’re supposed to. Our support’s been nerfed, so the only thing we’re properly allowed is greatsword.

What we need is better access to Stability and Resistance on demand, and for some of our traits to mean something.

Wait what?

Disagreeing is one thing, but saying warriors need better access to stability? What?

They do. And the Berserker trait doesn’t count, because it’s not core Warrior. They added it because Warrior needs Stability.

Dolyak Signet and Balanced Stance, like almost every skill with Stability, have cooldowns that are too long to contend with the number of uptime required to tolerate HoT mobs, or even some rare instances in old Tyria (dust mites, etc).

To be honest, I wouldn’t even be calling for it, if some of these one-note HoT mobs didn’t spam knockdowns as basic attacks, making it impossible to melee. Sure, I could use bow/rifle, but would mean having one equipped instead of swapping between two melee.

Last fight of Hearts and Minds? Yeah, I beat my head on that no-tell thing until I managed to find the trigger point.

[Possible spoiler below]

When it says get behind the shield or take to the skies, stay with your NPC party. Someone will set up a tiny bubble shield to stand in. Probably bugged, but it won’t protect you. What it does is sets up a Launch command that sends you airborne. You’ll need updraft mastery to pull this off effectively, but you can sail around until the phase ends.
Or possibly have leyline mastery, which I didn’t have at the time.

I must not have had issues with Prized Possessions, else I’d remember being spitting mad with it. Hope the above helps, though.

People.

But jokes aside, severe dps/gear checks, really bad RNG mechanics, poor drop rates, cheesy mechanics like “blink and you die”, large amounts of trash mobs, huge time investment requirements, etc. You know all the reasons I gave up raiding in other games, excluding stereotypes of players that make raiding … less than pleasant.

So, basically…

“No to every raid mechanic ever”? :P

Granted, ANet can stuff their one-hit KO fetish where the Mordrem don’t grow. That’s another thing that pushes the full-damage meta. If you can’t survive it anyway, why gear for it?

On trash mobs, less trash groups on the way to the boss, but mob management during a boss fight should totally be a thing for some of them. Up until the break bar, monoliths were bad-bad design for GW2, and now they’re reasonably tolerable.

PS: Can I just bring 9 of my alts with me? At least they can all get ready in under half an hour. :P

I’m cool with #1, with a caveat.
Don’t reward the full-nomad group with an easy win. Yes, it takes a different set of skills to win an attrition fight, but that fight should still get harder over time, forcing players to balance offense and defense strategies.

I’m a little baffled with #2. I wouldn’t mind seeing challenge motes a group could trigger to make the fight harder to get more loot chances though. Especially if the challenge is “Survive this fight for 7 minutes before defeating.” :P
Rewarding fast-clears is just going to push a Zerk/Sinister meta you just nipped at in #1.

Apply #3 across the entire game, gdangit. Stunmurder frogs and a list of other too-subtle, muddy-looking creatures don’t broadcast obviously enough, especially in audio.
Be sure to add text/icons for things that are affecting the fight, so we have time to notice/read them.

Relevant to #4, limit the BS mechanics that deny me use of my build. If I must use a kit, give me time with it before a clutch encounter to read/test the abilities.

New item, #5: Knockdown spam =/= “Challenge”

Rauderi.8706

Oooh, I see where the flaw is now.

Gems bought with money and gems bought with gold come from two separate pools.

Me buying gems with salary doesn’t affect the gold->gem rate at all.

As gold in the gem/gold system increases, prices will rise. When a person buys gems for real currency and trades them in for gold, they then add gems to the gem/gold system, and the prices fall.

A bit of marketing research (I haven’t looked up specifics, so take it as you will), most money-transaction games expect 7%-11% of players to actually pay up. That leaves the remaining 90% to either go without, or in GW2’s case, buy gems with gold. The skew is definitely in the gold→gems direction, which is why prices rise. Fewer gems in the system, and more gold being added.

Also, I think Spidey’s been on the fritz recently. GW2TP works better, so I hear.

I certainly have my gripes about Champion hero points as well, but at least 50% of the encounters in Verdant Brink and Auric Basin are designed to put you on the floor on the shortest cooldowns possible. Or the other tactics that negate attacks and drag the fight out.

Even some of that would be forgivable if the mob density wasn’t so high. If 1 mob is built to handle 1 player, they shouldn’t be occurring in groups of 2-5, with a wandering veteran off to the side in aggro range.

Not that I understand the qqsalt over people buying gold with money (in a secure, legal way). They bring gem prices down so other people don’t have to grind as much to afford gem store items.

You are mistaken, buying gold with real money does not bring prices down. This issue with buying gold with real money is that it causes inflation in-game because it puts new money in to the economy that never existed. …

They bring gem prices down

Not to be a bear about it, but the rest of what you wrote was based on a faulty premise of missed information.

Also, rising gem value freezes assets that were otherwise going to remain in game from irrepressible gold-farmers gaining loose cash from dungeons and other sources of liquid currency. All buying gems does is re-liquefy that for the buyer, who then injects that back into the economy, with a hefty service charge similar to the Black Lion Trading Post. Those fees remove huge chunks of gold at a time, first on the gold→gem transaction, and again on the gem→gold transaction.
All while giving ANet the real-money infusion they built the system for in the first place.

Adventures too hard?

2. Everyone hates adventures. Since they are so overtuned this makes the most sense. If everyone just tries them once or twice and then says kitten this then it makes sense that after spending an hour or so on an adventure that I would be able to get to rank 200 even with a lot of players.

This is my personal experience with the people I’ve talked with in game. A few said they really liked them and thought they were easy, but most people said they found them frustrating and after a few tries, just give up and move on to something less grindy feeling.

Hate would be a strong word for me. I appreciate that they’re there for those who like the platforming experience.

But I recognize that the designers are still not designing for the system they have, but the system they want and will never get. Jump collision is too imprecise and clunky for what they designed for. Jump height itself is pitiful. Gliders have odd lag times, and doing the races isn’t even worth the time without Lean Techniques.

So, at best right now, I resent the Adventures. They don’t feel good or fun, because I battle lackluster controls instead of the environment.

At least they’re easy to restart.

I have 34 level 80 characters, and as one might expect from someone who has leveled that many of them, I really don’t mind the process.

So it goes with unlocking elites, which, aside from exploring and catching up on Season Two, is mainly what I’ve been doing in the Heart of Maguuma. I’ve actually been having fun unlocking the elites and have made a sort of minigame of it.

The only issue is group-only hero challenges, which are getting harder to get people together for as more and more players have already done them and the opportunity cost of not doing meta events runs rather high.

I don’t want or expect anyone to drop what they’re doing for me, so I work around the problems with the current system as best I can.

It’s not going to get better over time, so I really think ArenaNet needs to make hero challenges scale properly from solo through groups of any size, and be genuinely challenging at any scale.

There simply isn’t a reasonable argument against doing so.

Well stated.

Mesmer – Deceptive Evasion
This trait is extremely important for both condition and power builds.

Ohgods no. I don’t want dodges overwriting my phantasms at random when I dodge.
Tremendously useful for my various shatter builds, obviously, but when I’m running a full stack, I don’t want my dodge screwing up my clone presence.

Not to mention, Mesmer got a lot of stuff baseline moving into Traits 3.0.

Warrior – Furious
I know many of you will disagree with me and vote for fast hands, but that is simply way too powerful to make baseline just like that. I think adrenaline build up is a far bigger problem. I dont think the condition damage buildup should be included with furious.

Warrior certainly needs something, and Fast Hands is popular. I don’t agree with it (lol stop spamming skills off cooldown), and people would still take Discipline for Warrior’s Sprint, so it wouldn’t free up spec selection as much as people claim.

A base change to adrenaline would be suitable. Perhaps instead of 10 per bar, move it to 8 per bar. It would equate to an increase in gain without something drastic as 2/hit.

A change like that would run a bit foul of the traits and signet that up adrenaline gain, and personally, I don’t have a problem getting it when I need it.

To be honest, Warrior needs buffs across the board (except greatsword), in order to feel useful again.

The Floor is Lava? Adventure

You can get to the top with about 10 seconds to spare to go through the second to last and last (they’re very close to each other) check points. Much more forgiving than A Fungus Among Us and Floor is Lava where every second counts. The former being very frustrating.

I got there with about.. 3 seconds left. XD
About had to shave my tail off to do it, but I did. There’s a lot of time to be gained in using Scramble Egg skill #1 when #3 is on cooldown, so I admit I’ve a long way to go, and I can see spots that I can optimize better.

Especially Sanctum Scramble where I’m not sure if anyone in the game even has bronze.

I did!
…once.
…after probably an hour of swearing.

I can’t imagine getting gold, though. Not without some major tweaks in how responsive the glider is (going to try a ‘hold the space bar’ tip someone pointed out) and using Lean Techniques to gain a few seconds.

Probably applies to Floor is Lava as well. Lean technique should help close gaps between gaining spores and make for more accurate jumps.

Of course, it’d be nice if landing collision worked like it should.

Not sad that Eir’s gone. By the time GW2 came around, she was tremendously soft.

Still, she should have been better written to go down fighting.

And yet, props for that throw vs Faolain~
I just wish she hadn’t gone down like a chump afterward. :\

Seriously Anet, Do You Hate Us That Much?

The blade frogs are all i really don’t like. Their stun-stab needs a telegraph.

This. The internet cannot convey how much I emphatically say THIS.

That aside, I could certainly recommend a number of tweaks to bring a 4/10 enemy design to.. 7/10, at least.

Mordrem hammerdudes: Mostly fine! Slight tweak, lower their break bar amount a tad or open them up to interrupts a little sooner. Even with warrior hammer, I can’t break them fast enough to interrupt their main attack.

Mordrem snipers: I’m reluctant to say they’re fine. They have a good (if frustrating) skill set. Best strat is to hit first, hard CC, and smear them before they push-back. I only really get ticked when there are 3+ on the field and there’s no way to keep an eye on them for all their vanishing. Looking forward to chubbyfrog mastery for that.

The other Mordrem snipers: I’ll admit, I laughed by tail off at their insta-KO vs flying. Cheap as fubar, but amusing once or twice. But, they do fall under the category of “ANet one-shots too much.”

Pocket raptors: Please fix their attack range. That is all.

Rolling devils: I’ve oddly run into two kinds, one with CC enabled, and one that couldn’t. CC-enabled went well enough, but the ones that were CC-immune are just, quite frankly, BS for the amount of damage they do.

Arrowheads and those stupid head-charging dinosaurs: Anything with a hard CC should not spam that CC as a basic attack. This also refers to dust devils and their blind, charging mushrooms, Zojja in Twilight Arbor… If a player had that level of CC-spam, the forums would explode in uproar.
Side note: By making these kinds of CC near-constant, you devalue Stability as a boon or as skillful play. The brief window of allowed action isn’t worth the long cooldowns imposed, and in the end, disappears too soon.

Frog archers: Almost in a good spot, frustrating as it is. The range inhibition is interesting, but again, it’s a no-cooldown ability that players would rage over if confronted with in PvP. Not to mention, they just stand there. Let it be an actual dodge, one affected by endurance drain and Weakness.

Frog stabber: Noted above, there needs to be a suitable tell on the stun-knife. Or make it a daze, so the followup can be dodged. Or tone down the auto-damage from the followup. They’re not terrible aside from a tweak needed on that one facet.

Chak: As a whole, strangely tolerable! They synergize with each other, but are quite manageable on their own.

Mushroom bombers: Reduce the size/duration of the exploding bits. The targeting is fairly impossible to get away from, even with swiftness, so a slower projectile is also in order.

PS: Fix those un-soloable hero points. It’s not a challenge by skill, but by number.

Please undo the adrenaline nerf

Between Cleansing Ire and the elite signet, I don’t have problems gaining adrenaline. I’m usually good with a 3-stack burst when it comes off cooldown.
That said, I’m still not fond of the speed of the drain out of combat. I feel I can go from full to drained in roughly 10 seconds or less. That’s crazy. 1/second would work much better for floating between skirmishes.

I wouldn’t be so frustrated if the controls would be consistent. My glider doesn’t open or close consistently, leading to botched jumps.

Hot tip: Hold space when you jump off a ledge and your glider will open automatically

I will certainly try that!
It will help for Scramble Egg #1 skill and doing suicide dives off the scenery.

Meanwhile, I’m sure I can shave a good 10-15 seconds with Lean Techniques, so I’m waiting for that before trying again.

Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Rauderi.8706

I have my regrets, some lingering, some dissipated.

Blocking off elite specs the way they did.. I was meh on it, but I look forward to building up my characters (and stealing sweet, sweet mastery experience in the process).

Revitalizing some of the rewards in old Tyria actually felt good. I can’t remember the last time I’d seen Orr so busy.

I could do with less Metroidvania in my exploration, but I’ll dig in until I get 100%, anyway. Gliding really is just too fun, sometimes.

Story is much improved. Or at least a little. Spoiler free, the ending of the current chapter is a bit whathefuh, but I genuinely enjoyed a fair portion of it.

So why the regrets?

Enemy design is a repetitive cluster-bomb. Does it say something that the chak are the most tolerable? Mordrem guard are fairly decent, though I have my arguments about the snipers (just a bit :P).
A good 80% of HoT can be summed up in two bullet points:

  • Thief-type enemies that insist on range/evade and spam skills with low/no cooldowns. (Snipers, frog, the triple-deathblossom mordrem)
  • Dinosaur-related enemies that charge-knockdown with low/no cooldowns. (Arrowhead, mushroom charger, Mordrem cavalier, some other dinosaur I can’t recall the name of)

Noting the above, I don’t even regret playing HoT for that, but the combination of playing HoT with poorly designed, one-note mobs and my poor over-nerfed warrior.

Adventures too hard?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Rauderi.8706

I donno if there’s already a thread about this or not, the search function seemed to fail me. So, I’ve started doing as many adventures as I can for the exp and MPs, but some of them seem next to impossible for gold.

Example: Fallen Masks (In Auric Basin). Bronze: 10, easy enough, Silver: 15, again, not too bad, Gold: 25…I can’t even get 20 in the 3 min it gives you let alone 5 more than that. The main issue with this one is that the bouncing mushroom animation is so long, on top of the randomness of your target (which isn’t that big of a deal) it can make for a very frustrating experience. If it was 20 for gold that’d make sense. I’ve barely gotten 19 once, and I can get 18 consistently.

Now, before you say “you must be doing it wrong” (who knows, maybe I am) I’ve gotten gold in all but two I’ve done thus far. The Shooting Range (in VB) and Fallen Masks (as stated above). Anyone else struggling with these two or others? Just seems like no matter how hard I try I can’t even come close to getting gold. Heck, can’t even seem to get silver on the shooting range, but haven’t tried as much there.

I’d like to hear other people’s experiences with adventures, pros and cons. Cheers.

Gold…
Wistful dream. ;_;

Grats, though. I’m usually grinding my teeth to try for Silver, though I’ve only done three so far: Sanctum Scramble, floor is lava?, and the flamethrower one.

I wouldn’t be so frustrated if the controls would be consistent. My glider doesn’t open or close consistently, leading to botched jumps. The perpetual problem of foot-to-ground collision detection is utterly spotty, as it has been since launch.
…actually, that’s about it, but those two are huge when dealing with challenges. (Except Scramble’s utterly pointless Egg Skill #2… wtf with that thing?)

I’m hoping I don’t need 100% of the mastery points for full mastery track completion, because I will kinda lose my kittening mind otherwise.

I blame the hammer and PS for being so strong keeping them from being buffed for the PvP formats and PvE, respectively.

Keying onto this, for truth. Hammer isn’t going to see buffs, unless Revenant is seen as a new baseline.
The Greatsword might-buff machine is pretty much the only acceptable shtick for warriors right now, and that needs to change. Hopefully by adding more synergies to other weapons.

Tell me the truth: Warrior and PVE

in Warrior

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

As someone who doesn’t go Phalanx/Greatsword or ShoutBow, I can say warrior’s in a pitiful spot right now, especially for HoT content.

Our weapon sets in general are meh. Axe is passable, but not good, damage. Hammer damage is nerfed into the ground “because it has CC” and PvP would kew if it got buffed. Sword might have some application in stacking condi for Berserker, but it’s lackluster. Mace and Shield are slow and defensive, which is something ANet clearly doesn’t like in its enemy design.

Other classes, especially elites, are better. Herald and Scrapper knock hammer skills out of the park. The Herald buff machine dwarfs warrior “support”.

The very notion of warrior support and skills has gotten laughable. Banners nerfed. Warhorn nerfed. Shouts work, somewhat. Physical skills are mostly PvP-only and otherwise lame. Stances are on too-long cooldowns.

Given the new content is 50% dinosaur-charging-knockdowns, warrior doesn’t get anywhere near enough Stability to really stay in melee. Which means using rifle or bow for subpar damage.

So.. warrior, not in a good spot. Go Guardian or Revenant until ANet pulls head from orifice and starts buffing something on warrior besides greatsword.

Zerk still has its place for those who can handle dodging and dps in raids, but armor values on mobs have increased across the board in HoT.

Sinister is going to gain in popularity, and quartz is shooting up in price because Celestial/Hybrid builds are getting popular.

Personally, after the huge warrior nerf to condi/boon durations, I look forward to Expertise and Concentration as stats to buoy support boons (and finally get my 100% swiftness uptime back :P).

And yet, I miss out on the Mantra of Resolve call every sparse time it comes up.
But Signet of Inspiration is maddening.

Maybe a 1 minute cooldown on all character chatter?
10 minute cooldown on NPCs?
