Glitches when being in anomaly form

This is kind of an exotic “bug” or more a glitch, yet a quite hilarious one, and I wonder if someone even cares to fix it as it’s not breaking the game – just might cause some confusion to other players.

The description spoils a little about the current rift events, so expand it on your own fault!


As you know, when you jump through the Class I Rift from specific points often enough with a Class II Rift Device set to non-working teleport numbers, you eventually turn into an anomaly form and become a red mob to other players. You’re actually a “clone” of yourself with all skills removed, with your “real” body still lieing downed near the rift.

However, when you now interact with a Box of Fun as an anomaly, you immediately return into normal appearance, but are still a “clone”. Your skills get restored too (now you have a chance to defend yourself against all those attacking players!).

Trying to use items which change skills unequips them immediately, causing some funny effects. E.g., remember the Super Adventure Boom Box, where the character grabs a radio and throws it up as if he worships it – due to being unequipped immediately, instead of the Boom Box your character will throw the weapon in the air, making it animate in this fancy 8-bit style and looking quite awesome.

Turned out I abused all this for a funny screenshot where I stole Sohothin from… “myself”, s. the attachments.

On top of that, the Rift Device can be equipped even when being transformed already (for example, into Costume Brawl animals), which looks pretty odd at times since not all creatures have an arm to hold the device. I just attached a “Power Bunny” I created with that :P

I agree with Blude’s idea of additively providing access to the non-HoT dailies to HoT players.

However, I don’t get how people are skreeking out when they are told to do JPs.
The probably never tried it yet, so let me tell you how most people do the JP achievements: There’s always a Mesmer around portalling you directly to the finish. You do not have to run through the JP. You can just take a portal or a Teleport To Friend item. It takes a minute at most.

Plus you get an achievement if you haven’t done the JP yet.

That’s why I still think the JP dailies should be renamed to “Daily Portal Taker” as most people don’t do them anyway.

Yeah, this also kicked me out unexpectedly once.

  • At first, you get the warning, and you’re in the middle of a bigger event, and decide to postpone it.
  • The “exit” icon appears for some while, but I do another follow-up event because I know the other instance surely isn’t running this event right now.
  • The exit icon disappeared meanwhile, and I also forgot I’m in a closing instance. So I continue to play there.
  • After even more time playing there, I get kicked out without a warning.

That’s pretty confusing at first. A countdown timer should be seen somewhere, all the time. I actually thought the exit icon just stays until I decide to click it, and if it got removed, the instance filled up again and will not get closed anymore.

Can it be this changed just recently? I somehow had a weird feeling when seeing how far my hammers fly when using it in Ember Bay. But it was on uneven terrain.
Not that I dislike it, but yeh.

It has been discussed before too; people wish that when you are unable to login, it should display an “Servers are currently undergoing Maintenance [due to Xxxx]” in the login window.

And then the roll back was just covering 2 hours. Of course that’s a pretty relative statement since you could’ve done the most unique important things in these 2 hours or just lamely complete a map which you can simply repeat. But if it was important, you can still try to contact support, they even offered it to you.

I mean, I remember a company which shall remain unnamed which had to roll back a frigging week.

If any I’d rather prefer titles likes
“Time Rewinder” / “Insane Mesmer” for the lost play time
“King of the Corruption”
“D-OWN 8H” golem title to remember how long the game was down
“Breaking Bank” / “Soul Destroyer” in honor of the original soulbound anomaly / unfixable when moved to bank, with which the issue was originally discovered

But really, there is no need for this. I would’ve liked some slightly cheaper gem offer (maybe in combination for the anniversary items) if at all.

It kicked me out right when I chose “Spit” on some gravestone in Frostgorge Sound. Thought it was my fault :P

Especially since when I tried to login back again, my character suddenly dropped from 82% map completion to 0%, but that was probably just because the server was already not responding sanely anymore.

I bump this since it has not been fixed, sadly.

“Secure the third console” fully filled up, all Inquest were killed. The postprocessing effect of activating this killer weapon happens, but Kasmeer does NOT say “It’s beautiful” while it happens, and then the story is stuck there.
Then the step “Find out what your friends think you should do next” becomes active, but no green stars appears over any head, and talking to them reveals dialog fitting to inquest still being attacking. They just stand around now.

If you need further details (though there’s really nothing special or obvious), just throw a kitten at me.

It worked on a second attempt.

Anyway, when you’re at it (though probably a completely different thing); one model there is far too up and looks bad (s. second image).

Correct graphics settings for AMD FreeSync?

Does anyone here know how to set up the GW2 graphics settings to make it run perfectly with FreeSync?

I bought a monitor supporting 50-70Hz / FPS. My PC system never really drops below 50 FPS (R9 390 with i7 6770), so having too low FPS shouldn’t be a problem.
I also enabled FreeSync in the AMD Settings and my monitor was detected as supported, I can also run the Windmill FreeSync demo perfectly.

But in GW2 it always has some funny issues here and there, whatever configuration I try. I’m running it in real fullscreen at the native resolution and always have the Frame Limiter turned off (it just trashes the FPS rate and makes the game look horrible).

- Without VSync turned on, I get split frames as if I’m not using FreeSync at all, aka half drawn images, something you experience with normal monitors and no VSync too.

- With VSync, that still seems to be the best configuration, though I’m not sure if that’s a correct setup for FreeSync. I get no more split frames, but shouldn’t the video driver handle the refresh rate? Even more annoying is the fact that if I open the Hero Panel, the FPS sometimes drop to 25 or lower, as if the Hero Panel 3D view of the character causes another main backbuffer flip on which my monitor waits or something…

So if someone runs GW2 with FreeSync, I’d love to know the settings which worked best for him =)

Okay, another time me.
It happened all over again in the recent 2 weeks. As if saying it doesn’t happen again made it come out again.

Now I decided to film it once more, as it got ridiculous in the today’s JP task.

No, the lags in between were not caused by my computer. They happen when the game is about to vomit. You can see worse hickups midway through. Until I finally get teleported to a completely random position.

Just wanna give an update on this. I didn’t have this bug anymore since I reported this the second time.

Though it still makes me wonder: Why did it happen only at very random times until I restarted the game?

I can personally tell my weird collision detections back in the days when I wrote indie games were much worse, but this bug reminded me of them xD

Since I never had it anymore… priority drops beyond low I guess.

Yeah, same here. Also, the airship daily activity is a different one, crab toss. I thought there’s only one activity each day, for all?

Noticed that funny cash banner before at other dialogs which immediately close (for whatever reason) when they should pop up (you can hear both the open and close sounds if you listen carefully).

Theoretically possible. They might manipulate game packets to contain data in a bad format, directed towards your client, which then somehow passes the server but cannot be correctly interpreted (or misinterpreted) by your client -> crash you.

That makes me really worry.

I agree on /reset or /kill. It is really infuriating to lose hours of work for an achievement just for a stupid collision bug (which, no matter how well you design levels, can happen somewhen, somewhere to someone, and that guy will love you for /kill).

Just see my thread about a problem which we could have easily solved ourselves by just typing five characters!

I can actually tell that the invisibility buff should work, it did for me and 2 others, we just ran straight through the Hillbilly’s after collecting it in infantile mode.

That’s quite amazing, that old RivaTuner tool Farming Flats mentioned works perfect. No need to configure anything special (even app detection level can be kept at Low), just add Gw2 executable, set up the FPS limit and remove stats display. Done!

Of course getting a better cooler for my CPU somewhen soon will help me with solving the root of this problem on long-term, but until then, I can solve it via software.

I experienced similar behavior in the SAB Worlds. It happens at almost every ledge, though it doesn’t teleport me into the sky and I couldn’t reproduce a kill yet.

Maybe it’s related. Here’s a video, happens twice in it.

How to limit max. FPS to custom value?

Does anyone know how to correctly limit the maximum FPS to custom values other than the pre-defined ones?

What I tried which doesn’t work:

  • Using the “-fps 40” parameter and launch GW2 with it as documented in the wiki.
  • Using the “AMD Frame Target Control” which allows you to limit the FPS in most games.
  • Using an external application like “D3D Antilag”.
  • Adding a “40” enum value into the options in “%APPDATA%\Guild Wars 2\GFXSettings.Gw2(-64).exe.xml”, but that just seems to be an output log file storing the last settings / start up parameters rather than an input file.

Results:
None of those work as expected. It works as long as I am on the character selection screen, but as soon as I load the map, the setting from the game options (“Unlimited”, “60” or “30”) “overrides my override” again.
For me this feels like a bug, as the game should give priority to a possibly set “-fps” parameter. That issue has its own thread here. As I read from the words of the OP, it once worked exactly like that, but does not anymore.

Reason to do this:
My CPU gets a little too hot at 60 FPS (Intel at 89°C rather than max. recommended 80°C-85°C), causing annoying lag spikes of it throttling every few seconds. 30 FPS is too choppy. 40 or 50 would be perfect to prevent the overheat.
(Of course, another solution for me is to limit graphics quality settings which cause the overheat, but that’s the last thing I want to do. A typical setting are “Ultra” shadows which eat much CPU power for me, but the visual difference of “High” shadows is much bigger and looking worse than just having 10 frames less every second.)

Optimal solution:
A “dream” would be to have a slider for the FPS limit, at least in steps of 10 for a first, from 30 to 60 (or any higher) and then “Unlimited” in the last step. Or just new entries in the combo box to keep the amount of changes needed for that low.

I experienced very insane behavior in my game on saturday which didn’t go away until I restarted it. I wanted to file an in-game report, but didn’t know how to describe it with just text, so here goes my post.

Basically, through jumping in a specific way with space bar held down, my character got teleported into the sky for only a few frames and then teleported back alive, or teleported to the maps “origin” with being killed.

Detailled description:

I previously waypointed to Blazeridges Steppes > Tumok’s Waypoint and headed directly east. There is a small upwards-slope to its right. I ran over it, jumping like a Grawl (as I’m used to do that). I also held space bar down to activate my glider at all jumps which I think was a requirement to trigger the bug.

Right when I passed the tree east to the WP, my screen flickered as I saw my character right up in the sky, gliding for just 3 or 4 frames, then I was reset back on the floor. S. this image for the exact place and where I jumped over that small hill.

I was able to reproduce this by jumping over the hill again, but it worked at random times and not in a way I can give exact instructions. It had to do with jumping right over that hill’s ledge right near the tree.

I walked further east and experienced a more serious problem with another ledge. This time I not only saw my character appear in the sky for a few frames, I also did not get teleported back on the floor. Instead, I got killed and teleported to what seems to me the bottom-left most, down-most position of the map (probably its origin coordinate). It just looked like this in the end.

Here’s an image of the path I took with the spots marked.

Later on, this also happened to me in Malchor’s Leap. I sadly did not make screenshots, but I can try to find the exact spots again if required (one was at the exit after the Jinx Island event happened, when I tried to jump into water – I got killed and teleported right when touching the waters surface).

After I restarted my game, I could never reproduce this bug. My game previously ran for around 4 hours I guess, but I am not aware of anything which might have caused this as .

Further info about the bug and my character (if you need any more details, please contact me):

  • American PvE megaserver (my characters are in Blackgate)
  • Time of bug in Blazeridge: 26.03.2016, at 18:55 server time (shatterer was about to spawn).
  • Time of bug in Malchor’s Leap: 26.03.2016, at 20:04 server time.
  • Level 80 Charr Berserker, Ironclad Glider
  • Had 25% swiftness due to Warrior’s Sprint specialization and wielding a sword.

Yeah, I observed that behavior too. It’s still current. As soon as I select a character and the map loads, the FPS parameter stops having an effect and the in-game options setting is used. The parameter works only while in the character selection screen.

That’s probably why it’s a parameter; otherwise there could’ve been a slider in the options to adjust it more freely, but 30 / 60 FPS is probably said to be good enough and everything else is not maintenanced for being correctly implemented.

I’d actually love that parameter to work again to not grill my computer in summer and still play at kinda-fluent 40 FPS (much better than 30). If I limit it to 60, my PC just gets too hot.
