About the region… You can always try one, play for a bit and see how it works with a throwaway character, and if it doesn’t work too great, delete that character and change regions (server transfer is free if you don’t have any characters, though you might have to wait a week since it’s timegated to prevent abuse). Items in your bank tab as well as your gold will be preserved.

If you have any questions, just throw them at the forums, most people here are happy to help a newbie find their way around the game.

Out of curiosity, what CPUs do you and your brother have? GW2 is picky when it comes to that, so the GPU might not be the problem.
Though I think I remember someone else recently having problems with a GTX 980. If only the search function wouldn’t refuse to work again…

Oh, and do you have vertical synch activated? Because that can cause FPS to go to hell, too, sometimes.

So… what if one does not enjoy dungeons, but killing things? You know, because it’s (insert shocked gasp) fun? :O

The Rowanwoods in Caledon Forest have a herd of raptors that used to annoy the hell out of me when I tried harvesting the lettuce there with my low-level characters. Slay a few of them for me, will you?^^

There are waypoint codes for outposts already in the game, and several times devs talked about new zoneS, so I’d guess we get more than one.
A comparable region, level-wise, would be Orr, which has three zones. I’d expect something along those lines, plus at least one town (probably the one where the Mursaat reside, possibly a second Grove). Either way, Silverwastes and Dry Top are already there, so in total, it would be a new region with five zones, three of which would be HoT exclusive.

Desolation Server Full

WvW means exactly that. You open the WvW window where you will see your server and two others in various statistics. You can click on the button of any of the three borderlands or Eternal Battlegrounds (those are the areas where the servers sight each other) and get transported to that map to join the fight. This is the only time when you will play against your friends, if you pick another server, because they are part of another army, if you will.

In PvE, there are no restrictions to who you can play with other than server region (a.k.a. where your data gets processed, EU or NA). Likewise, anyone on any server in your region can join your guild, go in dungeons with your or play PvP with you.
The way the game is set up works kind of like this: All players in one region get lumped into a pool. Then, when they log in, the game looks at a number of factors – guild membership, friends who are online, the language they picked on installation and so on. Now let’s say you want to go to Wayfarer Foothills with your character, and 1,000 other players want to go there, too. Each map can support a limited number of players, let’s say 100, so the game takes those 1,000 players and sorts them into ten or so different copies of Wayfarer Foothills. People in the same guild will likely end up on the same copy, people in a group will end up on the same copy, people who have their game set to the same language will and so on, until the maximum number of players is playing on a copy, and a new one gets created. There are always players entering and leaving the map, so usually, the individual copies won’t be full, so if you end up on a different copy of the map than a friend you wanted to play with, you can join that friend’s map copy, or they can join yours.
This system means that outside the WvW mode, where your home server determines which side you fight on, you can play with anyone you like, like I said above.

If there’s anything else you want to know, ask away, that’s what the forums are for

Hm, From what I understand:
When I get into server “X”, I get into certain region that determined on my details(guild, friend list in game, etc. [ I think ? ] ) .
And If my friend get into server “Y” or any other server with the same region as mine(That he is on my guild, friend list . etc), we can see each other and play together PvE or PvP.

But on WvW its determined on the Servers. Beacause they need to fight each other, So we cant fight together . but we may can fight each other.

And that mean. players that i see now on my server may be from another server?

That’s pretty much it, yes.

The more factors match, the more likely it is that two players end up on the same copy of a map, but if all else fails, there is always the “Join in…” option.

And no, you can’t be sure what server somebody is from unless you ask them in PvE. The players on any given map could be from Aurora Glade, Elona Reach, Desolation, Riverside… any server, really, though the game is supposed to put people from German servers together, then those from French servers and so on. It gets a little confused at times, I sometimes end up on Spanish servers for whatever reason, but usually, it works well enough.

Desolation Server Full

Red Queen.7915

“Connectivity issues” means that some people might be unable to log into their accounts, it has nothing to do with getting on a server with a brand new account.

GW2 has a megaserver system, meaning that people get put on maps based on factors like home world, language, guild membership and a few other things, to avoid empty maps if a server has very few active players in some areas. But a player can also freely switch between the different versions of the same map. The game does not put up strict borders between servers, meaning that, for example, you can end up on the same PvE map as someone from Elona Reach while you play on Abbadon’s Mouth because you are in the same guild. If you want to play with someone else and get sorted into different maps, join their party, right-click their character icon and select “Join in [name of map]” to get onto the same map shard.
Your home world only matters when WvW is concerned, which pits server against server on special maps that are not part of the normal PvE experience.

To get on Desolation, you will need to wait for a spot to open, so yes, another player needs to leave the server for that to happeb. But it’s not guaranteed that you will get that spot, because there is no “waiting list”, and someone else might be faster than you. Getting on a server that is full is pretty much a gamble.

Everyone seems to think their problem is more important than those of other people. CS is swamped at the moment, so it takes a bit longer than usual, but replies still seem to arrive within a reasonable time frame.
You also seem to think CS is made up entirely of robots. I doubt it’s possible to handle “hundreds or thousands of tickets” per day for any single person. If a ticket takes five minutes to get through, that’s over 8 hours of work for a hundred tickets, and that’s not taking into account that reviewing evidence, particularly in suspension and ban cases, likely takes a lot longer than that.

GW2 is not, and never has been, a P2W model, no matter if the winning occurs in the game or in the CS queue. I hope the model you suggested will never be implemented. It’s a horrible idea. SWTOR has this terrible system where you need a subscription to even post on the forums, never mind submit a ticket as a non-subscriber (preferred status suffers from this as well), and the free hotline is apparently manned by a single person in each region, causing wait times of up to six hours. No thanks. I’d rather spend my money on shiny stuff from the gem shop.

It’s not a bug, the server is full, as in, it’s reached its maximum capacity of active accounts. You can’t play on Desolation until someone transfers to another server and you manage to snatch their spot before someone else does.

Server choice only matters in WvW, though. You can play everything else with your friends, even if you are on another server. If you want to start playing and get to know the game, pick another server, start playing and camp Desolation for open spots. Then put all your non-soulbound stuff in your bank, delete your characters and transfer for free, if you don’t want to pay gems to do so.

Kidding, but I suppose the “build what you need” mix-n-match option is the most reasonable. You can get the bare essentials with small-ish guilds, but if you want a home cinema and a jacuzzi (or, well, a theatre stage and hot spring…), you’ll need to be prepared to part with some extra gold.

LFG and JPs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Queen.7915

(Can we play Spot the Strawman? Because I found one…)

I also never said you can’t form a group for no reason, since there is a tab in LFG for open world content. What I did say was that I’ve seen previous discussions of this particular topic, and from the staff posts about the matter, I think LFG is not a tool to sell JP chests (I also happen to not like the dungeon sellers, but since “Dungeons” is a category in the tool, it’s not an inherently wrong way of using it).
The mechanics of dungeons and JPs are also different, in that only one group can finish the dungeon before the seller has to solo it again to sell it to the next group, but a JP seller has the option to sell the chest to an infinite amount of people after putting in the work of reaching the chest once, which defeats the purpose of forming a goal-oriented party (which is what LFG is for).
You’re free to disagree, but OP seemed to want opinions and/or official statements on the matter, so that’s what they got.

Fallout 3 and Skyrim do the same thing, but alt-tabbing solves the problem (most times, anyway). You could always give it a try…

I never said a JP can’t be done as a group, I said the LFG tool was not designed with this bit of content in mind, which is why I would assume, from previous staff posts about the matter, using it like that is at the very least frowned upon.
I might be wrong, though, but from what I read, it would seem JPs are also part of the “don’t sell in LFG” content.

That doesn’t matter in this case. A dungeon is group content by design, and the LFG tool was made with that in mind. A JP is not designed as a group challenge, so there’s no place for it in the tool.

LFG and JPs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Queen.7915

It’s still the design that matters. Dungeons are designed to be done in a group. JPs are designed to be done solo (as in, you do not need another player to play this bit of the game the way it was intended). I think there was an official statement on this a while back that explained this. LFG is for group content as defined by the game’s mechanics, so even if you ask for gold to invite somebody into your group, that’s tolerated so long as it’s for actual group content, whereas advertising something that’s not intended as group content (whether or not gold is involved is irrelevant) is not; mainly because it muddles the actual function of the LFG tool by allowing solo content in there as well.
Besides, if you want to sell JP ports, you can do so in mapchat just fine. Chances are more people will notice it there anyway.

[Suggestion] Race Reroll Token

Red Queen.7915

The assumption that many people want it is as unfounded as the assumption that nobody wants it. What we do here is discuss it and state our opinions on the matter. The desired outcome is a decision on Anet’s part which path to pursue – race change or no race change. Since making it happen would mean that something else would not happen, possibly something those against a race change really want to see, it’s less “poo poo-ing” on other people’s wishes, but a signal that there are also people who do not want resources devoted to this particular feature.
Simple as that.

People actually go back and read about their personal story? I think this item would sell quite a few gems and wouldn’t be surprised to see this feature in the future.

Yes, they do^^
I like that I have a story that’s not entirely generic. Having the option to change it by changing my race would somewhat cheapen this aspect of the game for me.

Weren’t there a few asura with hair in GW1 already? I think Oola even has excessive amounts of it…

It probably would make sense for an underground race that went as far as to not have visible breast when not breastfeeding to not have head hair that’s completely useless. But then again, humans managed to get rid of most furry parts and yet we kept huge amounts of fuzz on our heads that makes very little sense (but looks good).

That said, I’d love to keep my hair when using certain helmets (with any race, really). Even a generic “bangs” model that adjusts to my chosen hair colour would suffice. Just… don’t pull a Zojja on me ._.

It’s that a few story steps have been removed, but not entirely, so the narrative seems a little strange at times and references stuff that never happened. The lore is still fine, it’s just… like reading a book where the author has decided to remove a chapter, but accidentally left a few paragraphs in.
Either way, official word is that they are in the process of restoring the plotline in question (“My Greatest Fear”), but don’t have an official release date yet.

It won’t impact the Living Story in any way, lore-wise or story-wise; those two things are only connected in that the PC is the main character in both.

[Suggestion] Race Reroll Token

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Queen.7915

Red Queen.7915

Things do not “need to happen” just because someone wants them. At the end of the day, any decision that is made has to be somewhat profitable, and weighing the huge effort it takes to make a race change possible in a game where your race determines the story you’re playing (to a point, but still) against the possible monetary gain will probably get one result: It’s not worth it.

Some decisions should be made carefully, like race and profession. You can’t change either, that is a known fact, and so one should consider their options and pick something they are likely to stick with. Or make throwaway characters, for keyfarming or story achievements, but then don’t spend tons of gold to level crafting or gear them up.
It can always happen that one gets tired of a character, but I doubt that those cases warrant the effort it would take to make it possible to change something as fundamental as your characters race.

Sorry, I didn’t know when making an asura or charr that Anet gave a kitten about how armor looks on them. If I had known I never would have made any of my characters anything other than human/norn/sylvari.

If I were that concerned about how my character will look at level 80, I would go look at some armour on the wiki, or google some images, or make use of the preview function right after my tutorial mission.
It is certainly possible to see whether or not one finds a certain race appealing, style-wise, before leveling the character to 80, if looks are such an important factor in one’s decision whether or not to level a character to max level. Going through the trouble to implement a race change item solely for those who didn’t take a minute to do this strikes me as even more unnecessary, and I’d rather they don’t devote resources to this that could be better used elsewhere.

Like Crimson Clouds said, it’s really easy (not to mention fast) to level a new character, and as soon as they have the “new” trait system ready, those restrictions won’t apply any longer and it’ll be even easier. As for the crafting professions, just keep the character as an alt. And no, this does not “force” you to pay any extra cash, since you would’ve bought the race changer anyway, and that item would likely be as expensive as a character slot, anyway.

3. Go to your bank. Select the wardrobe tab on the left. Pick armour class. Go nuts with the entirety of the skins available in the game. Also, this: http://argos-soft.net/GW2/ArmorGallery/

4. Do not, I reapeat, do NOT ever put freakishly expensive runes in karma gear or gear purchased in WvW with Badges of Honour. You cannot salvage those armour pieces and won’t get the runes back.

Cool medium armour skins… Inquest and Whispers^^ Though for the Whispers one you’ll need to be a member of the Order of Whispers (obviously).

In any case, as long as she has the serial number and access to the email address that was used to create the account, she can (and should) submit the ticket herself.

What's a guild mission?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Red Queen.7915

Red Queen.7915

Side note: We’ve done it with less than 15 people, but it’s harder and takes some luck in regards to which mission(s) you get.

Most guilds have set times when they do their set of missions (provided they even have an interest in doing them). For example, my guild + alliance does it on Sundays at 19:30, rush, puzzle, bounty, challenge (nobody ever wants to do trek ). Other guilds prefer Saturday, as evidenced by the countless people asking in mapchat for the bounty mobs^^

Point is, someone has to organise it, and if nobody in any of your guilds does, you’ll have to take it in your own hands. Though if none of your guilds have even researched those missions, you can organise a lot, but can’t do the missions anyway. Researching the missions costs influence and merits (save for the bounty, which only costs influence and is the first you can unlock, because no missions – no merits).

Because they don’t do namechanges on request. Only if you put your real-life name or address or something there (though one has to wonder why on earth someone would do that…).

How is it unfair? You don’t have to buy it, after all.

Also, is there any info about there actually being a white feather back piece? oO

I noticed three things here. First is 50 heavy bags is kinda low for 5-8 hours of WvW play, maybe reroll Guardian or Necro. Second, don’t spend if you want to save. Third, 5-8 hours per day is a lot of time spent in game.

I would only really worry about that last thing.

Shouldn’t have to reroll to play a game effectively.

All profs should be equally viable.

They are all viable, it’s just that for looting, some professions are better than others. Specifically, those with some sort of AoE autoattack or tons of AoE damange in general. Guardians have staff #1 to tag an entire zerg and receive loot for all of them, and a necro can throw down a ton of marks and tag a lot of players that way.
That’s what this means, not that some professions are not viable.

Looking for someone to play with!

You might want to take a look at the “Looking for…” section of the forum. Guilds are advertising there, and if you don’t find the kind you’re looking for, make a post detailing what you’re looking for in a guild (including your server and/or language) and see if somebody answers (spoiler: someone always will^^).

A guild is really the best way to find people to play with. Guilds who say they’re taking newbies won’t mind getting bombarded with questions, and most guilds have Teamspeak or some other method of verbal communication.

Other than that, mapchat is also a good place to ask questions. Sometimes some nitwit will make snide comments, but most people are really nice and helpful.

But the devs know this, and it’s going to be changed again. Soon, I hope. Playing any caster class without traits is a nightmare -.-

new legendary weapon?

I doubt there will be many new mats, if any at all. Seeing as there have been a few in the game for over a year now that aren’t actually there yet (Xunlai Electrum ingot and Crystalline (?) ingot), I suppose any other future stuff we would have seen already.

Anyway, hoarding T6 mats is not the worst idea one could have. At the very least, the old legendaries will still ask for them in bulk, and since those precursors will be obtainable from a collection/scavenger hunt/something other than RNG with HoT, I suspect people will still make them. And if the new ones also need the current T6 stuff, prices will probably spike at least a little, depending on how easy it will be to obtain the mats in the new maps.

I would assume new Gifts of X will be needed, obtainable through the new content, or simply added in for the old dungeons (though I’d be a little disappointed if that were the case).

What is they point here? You spend every coin that you earn and complain that you cannot get rich?

Learn to save. That is the trick to get rich. Not how much you earn.

Seconded.
This seems to be OPs biggest problem. Don’t compulsively buy shiny stuff you probably don’t even want in the long run, and your problem will solve itself. And always, always put in buy orders, possibly a copper or so lower than the highest one. Doesn’t make that much of a difference, but if you later realise “oh, no, I don’t actually want this”, you can cancel the buy order and get your money back if it’s still there, and at least half of the time, it will be.
Your problem is not that you’re not making a hundred gold a day, it’s that you don’t know how to hold on what you do have. Get the hang of that – boom, sudden fortune :>

Expansion jobs char slots?

Considering that I blew more than 300€ on Sims games alone, that doesn’t sound so expensive anymore…^^

And I purposely refrained from keeping track of how much cash I spent on gems here. Considering I don’t have to pay a subscription fee (around… 400€ so far which I did not have to spend, going by the usual 12,99/month), I can just as well have some fun with shiny stuff from the shop. It’s still less than what I used to spend on books and DVDs a few years back, so no guilt here

And sure as hell no guilt for flaunting my fabulous wings

Well, it’s nobody’s fault but your (general “you” here) own if you missed the part of the announcement where it said the wings were not limited to a single day sale and bought them “just in case”.
It’s also nobody’s fault if you bought them and now get irritated because “everyone has those, it’s boring”. Because frankly, if your biggest worry is that you might wear the same thing as somebody else, your issues are bigger than a pair of wings in a video game…

And judging by the amount of people rocking those wings (myself included), it’s not most players who feel about them this way^^

Response time for GW1 tickets is atrocious

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Red Queen.7915

Red Queen.7915

Actually, nowhere in the ToS does it say "we will answer all tickets within [X amount of time], and if we don’t you’re entitled to a refund" or anything along those lines.

GW is going on ten years now. How many ten-tear-old, non-subscription bases (read: generating a steady profit) games still have support? And if so, how long does it take to get an answer there?

The team working on GW is probably tiny, a skeleton crew. It’s bound to take a while to get to anything out of a set schedule, and getting snappy toward CS because of it won’t help you get an answer any faster.

They are still doing it because there are still people falling for it. Even the notification that it’s not an official message does not seem to be enough. If people would stop to think for a second instead of getting into full panic mode immediately, they might actually notice something fishy is going on, and these pitiful attempts would stop eventually.

It’s like the idiots who are still trying to make me buy viagra. Obviously, there are people who go buy “legit stuff” after getting those emails, and I have to suffer for it -.-

So pleasepleaseplease people, stop believing everything somebody tells you, and make sure that somebody is actually authorised to say these things before you go on and do stuff you will regret later.

Biggest difference would be that mesmers are casters and thieves are adventurers (obviously^^).
Mesmers use clones and phantasms to distract and confuse (and literally apply confusion to) their opponents or just shatter their illusions to deal a ton of damage at once. In melee, they rely on dodging, blocking and evasion to avoid damage.

Thieves are kinda-sorta assassins. They can be played similar to mesmers in melee, with dodges and evades, but can just as well rely on their invisibility, shadow stepping and cc skills to surprise their enemies and keep them from dealing any damage. Their shortbow skills grant them great mobility (which the mesmer sadly lacks), but need initiative to be used, which recharges at a set rate.

That would be it in a nutshell, I guess. Depending on your build, both classes can feel kind of similar, but also vastly different when in the active game. As usual, I would suggest going into PvP to take a look at their traits and maybe practice a few mechanics on the dummies in Heart of the Mists.

Thief has en elite skill to summon two other thieves (NPCs), who shoot and stab your enemy, respectively. Sadly, no dual-pistol wielding clones. Thieves do, however, have access to lots of cc and invisibility.
