Nothing tells you where to go because the game isn’t linear in that regard. You can level to 30 or 40 without leaving the starter maps and then head on to the level 25 maps. You can move from map to map as soon as you hit the recommended level. You can do your first story chapters as soon as the notification pops up. You can go to WvW anyway, regardless of your level (though prepare to get crushed in a fight), just go to Lion’s Arch and head to the gates that lead to the borderlands. And if you prefer PvP, you can do that and use your rewards (Tome of Knowledge, specifically) to level up your character and then start exploring high-level maps immediately.
There’s really not much you have to do in a certain way or order. Exceptions would be dungeons (which get “unlocked” for you at certain levels, lowest dungeon level being 30 for story and 35 for explorable mode) and fractals, which are endgame content and you need to be level 80 before heading there. Most other stuff can be done whenever.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
People frequently forget that all the content that “must” now be bought used to be available for free, and continues to be free, if you logged in just once for every episode.
That is not “P2W”, it is Anet giving you an option to get access to content you missed after it has been taken “out” of the game. Very few, if any, other MMOs give you this chance.
And of course HoT content and features will be tied to you buying the expansion. Its expansion specific content, anyway. Might be that some stuff will be accessible for all somehow (PvP and WvW maps will be), but that’s not even a must. One also had no access to the Nightfall and Factions campaigns in GW1 if one did not buy them. I remember there being a lot less complaining back then.
If all the stuff from HoT would be available for free for “those who didn’t buy the expansion”, why would anyone ever pay for it?
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Yes, if you, or anyone else, uses a different IP address, it will notify you and ask for permission.
It probably used to ask you because you always logged in with different IPs. I had that, too, for a while, and now it hasn’t asked me to verify a login attempt in months.
Probably nothing after all.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
If OP has no idea what they are doing, overclocking might not be the best course of action. However, GW2 is perfectly playable (with great FPS, too) with non-OC’ed equipment, if the base specs are good enough.
And with a budget of up to 2k$, you can get some pretty great stuff.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Is it email or mobile authenticator? The email one saves your networks, and if you log in from the same network, it won’t ask you again. You have to clear the list manually from time to time.
If it’s mobile, sorry, no idea, I don’t use that. But it’s still in beta, according to the website, so it could be abug and nothing worse.
Did you submit a ticket? That might be prudent if you suspect you might be on the verge of getting hacked. Also, maybe change your password, just to be sure.

They will come back in the future, though there is no info yet when that will be.
As was announced via the blog post, the one-day sale items were a sneak peek of “future items”.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
You mean in the preview window, or in the actual game? I noticed this only in previews so far.
As for images, take a screenshot, upload it somewhere and go to “more formating options” via the link below the comment window. You’ll find the options to share an image url there.
Or attach it to your post via the “attachments” option.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Don’t titles also give you points? You can always farm reputation. Just get the buff and kill things. Takes a while, but is probably the easiest way.
That or get lucky with your minis. Uhm. That sounds wrong… I mean be lucky enough to get all rarities and display them.

Priorities. GW2 got a lot of new players lately, and that means a lot more support requests to wade through. GW2 is the newer game with more active players, so those requests get handled first. I’m sure they’ll get to your request eventually. Sucks that it takes so long at the moment, but at least there’s still GW1 support at all.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Considering that I can throw water at a building and demolish it that way, it’s probably safe to say that logic long went out the window^^
Did this happen with the last patch? Becuase I’m pretty certain I could just recently use warhorn 4 to destroy structures in PvE.

Well, there are just those days, I guess we both had one today^^
Full servers remain full until another player transfers (among other things, Anet don’t exactly give all the details about the system used to determine a server’s capacity). Since Blackgate is pretty popular, I’m afraid your only chance is to camp it until a spot opens. Though if you don’t want to play WvW with your friends, you can have any home server and still play with them in PvE and PvP. Just group with them and join their map, or have them join yours.
If you want to mess around in the game until there’s a spot on Blackgate available, you can create some characters now and just play, then delete them all later to transfer to Blackgate for free. Your gold and stuff in your bank will still be there after transfer (except soulbound items).
As for the CS wait time thing, it’s not CS deliberately delaying the response, it’s the system that automatically puts all your tickets together at the end of the queue. Which is why updating a ticket instead of creating a new one is the better course of action.

Now that escalated quickly oO
So fictional characters (in the public domain, mind you, so not against the naming policy) and scientific principles named after them are now suggestive when the original piece of fiction was kinda suggestive sometimes. Got it.
So… are bookshelves suggestive now? Because I’m pretty sure I’ve seen porn with bookshelves in the background. I mean, the shelves weren’t doing anything suggestive, but I’m sure being in a porno somehow made them naughty, right?
Wait, I’ve got actual porn on my bookshelves. Dang. That’s unfortunate… Anyway, my point still stands, and I sincerely doubt my name is in any way suggestive.
Look, I just meant to a) explain why your name got changed and b) what you can do to avoid this issue in the future (though maybe I my tone was a little snide; I’ve got a headache, I’m moody). Obviously, and that doesn’t even have anything to do with the case at hand, no-one from staff thought my name was inappropriate, and surely the number of players who looked at it and thought “woah now, that’s not okay!” is tiny, if these people exist at all.
“Porn Stache” is an entirely different thing, and you should be aware that anything similar will get the same treatment (in case of a character, that would be the game asking you to rename the toon before you can proceed to play with it).
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
(edited by Red Queen.7915)
Just now I’m reading about this bug and I’m very jelous. Never played GW1 but I really want these skins.
I expect Anet fixes this issue soon (a partial roll back or creating a new section for achievements and deleting the old one HoM achievements) or, maybe, they could give me those points too… e___e Equal opportunities for everyone!
Weeell, you can still buy the game and get those points
I myself still play every now and then. It’s not the most shiny MMO out there, but definitely worth playing.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
It’s always the Chantry. Always. People don’t even need to see the list of what you have to know you’ve missed it or it hasn’t registered so you have to go back in.
I commented long ago that we need a sticky titled “Your Last Poi is Chantry of Secrets” and I still stand by that
I second this idea^^
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Oh, come on. I meant to roll a sylvari warrior today. So it’s waiting until this is fixed or risking a ban? Is there any official word on this? Can I just go ahead, possibly get achievements I never earned and just expect them to get the APs taken away again soon, plus whatever I may get for reaching a threshold?

Well, if you had read the ToS, you would have known not to name yourself “Porn Stache” in the first place. Suggestive names like this are against ToS, so yes, they renamed you because your name was inappropriate.
They did not “let you know” they changed it because you’d see it soon enough anyway. They don’t have to let you know. They don’t even have to rename you, they could just ban you.
And no matter how many emails you write to CS, you won’t get your old name back, period. Switching a few numbers around probably won’t help, either, since the meaning is still clear. Otherwise we could all just get around this rule (that we all agreed to, by the way) by switching letters and numbers around.
Also, a piece of advice for the future: Don’t give your characters names like that, either. Also not allowed.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
It’s not part of Bloodtide Coast. It’s got a portal going there, so it’s a separate area.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
This is going to be one hairy topic…
Personally, I never made a connection to disability when hearing that line. Like Grand, stale and RoseOfGilead, I think it goes more along the lines of asura seeing any other species as intellectually inferior (just like the charr see themselves as the most technologically advanced species), with the added bonus of the individual in question being extra stupid for attacking my character.
Now one can read the asura’s arrogance as inherently ableist. Then I’m also ableist for thinking I’m smarter than a lot of people. But combined with asura lore, this attitude and the “threat” emote are an observation of the enemy’s inability to analyse a situation methodically and come to the right conclusions – the enemy failed to deduce that attacking me is not smart, and my toon merely states the consequences of this action. I would never dream of associating this with threatening someone with a mental disability.
Also, to those who talk about “getting a thicker skin” etc.: Congratulations, you skipped class the day they explained how emotions work. No-one is immune to this kind of thing. Everyone has some stuff that will always hurt them, we just have different ways to deal with it. OP sees this threat emote as hurtful. I disgaree with the observation that it’s inherently ableist because I see it in context of asura lore, but OP still has the right to feel this way, no matter what you or I think about the subject.
Whether Anet has an obligation to remove this line when most players don’t see it as problematic is debatable, though we can certainly talk about it.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
(edited by Red Queen.7915)
Nope. Not a feature. It’s a bug that sneaked in with the last big patch.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Well, I suppose it’s just a matter of taste. I like most slyvari faces just fine, and managed to make three very different looking ones. My thief looks decidedly mischievous, not cute. My ranger looks a little serious, and my mesmer has a nice perpetual smirk that I like very much.
These are just base faces, after all. If you want something more unique, you pretty much have to use the sliders. It usually takes a while, but I have yet to see a face I couldn’t work with.
Personally, I’m more miffed that my asura ladies don’t have access to the scarred face from the patch. Would be great for my necro or guardian, but no, dude only. Same with the dreadlock hair. Why does that even matter, we’re talking about a race where there is virtually no visual distinction between male and female. Not cool. I want my grisly-looking, hammer-swinging SPAM of death
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Try setting your status to invisible and then to online again. Then cram all your chats (map, say, guild…) into the first chat window. That’s what helped me get my guild chat back without the tab-switching problem, though it’s hella confusing when I sit in Lion’s Arch -.-
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
The good thing is, there are so many people reporting bugs in the forum, I guess with the next update they’ll all get fixed. So… no problem for me at all, just keep reporting the bugs in the forum and you will be heard! :P
That may be so, but the sheer amount of bugs present in this patch makes the whole ‘the 10/3 patch is delayed for QA testing’ spiel laughable.
Unless they got sick of people’s whining and released it early. Probably to teach us not to mess with QA ;P
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
This isn’t about people “playing open world”, it’s about people not playing, but at the same time making it more difficult for people who do play, and taking up spots for players who would like to actively join the event but can’t.
That’s the difference and what’s annoying people. Not those who run around escorting pack bulls or doing the jumping puzzle, because they don’t scale up the events.
So far, the best suggestion, in my oponion, was to make a very short timer that activates in an event radius, and when it reaches zero, it teleports any inactive players to the nearest uncontested waypoint (so anyone with a legit emergency can run back and doesn’t get kicked off a good map). That way, the scaling could be kept at a minimum while still allowing people to react to pressing real-life matters and not get “punished”. And if someone is afk for longer, they get booted from the map one way or another, making room for other players. Maybe that timer could be tied to how full the map is – if it’s half empty, the usual timer kicks in, but if it’s full, you get the “you will be kicked in 5 minutes” notification after 30 seconds or one minute of not doing anything (no chatting, no selling stuff, no moving around etc.)
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Elementalists is probably the most versatile of the three caster classes. Long-range, mid-range and “melee” weapons are available, they are good for PvE, PvP and WvW (depending on weapon set and build), and it’s entirely possible to kill most things in PvE before they can even touch you. Staff ele has damage and healing skills and is very noob-friendly, in my opinion, and everything else can be slowly learned as you go along.
Necromancer has both the highest health pool in the game (along with warrior) and a second health pool – Death Shroud. Beasties got the better of you? Hop in Death Shroud and start again with full “health”. Can be played at long-range, mid-range, melee range (with actual melee weapons this time), and can hit very hard (depending on the build, of course). Not too popular in dungeons, but you can get around that by simply creating your own group. Fun in PvP. Also very noob-friendly.
Mesmer is squishy as hell and needs a lot of patience until level 30 when you start getting traits. Again, long-range, mid-range and melee available. Fun class, good for PvP (and annoying as hell when you’re in the other team), but decidedly not noob-friendly.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Maybe support can help you, if you tell them what happened. Just don’t expect a quick answer, it takes a while at the moment.
And next time, just read the tooltip, okay?
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Can you run the game on that?
Well, there are the guys who managed to run Doom on a printer, sooo… maybe?^^
I didn’t believe this was possible, but this is something I want more than the Darth Vader toaster. And I bet it’d still get voted out of the kitchen as soon as I bought it. Lousy family, don’t want to eat partially burned toast…
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
They said something along the lines of new utility skills while some of the base game skills will be locked as long as you’re specialised.
So I suppose the specialisation-specific weapon skills are designed to work (best) with new utilities.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
“Additional Crafting License: Increase the number of active crafting disciplines all characters on your account can have at one time. "
So I guess it gives every character a third crafting option.
(And I’m still not entirely certain whether OP meant crafting or actual professions/classes…^^)
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Nodes can be anywhere a player can go, including under water. You might just have been unlucky with the map(s) you got. You can, however, travel to Lion’s Arch via asura portal and from there to the starter zones of the other races, to see if you can find more nodes there.
Or, if you have the Heart of the Mists shortcut unlocked already, just use this. I don’t know if you have a char above the required level for that one.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
I’m pretty sure it already is too late, at least for HoT. The plans are made, the work is done, and the beta is about to start. I’m pretty sure there isn’t much that is still in development, at least not at a stage that allows for easy changes.
What it’s not to late for, however, is voicing wishes for the next specialisations. There will be more, and that’ll hopefully mean a new mainhand in some form.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
You can make as many characters as you have slots. Five by default, but you can have up to… 64, I think, characters in total per account.
Each character can have up to two active crafting professions, but can learn them all. It just costs a few silver to switch between them.
Unless you mean class, and then the answer is as above: As many as you have slots. Not sure which one you’re talking about, to be honest ô.O
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Wiki says it’s normal.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Not necessarily. I’ll ask you again, since you haven’t said, is it the Explorer achievement you are after? Because if you have all vistas, POIs etc. and got the title and the star, everything has been counted correctly. The Explorer achievement, however, is tied to some areas that don’t have any of that, meaning they won’t count towards “Been There, Done That”, which is the reason a lot of players don’t even realise these areas exist.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Explorer#Commonly_missed_areas
That’s what I mean. Or am I misreading your posts somehow?
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Nodes are everywhere oO
Unless you haven’t yet left the level 5 areas, where they have been removed because they were deemed “too confusing” for new players. It seems the opposite is true…
Ore nodes are little silver triangles on your minimap, plants little green, well plant-like icons. Since you are asura, go to your starting area (Metrica Province), and start poking around a little ways away from the portal that leads to Rata Sum. You should find plenty of ore once you moved out of the “no nodes to avoid confusion” zone.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Side note: Unlocking HoM isn’t required to link the accounts, but you’ll need it to display stuff like minis and titles so you get the points for your GW2 account.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Mesmer uses swords: “Shield is so out of place!!!111”
Come on, you don’t even know yet how the shield and the specialisations are going to work. Why not save your breath to complain about stuff when you actually know you won’t like it?
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
People are buying the consumable maize balm and using it to turn ambient creatures into candy corn elementals. Those drop Trick-or-Treat bags outside of the halloween event and thus make it possible to loot stuff that isn’t otherwise obtainable in the game anymore.
Problem is that some farmers get mad as hell when random people tag the elementals and get loot without “properly” participating, or kill ambient creatures while playing normaly before they can be turned into elementals, “depriving” the farmers of loot.
So it’s fun and games for everyone. Or something.
Also, OP’s problem is apparently that they are worried the price for Trick-or-Treat bags will stagnate or fall if they are available all year instead of just during halloween season. Not that I care, but if one stockpiled those bags and planned to sell them, this might disrupt their plan a bit.

in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Red Queen.7915
Actually, not really. “It’s the engine” would explain it if his PC were nowhere near as good as it is, but with this one, OP should get more than an average of 35 FPS. That number is perfectly acceptable, even great for events like Tequatl, but just a normal map should have a consistently higher number. I average around 50 with a less powerful setup.
Maybe the fix really is a simple as Vex suggested. Take video card out and put it in again. Computers are idiots, so maybe that helps.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Warrior is support now?
Hm, all those DPS types must not have heard the news, then^^
Seriously though, when it comes to picking a class, don’t go with what other people tell you. GW2 has no trinity, so most classes can fill most roles to a certain degree, and most content is playable by every kind of player or group.
If you want challenging, Mesmer sounds about right for you. Caster class that can be played long-range, mid-range and melee, with power builds, condi builds, phantasms… It’s a pretty fun to play class, if rather squishy until you get your traits. Also useful in jumping puzzles since you can teleport yourself back up if you fall^, but that’s mostly a side effect^^
Elementalist might also be a good choice. Doesn’t have a melee weapon (yet, but that might change with the expansion), but daggers force them into melee range anyway, so you’ll need to know your skills and when to dodge. Staff eles are good for WvW, dagger/dagger is popular in PvP… There isn’t really any content where people would shun an elementalist.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
The response time is a little longer at the moment, after the sales and an influx of new players. GW2 ticket numbers can be posted in a sticky after a week if there was no answer by then, but I’m not sure about GW1 tickets. I heard those can take up to a few weeks.
I’m sure you’ll get an answer eventually, but until then I suppose you’ll just need patience, sorry :/
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Black Lion Trading Post, a.k.a. gem shop.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Get what achievement? Explorer? In that case, there are probably some other areas you missed. They don’t count toward the 100% and the title, but you won’t get the explorer achievements without them. I recommend visiting the wiki, looking at a map of the respective areas and then comparing it to your own ingame. You’ll find out where you haven’t been yet soon enough.
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
Do you have the gold star for map completion? If so, it’s a non-essential POI you are missing, which might be in one of the new maps or the one added with the LS in Brisban Wildlands (bottom left corner).
Kaerleikur @ Elonaspitze
This is a known bug, there are some posts about it already which the search function conveniently won’t let me find *sigh*
It seems to be pretty random, and so far there’s no official info on this (that I know of, anyway).

First person camera view. Hmm…
I hope they add in support for the Bobblehead Laboratories for those of us that own/use them. Make our first person view bobble when we move. Not recommended for those with motion sickness.
Add in some excessive (in-game) alcohol consumption for a more robust experience!
Anyway, I’m looking forward to the camera changes regardless.
And then do Not So Secret
I’ll sing them a song when this update goes live (well, in private, in the shower; nobody wants to hear me sing…). No more awkward jumping puzzles^^

So it’s not just me.
I kept wondering if there were cookie crumbs or something stuck under the key…
Edit to elaborate: It happens in combat when a skill doesn’t cancel properly, but also in PvE, when the options menu just won’t come of, no matter how often I mash the ESC key.

If your character is so old, you should have at least one level 20 scroll, which allows you to “skip” most of the NPE.
After that, you get Tomes of Knowledge and Writs of Experience for logging in and doing dailies, which will also make leveling faster. Then there’s Edge of the Mists for leveling (while also farming mats and karma, so grinding gold for nice armour at 80 isn’t hard, either).
