Does GW2 only use 1 core of a quad core cpu?

in Account & Technical Support

Red Queen.7915

why are they using dx9? Isn’t that one really old? I remember playing vindictus which uses dx11 and there was an option to use multiple cores, would be cool if they used that for this game but I guess it’s too late at this point.

and at the guy who asked if there’s a problem, I don’t really know yet since my computer is at college and I’ve been home for the past week so I only got to play this game on a laptop. I’m just worried about getting bad FPS because once I heard this game is cpu intensive AND about this core stuff I got worried

You’ll just have to wait and see, then. If you find that it doesn’t run too well, just post your specs and GW2 settings on the forum; the kind folks here usually know a trick or two to slightly improve gameplay even on slow PCs.
It totally depends on your individual computer what kind of FPS you can get out of the game. On AMD (two different ones), I used to get 30-40 in open world zones, 20-25 in cities, which isn’t woah amazing, but totally playable. Good enough for me at the time.
Of course, it also depends on how you define “good FPS”. If that’s “anything above 60” then you might be disappointed, but if your goal is “play the game without making it look like a slideshow”, that is entirely within the realm of possibility.

Red Queen.7915

If the game is coded to use X number of cores/threads, there’s nothing you can do to make it use more cores/threads, short of writing new code.

What you can do is overclock, or unpark cores, which some people have had success with (but in most cases, it’s useless).

But is there even a problem? GW2 doesn’t run too great on a lot of AMD CPUs, but if your CPU is good enough, you should get decent performance anyway.

AFKers The Plague

Depends on what they mean by “rewarding”. If that comes from a ranger parked there who lets their pet tag events while the player is watching a film in the other room, I think I remember reading that this is not allowed (or at the very least frowned upon).

If it’s people standing there doing nothing, I wonder what they think their “reward” is…

Bottom line: leeching by letting the AI do your work for you is a no-no, and real afkers are kicked from the map after a certain amount of time anyway, what else is there to do?

@Windu: Wait, people do that? oO
Man, I keep forgetting how creative lazy people can be…

Guild Hall Requirements

Red Queen.7915

I’m guessing they’ll have a cost made up a of combination of merits, influence and gold. Makes sense for something that’s solely guild-related. There isn’t really any way to “stockpile” merits and influence, and gold is abundant in the game, anyway. Might be that, if the gold cost is high, smaller guilds will struggle a bit, but I’m pretty sure that’s been discussed way back when they decided to bring back guild halls, and there’s a way for guilds of any size to create a guild hall.

So... where are the dungeons?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Red Queen.7915

Red Queen.7915

I’ll laugh so hard if they put in new dungeons that are impossible to complete as a full zerker group and actually require you to move around and bring different builds and skill sets to even stand a chance.

…then I’ll rejoice and probably play more dungeons than ever.

Ye….

I don’t think you understand the difference between a build and a gear. Since when using zerker gear stops you from running full support or full control spec?

Really now. Don’t I?

Gear, skills and traits need to go together, if you will, in order to create a “good” build (definition of good varies wildly, though). A zerker warrior who has only zerker gear but puts most traits in toughness and healing power lines isn’t actually running what’s widely considered a “true” zerker build. Likewise, if I trait for healing and boons as a guardian, but use assassin’s gear, I’m not an ideal support guardian, either.
“Build” is not just your traits, it’s the combination of gear, traits, skills and weapons. These things need to complement each other in order for anything to actually work well. You can ignore your gear and only ever change your traits, but it won’t enable you to fill your new role as effectively as someone who matched their gear to their traits.

Which is why I’d love to have new dungeons where you can’t just swap out a trait or two in full zerker gear and still breeze through. There should be need* for actual build diversity, not just trait diversity. If it’s just the same old “bring zerker for max effect”, they can keep those.

*As in “build diversity is needed to get through relatively easy”, not “must bring one of each class to get through at all”. Since many classes can fill many roles, it would not require the good old trinity, but it would make neglected builds more viable. Pretty much the opposite of the current meta.

Thnig is, I’d like to see a new dungeon or two as well. It’s just that, if it gets down to picking one or the other, I’d prefer the open world content.

I don’t want any dungeon to be made instead of whatever you find funny in this game.
We are being disregarded for a long time now and nothing says it’s going to change.

I am a customer to arena net and noone to you. So Im voicing my concerns on official forums.

The difference between you and me is I want new dungeons and I don’t want to take sth from you. You want me not have those new dungeons… why exactly? because you dont like them? I dont really get this logic.

The logic is that, if one thing is the main focus, other things will “suffer” for it. I don’t want you to not have new dungeons, I don’t want a bunch of new dungeons getting preference over open world content.
By your logic, you don’t want me to not have that open world content.

By actual logic, nobody should want anyone to not have something, but rather voice an opinion on what they want to be given preference when there are limited resources to create content.

Numbers?

I find dungeon party faster than pvp match. Wonder why.
Dungeon community is making their own tournaments, streams, ladders etc. If I rememeber correctly the first speedrun dungeon tournament got some attention from anet. So plz stop spreading disinformation or saying that us (dungeoneers) are not important. We are customers with wallets, just like you mr krall.

The point is, nothing being said in the topic is to you. You are noone. We (dungeoneers) want anet to hear we want new dungeons and new challenges. If everyone was like you, devaluating other ppl matters only because you dont participate or like their point of view, we wouldnt have Guild Halls, world boss revamps, new maps or expansion at all, only gemstore content.

So yes, this is why this forum exists, for me to voice my needs and opinions. Until you’re a red post, you’re noone to other players.

So what makes you think you are anyone to anyone?

If this forum is to you what you claim it is, you’ll realise that yes, we also have a right to voice our opinion on this subject.

GW2 offers a lot of open world content, events that can be done by anyone and don’t require a group entering an instance together (a.k.a. dungeons and raids). It does have other options, but the dynamic events do set it apart. Switching focus from open world content to hardcore dungeon raids is something many people don’t want to see. Why do you keep insisting that those opinions don’t count?

(And if you repeat your tired phrase about “devaluing other players”, let me tell you in advance that “do as I say, not as I do” isn’t any better.)

If you want to do raids “professionally”, may I suggest finding another game to play? Because you won’t find that in GW2.

It’s funny how people keep asking for GW2 to be changed into a different game. Nobody is “limiting your choice” to leave GW2 and go look elsewhere for a game that suits your needs better. Because what you find “encouraging” is something many people call tedious and boring, or a grind. I was not looking for these things when I bought GW2. If you were, you probably did not read the description.

Might be that there are new dungeons (would be cool), but we’ll just have to wait and see.

So tired of being outbid by 1 copper

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Queen.7915

Red Queen.7915

Short answer: Nope. Please do not make people outbid you with even more gold.

Humans are stupid. There will always be people who have this grabby reflex when they want something that makes them do anything to get the desired object a little faster. Likewise, they will do the not-smart thing (a.k.a. undercutting) to sell the stuff they don’t want.

There are already cases when I see the first offer for a weapon is, say 30g, but the one before is only 25g. Somebody already thought it was a good idea to up the price by 5g instead of a single copper. Good for a seller, not so good for everyone else. If you raised the cap for the amount of gold you need to add to the highest offer, that wouldn’t stop this behaviour, only make it more costly for everybody. Same thing for sell prices. People already put their iron on the tp for 1s20c when the lowest sell price before was 1s50c. Greed paired with the apparent inability to think for a second before acting will make sure this will always happen, whether or not there are “rules” for this behaviour.

This might help you get started.
Crafting isn’t all that complicated in GW2. You talk to a master crafter and start tinkering. You learn recipes by dicovering them (shown in “Training and Getting Started”) or buying them from the master crafter for karma.

Once you know what you’re doing, here are guides to help you level any discipline either fast or for the least amount of gold: http://www.gw2crafts.net/

The necessary materials can be bought in the trading post or farmed in the world by harvesting nodes. For your chosen disciplines, farming rich ore nodes might be a good idea – copper, iron, platinum and mithril are the ones you need that can be farmed this way. Maps can be found here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1xffs0/permanent_rich_ore_locations_30_final_version/

For your armoursmith, you’ll also need cloth scraps like jute and wool, which you currently only get by salvaging or from loot bags (later on, you’ll be able to unlock karma merchants for conversion, but that’s not relevant for your current level).

Healing Power

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Red Queen.7915

Red Queen.7915

I said trinity-like, not trinity. Fiddling with skills and stats so that support builds become something of a necessity would go against the “no special build needed to play this content” premise of the game.

The current issues are more related to the fact that healing doesn’t scale very well. If 400 healing power more or less don’t make a difference when they should, that’s more of a problem than having a good healing skill for everyone. That skill is necessary, especially on lower levels, making it any less useful would make some content very hard to play without other players (not that I mind playing with random strangers on the internet, wrong as that sounds…^^).

I think nerfing the #6 healing skill is the wrong way to go – fixing healing power would make much more of a difference, especially for the group content like Tequatl, where a few cleric elementalists then could possibly keep the melee zerg alive even with poison and half the turrets unmanned, for example. Large group content should benefit from support builds, but making a support role necessary for small group/“solo” content is… meh. Not exactly what I’d wish for in this game.

Well, that’s kind of the point, though? You can heal yourself, so you don’t need a dedicated healer. Support here is more along the lines of buffs, anyway, and there are several options out there.

The “strength” of those boons can already be influenced, too – by stacking, mostly, which can influence intensity or duration, and I think that’s plenty. Besides, changes are coming already.

There’s a reason I (and many others) like GW2 so much: No trinity. Don’t want one, don’t need one. Any step toward a trinity-like scenario would be a step into the wrong direction for me.

Since this is the first expansion for GW2, there is no “typical” expansion we can use for reference. Your definition of typical is based entirely on other games which have very little, if anything, to do with GW2.
Besides, given that there are only eight dungeons in GW2 so far, I doubt we’ll get “8-10” new ones, if any dungeons at all. And they are surely not all that keeps people playing after hitting level 80. You? Might be, but that’s your thing. Just as many people still like WvW, PvP, or simply replaying PvE content, and we’ll get that with HoT for sure.

I suspect we’ll get a lot more info when the beta starts, since there won’t be an NDA and they have stated we can blog about it, stream it, make videos… if we get a beta invite. The challenging group content could be along the lines of Tequatl and Wurm, or new guild content, maybe level 80 guild missions and puzzles.

Unless your friend actually created a new account? What exactly did he do, log into an existing account, or used the key to create a new one? That could still mean the key was stolen if the seller seemed a bit shady, but at least your friend didn’t breach the ToS by buying an actual account…

Enable Down Leveled Loot in Options

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Queen.7915

Red Queen.7915

I disagree. The current system gives new players the opportunity to make some gold early in the game by selling those mats. Now I’ve been playing since release, but when I imagine joining now and having no real way to make some gold until I reach level 80 because everything I can do, a level 80 can do better and with more efficiency… Nah, I don’t like that thought.

As for the “can’t level crafting if you sell” aspect… You can choose to level crafting, or choose to sell, or choose to sell half and level crafting with the rest. Maybe you only want armoursmith and chef, so you don’t need as much cloth and leather anyway, and ore can be farmed regardless of level. Maybe you want to wait until you’re 80 anyway, to see which crafting discipline you even need. Nobody forces you to sell your loot, but it’s good to have the option.

Besides, it’s yet another aspect that makes leveling an alt (leveling, not having, mind you) more fun and rewarding. And if you really, really hate alts, you can always convert karma into scraps, if need be.

I wouldn’t worry too much. I sent my brother some gold to get started (probably around 50… 60 gold in total?), and nothing happened. Other people give away legendaries or precursors and don’t get banned.

I’d say for someone suspecting you of buying gold, you’d need to get a large amount from an account that’s clearly not a real player, and that account would have to give away massive amounts to all kinds of people on different servers, without any kind of visible connection like guild or friendslist or same IP address.

Story mode disconnections -- very frustrating

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Red Queen.7915

Red Queen.7915

(You mean personal story, right? Story mode refers to dungeons, but you said you’re new, so I assume it’s the former?)

That’s because the story instance is created for you, specifically, and if you dc, the game thinks the instance isn’t needed anymore.
I don’t think it should be saved indefinitely, but for a minute or two would be nice, just to give you a chance to get back into the game after a crash or dc.

Besides, the problem isn’t so much that the instance closes when you dc, it’s the fact that there are some problems lately with lags and dcs, which in most cases are not server side. If I have to replay an instance once or twice because well, crap happens, I can deal with it, but if it happens a lot because the internet as a whole has a giant hiccup, I understand it can be very frustrating. Though this is hardly Anet’s fault.

Edit: Okay, now I’m confused. What do you mean when you say “quest”, that you play for 45 minutes? Heart quests? But the progress there always gets saved, you don’t have to do it all over again when you dc or log off. Dynamic events? There aren’t many (I think it’s about two – Tequatl and Wurm) that require you to stick around for 45 minutes and deny you a reward when you dc. What are these “quests” as opposed to the “story modes” you’re referring to?

Never mind, I read your posts again. Though it sounds a little confusing the way you put it.

There is still GW1 support via this website. No bugs and stuff anymore, but account access and exploits are still covered.

I love it how “white knighting” has been turned into confetti – thrown around everywhere for no other reason than “because I can”…

I don’t know what moral high ground you’re talking about, but I’m going by the terms of use I agreed to when I bought this game, but whatever, I suppose it’s the cool thing to do these days to neither read the rules nor play by them.

My guess is staff don’t comment explicitly on 3rd party software because stuff that doesn’t interfere with game mechanics is considered okay, but things get iffy when it comes to software that allows one player to see something other playsers can’t see without also using 3rd party software. Does it matter in PvE? Not really. Does it make a difference in PvP? It might, so software that gives the user an advantage should not be used. If there are just the umbrella terms they use now, it’s hard to complain about individual cases when they do get banned by arguing “but that player uses [software X], and he didn’t get banned!”, and it means Anet don’t have to check and approve (or ban) every single possible 3rd party app out there.

And for the record, it’s you who assumes that OP and his friends wanted to “actively ruin” somebody else’s experience. I’m sorry I still believe in human decency -.-

An while we looking for party we said Berseker gears. for exmaplar my warrior at arah i have nearly 21k hp but other guys he had 24k hp

This is where he got caught in a lie. They werent Berserker’s.

Also, rest assured OP, that program merely allows you to see other’s Health Points. That’s the only thing he can see from you. If you think that’s ban worthy, then well, I laugh.

Well, whether or not they advertised as full zerker and then didn’t run full zerker themselves is irrelevant. It’s still about 3rd party software that’s used to see things other players can not see without it, and either way, it’s against ToS. You can laugh all you want, but if you agree to the terms that come with a deal and then not abide by those rules you agreed to, you’re in the wrong.

It sounds like the guy was invited last into the group and complained about the rest not running zerker, which he likely knew because of his 3rd party software – the software being the problem.
Where did you get “caught in a lie” from this? oO

What’s so bad about something more challenging? Doesn’t mean PUGs can’t do it, or that elitists will take over the game. The new zones will be level 80, after all, so why would anyone expect them to be a walk in the park in the first place?

So, people want endgame content, but when endgame content is what they get, it’s suddenly “too hard”. It’s impossible to please everyone, someone will always rage about it and possibly quit, and it’s just as likely people will do that when there’s nothing more to do but autoattack mobs in a new, pretty zone as when the new zones and content are harder to master than vanilla zones and content.

I, for one, prefer the latter option. If I want to play with my eyes closed, I can stick to the starter zones, or go play another game altogether. GW2 is very casual friendly as it is, but making everything easy enough to master without any practice or challenge whatsoever will alienate lots of players, too. This game is rather good at keeping a balance between what its offering to casuals and to more invested gamers.

Camera Fixes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It was mentioned as an option to control how much stuff you have to run into before the camera snaps so close (or something to that effect). This was the news article: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/get-readycamera-changes-are-coming/
I suspect the issue in the video is related to the character jumping against the cart, so it should be taken care of in the patch.

Fractals are not "random"

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Red Queen.7915

Only the fractals are all on the same tree…

We do understand, but until you can get proof, most here will doubt there is any sort of pattern because we all experienced runs like these, and know its RNG being an idiot.

In science, you have to prove your hypothesis before it is accepted as truth. You are welcome to do so. I can’t, since my fractal level is a measly 21 (see, kids, that’s what you get when you run 19 over and over again…) and I don’t PUG them either, but maybe someone else gets curious and goes to see for themselves. Until then, I will stand by it that this is just RNG being weird.

Are you clicking on GW2.exe or GW2setup.exe? The latter will prompt you to install the game because that’s what its for, and I guess you downloaded it to your desktop and just forgot it was there.

Isn’t GW2 in your start menu? If not, run a search for “GW2.exe”, it should be there somewhere if you could play the game. It doesn’t just randomly uninstall itself.

I don’t understand… you’re saying that you’d rather mobs can be killed by autoattacking (which is already very much possible) because having to use your entire set of skills is boring? But… that’s the opposite of boring?
And I don’t think the challenge aspect refers to normal, non-special mobs, just to the extra-freaky new stuff. And even if it were, I wouldn’t mind that much, it would make the zones very different from what we know from basegame.

Besides, cooldowns aren’t that long, unless you mean elite, and that’s just whining.

Asura Shoes

Not a solution, but dry bones footwear looks like footwraps from anything but super close perspectives, and exalted shoes look kind of decent, too. For medium, there’s Seeker boots and aetherblade (magitech? …something from the shop), and for heavy it’s the CoE dungeon armour that looks fairly cool. Actually, I think most dungeon armour looks lots better than “normal” armour, clipping-wise.

Seriously, profanity filter? Ringmaster kitten?

Anyways, yeah, that’s a skin you can put on any helmet you like, for one transmutation charge each time you put it on a different base item. You can wear anything in combat now but tonics, and any skin bought from the gem store can go on armour. Outfits are a bit different, but more practical for leveling, since you buy it once and then can use it just whenever, while normal skins require transmutation charges each time you replace a piece of your armour, and those don’t come in bulk for the lower levels anymore.

Realm choices

in Players Helping Players

Red Queen.7915

Nope, only one your home server. You can, however, guest on other servers, though with the megaserver, that’s not necessary anymore.

Your server choice only matters in WvW (large-scale player versus player fights between entire servers). If you don’t care about that and have friends on a different realm, you can still play with them by grouping and then joining the map where they are.

You can try to camp the server you want and hope a spot opens up that you can snatch, or pick another server.

What hat did you buy? A skin? If so, that’s not an actual item, but you rather apply its design to any actual helmet you wear via the wardrobe (once for free after purchase).
