I want a medium armor shirt with a big collar open at the top three or four buttons with chest hair and a peace sign medallion.

So you want to be Fabio?

I fully support this suggestion. Every game needs a Fabio. For reasons.

Charr and Asura female precursor armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Queen.7915

Yes, please; change it to the male version for asura and charr.
(Not even going to suggest to do the same for humanoids, but that would be so great…)

As it is, I have zero motivation to get the armour at all. If the experimental set is hinting at the general shape and design for the finished armour, I have no desire to work my butt off and spend atrocious amounts of gold for a metal bra that’ll puncture your liver when you bend over and a bizarre skirt that completely throws of a character’s silhouette if combined with the aforementioned bra :/ If it looks like something that’s somewhat reasonable to wear on non-humanoid races, there’s at least a decent chance I can use the set.

(For the record, the heavy set is fine…ish. It doesn’t look great, but it’s a precursor to a precursor so that’s to be expected, but at least it looks a) like armour and b) the same on both genders. What little interest I could muster for maybe getting the set…one day… eventually… if I feel like it and have gold to burn… came from that set. But I main light classes on both accounts, so… yeah.)

This. If you don’t mind a bit of mindless zerging, this will get you a nice amount of gold via the map bonus rewards. Even if you just do that for ten or twenty minutes a day, it’ll be fairly lucrative.

Yep, even my tiny Asura transmorgifies into a giant, murder-minded, and most likely un-showered Charr in that fractal.

I mean, can you imagine what a charr shower would look like? Cleaning that fur out of the drain must be a nightmare. And then you turn too fast just that one time and stick your horn through the glass door, and then what?
Cat baths do seem like the more sensible option here.

Yep, everyone in the Urban Battlegrounds fractal becomes a Flame Legion charr. All dudes, because the Flame Legion were (and still are) the ridiculously sexist frat boys of the charr.
They did like their skimpy loincloths, though.

Side note: Look up the lore on the Flame Legion and their defeat by Kalla Scorchrazor, it’s a pretty good story. There’s a statue of Kalla in the Black Citadel, too.

I took the “being a mesmer makes it easier” thing to mean that she’s using a permanent illusion. I don’t think there are shapeshifting mesmers. Norn, possibly, but then you’d be stuck being a bear, so… probably not that useful in this scenario.

I’ve been wondering about the (techno-)magical transition, too. I have a headcanon that the asura have developed a process for that long ago. They just seem the type to go “this isn’t the right body – let’s get that fixed asap”. I don’t think there’s a word of god on that, but as long as someone says “nope, doesn’t work that way”, I choose to believe that this is a thing.

Event credit for doing nothing?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Red Queen.7915

I’ve noticed this several times over the last few days: I’ll run through an area with an active event, but don’t participate, only to suddenly have the event credit message pop up, giving me copious amounts of gold some pocket change in copper and XP I didn’t earn. At first I thought that maybe I accidentally tagged an event mob, or had an active elemental do it for me, though I usually don’t have those, and don’t randomly tag mobs when I’m just on my way from A to B.

This time, I was idling in front of the entrance to Barradin’s Vaults in Plains of Ashford, waiting for the ghost events to start. I had no elementals active, and I was standing well outside all orange circles on the minimap. Yet, I randomly got credit for the “Find the missing scout…” event. And I’m 100% sure I didn’t accidentally participate; I have the game open on a second monitor so I can keep an eye on the event messages while working, and there was just no way I could have tagged this event (being busy with the aforementioned work).

I haven’t noticed a pattern, it happens all over the place, HoT maps and core maps, all sorts of events (combat and non-combat).

So, tl;dr: You sometimes get event credit when you just run through the general area, and that could be exploited if someone sees a pattern here.

Edit for clarification, before anyone asks: No, I didn’t buff or heal anyone, either.

And yes, it would hurt. I’d be sitting there for two minutes doing nothing. If I want that, I can go stare at the wall for five minutes and contemplate the futility of human ambition on a cosmic scale while I’m at it, instead of quietly seething because the game forces me to sit around twiddling my thumbs. I’ve had enough of that in WoW, thank you very much.

Besides, you can just walk everywhere and pretend waypoints don’t exist. Your choice. But take the waypoints away from everyone, and you’ll have a riot on your hands.

Base game Toggle Glider Option please?

+1

I’d suggest an option similar to the double-tap-to-dodge toggle. I turned that off after a few jumping puzzles and haven’t touched it in two years. As far as I know, the glider opens when you press space for too long. For… safety reasons, I guess? To keep people who can’t be bothered to press space a second time while falling from plummeting to their deaths? Who knows.
If it’s not possible to turn off gliding entirely, a toggle for that like the one for double tap dodging would solve a lot of problems (and reduce the amount of swearing during jumping sections by an estimated 37%).

I don’t think you can turn off attack sounds explicitly (and definitely not individually), but you can turn off the effects volume option. Maybe it’s because your thread hit a nerve.

Maybe you’re only joking but the underlying thought behind what you’re saying is sexist and is something men have said, and still say to this day, to exclude women from jobs. Too many women, let’s hire some men. Disk jockeys on radio station have reported that if they play more than a few female singers in a time period, there have been men that call and demand more male singers.

If you don’t believe it’s sexist, try this thought experiment. Let’s say this group of NPCs are a mix of black and white and someone jokingly makes a post on the forum saying, there are too many blacks in this group. Can’t we switch one of them to white?

So, you’re undoubtably joking but too many women is something I’ve heard too many times in real life to find particularly amusing.

Wow, that’s pretty intense.

It might sound “intense” to you, but that makes it no less true. I can’t count the number of times anymore where I have played a game (or read a book, or watched a film) with a party that was five-ish dudes and a token woman, usually the mage/healer/ranger (or equivalent), and I internally squeal every time there’s more than one female character present.
And personally, I find it pretty funny how games can be total sausage fests and no-one bats an eye, but as soon as the numbers are reversed, it suddenly becomes a big deal to some… frankly, to me as well, but mainly because it makes me happy to see it done for a change.
And usually, it becomes a (negative) big deal to the same crowd who tend to very vocally shout down anyone tentatively asking if, maybe, we could have a few more women in video games, seeing as we play them too and all? The mental gymnastics done by some people will never cease to amaze me.

Red Queen.7915

Legendaries were always craftable via the forge with some stages using actual crafting,

okay, cool. So what stages?

The legendary weapons would be “crafted” in the sense that you would need a precursor and three gifts – those are the parts that would actually be crafted by weaponsmiths, artificers etc. The precursors were the one part that couldn’t be crafted.
Since precursors have notoriously lousy drop rates, and getting them from the mystic forge is a gamble that pays off for very few people, HoT introduced a way to get a precursor through crafting, just like the other three parts of the final weapon.

http://gw2legendary.com/ This website breaks it down pretty well. You’ll notice that the four subsections of each legendary break down into additonal parts, detailing the crafting process – all except the precursor.
That came with HoT, though the term “precursor crafting” is kind of misleading, it’s a combination of crafted parts and a scavenger hunt.

Why Anet? Why would you make such a gold sink for an armor set that looks EXACTLY the same as the old ascended gear. What a pathetic design. There is absolutely no point in crafting the new gear. Unfortunately, I learned this too late.

Well, if you, for example, have a zerker ele, you’d probably want to craft a brand new condi armor for your necro instead of simply converting your ele armor (unless you want to delete the character). Also, I have both ascended celestial set and zerker set on my ele, because crafting celestial armor is timegated so I don’t want to just convert it to zerker stats.

So yeah, there is a point in crafting new gear

No, what you do is craft a new set of ascended armor, soldier or some cheap stuff and then you convert that to the new stat you want. Way cheaper than actually crafting the new stat armor

I’m too lazy and horrible with numbers to do the math here, but does that actually work?

Depends, the new items that need jewelled patches with the fulgurite quantities make it very worth while just converting. Otherwise can’t see much point.

I was thinking about crafting Viper’s for my necro, so good to know that this might be worth looking into. Thanks for the info.

Well, the “silly guild halls” are now the only way to get access to guild buffs (though that system is messed up in a number of ways, imo), so yeah, that’s something “taken away” (depending on the individual; my bank guild never had buffs running, so the people who are exclusively in that guild never had anything “taken away”).

As for the precursor crafting, that’s HoT exclusive, but only the crafting process itself. Old precursors can still be looted, forged, and bought and sold. The ones that can’t be are the new ones (for H.O.P.E., Astralaria and Nevermore), which are, as precursors and finished legendary weapons, account bound and thus require HoT to be obtained. Like all new skins do.
The precursor crafting was also not “taken away” from anyone since it didn’t exist beforehand. It was added with HoT, as a HoT feature.

No, the guild halls are intended for everyone (you can gather whatever you need, no gold necessary save for some reagents, I think). What they are NOT intended for is breezing through the upgrades in a few weeks. There was a post about it mentioning a six-month time frame for average guilds. So adjust for guild size, but it is doable.

Those costs seem steep for smaller guilds, but they are there (along with the atherium time gate) to keep huge guilds from building guild halls in days.

Wait how are guild halls intended for everyone? My guild can’t capture the location given we have 3 people. If by intended for everyone, you mean… so long as you add a bunch of people not in your guild to help you do it, then maybe I’d agree. But otherwise I’d say it was not in fact accessible for all guilds as they stand.

Anything below 5 people is a group, to me. A guild, too, sure, but mostly a group in terms of mechanics.
That said, for a group, it’s probably hard to get a hall, but as far as I know, three players is the bare minimum, and should, in theory, also be possible.
Though exactly how many active guilds with so few people there are, I’m not sure.

Still, yes, temporarily inviting a handful of people to get the hall is a viable option. I know a few people who are doing exactly that, no big deal. I’ve seen a thread or two floating around here asking for help and offering to help with another guild’s hall in exchange. It’s no different from doing guild bounties with one or two people and asking in mapchat for help. It’s easier with more people, but can be done with few.

Side note: Content like Tequatl and the Karka Queen can also be started by all guilds, regardless of size, but not done by any guild, however small. They are all accessible, but some may only be doable with assistance.

Everyone who logged in at least once for each chapter when they first launched had it unlocked for free. You weren’t there, that sucks, but raging here that you have to pay for additional content is… weird? Buying the core game once does not entitle you to everything for free forever. And you do not need S2 to progress at all.

…I see you had no trouble paying for the expansion. Why is it so absurd to pay for something that can be seen as DLC as well?
Right now, there are tons of temporarily-free ebooks on Amazon, which will cost money again soon. I could trawl Amazon to find them all and get them for free, but if I don’t, I can’t rage about how I should get them for free because they once were free but aren’t now. This applies to LS. If you were there, good for you, you could grab it for free. If you took a long break and weren’t, you’ll need to buy it with gems (and be glad that’s an option, you don’t even have to pay with cash if you don’t want to). How is that such a horrible idea?

Just keep that in mind for a potential Season 3, if you do keep playing.

For a smaller guild, yes this is harder. It is what it is. Larger guilds can get a lot more input from members to unlock things easier. That’s the incentive to grow your guild.

If people want to only play with their circle of IRL friends and their spouses, then there is a trade-off.

If they want the most out of the guild experience in Guild Wars 2, they need to not treat their guild like a glorified chatroom.

So… 500 people is the default for guilds, then? Riiight.
Why should there be a trade-off for small guilds, but not for large ones? This reasoning requires a certain default setup for a guild as intended by the game. As it is, there is none, so no-one can claim that THIS setup is good, but THAT setup should be punished for not complying to the norm.
Besides, you completely ignore that different people want different things from a guild, and “getting the most out of the guild experience” is not the same for everyone. For me and many others, being in a 500-man-guild is not a guild experience at all, it’s sitting in a room full of virtual strangers and occasionally running a dungeon with them. That’s a slightly better PUG experience at best. YMMV, but don’t assume your POV is the only right one. Small guilds have the right to voice their concerns and ask for tweaks or at least a proper explanation for the steep costs that they face.
Which reminds me… I have some more kegs to make…

Just hit 80 help!

in Players Helping Players

Red Queen.7915

For some more gold, there are world bosses for guaranteed yellows once per boss per day. The Silverwastes can get you a full set of level 80 yellow gear to start with (the Carapace set, looks cool, too). Dungeons give you tokens for which to buy armour and weapons, but you’ll need a lot for a full set (neat skins to be found there as well). Karma armour is one way, but keep in mind that karma gear, like gear purchased with WvW tokens, can’t be salvaged and any runes and sigils (potentiall very expensive ones) will be stuck in there forever.

With only 11g, you probably won’t get a full set of exotic gear plus weapons, runes and sigils, or if do, you won’t have a copper left afterwards. I suggest you get some yellow gear first to use while you make your way toward a set of exotic armour. Save for high-level Fractals, you can do everything in yellows. Then you can try out the different ways to get gear and gold for yourself.
Or instead of level 80 yellows, look on the trading post for level 78 exotics. Marginally more expensive (mostly, anyway; if there’s a Sigil of Bloodlust or Rune of the Traveller in there, not so much), but better than the level 80 rares.
Lastly (or rather, before buying anything), go for map completion in Cursed Shore, Malchor’s Leap, Straits of Devastation and Frostgorge sound. It doesn’t take too long, and you get high-level exotics for 100% completion on those maps, plus crafting materials than can sell for quite a bit on the trading post. Also a chance for Black Lion Keys and thus a chance at tickets, for which you can buy skins, which usually sell for 100g apiece on the TP. That chance is tiny, but it’s there.

Base the costs on the capacity of the guild. Start guilds at 10 people with upgrades for 50, 100, 250 and 500. If you upgrade your capacity, you lose access to whatever, but are discounted what you’ve already paid. Basing the costs on zerg guilds is silly. It’s the zerg guilds that should be heavily punished.

Ermm…..

So the large guilds are supposed to be punished or heavily taxed for the works and dramas they had to go through to become large. I see, sounds fair.

On a side note, which part of it is fair if a guild that paid lesser can get to access the same amount of things as a guild which paid more? In reality, a lot of things can be fair while a lot of things can also be unfair. However, a rule remain, a small factory can only produce a limited number of things while a large factory can produce a larger number of things. If scaling had to be done, it has to be done with this rule in mind.

1) Large guilds are currently being rewarded for being large in that they can split a cost of, say, 3000g for several upgrades among, ideally, 500 people. 6g each. A guild with 25 members will have to pay 120g/member. How is that “punishing” a large guild? And any large guild wanted to be large, so it was totally their choice to go through “all the works and dramas” (?!) of becoming huge. Prior to the introduction/announcement of guild halls, I might add.

2) The bigger factory will still only produce greater numbers of the same thing, not equal numbers of several more things. Same goes for guild halls. The bigger guild hall will have the same services, but it will be able to grant them to more people.
Real life is unfair, sure, but are you trying to tell me that this absolutely must apply to things we do for fun as well? Because I call BS on that one.

Punished probably wasn’t the right word to use up there. But ideally, costs would scale. If I want to stay at a hotel with 100 people, I’ll have to get 100 rooms. If I want to stay in the same hotel with 10 people, I shouldn’t have to get 100 rooms as well.

As it is, scaling might have been considered, but not implemented for various reasons. And putting it in now would probably provoke the wrath of all nine hells – a.k.a. guilds who already have invested a lot of mats into their guild halls. It’d be… interesting to see how that would be handled.
And by interesting I mean a bloody circus of screeching and complaining, no matter how fairly it’d be handled.

So for now, we’ll just have to fall out of Jaka Itzel every single day and brave the vampires to get some extra flax seeds…

If they scale the costs, big guilds can cheat by giving all the stuff to a few members, leaving the guild, having those who are left upgrade the hall and then get invited back in.

This way, it takes longer if you’re few people (and don’t think my guild is huge, either, we aren’t a lot of people), but you can’t cheat your way to a grand guild hall.

My second account doesn’t have HoT, I got a message, mastery points and whatnot.

Maybe I need to check, but I could’ve sworn core masteries are available to everyone…

If you pretty much “did it all” before you left, the only new thing, content-wise, in vanilla is Fractals level 100. Some masteries are unlocked for everyone, like precursor crafting and the Pact Commander, and depending on when you stopped playing, there are two new maps, Silverwastes and Dry Top. Also, Living Story part 2, which leads up to the Heart of Thorns story.

The rift-in-mid-air is a known bug. Dying by jumping off the platform seems to help most of the time.

I tried to do this for over two hours, and got bug-free instances twice. Fun times ._.

Guild Wars gives you a little reminder of how long you’ve been playing, every hour. Maybe that’s something GW2 could implement in future.

Aww, I miss those

Yeees, bring them back Preferably with some hilarious reminders the longer you play^^

I don’t really understand how it’s taking that long. But if you’re really having that much trouble, have you considered Lkitten outside the instance entrance for a second(third, fourth, or fifth) player?

They want to solo it, as the epic boss fight it’s supposed to be.

What makes it take so long is a metric kitten -ton of bugs that can break the fight even when the boss is almost in the last phase, making a restart necessary.

“Lkitten”? Really? The filter censors censored “swear words”? That aren’t even swear words?^^

Have you done it four times on the same day? Because you can only get three fragments each day. The mouseover text for the buff says that, too.

I don’t know, I’m waiting for the HoT-specific ones, but those won’t come until we get the raids.
There are a few threads about precursor collections around, maybe someone in there knows the details. You could always wiki your precursor and see what it takes, whether you need to collect a lot of stuff or have most of it lying around.
And at least one of the collections is bugged (Twilight, I think) and can’t progress past tier 1 at the moment. The wiki probably has specifics on that.

Glider Skins

Red Queen.7915

I think the wings that are not yet glider skins are too small to act as a glider.
On the other hand I’d really like to see the molten jetpack, riding broom and magic carpet being turned into glider skins. But they’d need a different gliding animation than hanging below them and I don’t know wether they can easily make glider skins with a different gliding animation.

Why would you need a different animation? How else would I fly on a broomstick or a carpet than sitting on it? oO
Oh, wait, do you mean I am hanging below the broomstick? That wouldn’t even be necessary, the proper flying animation is already there. You’ll just be flying higher than before.
That stuff aside, broomstick and carpet wouldn’t make sense; they fly, and that doesn’t work logically with the gliding mechanics, until you get to the last mastery level.

The other dragon wings, though, those would be cool.

Laurels, if you don’t want to spend them on anything in particular, or the new map rewards. Mouse over the zone names and you’ll see what you get for doing events in that map.

For gold, that depends of what you want to do. Silverwastes, the Halloween labyrinth right now, farming wood and metal (via rich ore nodes). Those are the ones that I can stand in the way of farming things. Other than that, Auric Basin in HoT has a moderate amount of T6 wood and orichalcum ore, but if you just returned, I suppose you don’t have HoT (yet).
And I think there are still champ trains in Cursed Shore and Frostgorge Sound going, but you’ll need LFG to find them.

Oh, and if you are patient and haven’t account/soulbound your precursor yet, you should have the option to train precursor collections to get one for free (accountbound, but you don’t need gold). You could do the corresponding collection and sell the other precursor to buy the T6 mats off the TP.

This has been asked, and so far, no housing has been promised. Frankly, I’d rather they never put it in and give us more stuff to actually play… When I want to decorate a house, I play The Sims.

For the Canach fight, ditch the shield and just whack him with a weapon until he dies. I ping-ponged grenades with him for five minutes, got bored, and mowed him down with meteor shower and ice-bow. The shield does NOTHING to make that fight any easier.
On the upside, my third attempt at soloing Eir bugged, too (after dying at my first attempt and having her insta-revive Garm at my second attempt), and she just stood there doing nothing while I whittled away at her health bar. I think I accidentally downed Garm behind two vines at the edge of the “arena” while I mistformed away from him and she couldn’t reach him. Eh, I’ll take it as compensation for the awful, awful Mordremoth fight.

For said final fight, you shouldn’t be immobilised in the gliding phase. You die quickly when you stay on the ground, but you should be able to move. Dodging toward the updrafts helped me.
All in all, I tried for over two hours, got TWO bug-free fights, one pretty early on, but I didn’t realise those weird-looking things were updrafts (I kept looking for them beside the platform, which of course reset the whole thing -.-), and when I finally got the second bug-free attempt, I finished the chapter.

The bugs make this fight WAY harder than the actual enemies >.> That fight is a broken mess, and I’ll wait with my other characters until those bugs are fixed. My blood pressure was through the roof last night…

(I would suggest just hiding near your NPC buddys.)

That didn’t work for me. It’s either bugged (one way or the other), or you’re always supposed to glide around until the phase is over.

Try LFG. There are still plenty of maps actually doing VW. Pick one with high or low percentage (for either quick VW or lots of mastery XP), join, taxi, problem solved.

I’m still doing VW, and I haven’t had trouble finding event maps so far.

Taking your time with something, be at fine meal, a fine scotch or even a game shows a level of respect for that thing. Rushing it is the opposite. When someone disrespects something you care about it’s frustrating.

I take nothing back, their behavior is analogous to a child scarfing down a meal.

I am sitting here laughing, because… what? XD

To give you a similarly mature response… you’re neither my mum nor my boss, so you don’t get to tell me how to play

Disrespect… seriously, what even… I don’t think “respect” works the way you think it does. I can eat a five-star steak in the same amount of time I need to eat a home-made pizza – which says absolutely nothing about how much I respect either meal and the people who made it, but a lot about how hungry I am.

You do realise different people enjoy things differently, right? If you want to take until Christmas to finish HoT in its current state, fine, do your thing. Just don’t assume yours is the only “right” way to do it, because it’s really, really not.

Amd cpu and hot

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Red Queen.7915

It should run okay, though you might need to turn the graphics settings down, a little or a lot, depending on the rest of your hardware.

But I have to say, with GW2, an Intel CPU does make a difference. I switched from an AMD to an Intel with fairly similar specs, and up the FPS went. And that’s with a graphics card that was even worse than the one I used with the AMD (sadly, the new mainboard and the old graphics card weren’t playing nice with each other…). Point being, you can run GW2 just fine on an AMD, but it will probably run better on an Intel.

Can be just difference due to PCI Express v2 versus v3 on your new intel MB.

I fussed with that thing for hours, and I still have no idea. Funny thing was, another series of the same model works just fine, according to the internet. Either way, I have a new one now anyway, and the old one got a new home in my brother’s computer, so everyone won :>

The best way I’ve found to reduce the CPU strain is to use these settings…

Character quality and model limit set to medium.
Shadows set to low.
Reflections set to off.

Not much else seems to matter too much as far as CPU goes. I use these settings and I’m on an Intel 3770k at 4.5GHz.

Those settings are awfully low for your CPU (and I’m assuming your graphics card isn’t too shabby, either). I run most stuff at high, except for reflections, with a Xeon @3.4GHz. Of course, if you run a million programs in the background, low settings do seem sensible…

New Player

in Players Helping Players

Okay, beginners advice: Try out everything. Classes, races, go to the different starter areas to see what the game offers, zone-wise. If you have any questions, ask in map chat. With HoT, there is also the “Pact Commander”, which is a red icon with a little cross (?) in it on the minimap, or an apple with an exclamation mark inside over a player’s head. This means they are mentors and happy to help new players. The mentor rank is also visible in chat windows.

The New Player Experience is basically an extended tutorial in the open world and there to guide you through your first steps in the game, telling you where events are, where you can do heart quests for XP, where to find vistas and waypoints… it’s fairly easy to understand (though if you do it for the 18th time, it can get annoying… shut up, game, I know what I’m doing^^).

To find a guild, you can either post in map chat what kind of guild you are looking for (language, continent/country, PvE- or PvP/WvW oriented…), preferably in Lion’s Arch (the main hub), or answer players who advertise their own guilds. There is also a subforum “Looking for…” where you can make a post detailing what you are looking for in a guild, or browse the posts made by guilds for one that fits you. You can also just look for buddies in your time zone to play with occasionally, if you want to see what the game has to offer before joining a guild.

Just create a character and go exploring for a bit, a lot of things are self-explanatory or easy to work out.

Welcome to Tyria
