Imo its feels kinda sad that they seem to use druid as a way to fix Ranger instead of fixing the class and THEN giving them an elite spec

So I have been wondering about the Storm Spirit and the igest question is does anyone even use it?
I really like how it punishes enemies for getting to close but that about it I dont really se the point of a swiftness when I could run earth spirit and get Protection instead

I wouldn’t like to see any buff on Ranger. Being farmed from extreme range while being harassed by attack drones isn’t fun. Rangers also have pretty rapid stealth, a speed signet and strong CC.

Well do I remember the rangers laughing in map chat as they insta killed my Mesmer with point blank shot > pet cc > machine gun bow and shouted “l2p.”

No, I’d oppose buffs of any kind to Ranger unless it came with a healthy nerf to the longbow and a reduction in range.

What we are asking for isnt dmg but team support that makes us more viable in pve and pvp not just 1v1 fights but 5v5 and so on

Nerfing icebow would have been a mistake. When you see an icebow you pick it up. That’s how conjure weapons should be. That’s how environmental weapons in general should be.

If anything they should be an option lets say for instance a war runs sword/sheild GS then he should want to pick up the Ice Bow in a fight where range is required or when range makes it easier
they are supose to be that kind of option not a pure upgrade for EVERYONE that simple make the ability either overpowered or broken

Yes, traps are pure aids and are skill -less. There are so many things to buff about ranger. That is not one of them.

Question have you tried them?? the issue isnt really the condi dmg but the LACK of direct oo yes frost trap does direct dmg and so do all but the ammount is close to hilarious if I remember correctly my frost trap does about 700*3 with full Zojjas and that one of the HARD HITTING ones
spike trap that should be mainly physical (imo atleast) does even LESS and btw you do know that when a trap is sprung you can DODGE out of it since dodge isnt affected by cripple that way you can avoid most of the dmg unless its a spike trap
so yes they need some kinda of change since they only work for condi and now you have to choose to bleed on crit OR TRAPS
you cant have both anymore and they arent throw able either and that ONE more reason they should do more dmg

I run Cele Ranger so yes I have a LOT less condi dmg then the rest but I think I should atleast be able to take 1/4 of a guys hp with a full hit of all 3 all I end up useing them as is a way to keep distance between me and my target (I run traper runes in WvW which I am talking about btw)

They wanted to nerf icebow 4 dmg by 25% and the kittenstorm on Ele forum was so huge that they didnt change it they didnt care about balance or anything enough ppl rageing about it usually makes is happen

This is sadly how the developers seems to work and I have seen comments on it on more then one ocation if you want your change you basicly have to use brute force and make the developers make it

remember the golden Pvp rule: If you lose to a ranger , you sk.
but if you rly like to play ranger you should also like to play other classes and learn weakness, the results are incredible and end into ranger hate

except for how hilariously stupid the AI is I cant even count how mant times bird has used swiftness instead of killing my target and so on Id rather have f1-6 or even 7
so I can have more control over pet rather then bear useing Defy Pain when being touched by the wind

You guys are probably the only group of people in the game that want Ranger buffs. Position yourselves right (L2P) and you will continue to dominate with the least amount of effort (minus Mes and Ele of course, but they will be nerfed soon enough.)

I would like to add give all traps the same duration (time until they disapear) since I often use them to give me a warning and when they all have different duration )not sure if all but spike traps has longest by far) that would make them a lot easier to use

and my personal dream make us able to place 2 of each acually promoting useing traps as traps and not a bonfire like anet said they wanted WHEN THEY REMOVED THROWABLE TRAPS
while I find this very unlikely to be implemented ALL of those abilities you listed really need to be fixed

Guys this issue has been spoken before, but the bearbow is horrifying OP, i mean i cannot kill the bear! wth is it with that, the bear keeps on living slapping me in the face and saying drop down and dont get up!
Plz nerf this insane being, i cannot BEAR with it anymore.
The unBearing moments i keep on getting agains that class and its not if i can dodge the bear it pulls me to him and then he just slaps me.

ok now Im gonna give you a hint that will allow you (if used properly) avoid EVER taking dmg from a rangers pet EVER again are you ready?

use swiftness and run thanks to no cleave (except drake) and the horrible cone combined with the slow as attackspeed and the rooting while attacking that the pet has all you need to do is run in ANY DIRECTION and the pet will be unable to hit you try it youself and you will find it hilarius

and btw why the heck did you even attack that thing bear pet for ranger is like a guardian or warrior with Soldier does low dmg but can take a HUGE amount of dmg

hint when fighting a player with a pet just ignore it if you use my previus tip it wont even be able to dmg you

I dont know how you use your Barrage but I use it to apply cripple from range and do some dmg to easier pick ppl of since I run pos and while its true that it doesnt do so much dmg U have to take into account that like so mant other Ranger weapons it only has one other attack other then aa that is meant to deal dmg while the rest is for utility

It’s because Rangers have to transfer between different environments and areas of combat a lot. They have an advantage, but the truth is that sadly most people haven’t tried Rangers so they believe that they are op.

It’s completely unreasonable the amount of hate that we get. When I join groups half of the time I get removed because I’m a ranger. Instead of joining groups now I make the. Evolve or die, it’s the ranger way

its the same with RF on a target that stealths its the same with ALL the other channel skills that tracks a target its just that RF is more widely used causing ppl to hate on ranger for it

Zenith did u test DH at max range in pvp/wvw I did and they had the same issue that Ranger had before +100% velocity
sure U have the range but you cant hit anything that moved sideways or runs from you at it forcing you to go even closer if your fireing at a moving target
the only time I could consistlently hit tagets on my max ranger with DH was when the were standing still

The adaptation is nessicary for us Rangers. We have to change our builds and swap out our skills when we are in peril. If we are not in peril we stand strong!

thats a part of many ppls frustration with Rangers adaptation is nessicary for us not so much for them and we are ofter picked just to fill slots and I for one have been kicked because they found an ele or war to take my slot causeing even more frustration of being seen and a benchwarmer and not a player

when is Arenanet fixing some behaviour of long bow for rangers?

at start 1500 range – simply not correct ON A SINGLE TARGET!

most of all the skill named “rapid shot”, you go in stealth, and whatever kind of enemy has you in target THEY LOOSE TARGET, but not that SKILL!

hello m8 I can understand some of you frustration with RF keeping hitting you while you stealth but the thing is its a channel skill and its the same with all channel skills if your target were to stealth and have it interupted would pretty much make it useless against Theifs and mesmers Im guessing you are one of these two
and the thing is with the 1500 range on LB is that after 1500 the arrow will start droping makeing it reach further when faceing downslope and shorter when up

and lastly none of these are bugs but intended

I acually run cele in wvw and it works great I wont claim to be the best player ever but that along with my beloved trapper runes and LB/S/D makes it a lot of fun

maybe not the best setup ever but it work great for roaming

Why is there so much of it?

I just recently returned to GW2 after a long breakittenep hearing things like Rangers aren’t good for any game play.

I primarily pvp and WvW and keep hearing Rangers are pretty terrible. And I do see that they are under represented. In WvW I think I have really only seen maybe 10 other Rangers in the last 2 weeks.

I was told yesterday that most Ranger players are kittene but they still mostly win with LB and that is why people hate them.

I don’t really buy into the whole underpowered mind set but just curious where all this came from?

Imo its not that the class is bad or anything its that they lost dmg with last update and dmg is what most ppl care about and Ranger dmg was even before patch lower that combined with the whole noob stamp on the class overall and most ppl spaming “Point Blank Shot” for no reason

I like to say ranger is a easy class to learn but hard to play effective since while other clases has block we have dodge and parries that recuire timing and not just a button press causing many ppl to screw up

Guys before HoT is released there can still be changes and even after that and like one person here has already said the whole idea with the elite specializations is to sacrifice some of what the class is currently GOOD at and improve in something that the class curently is very BAD at I for one dont think they will out do LB ranger but I can be wrong

lets not jump to any conclutions until we know everything since everyone said Revenant was going to be OP and then there was a beta test and everyone said they were the new worst class in game

I would like to add the ability to stow pet while in combat for those cases where you stand in a safe spot but your pet just keeps standing in the aoe (im thinking about bosses like Mai Trin)
And I realla want a f for pet stow along with pet stow until I wanna drag it back out so I dont have to keep it on passiv all the time

And for the whole bark sking remake I have said this before it should affect your pet while you are above 90% and you while you are bellow 25% make it useful for everyone since its basicly a must in pve so your pet wont die during world bosses and it would synergise with the bellow 50% traits like “most dangerous game”

I don’t get why they had to remove the Ranger portion of the heal, they could have left that for sure and it would not be OP in the slightest.

If it were me, I would have made it like Companionship from GW1.

Natural Healing; “If you have less Health than your pet, you gain 125 Health per second. If your pet has less Health than you, it gains 1% total health per second.”

I really like that idea just not the % idea it might get a little op

Every skill that “rules” over your mobility has been nerfed as well as buffed.
All these skills have a base travel value that cannot be modified by Swiftness or traits, but can’t be hindered by cripple and chill, either.

It’s a tweak they made for all the classes. Not just Ranger.

He’s talking about the fact that the range of all our offhand skills got increased, except for stalker’s strike.

They also screwed up the cooldown on throw torch, it’s not being affected by the trait. Hopefully they will fix both of these problems.

Well, if they don’t want it to end up like the Shortbow “fix” they’d rather address this. It was intended before, and if it wasn’t it should have been mentioned.

The changes make sense, but still feel like “well, we don’t feel like fixing the problems, so let’s just pretend that it wasn’t intended for the past 2 years – fixt”

sadly that seems to be the story of a Rangers life in gw2 lets just pretend it was meant to be like and let it be fixed and I for one am sick of it

I only had the pet spawn dead happen to me once and that was in WvW when I was mashing my pet swap with my first pet dead not sure if that help since Im not sure exactly what happened was and I havent been able to replicate it so far might have been some server lag since it was in a big fight

Exactly, this trait was never designed to heal the Ranger.
If it is not healing the Ranger, it’s working as intended.

Did they ever actually say that? I know the tool tip never said anything about healing the ranger but the tool tips in this game are pretty unreliable.

It’s a trait that never did it in the 1st place. Never said it should and only got merged with pet getting more Healing Power.

That’s it. A trait that never did this has no reason to start doing it without even saying so.

Except it did also heal the ranger… It worked that way for years. The pet would get regen every second and the ranger would get it every 3 seconds.

the old version healed the ranger but this new and appearantly IMRPOVED version doesnt it ONLY heals the pet and isnt meant to heal the Ranger anymore that part was removed

Killing a pet is supposed to be an important strategy for fighting a ranger in PvP or WvW. Particularly useful if the pet provides a really important benifiet to the ranger, like being used for a Protect Me cooldown, of if you are a condition user and want to deny a Signet of Renewal or Empathic Bond.

Pet HP was increased in PvE to help keep them alive in that game mode, but not increased in other game modes to prevent that method of hurting the ranger. What pets really need is aoe damage reduction so that they aren’t effected by cleave and red circles as much, but can still be directly targeted if a player wants to take them out. Sadly, this feature which is very common in nearly every other major MMO isn’t used in GW2 because they just don’t consider it important enough of a problem to address, even if it means pets are insta-killed frequently in dungeons and WvW.

I like your logic regarding killing the pet as a strategy . Only problem is that while the health on pets have been designed, burning stacking wasn’t a thing. Pets have no defense mechanism vs condis. That used to be OK before the burning stacking age but now, little ring of fire by ele just destroy your pet(even spiders) they don’t even need to aim pet, lots of burning applications are aoe. How much time can you survive burning burst without cleanse? 5 -10 sec? pets got lots of new toys to mitigate physical damage but they’r are more vulnerable than ever to condis.

not to mention the issues they have with landing hits on ppl overall especially ppl with swiftness or any other movespeed boost unless U run BM

Ranger means ranger, aka wanderer or rover. The whole misconception that it derives from ranged combat is just that.. a misconception.

Not a misconception. I think Anet defines what the class entails:

“Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.”

God… who cares? Why the hell does this come up in 90% of the discussions. The class should be balanced around the other classes and the game, not around whether Ranger means ranged combat or not.

We just received a crap load of nerfs because anet wanted to focus on what thematically fits the ranger in their minds instead of actually trying to balance the class. All this stupid RANGEr discussion does is encourage that kind of behavior.

I would agree with the rather lackluster effort from anet to balance different classes. But the title of thread did suggest the nature of the combat, which is range combat.

If you insist to use merriam webster to define a ranger’s role in gw2, then I genuinely don’t know what to say to you.

Make spirits into Auras.

The buff radiates from the ranger. The active effect is centered on the ranger. There is nothing to pick up and move, because it radiates from the ranger.

If they are so in love with the idea of “spirits”, the spirit can be visualized by a single non-combat spirit NPC that follows the ranger, glowing whatever color aura’s the ranger is running.

Thats not OP, its a needed QoL improvement. The only arguement I can imagine against not giving us that kind of QoL improvement is “Counter Play”. But do banners have counter play, other than leave the area and hope someone doesn’t chase you with it? Just cast time interrupts, but spirits as auras could easily have cast times for summoning or activation too. does vampric aura have counter play? does Soothing Mist (which when traited, is over 200hp/sec for the party)?

It would be a huge boon to everyone (pun intended), and important enough to want to include rangers in every single existing meta.

like the idea but imo it should radiate from the pet instead because that way you can still use stone spirit for instance even with LB and support you melees

FYI I have NEVER been a fan of the entire swap pet as often as possible game play that ranger has

idea for trap change make them charge up dmg the longer they are out before activated that way you might not only wanna use them as a aoe where you are standing and instead place them in antisipation of an attack and or even save them for later use

spirits needs a remake imo even before the update they had issues which since the updat has only become bigger for instance they have HP!!!!! no other area buff in the game as far as i know have HP
and now that they cant move at all just makes it more silly since U have 2 place them so far from your teamates as possible for it not to be hit by the aoes that get cast around making them close to useless
and ofc the extra hp the get from Nature’s Vengeance doesnt really do much they still die in 2 sec

make them inv or make them able 2 move when traited plz for the love of frost spirit

Why is there this “come at me bro” 1v1 challenge going on? That has no ability to highlight what the ranger is weak at (team utility) at all.

We lack (or have weaker than a different classes):

  • instant lockdown
  • AoE damage
  • enemy boon ripping/manipulation
  • ally boon sharing
  • out of combat mobility
  • team healing/cleansing

So what if ranger builds can 1v1 and deal damage, nobody that I’ve seen worth listening to is disputing that. But that doesn’t matter when you are looking to optimize a team comp and ranger can’t compete as well as other classes in any of those categories and doesn’t significantly deal more damage than those other classes either.

Dueling and the ability to duel doesn’t do ANYTHING to fix that. Congratulations, you can duel well on a ranger. Your team just died in a teamfight though because you couldn’t rotate there quick enough, rip boons off of bunker targets, lockdown high priority targets for kills, or improve your teams output in any meaningful way other than just doing damage, which is something that every class can do anyhow.

A good player is a good player, and on any class, a good player can push wins in solo queued unranked matches regardless of what they play. But premade vs premade? Rangers are not optimal class choices, and against any team worth their salt, a ranger is currently handicapping their team compared to what can be picked in its place.

Duels have no weight against that fact.

I just wanna add viable combo feilds to that list

ppl complain that LB is dead because it lost a lot of dmg
I for one think it still works but the thing is that in “meta” pretty much all ppl care about is dmg so when you nerf a weapons dmg output you see where this is going

they have a point since from what I have noticed (keep in mind I pretty much only play Ranger so Im not a 100% sure of dmg changes on the otherclasses) only Ranger LB had a significant drop in dmg while most other classes and weapons had theyre dmg increased but a fair margin

I really wish they could make traps feel like real traps
you know like you dont wanna stand in them because they hurt not because there are 3 of them but because there is a freaking trap
they said they were gonna buff traps dmg and I for one have barely notíced if all since I usually never use traps because I run LB/GS and they pretty much ONLY do condi dmg

on a side note it would be nice if bark skin afected you pet while YOUR above 90% and you while your below 25% like it used to

poison trap and we heal as one still have their tool tip wron We heal as one if your runing resounding timbre doesnt show the swiftness and regenaration
and poison trap desplays 1 poison stack when it applies 3 per pulse
and the natural healing trait doesnt seem to work
