Warrior is also the ultimate learning class. If you don’t know what to dodge, how to deal with blind, how to position, you’ll get stomped into the ground. Being melee you gotta learn to play on a much granular level then any other class out there.
He’s not just mostly melee. He’s also the class that has the lowest amount of access to endurance outside of the base 2 dodges. You have only limited weapon skills to avoid damage (ex: 1 block on a longer cooldown than your dodge from 0 endurance). No stealth, no teleport, no body-blocking illusions, extremely limited access (down the precision line) to vigor, and now, no more access to cripple while retreating.
You’ve got to know your fight on a warrior more than any other class if you expect to play more often than run back from spawn.
(edited by Redscope.6215)
The warrior epitomizes L2P by example in this game. If everyone sucked terribly, as was the case for almost everyone during BWEs, the warrior would dominate (and he did….and people cried). Once people gain knowledge of the game (learn how to play), he’s easily beat.
If you’re crying about the warrior, and you’re not playing a warrior, you should try building your character with abilities that work together. Chances are, you’ve picked things because they sound or look ‘cool’ or you’ve spent an amount of trait points down a line that isn’t divisible by 5.

Tell me I’m a glass cannon, because I didn’t consider myself one with a toughness of 1132, but all I know is that warrior was alone and couldn’t have had many stacks of might, and what magical stacks of vulnerability could I have had accumulated from a whopping 15 second encounter against two foes (one of which didn’t live long)? What will come next, 1-hit kill headshots? The only possible way you can mitigate the Killshot damage is to have to Warrior in focus and time your dodge, which is nicely possible but still doesn’t excuse the out-of-whack numbers. Have I mentioned yet that I’m not a glass cannon and run with a balanced build?
It seems like an I-WIN button brought to you by the “balance mastermind” behind latter GW1.
Wow. Possibly the easiest, most telegraphed skill to dodge in the game being complained about by a player using the class with the most evasions in the game.
How about I just quote you from the past, hmm?
OP did the thought occur to you
ever
that you should get better at the game mayhaps?
[snip]I think your main problem is you have no idea how thief works, and you need to learn how it works[snip]
This.
Indeed. All of this, plus:
- 216 extra Toughness doesn’t make you a balanced build
- 15 seconds is longer than most thieves need to kill or realize they’re going to lose and mulligan
- Backstab does way more damage when traited and executed properly
- Instagib from stealth is worse than burst with a 2 second highly interruptable cast time, a root, and a massive tell
I’ll let you writhe over a warrior beating you. Someone who takes personally the fact that he plays a thief and wrongfully assumes they’re meant to be top dog in 1v1s. You’re pretty much the reason why I love to smack-up thieves and corpse jump them until they respawn. On every class I play.
Too many people like you flock to the thief archtype in games, and then cry when you lose.
In short, L2P.
(edited by Redscope.6215)
I honestly don’t think JSharp was referring to ‘tools’ and ‘situations’ meaning the difference between PvP, PvE, and WvW (and if he was, and I’m mistaken, I think its particularly near-sighted of him). There are times when you’re fighting a particular monster, build, group, etc where certain skills can turn things in your favor more than any other. Those situations transcend the various gameplay modes. Certainly there are scenarios that will happen more often than not in particular modes, but aside from the WvW game-breakingly large zergs, there are no scenarios you can only find in one mode of play.
That being said, the Warrior could have probably shown his true colors in being given multiple skill sets for the same weapon. In short, being the true master of weapons and using them just as effectively in multiple scenarios as any other class would in just one.
Coulda’ woulda’ shoulda’ I guess.
How about the viability of sword as a off hand using other main hand weapons besides sword. Why would they take the offhand sword when other offhands have better utilities (even axe is a more famous offhand). I’ve yet to see others use it in conjunction with say, mh mace or axe.
I just had to jump in and comment on this. Axe has been popular for two reasons, its flashy, spinny, slashy, winny skill and combining that with omnomberry pies. Now the omnomberry pies have been nerfed since, but people always want their spins. Don’t ask, I’ve learned not to over the years. There’s no rhyme or reason, its just human nature I guess.
C’mon now wish, you’re making all the thief baddies have to think instead of pressing ‘2’ to win. That’s not nice! :p
Another thief nerf thread that will be met with strong opposition from the block-headed, thief-only, terribad players that troll these forums complaining about [insert latest thief patch notes here]. Thieves will continue to get nerfed, but more than likely this is not the way it will happen.
As I’ve said before, numerous times, thieves still have way too much access to ‘mulligan’ for the amount of forgiveness the rest of their skills offer them. Many things have been brought into line, but it’s not over.
Anyone who thinks the thief is balanced is delusional; I’ve said that one before too. The “L2P” acronym has been tossed about on this forum more than any other, and guess which class got the most nerfs since release…
The truth is that Anet devs are learning their game’s strengths and weaknesses. They’ve finally submitted that mobility is the highest power available to any one class and they are now balancing around it. The ele nerfs proved it a while back and the re-upping of guard symbol size confirms it. In an effort to stay on topic, this is what I believe will end up happening to Heartseeker. It’s not too high damage, it’s not too little resource drain, it’s too forgiving to the unskilled player. It’s lock-on nature is what has to change about it; more than likely, that’s what will.
This thread is neither the beginning nor the end of a massive forum trollfest sparked and fueled by the simple fact that this is the troll class and trolls will always flock to it. It’s not specific to GW2 either. It’s like this with every thief, rogue, assassin, burglar, etc class in every game. In the end, people never seem to stop and I continue to read the wrong-headed feedback about how balance changes killed the game for thieves. So far, Pistol Whip has been the most fun to read about…oh, the world that some people live in.

Can we please stop.
This thread is only here because a Dev made a kittening typo.
Greatsword is FINE the way it is.
Stop trying to fix what ain’t broke.
New here Raven? These “Change Arcing Slice” threads are not. They’ve been around since…well…since Arcing Slice ever sucked. Which is forever. So, yeah.
Greatsword isn’t “fine”, but it is very powerful. Don’t mistake powerful skills for things that aren’t broken.
Arcing Slice is in need of a facelift however you look at it. Anet has already stated that they are looking at ways to change it, but that’s been going on for a while. Who knows how long its going to take….
Not that it’s all that big of a deal…but is it supposed to be satirical that “Aimed Shot” is the only shot the Warrior does from the hip?
Shouldn’t it be “Volley” where he’s doing that animation?
On a more hilarious side-note, necros that are killed in one-shot with DS up should explode in a cloud of black fog.
I don’t understand why you guys hate Anet for making you play the game by the rules. Yes, falling damage will kill you now.
Its not for the falling damage, the problem is that DS is out only survivor mechanic, read the thread.
DS was being exploited to block more damage than it should.
Its called balance. Balance happens. It should be a bumper sticker by now.
Hahaha exploited. Well exploits are against the terms of service and I did not want to get banned so every time my ds was about to go empty, I popped out. Just to make sure I wasnt exploiting.
“An Exploit” as defined by the ToS and the literal meaning of the word “exploit” are two different things. Go ahead and google the definition of exploit. I promise you it’s not a gaming term, it’s a real word.
Also, you do realize that using all of your life force in DS keeps the cooldown from popping right? That’s another big part of the balance….that happens…which is still not a freaking sticky on the class forums yet….
Torment?
Rework of Jug?!
Rush/Bull?!?
Healing Buffs?!?!?!
Apparently I’ve been sucked into parallel dimension where ANet actually <3’s warriors!
We care about all professions. =)
If you cared about necromancer, then this patch would not have been there. Believe what you want, perceive class balance as you want, but necromancer are almost useless now, and the worst 1 vs 1 class in the game. All my investments Annihilated. Now i must reroll.
Translation:
I JUST got my necro maxed for the OP-ness and you did a balance patch! QQ!
Must be a bad necromancer if he thinks their useless.
I don’t know if that’s what he’s upset about. It sounds more like he wanted some OP FotM sPvP action but failed to beef up his necro in time.

This sword-envy is getting obnoxious.
(Edit: Holy crap wish, that picture makes this comment all the more appropriate)
Anet, before you give classes weapons they don’t have access to, make some new weapons.
I almost responded to the Necro poster as well, but he isn’t worth our time. Let’s try to keep the focus on the Warrior changes. Necros have their own Rains of Castamere thread on their forums where they can pour their negativity.
Not sure exactly what that is but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess it’s some sort of WoW forums reference.

At least with Mending it’ll cure Poison before the heal goes off (if memory serves, and if you aren’t caked with condis)
And if you take Restorative Strength with Mending, you’ve got a pretty good chance of removing anything on you every 20 seconds.
Can we please get the longbow autoattack fixed now? Remove the lower tier value, move the medium value to 0-600, and the high value to 600+ please.
The greatsword autoattack also needs buffing, please. It is quite behind the mainhand sword’s autoattack by quite a bit and it’s part of the reason why it’s not being used in PvE as it’s quite a substantial damage decrease.
Read the 3rd attack on Greatsword and you’ll realize why its damage doesn’t need an increase. You’re evading 1/2 the time you’re auto-attacking.
This doesn’t matter on PvE. You don’t need it.
So remove the evade in PvE, then increase the damage.
Otherwise, don’t OP stuff just because it doesn’t deliver big numbers.

Among other benefits the stealth on hunters also let’s you cast the beginning of barrage without detection.
The bigger question is whether or not they will have to land an attack with Hunter’s Shot to go stealth.
Did you make it an in-combat skill-based stealth or a spammy-spammy 3 second stealth every 12 seconds regardless of the situation?
It’s no question, just read the notes : “This skill no longer applies vulnerability ON EACH HIT, but now grants the ranger stealth for 3 seconds.”
That means it’s vulnerability per-hit is removed. It doesn’t mean it requires a hit for stealth to activate, or hits 3s of stealth per tick, or requires no hit for just 3s of stealth.
It’s very vague.

More like:
•Damage taken while in death shroud will now overflow to the necromancer’s health pool if the damage taken is greater than the remaining life force.
I KNEW IT!!
Visual effects are for balance purposes too.
I’m not sure Aegis would be something that’s OP without a visual, but I’m kinda for the idea that either everything has a ‘tell’ or none of it does. This is the current issue with classes like the Warrior where nearly everything he does has a “please dodge or interrupt me now” pause before he does it.
I’ve had enough "yolo"s to last me a lifetime in chat. Lets not make this internet nerd acronym fad a permanent fixture of the game please.
We are almost 1 year from the game’s launch and you people are STILL complaining about thieves? For real?
This is more a mechanic complaint.
I just as much feel Warriors should lose their adrenaline when they attempt a burst skill. Land or not.
Both mechanics are handicaps that save the Warrior/Thief from their mistake, while effectively making the intelligent play of the opponent worth nothing.
The difference is warriors have to build to their adrenaline skills. Thieves just ‘press x’ and enter stealth. Way more noob-friendly on the thief’s end.
You guys are all missing one key element. Aegis is a buff you can always see. See Aegis? Throw out an attack BEFORE entering stealth. Done.
If you backstab a Guard with Aegis up, you’re just a noob…plain and simple…
Fun, I agree, but I have to say, I don’t think the game needs more Conditions before a new boon (if anything at all) plus it’d cover another slot protecting conditions. Have to be cautious of that. That said, Blood Line Champions had this type of taunt, and it was fun in that type of game.
I don’t think it needs new boons either.
I think it needs a re-evaluation of the balance between damage conditions and control conditions.
That’s why you shouldn’t take WvW balance seriously.
Yeah, that argument worked a few months ago before they started obviously balancing WvW individually. Gotta come up with some new material.
How do you know it isn’t someone foolishly trying to do Ultimate Fabricator and Ultimate Besieger?
Especially now with the achievement rewards …
You’re playing the devil’s advocate here – you know it’s not the case.
How do you KNOW that? You’re assumptions are just as good as the next guy’s.
If the siege displayed the name of the player, we could PM him and ask him why he’s doing it, before reporting this behavior. If he were indeed trying to work on that achievement, we would explain him to rather build arrow carts in keeps than trebs inside a shed for the same effect, but helping the server. That’s the problem, anonymous siege.
I’m sure you would be nice and polite to the player. What about others? What about every single player that can see that name? Do we want to bring massive whisper-griefing to players who are just ignorant of the impact of their gameplay? I know quite a few people who would whisper whoever they wanted about whatever siege they saw if they didn’t like it’s placement.
Sure harassment is a ban-able offense, but do we want to give it more of an opportunity to exist, create tickets, and take precious customer service hours away from others?
The easiest and simplest way to fix it is to add player names to the siege. It is not unprecedented in MMO’s, LOTRO’s crafting had the crafters name attached to the items he crafted. If a 7yo game can do it, so can GW2.
The question is not whether or not it CAN be done, but whether or not it SHOULD be done. Putting your name on a crafted item is an innocent gesture to allow the player a false sense of ownership; putting a name on an object like siege, which can greatly effect the gameplay of others, is quite a different story.
Adding names to siege is also serving another purpose. Rewarding the people who place it by making their name ‘known’. Any new player may look at the siege and see some names popping up more often, these ‘siege masters’ will hence be known to many, and even though their work won’t give them more points than a zergling gets, it would still be a sort of reward. At the moment we recognize many of the commanders, but the siege masters are anonymous, because no badge is shown for their work.
Two birds with one stone.
The risk of what I have stated above far outweighs the benefit of someone being able to “claim” their siege. The closest thing you can get is a guild emblem, and you can’t whisper bomb or mail bomb a guild.
This is all bullkitten. You are the reason PVE’ers are turned away from wvw. rather than explain strategy and organize, you would rather tie off their arms and make them slaves to your own blob pressing the 1 key repeatedly. I cannot stand that the devs will acknowledge that the rule regarding “match fixing” is being thrown around to describe anyone who refuses or is ignorant of the meta of seige, supply, and zergs.
TL;DR:
Edit(to be less offensive)You really need to get off your elitist horse and meet people halfway
The problem with what’s currently happening is self-serving players are able to wreck an entire server’s position, and ruin the cooperation of others mind you, by simply walking around building siege and eating supply. Not knowing how supply works is not an excuse for planting siege next to a ‘pick-up’ zone and draining supply because you either wanted to sabotage the server or selfishly level up without participating.
You can’t prove or disprove deliberate intent on sabotage when this kind of gameplay happens. However, you CAN keep it from happening a number of ways. For instance, you could limit the number of times or frequency that a player may take supply from the same source.
It’s not about keeping players from playing how they want, its about keeping their “playing how they want” from destroying how others play.
They just fixed ele mobility OPness…lets hope they don’t add GS as a weapon and re-break it.
Sorry for my ignorance on the matter if something was not right, but having a nerf on Pve because people complains in Pvp does not really seem fair to me, WvW should be considered pvp in my opinion, I’d just like to be the mobile class Arenanet told us it should’ve been at launch.
Anet said that? When?
Also, mobility doesn’t help much in PvE. If you need RtL to leave PvE every 15 seconds you’re doing it wrong.
The problem is the “stabby stabby” people move from game to game and expect the same thing over and over again: Backstab+Stealth
If those two things don’t wtfinstagibpwnall then they start threads like this.
This is Guild Wars 2, go away.
When previewing a post, and clicking on the “Forums” link in the YAH (you are here)bar, you receive a message at the top of the screen which states “You must be a moderator or administrator to access this page!”
Steps to Recreate:

7. Scroll back to the top of the page and click “Forums” in the YAH bar
Expected Result:
User is returned to the main “Welcome” page of the forums
Actual Result:
User is returned to the main “Welcome” page with a message stating: “You must be a moderator or administrator to access this page!”
Comments:
This is kind of a contrived bug that doesn’t ruin user experience or hinder performance in any way. I just felt that it should be brought to attention. If it is indeed attempting administrative access and failing, it may be flagging accounts for improperly attempting restricted access. I’m not exactly sure how your systems work here.
What’s the R for?
The problem with the thief is, has been, and probably always will be his ability to mulligan at any point during the fight and start again at his choosing. Because of this, thieves should be REQUIRED to get the perfect situation in order to win.
The only thief that ever loses a fight is the angry noob that doesn’t want to leave, reset, and try again until he wins. They get target fixation, forget to flee, and die.
You know, it would have just been easier to say, “Guys, we’re adding Mario Kart Guild Wars 2” :p
Funny, but from rangers perspective on Thief i have exact opposite impressions.
I ran a thief just to learn how to counter them on ranger. Playing a thief only confirmed how op they are in ANY 1vs1.
(i play p/p //shortbow so hitting the air doesn’t help much. Stealthed or not, i always try to keep the 800-900 distance). Also i don’t even try to come closer, cause i simply don’t use any backstabs or other melee tricks, just pure range.
See the difference between you and the OP is that you know how to play a thief. The OP doesn’t. If you’re going up against a Steal+CnD+BS thief and he loses, bravo, you’ve found a noob.
Thieves have an unrivaled ability to mulligan the fight and start from scratch. If they miss you on the first go-round, and they’re not a noob, they’ll leave and try again later (in a few seconds).
Sorry OP, but your “objective” view on thieves is overshadowed by your subjective skill ceiling.
My main is a warrior, but i had to say this. Its quite rare to encounter a good thief, but when i do encounter them, i love them hehe. Seriously out of all mmo’s ive played, Thiefes must be the hardest to play in a game like this.
i agree. I have so many problem testing my warrior build because I keep meeting bad thieves. The one that run up to ME are always the easiest kill.
I learn that good thieves use blind, bad thieves spam heartseeker, backstab or other skills
Gotta love those. I can’t tell you how much fun it is to let thieves give chase like I’m running away and then just turn around and melt their face off.
Oh, the best is when they’re out of initiative because they SB IA’d their way to me. The definition of “L2P”.
(edited by Redscope.6215)
Revert mist form nerf, add an additional -30% (-50% total for air skills) cooldown for movement skills (rtl, burning speed, etc.) to Aeromancer’s Alacrity, and put a stun breaker back on lightning flash. That would be enough to make me happy.
It would also be enough to re-OP the ele.
Ah the tears of the fallen…so tasty.
I’m waiting for all the bunker ele, OP class only players to switch to troll thieves and get those nerfed. That’ll be at least a couple months yet, but man will it be sweet.
I agree with you completely for us who live far away. I would also second it due to the fact that it only really fits for sPvP and not for WvW or PvE where it just makes life unnecessarily harder.
Oh it fits for WvW too, people just don’t want to admit that WvW has its own PvP balance.
Remember all those posts like: “This isn’t sPvP, Anet doesn’t balance for WvW.”
Well, they do. Sorry guys, its a strong aspect of their game which also requires balance to be fun.
However for sPvP I do agree with it to an extent. I would lower it to 15/30 maybe, but the maps are so small there that a highly mobile tank breaks the game.
A highly mobile bunker breaks the game period. You’ve missed the point of the nerf entirely. Bunkers should not be able to give chase, its part of their balance. They win, they don’t chase.
As far as the OP is concerned, I can empathize. I used to play games with a 300+ ping all the time because that’s all that was available to me. However, I don’t think breaking game balance for high-pingers is the answer. You’re at a disadvantage because of your latency, not because of a specific class balance issue.
My opinion is all of the professions should have f1-f4 abilities , lets raise that skill ceiling beyond belief.
Would be nice but we can’t be sure people won’t just macro a programmable keyboard instead of actually using keys one-by-one.
Its technically not allowed by Anet but there’s nothing they can really do about it.
So I was just browsing the forums, and here is what I discovered.
Guards are OP
Necros are OP
Thieves are OP
Mesmers are OP
Rangers are OP
Warriors are OP
Engis are OP
Eles are OP“Rangers are OP”???
Drugs are bad, m’kay….
But the rest is correct….
I’ve also discovered by browsing the forums that people tend to QQ about rangers in every class sub-forum in an off-topic fashion. I guess they don’t feel one sub-forum is enough.
Arms: Deep Strikes +40 Precision per signet
Sometimes it will properly provide the Precision, and other times it wont till you unequip/re-equip signets and/or the trait. Easily reproduced, equip 3+ signets, and zone.
Also, it gives the bonuses of the trait while unequipped if the signet remains unchanged.
Not sure if it has been mentioned but it’s a relatively new bug (since April I believe).
Spear – Mariner’s Frenzy:
The attack makes the proper sound but it recurs twice after it’s over, sounding as if you’ve used Mariner’s Frenzy 3 times in a row instead of just once.
What’s with everyone in this game? Not all skills from 2-5 are supposed to do more damage than the attack chain.
kitten people…
Warriors, rangers, mesmers, and thieves can still disengage at will. It’s mysteriously not OP for them, but was for ele.
I’ve been wondering about this for months, and I still can’t understand why they are crippling our class this much.
Eles are extremely powerful bunkers and healers. They either had to nerf the bunker or nerf the mobility side.
Would you rather have high mobility but be required to run from fights because you can’t bunker?
It’s one or the other. When eles had both, they were OP…and it showed because everyone and their mom had a d/d bunker ele for WvW.
Its like I said before the May patch, eles are gonna have to learn to play without OP. The tears are still flowing though. I’m kinda surprised at this point.
If you’re going at least 10 points down Strength, Restorative Strength and Mending is an awesome combo for condi clear. Probably the best PvP-related trait in the Adept tier of Strength.
It doesn’t always combo nicely, but it usually makes sure that Mending’s 2 condi cures are outside of Cripple, Chill, Immobilize, or Weakness.
